WORK EXPERIENCE

FBL Financial Group Technical Engineer

January 2004 - Present West Des Moines, Iowa

Served as the senior technical engineer for both Netware and Windows server teams to manage 700 Windows servers, 15 Netware servers, 80 Linux, and 50+ ESX Servers across 10 states. I was third level technical support for user support and server issues on 24x7 rotational basis. I was often consulted by other administrators and engineers to resolve difficult troubleshooting issues. I was the internal subject matter expert for Windows Server administration, virtualization environment, Active Directory, and distributed server platform. Example Projects Designed and administrated server consolidation program through use of VMware ESX server and VMware VirtualCenter. I wrote the strategy document, designed and administrated the environment. The environment has grown to over 50 ESX hosts and 800 Virtual machines production environment. I have also designed the performance monitoring processes and improved disaster recovery processes to utilize virtualization benefits. I was instrumental to setting best practice process and procedures, and utilized PowerCli and PowerShell scripting to maximize administrative efforts and automation. Designed and implemented enterprise file, print, and directory services migration from Netware 6.5 to Windows 2003 R2. This project involved replacing the enterprise and remote office file servers and file permissions to Windows file servers, migrating from iPrint to Active Directory-published printers, and reconfiguring Netware LDAP clients to utilize enterprise LDAP service. Performed engineering and technical lead role on agent application delivery project, which affected 2500. The project implemented Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 to replace remote application installation and was responsible for $4.5 million in cost reductions in remote office VPN elimination. Designed and implemented NT 4 to Active Directory upgrade project, which involved an upgrade to Netware 6.5, migration to Nsure Identity Manager 2 synchronization technology, and implementing password synchronization between distributed directory services. Created the ESX test environment and plans, and handled communication with the business units. The project also included the upgrade of multiple mission critical NT4 member servers using ESX server and P2V to prevent downtime and production outage.
