A Worcester man has been reflecting on the experience of observing his first Ramadan as a recently converted Muslim
convert Islam in 2010 after being brought up in a Christian home and then being an atheist for a number of years. Ive never been content with other peoples explanations or another way I could say it: I was guided by Allah, said Mr Vernon. Mr Vernon described his first Ramadan as an achievement. He said: Its been testing but all in quite a positive way - Ive done enough research to know its not all about doing without food. Its also about yourself and
the way you see yourself, being nicer in general to other people and focussing a lot more on your religion. Theres a real sense of achievement at the end of it all. Discipline Mr Vernon, who is now engaged to another Muslim, attends the Tallow Hill mosque in Worcester. Last year, he observed prayers and also read a lot during the month of Ramadan. I also I did all the fasting but the difference this year is (there was) a lot more self reflection religiously
and going to the mosque and breaking fast with fellow Muslims, he said. The Islam calendar is divided
Fasting means no liquids and no food and Mr Vernon said last year he also quit smoking on the first day of Ramadan. He said he found maintaining a job while fasting was challenging. I was breaking fast very late and getting up extremely early - I got quite irritable. Observing at home and at mosque is easier to do but at work you seem to get distracted - it does take a bit of discipline but it does seem more spiritual. Its not easy but I think the benefits overtake anything else.

TN IUML election 2011 -The Young Thalapathi K.A.M Abubacker to continue as party General Secretary
In Tamilnadu every political party has its own ThalapathiCommender, the IUML in Tamilnadu finds its Thalapathi in the young K.A.M Abubacker. When many present office bearers of the party have wavered, maneuvered, faulted and altered their loyalty, K.A.M Abubacker followed the IUML leadership right from Sirajul Millath A.K.A Abdul Samad Sahib down to the present leadership Muneerul Millath Prof: K.M Khader Mohideen with unswering loyalty and dedication that is rarely found in the treacherous political field. He knows no other party than IUML and he accepts no other leadership than IUML leadership. He started his political career two decades ago as a Youth Leaguer, stepped to the MSF organaizor and labored to reach the present position in the party. The party President Prof: K.M Khader Mohideen found this raw diamond in the IUML office in Chennai, picked him up,cut the corners of the raw diamond and gifted to the party as a glowing valuable diamond. By his hardwork, total commitment and dedication, he has endeared himself to the Party National President E.Ahamed and the State President Prof. K.M.Khader Mohideen. He is fondly called by his colleagues in the party as YOUNG THALAPTHI. The party leadership always esteems his valuable service and often talks high of him in private and public. Abubacker belongs to Kayalpati nam in Tuticorin district, Tamilnadu, a cultural and commercial center of Tamil muslims. He hails from an illustrious family whose ancestry has links with Egyptian Arabs. His Arab origin can be guessed from his glowing red face with charactrastic, Arab Sheik style well graduate from Chennai New College and he never lags behind in his temporal and religious duties. His sweet pleasant brief conversation, his happy companionship, his congenial temperament, his adoptability to adverse situation, his quick judgement of the people, his etiquette and his equanimity are all his plus points in the muslim politics. K.A.M Abubacker spends most of his times with the IUML headquarters Quaid-EMillath Manzil Chennai. His critics finds fault in him that the General Secretary of the party is always seen perched on his seat in the party office. This uncomplementory comment is far from the truth and the General Secretary Abubacker knows well that a ship is build not to be anchored on the harbor always but to sail on the rough sea and face tha storm. - K.T. trimmed short beard on his lower jaw. His family had a lucrative diamond trade in many countries of the world, but it did not charm the young Abubacker who left the trade and landed in the humble house of service in the IUML. He had his schooling in Mohideen Matric Higher Secondary School in Kayalpatinam, which was inaugurated by the IUML Leader and then the Chief Minister of Kerala C.H. Mohamed Koya is to be noted. As per the decree Sant Balak Das of Allahabads Kalinjar parganas Chitrakoot was given 330 bighas of land without any lagaan. The temple is now in a poor state despite enormous funds at the disposal. The discord amongst Mahants has led to the situation, say locals. Interestingly, Aurangzeb had not only got the temple constructed but also wrote the order of rajbhog, himself. The land adjoining the Balaji temple has been encroached by musclemen and the infighting amongst the temple committee has hit the structure, which is crumbling, says the District Magistrate, Chitrakot. pursue Al-Qaida. Forget chasing terrorists in Yemen and Somalia, unless the local governments are willing to join in hunt. Those are not the words of some human rights activist, are some far-left congress man. They are from the retired admiral and former Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair-the man who was until, recently nominally in charge of the entire American effort to find, track, and take out terrorists. Now, he is calling for that campaign to be reconsiderd, and possibly even junked. Starting with the drone attacks. Yes, the take out some mid-level terrorists, Blair said. But they are not strategically effective. If the drones stopped flying tomorrow, Blair told the audience at the Aspen Security Forum, It is not going to lower the threat to the U.S. AlQaida and its allies hane proven It can sustain its level of resistance to an air-only campaign,he said. He noted that the U.S. intelli gence and home land security communities are spending about $ 80 billion a year, out side of Afganistan and Pakistan. Yet Al-Qaida and its affiliates only have about 4000 members world wide. That is $ 20 million per terrorist per year, Blair pointed out. Blair mentioned that 17 Ameri cans have been killed on U.S. soil by terrorists since 9/11- 14 of them in the Ft.Hood massacre. Meanwhile, auto accidents, mur ders and rapes combined have killed an estimated 1.5 million people in the past decade. what is it that justifies this amount of money on this narrow problem?

