password protect folders without any software...

1.
if you have a log in password for your account, this can be used to protect
folders from other users. your hard drive must be f

ormatted using ntfs (which it probably is unless you're dual booting with another
operating system). here's what to do...

right-click the folder that you want to make private and choose "properties"

(or alt+double-click). go to the "sharing" tab and check the "make this folder
private" box.

click apply . if you do not have a password on your account, a box will pop up
asking if you want to assign a password. this must be done if you want to make the
folder private, so click yes . you will need to use your password to log on to
your computer from then on.
type in a password then confirm it. click the "create password" button then close
the password window.
click ok in the properties dialog box.
now anyone else logged on to your computer can't access that file without knowing
your password.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
2.
if ur folder is zipped then directly u can open the file in it and see .... add a
password

and confirm ur password and it ll b safe

now this is specially for the ones who are too lazy to get up even when the trust
cellphone dies screeching its lungs out. its pretty simple creating the playlist
create a playlist of your favourite songs in winamp, wmp or any other player.
export the playlist as a m3u playlist. m3u is generally accepted by almost every
player. triggering the alarm point to start> programs >accessories > system tools
>scheduled tasks create a new task and choose program as windows media player or
winamp (may work with others too but i haven't tried anything else) choose
"daily", enter the time and choose "every day" at next screen. it would now ask
for password (leave blank in case you don't have one) right click on the newly
created task and check the "run only if logged in" check box. in the properties.
append the path to the playlist you created in the "run" text box. it should now
look like code:
code:
"d:\windows mediaplayer\wmplayer.exe"k:\playlists\smoothies.m3uthe text inside
quotes is my wmp's path. it may vary for you. the text after wmp's path is the one
to the playlist. click ok and you're done.

for pc to boost faster than it is nowww.........

a great new feature in microsoft windows xp is the ability to do a boot

faster booting.
by default this option is enabled, but on some systems it is not, so below is the
information on how to turn it on:
go to start menu and click runtype in regedit then click okfind
"hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftdfrgbootopt imizefunction" select "enable"
from the list on the rightright on it and select "modify"change the value to y .
reboot your pc and see the change yourself.

disable cd autorun( winxp pro only)

1) click start, run and enter gpedit.msc

2) go to computer configuration, administrative templates, system.

3) locate the entry for turn autoplay off and modify it as you desire.

speed up browsing

when you connect to a web site your computer sends information back and forth.
some of this information deals with resolving the site name to an ip address, the
stuff that tcp/ip really deals with, not words. this is dns information and is
used so that you will not need to ask for the site location each and every time
you visit the site. although windows xp and windows xp have a pretty efficient dns
cache, you can increase its overall performance by increasing its size. you can do
this with the registry entries below:

windows registry editor version 5.00

[hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\dnscache\parameters]
"cachehashtablebucketsize"=dword:00000001
"cachehashtablesize"=dword:00000180
"maxcacheentryttllimit"=dword:0000fa00
"maxsoacacheentryttllimit"=dword:0000012d

make a new text file and rename it to dnscache.reg. then copy and paste the above
into it and save it. merge it into the registry.

disable indexing services

indexing services is a small little program that uses large amounts of ram and can
often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. this system process indexes and
updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. it does this so that
when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by
scanning the index lists. if you don't search your computer often, or even if you
do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. to disable do the
following:

1. go to start
2. click settings
3. click control panel
4. double-click add/remove programs
5. click the add/remove window components
6. uncheck the indexing services
7. click next

optimise display settings

windows xp can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system
resources. to optimize:

speedup folder browsing

you may have noticed that everytime you open my computer to browse folders that
there is a slight delay. this is because windows xp automatically searches for
network files and printers everytime you open windows explorer. to fix this and to
increase browsing significantly:

1. open my computer
2. click on tools menu
3. click on folder options
4. click on the view tab.
5. uncheck the automatically search for network folders and printers check box
6. click apply
7. click ok
8. reboot your computer

