Who is Jesus to you?

Key Text:
Luke 1:26-35

Introduction:
Through the fall of mankind, sin entered the world and Satan became the prince of this world.
Although we cannot see it physically, demonic control is ruling over mankind. When the devil is
reigning in somebody’s life, their life is unsatisfied and unhappy.

God made us to be a dwelling place of His spirit. So when His spirit and His presence fill us, we
will experience true satisfaction.

God prophesized thousands of years before Jesus, that He will send a redeemer to save us
from demonic control and sin. Then, the angel Gabriel came to the virgin Mary and told her that
she would bear the Messiah, Jesus Christ. She did not know how that would happen. But the
angel said that when the Holy Spirit falls upon her, nothing is impossible…she believed!
Through this conversation between the angel and Mary, we can see who Jesus truly is!

Who is Jesus to you personally?

Body:

I. Jesus is a man who was born to be the Savior of the world (v. 31).

A. All scripture prophesized about the Messiah coming through a woman.

i. Gen 3:15 – the savior will come through a woman, not man
1. The fall of mankind messed with God’s plan. But He was going to
fix the problem and destroy the devil’s work by sending one of the
offspring of woman as Messiah.
ii. Isaiah 7:14 – Isaiah prophesized that Jesus would come through a virgin
as Emmanuel
iii. Matthew 1:21 – Matthew also quoted Isaiah’s prophesy, that Jesus would
come through a virgin

B. Why should Jesus not be born through man? Because then He will be a sinner!
i. Through the bloodline of Adam (man) we carry the DNA of sin
ii. How could a sinner die for other sinners?
iii. God brought His only Son into the world  born as flesh to die  but
born without sin b/c came through virgin and Holy Spirit

C. Why do we need this savior?

i. In order to go to heaven, we must be sinless.
ii. But because of the fall of man, we were all born as sinners in our nature.
iii. Therefore, only Jesus (who is sinless) can die in our place to remove our
sin!
*** We must understand our original condition in order to realize the work of Christ for us!

iv. When you believe that Jesus died for you, there is a power that saves
you.

v. To the people of the world, the cross is foolish! But for those that are
saved, the cross is the power of God!
vi. But even though you are born again as a new creation  the devil
still has power to overcome you!!
1. Adam and Eve were righteous at first! But still they were tempted
by the devil and they fell!
2. Even though you believe and are cleansed from sin, you can still
fall to the work of the enemy.
a. Colossians 2:15 – through the cross, Jesus not only saved
us but also overcame the power of the devil!
b. THEREFORE, the devil has no power over us!
c. The only power he holds is to lie to you, saying that you
are still under the authority of the devil.

Jesus means “He is salvation”  the name says who he is!

II. Jesus is the son of God (He is God!) and has the name above all names (v. 31).

A. Jesus is Lord of all things (heavenly and earthly).

B. He died on the cross to fulfill God’s purpose  obeyed the Father to the point of
death  received the name above all names!

*** In your real, daily life…is He your Savior AND Lord??

C. You must follow Jesus to the point of death as well!
D. When you are a servant of Jesus, you carry His desire to follow the Father
(Jesus will reign over you with His love, mercy, compassion etc.)
E. When you obey Satan, you will carry his desires (lust, evil, death, confusion, etc.)

III. Jesus is a King who will reign forever, with a kingdom established on the earth that
will never end (v. 32b-33).

A. Daniel 2:44 – saw the Kingdom of God established in the end

i. If you don’t see that kingdom, you will be looking after the things of this
world.
ii. Seek first the kingdom of God (in repentance and prayer).
B. Daniel 7:18 – Jesus will rule over the Kingdom of God and we will join with Him
as His bride
i. Therefore, we must be trained and prepared for the Kingdom of God.
C. Luke 12:29-32 – do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink but seek His
Kingdom, for God is wanting to give His Kingdom to His flock
i. That is what sets us apart from the rest of the world  seeking God
ii. We must be apart from the system of the world, since the rest of the world
does not see the Kingdom of God
iii. You must live as an example; either they will stone you or ask questions.

Conclusion:
Who do you say Jesus is? He is my only Savior, Lord, and King. I will join His Kingdom of God!

Questions:
1. Have you ever had an experience where you failed to recognize a person for who
he/she really is and you either made a fool out of yourself or missed the chance to
talk to that person?
2. Who do you say Jesus is? How do you know that’s what you think Jesus is? (Have
evidence!)
3. Then whom do you follow, whom do you give your obedience?