Sachar Recommendations put in Ice-Box
Sachar Panel Members fear that their recommendations suggested by the Sachar Committee to uplift Muslims on social, educational and economic fronts may not get implemented because of lack of will on the part of the Government and the procedures followed to implement it. Almost five years have passed by after the Sachar Committee submitted its over view on the plight of Muslims but nothing seems to have been done substantially on the ground towards implementing Sachars Recommendations. Justice Sachar who was instrumental in drafting the report, is hurt to find that the government once praised for setting up the committee in the year 2005 has so far failed to implement its main recommendations has suggested by the committee. The study, of 123 middle aged and older adults found that those who added yoga classes to standard diabetes care shed a handful of pounds over three months . Meanwhile, their average blood sugar levels held steady in contrast to the non-yoga- practicing control group, whose blood sugar levels rose. The findings, reported in the journal Diabetes Care, do not suggest that yoga should replace other forms of exercise for people with type 2 diabetes a disease commonly associate with obesity. To really lose weight and rein in blood sugar, more vigorous exercise would work better, accor ding to Shree Laxmi V.Hegde of the Srinivas Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre in Mangalore. In our study the effect of yoga on BMI (body mass index) and blood sugar control was marginal, said Hegde, the lead researcher on the study. But, she added, it should be noted that yoga controlled the blood sugar levels which otherwise rose in the control group. In addition to that, the study found , signs of so-called oxidative stress declined in the yoga group.
Syeda Hameed, Planning Commi ssion Member has been given the responsibility to monitor the implementation of the report a couple of months ago . Surprisingly the Monitoring Committee has met only once. Dr.Rakesh Basant who is an economist believes that the decision of the government to make minority affairs ministry a nodal agency in implementing the recommendations was a mistake as most of the programmes are meant for all under privileged groups including Muslims and for that matter a general ministry like home or finance could serve the purpose in amore effective manner. Shariff is of the view that Ministry of Finance has to make sure that Muslims businesses can avail loans easily without any hassle. He further questioned as to how Muslims in need of loans can look forward towards the National Minority Development Fund. Another report finds that Public sector banks have failed to comply with the goverments order aimed to improve the economic condition of the Muslims by increasing the share of lending to minority communities to 15% of priority sector loans by March 2011. It reveals that the problem faced by an individual to get loans from the concern department because of lack of will to facilitate a smooth transaction.
main recommendations according to him were to set up Equal Opportunities Commission and the Diversity Index. This was done so as to extract more funds from the UGC to benefit varied institutions not exclusively only for Muslims but also for other set of social groups in India. Abusaleh shariff another Panel Member is dejected by the fact that the government instead of trying to encourage Muslims into the mainstream it is specifying Muslims which is in contrast to the recommendation of the report. For example the government is only eager to modernize Madrasas where roughly 4% of Muslims get education and hardly talks of benefit of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to be extended to Muslims on the lines of the recommendation for mainstreaming Muslims.

