Bible Sword Drill

The leader needs to pick out several key verses from the subject being studied. Make sure everyone attending has a Bible. All Bibles need to be closed. The leader reads a passage. Everyone must wait until the leader is finished giving the passage such as John 14:1 and says, "Now." At that point, each person opens the Bible and tries to find the passage. As soon as a youth finds it, the person holds up a hand or says, "Got it." On the leader's OK, the person who first found the passage, reads it. The group can then discuss the passage or continue with more passages to look up. The person gets a point for each passage found first. The youth with the most points at the end of the game, wins. Another option is to divide the youth group into two or more groups. The group that finds a passage first receives a point. The group that gains the most points, wins. Present small prizes to the winners or let them go first when it is time for snacks.

"Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man." -Proverbs 3:3-4 "He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. " -1 Corinthians 1:8-9 "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen." -1 Timothy 1:15-17
2 Peter 1:2 May undeserved kindness and peace be increased to YOU by an accurate knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 forasmuch as his divine power has given us freely all the things that concern life and godly devotion, through the accurate knowledge of the one who called us through glory and virtue. 4 Through these things he has freely given us the precious and very grand promises, that through these YOU may become sharers in divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time--God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen." -1 Timothy 6:12-16 "Peace comes when there is no cloud between us and God. Peace is the consequence of forgiveness, God's removal of that which obscures His face and so breaks union with Him.

The happy sequence culminating in fellowship with God is penitence, pardon, and peace -the first we offer, the second we accept, and the third we inherit."

"For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time." -1 Timothy 2:5-6
