Membership Categories

Highlights of membership categories as specified in Article 4, Section 4 of Joint Help Support Association`s constitution. ARTICLE 5: MEMBERSHIP Section 4. Membership of the Association shall be open to all persons 18 years of age or over, and shall consist of the following categories: (1) Active member (voting membership) A person, who actively participates, attends all meetings, in good standing in payment of dues and abides by the corporation act, constitution and by-laws of the Association. (2) Permanent member (voting membership) A permanent member is an active member, who has tremendously contributed to the advancement of the goals and objectives of the Association. Such a member shall be approved by both the permanent membership committee and the Board of Directors. (3) Associate member (non-voting membership) A person, with a continuing interest in the aims and objectives of the Association; willing to abide by the constitution and by-laws of the Association; in good standing in payment of membership fees, attend at least one meeting in the Association s year, but does not actively participates in the activities of the Association. Associate Members shall not be entitled to nominate, vote or hold any office in the Association, but shall be entitled to enjoy other benefits and privileges of the Association. (4) Friend of Joint Help (non-voting membership) A person, either living in Greater Toronto Area or outside the Greater Toronto Area, or outside Canada, who has interests in assisting the Association to achieve its aims and objectives, shall become a Friend of Joint Help. Such a member shall not pay membership fees or dues, shall not nominate, vote or hold any office in the Association, but shall enjoy other benefits and privileges of the Association. (5) Honorary member (non-voting membership) A person shall be honored for outstanding participation or contribution to the Association and / or Sierra Leone community. Nomination of a person for honorary membership shall be made by a member in good standing. The Board of directors shall approve or reject the application. Honorary members shall not pay membership fees or dues, shall not nominate, vote or hold any office in the Association, and shall not have the benefits and obligations accorded to other members, but shall enjoy other benefits and privileges of the Association.