1.go to start
2. click settings
3. click control panel
4. click system
5. click advanced tab
6. in the performance tab click settings
7. leave only the following ticked:
- show shadows under menus
- show shadows under mouse pointer
- show translucent selection rectangle
- use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop
- use visual styles on windows and buttons

xphacking with windows xp

so you have the newest, glitziest, "fisher price" version of windows: xp. how
can you use xp in a way that sets you apart from the boring millions of ordinary
users?

the key to doing amazing things with xp is as simple as d o s. yes, that's

right, dos as in ms-dos, as in microsoft disk operating system. windows xp (as
well as nt and 2000) comes with two versions of dos. command.com is an old dos
version. various versions of command.com come with windows 95, 98, se, me,
window 3, and dos only operating systems.

the other dos, which comes only with xp, 2000 and nt, is cmd.exe. usually
cmd.exe is better than command.com because it is easier to use, has more
commands, and in some ways resembles the bash shell in linux and other unix-type
operating systems. for example, you can repeat a command by using the up arrow
until you back up to the desired command. unlike bash, however, your dos command
history is erased whenever you shut down cmd.exe. the reason xp has both
versions of dos is that sometimes a program that won?t run right in cmd.exe will
work in command.com

note : m not comparing bash to dos

dos is your number one windows gateway to the internet, and the open sesame to
local area networks. from dos, without needing to download a single hacker
program, you can do amazingly sophisticated explorations and even break into
poorly defended computers.

****************
you can go to jail warning: breaking into computers is against the law if you do
not have permission to do so from the owner of that computer. for example, if
your friend gives you permission to break into her hotmail account, that won't
protect you because microsoft owns hotmail and they will never give you
permission.
****************
****************
you can get expelled warning: some kids have been kicked out of school just for
bringing up a dos prompt on a computer. be sure to get a teacher's written
permission before demonstrating that you can hack on a school computer.

that's right. you have read it perfectly from letter to letter and rest assured
you're brain has'nt gone insane.

by some hardware manipulations you can run dvd in your cd drive.

here is the basic information about a cd and a dvd.

there are two types of cd-rom drives we can mod:

24x to 40x
40x or higher

drives slower than 24x are too old to be modified.

24x to 40x cd roms

code:
laser head adjustments:

the track pitch of cds is 1.6 microns, and the track pitch of dvds is only 0.8
microns. the minimum length of track pits of cds is 0.843mm, and the minimum
length of track pits of dvds is 0.293mm. that's why dvd discs can store much more
data in the size of a cd.
pinpointing this situation, we need to adjust the laser head so it can read discs
with smaller track pitches and shorter track pits. open up the cd-rom drive, do
you see a lens on the rail? that's the laser head. on the side of the laser head,
there's a screw you can adjust.

code:
this is the key of this mod.

this screw can adjust the size of the laser beam that lands on the disc. referring
to the above, after adjusting, the laser beam should be less than 0.293mm, to suit
the needs of dvd discs. so turn that screw 2-3 times.mark with a pencil, in case
you forget how many times you turned that screw.
dvd-rom drives can play dvd movies smoothly at 4x speed. if we're modifying a 32x
cd-rom drive, the rotation speed is obviously too high, increasing heat, and
shortening the life of the drive.
so we need to decrease the speed of it.
most people know that power supplies can provide 5v (red wire) and 12v (yellow
wire) electricity output for molex connectors. find the molex connector you'll
plug into the modifying cd-rom drive, cut the yellow wire or insulate it with
tape, so only 5v of electricity is transferred to the cd-rom drive. the speed of
the drive is now 32 * 5/17 = 9.41x and can now fulfill our requirements.

code:
40x or higher cd roms

when 40x cd-rom drives are released, most manufacturers are already producing dvd-
rom drives. to lower cost, they use the same core as dvd-rom drives with dvd
functions disabled. what we need to do here is to re-enable the dvd function.
open up the cd-rom, behind the circuit board, look for a jumper that says dvd
jump. find a jumper to connect this jumper. thin metal wire also works fine.
ok, so the dvd function is unlocked, but we still need to decrease the speed. use
the instructions above on how to decrease the speed of the drive.
