------------------Part A Change Notes ------------------A.1 GCS R6.1 Release B ---------------------Copyright year is corrected in GCS login banner A.2 GCS R6.1 Release A ---------------------GCS R6.1 Release A General Communication Service (GCS) R6.1 is upgradable from G CS R6.0 and GCS R5.x versions. However upgradation from GCS R4.x is not supporte d and it must be uninstalled first before installing GCS R6.1 version. GCS R6.1 is backward compatible with GCS R6.0 on Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server Standard and Enterprise Editions. The main feature added in this release is the support for Windows Vista and Wind ows Server 2008. Other features included in this release are as below: 1. 2. Error logging in Scheduled import from NSN NetAct database has been enhanced 3. The text "Nokia Q1 pipe connection" is renamed to "Q1 pipe connection" 4. Splash screen will not be displayed when connection tool is launched from oth er applications 5. Corrected the dialog display issue when applications use XP theme controls 6. The "Nokia Siemens Network" folder which contains a shortcut to GCS connectio n tool is moved from the StartMenu -> All Programs to Start Menu ------------------Part B Known Issues ------------------B.1 GCS Connection Tool: Database is in use by another application -------------------------------------------------------------------GCS Connection Tool can sometimes give above mentioned error message that can be safely ignored. Press "Yes" to continue. B.2 GCS Connection Tool Help Window close error ------------------------------------------------In some workstations closing GCS Connection Tool while help window is left open may crash GCS Connection Tool and/or node manager that has opened it. It is recommended to close GCS Connection Tool help window before closing GCS Connection Tool and node managers. B.3 GCS Connection Tool MML connection sharing ------------------------------------------------GCS does not restrict use of MML connection to one user only as it should. B.4 Very long bus list with Nokia Siemens Networks Q1 Agent ----------------------------------------------Bus list for Q1 Agent managed buses can be very long. Due to a limitation in Nokia Siemens Networks Q1 protocol, answer to bus list query cannot exceed ab out 1000 characters. If answer is longer than this limit, it is truncated. B.5 Mouse cursor position disappears if GCS Connection Tool is idle --------------------------------------------------------------------Mouse cursor disappears from the GCS Connection Tool, if it is idle for more than 30 seconds. Cursor reappears on mouse movement. B.6 Nodes are not reflected when imported from NetAct to Access using NetAct UI of NCT ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Nodes are not reflected after importing from NetAct UI of NCT until the applicat ion is restarted. This has been observed when NCT is launched from Node manager. B.7 Compacting GCS database has to be done only using GCSCompactDB.exe but not w ith ODBC administrator panel -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------GCS database dbs.mdb file has to be compacted only using GCSCompactDB.exe. If th e compacting is done from

ODBC data source administrator dialog by selecting the DBS32 data source name, i t is clearing the security permissions of dbs.mdb file which would cause an error "Unable to open GCS datab ase because the database file (dbs.mdb) is in read only mode when the connection tool is opened as a normal use r. To resolve this problem add the write permission to "Everyone" user for the dbs.mdb file and this can be don e by the administrative user only. B.8 GCS DB Configuration Tool not closing automatically on Windows Vista -----------------------------------------------------------------------GCS Connection Tool will not close when Exit button is clicked while GCS DB Conf iguration window is left open. This is observed only on Windows Vista and Serve r 2008 OS. However on XP and windows 2003 server the tool will be closed. GCS DB Configuration Tool window should be closed before closing the GCS Connection To ol.
