News and Announcements

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend and the warmer weather. I spent yesterday watching my youngest son play soccer. We couldnt have asked for better weather. As we were driving to the soccer game in Rutland, the changing colors of fall were absolutely stunning. I have attached our Parent Volunteer schedule. I would like to start this week. If you are planning on helping out, we need a Cori form completed every 3 years. I am happy to send home a form if you need one and please remember that Mrs. Adair needs a copy of your drivers license with the completed form. Please let me know if you are not able to come in on your assigned day. Thank you in advance for helping out. We will have math club on Tuesday morning. Math help will begin promptly at 8:00am every Tuesday morning. Please let me know if your child is planning on attending. Student Council speeches are due on Thursday. Every th 4 grade student is expected to write a speech even if they do not wish to run for student council. Any student wishing to run for student council should practice their speech ahead of time and be prepared to answer questions about why they would like to be elected. Speeches will be given Friday morning with the election following immediately afterwards. Our new Student Council members will be announced on Friday afternoon. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Warmly, Sandra Travers

meet on Tuesday. Groups 3, 4 and 5 will meet on Wednesday. Please check in with your children to see if they are prepared to meet with their group to discuss their completed Think Cards and the weeks reading. Math We will begin Unit 3 this week. The results of the Unit 3 pretest will help us to group the students with similar strengths and needs. Additionally, practice your math facts as time allows. Social Studies We are now masters of mapping skills and are on our way to learn more about the physical features (ie. specific landforms and water sources) and natural resources (ie. water, trees, minerals, soil) of our great country. If you have any National Geographic or travel magazines we could use them in our Social Studies class this year! Science We completed our scratch test and found Quartz to be the hardest commonly found mineral. We will go on a Calcite Quest next to find out which rocks contain Calcite by placing them in vinegar and closely observing the reaction. Our final experiment will be to determine the minerals found in Granite. A study guide for our Rocks and Minerals Assessment will be coming home later this week. Our assessment will be on Friday, th October 28 .