Assad may opt for war to escape Russian, Arab, European ultimatums
weights - Russia, the Europ ean Union and key Muslim nations gave Syrian President Bashar Assad tough ultimatums for ending his ferocious crackdown on protest. Nevertheless, on Monday, his troops shot dead 17 people in Syrian cities - even as he received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov who arrived in Damascus with a last warning from President Dmitry Medvedev: Recall you soldiers to their bases immediately and implement changes or Moscow will endorse UN Security Council sanctions stiff enough to stifle the Syrian economy. Those sanctions are only a step away from a resolution authorizing NATO, together with Muslim and Arab nations, to intervene militarily in the Syrian crisis. debkafiles military and intelli gence sources disclose that Turkey, as a NATO member, and Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council, have been in discussions this past week on the form this intervention would take: 1. The long-considered Turkish plan to send troops into northern Syria and carve out a military pocket from which Syrias rebels would be supplied with military, logistic and medical aid. 2. Ankara and Riyadh will provide the anti-Assad movements with large quantities of weapons and funds to be smuggled in from outside Syria. 3. The Turkish military incursion would be matched by Saudi troops entering southern Syria at the head of GCC contingents. They would move in via Jordan and establish a second military enclave under GCC auspices. The third option came up in Tehran last Thursday, Aug. 25, when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad heard some straight talk from the visiting Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. debkafiles exclusive Iranian sources reveal that the Qatari ruler slapped down a blunt warning: Assad was finished, he said, and advised Iran to face up to this. For the sake of even minimal relations with the Arab world, Iran must ditch the Assad regime in Damascus or face the real danger of the Syrian crisis deteriorating into a regional conflict whether against Syria or by Syria, he did not explain. Ahmadinejad turned the emir down flat, according to our sources. He
said Iran would never renege on its pact with Assad. Two days later, our military sources report, Syria deployed 25 anti-air missile batteries along its Turkish border. In Brussels, Monday, the 27-member European Union bowed to Washingtons demand and finally decided to corner Assad by clamping down an embargo on imported Syrian crude. Europe is the biggest buyer of Syrian oil, importing $ 4.5 billion worth a year. This provides Syria with its main source of foreign currency revenue and the primary funding for Assads military operations against dissidents. Once this source dries up, the Syrian ruler will be forced to cut down on those operations unless Iran is willing to make up the difference. Assad is sure to appreciate that the coalition lining up against him of the US, Europe, Turkey, the Gulf Arab nations and Russia, are almost identical to the alignment (barring Moscow) which has just overthrown Muammar Qaddafis regime in Tripoli. He and his advisers have no doubt discussed the possibility of being at the receiving end of the same treatment. Their rulers growing isolation and the real prospect of international punitive measures have given the opposition new heart after nearly six months of standing up to a deadly crackdown: Saturday, Aug. 27 Assad saw his own capital rallying against him with big demonstrations in central Damascus. The pressure from the street continued to build up through Sunday and Monday, some of the protesters venturing to hoist the old Syrian Republican flag instead of the Baathist version introduced by the Assads. Aleppo is now the only Syrian city which has not so far come out against the regime. Tuesday morning, while Assad attended an Eid alFitr worship at a Damascus mosque, his soldiers sprayed demonstrators in the eastern town of Deir al-Zour with bullets. Well-informed military sources warn that Assad will not be cowed by the international, military and economic noose tightening around his neck. He is far more likely to try and loosen it by lashing out against his enemies, starting with Israel. Iran will certainly be a willing supporter of such belligerence, starting a war which could spread like wildfire across the region.

Chancellorship, Mr. Basheer said the party was seriously concerned about the controversy following misleading reports that appeared in a section of the press about the issue, which he said had nothing to do with facts. The IUML Legislature Party leader and the Education Minister had been asked to propose an academically competent person for the post, Mr. Basheer said. The IUML had reportedly suggested the name of V.P. Abdul Hameed, a retired schoolteacher, for the post.

We
Some of our historians have made allegations that Muslims in general have a tendency of separatism and do not love India as their mother land. The answer to this is our own TIGER of Mysore Tippu Sultan who died in the battle field defending his own country. At a time when most of the Indian rulers were incapable of understanding the consequences of the rise of British, Tippu Sultan had developed a world consciousness. He had sent envoys to turkey in 1784-85 to France in1787-88, to Zaman shah of Afghanistan in 1876 and in 1799 which was intercepted by British. Tippu Sultan was a champion of Hindu- Muslim unity. The archaeological Department of the Government of Mysore still preserves his thirty letters written to Shankarcharya of Shringeri Mutt, a great saint of his time, reverentially begging to him to return to his state and pray for his success in fighting against the foreigners. Dr. R.C. Majundar says of all the Indian ruling princess of this period, Hyder Ali and his son Tippu Sultan were the most uncompromising opponents of the growth of British Political power Gandhiji in one of his articles calls Tippu as a greatest martyr of Indian freedom. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in one of his foreword writes. The
revolt against British scarcely had any tinge of communalism, in their struggle for freedom both Hindus and Muslims stood shoulder to shoulder with the single object of liberating themselves from the British oppression. During the first independence revolt of 1857, in Kanpur region, it was Nana Sahib and Azimullah who raised the banner of revolt. In Delhi, during the same period, Moulana Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi who was an influential Moulvi, had addressed a congregation of Muslims in Jamia Masjid and gave a Fatwa (religious decree) to fight the British. When the revolt against British in Delhi was defeated, one of the British officers wrote Hundreds of Ulema were blown by cannons while thousands were hanged and others deported to Andaman Island. Among the first batch of persons to arrive at the Andaman were well-known Moulvis like Mufti Mazhar Kareem of Delhi and Munshi Inayat Ahamed of Lucknow. These are just a few instances I have quoted which is just a tip of the iceberg from the pages of History. Now I would like to put forth a few questions to our learned critics, biased historians, and intellectuals the following. a) Are these facts not enough to acknowledge that Muslims have equally contributed to the freedom struggle?
