POWADOR.
Complete Program.
Dear readers,
Finest technology made in Germany combined with utmost elegance was our declared goal when we started out to develop our new group of three phase inverters. And nothing describes the results better than our slogan: Power meets Elegance. This new generation of inverters excels not only with relentless power it also shines with its extraordinary design and the best value for money for quality made in Germany. We underline that by introducing a Deluxe line of our Powador inverters: an optional high gloss finish lends a visual quality to these inverters making them right at home in a luxurious ambience. Too beautiful to be hiding away in the cellar. Hightech doesnt need to be unattractive. As beautiful women are so often intelligent and powerful, too. KACO new energy and high jump goddess Ariane Friedrich deliver striking proof of that. Woman is the better man, so they say, and KACO has the better inverter portfolio and thats not just the looks. Sincerely,

Milestones
As the year changed from 1998 to 1999, Ralf Hofmann and a dozen employees left the old KACO group to start a separate company that was solely dedicated to photovoltaics: KACO GERTETECHNIK. With them, they brought decades of experience from KACO, which was already the worlds largest supplier of electromechanical choppers in the 50s, the predecessors of todays inverters. With one of its first series productions, the transformerless inverters, the young company launched itself into the solar age with a bang. KACO helped with the successful launch of a technology that is now standard thanks to its high efficiency. The company is now one of the largest manufacturers of photovoltaic inverters in the world and is called KACO new energy. In addition to inverters, KACO new energy supplies robust, reliable power supplies for use in industry and railway vehicles as well as on-board solutions in the area of electromobility.
1998/99
The expanding equipment technology profit centre detaches itself from the KACO consortium and is renamed KACO GERTETECHNIK GmbH.
2003
KACO GERTETECHNIK GmbH moves into a new plant in Neckarsulm.
2005
The development and logistics centre in Erlenbach opens, as does the research and development centre in Kassel.
2006
Plant III, a production centre, is opened in Neckarsulm. The subsidiary in Greece is founded.
2007
The new research and development team for central inverters is created in South Korea.
2008
The new logistics centre is opened. Construction begins on the new headquarters.
2009
KACO GERTETECHNIK GmbH is renamed KACO new energy GmbH and opens up new fields of business, including the mobility sector. The new headquarters opens for business. Founding of the sales office in China.
2010
The expansion of production capacity to 10 gigawatts begins: The production sites are split up into Germany for the European market, the USA and Canada for the North American market, and South Korea for Asia. Subsidiaries in France and Italy are founded.
2011

Philosophy
We turn passion into power. We at KACO new energy are backing the energy turnaround 100%. And we staunchly back all of those who have committed themselves to becoming independent of fossil and atomic energy sources: In KACO new energy you have found the right partner to pave the way for the change to solar energy supply. Because there are two things you can depend on with KACO new energy: a high-quality, reliable product and a company that has internalised sustainability and environmental responsibility. Our commitment goes far beyond climate protection. Part of our corporate philosophy is to allow the lesser-privileged to share in our companys success as well. For example, we support TARGET (Rdiger Nehberg's organization opposing female genital mutilation), the Peter Maffay Foundation, and the paediatric clinic foundation "Groe Hilfe fr kleine Helden" (= "Big help for little heroes"). KACO new energy also bears a responsibility toward its employees. Their accomplishments and motivation have made our upwards climb much easier. That has been possible due to respectful, fair and open treatment of one another. Each employee is to have the courage to develop and present new ideas. Without courage there is no change, and without change there is no progress. The high quality of our products comes from the employees sense of responsibility and their sharing in the company profits. All employees are expected to take part in our quality management system, to follow defined processes at all times and to strive for progress through continuous improvements. The outstanding qualifications of our employees are an important prerequisite for the quality of our products. Because KACO new energy is known for its high standards: We provided a seven year warranty before anyone else in the business. As you can see, theres more under the housing of an inverter from KACO new energy than just technology. You get our passion as well as our commitment to people and the environment as part of the package. Does that make you feel good, and do you share our convictions? Then lets work together towards a renewable future.

The price of greatness is responsibility. We work in an industry that generates power from sunlight: a renewable energy that protects the basis for life, a sound environment. The responsibility we bear extends beyond that, however. Because of this, it is not only important WHAT we do, but also HOW we do it. That is critical for credibility. And this is why we are especially proud of our zero-emissions production, which has been attested with a certificate from Steinbeis Transfer Centre. KACO new energy GmbH purchases green electricity from Elektrizittswerke Schnau and LichtBlick AG. Thus, we not only produce clean power with the Powador inverters clean power is already incorporated in them during production. The bottom line is that we produce without emissions. In periods of high solar irradiance, our own photovoltaic systems, with 1,150 kilowatts of power themselves, supply more power than is needed in the plants. The Service Center (Plant 2) is heated with gas using a lion block heating station. The heat for the production plants (Plants 1 and 3) comes from a wood chip block heating station. KACO new energy not only generates climate-neutral power itself; according to their proofs of origin, our two certified green energy suppliers also generate power primarily from renewable energy sources, including biomass cogeneration units. Only a small proportion originates from gas-operated cogeneration. No coal-fired or atomic energy is used at KACO new energy. Our plants are located in the Neckarsulm industrial area known as "Trendpark" and in the nearby community of Erlenbach. Employees travel between the sites using bicycles. There are electric cars available for transportation. Employees who frequently travel on business receive a rail discount card (BahnCard). In order to compensate for emissions caused by business flights taken by employees, KACO new energy also participates in the international myclimate initiative (www.myclimate.org). It supports projects that lead to a direct reduction in greenhouse gases. We received the CSR Mobility Prize for environmentally aware business travel in 2010 from DMM, VCD and B.A.U.M for this commitment.

Efficient and durable Our Powador inverters cover a comprehensive output range for systems ranging from a single family house to solar parks with output in the megawatt range. The portfolio also includes inverters for island systems and extensive monitoring accessories for PV systems. Because above-average annual yields also depend on the reliability and durability of the units, KACO new energy uses only high-quality components. KACO new energy is certified by TV (a German technical inspection agency) in accordance with ISO 9001:2008, and our products are manufactured in compliance with the terms of the RAL seal of approval for solar energy systems (RAL GZ 966). Transformerless inverters from KACO new energy are available for system power ranging from 3.2 to 39 kW. This is the equivalent of AC rated power from 2.6 to 33.3kW. Our single-phase, transformer units have an AC rated power of 1.65 to 4.6kW. KACO new energy offers these models because galvanic isolation is still required in some countries. They also provide advantages for many modules. In addition, they provide solutions for situations where dimensioning is complex. Three-phase inverters The KACO new energy product range now also offers eight new three-phase inverters with medium power output. We offer three transformerless models with AC rated power of 9 to 12kVA (Powador 10.0TL3 to 14.0TL3) and models with 25 to 33.3kVA (Powador 30.0TL3 to 39.0TL3). This group is rounded off with two galvanically isolated units with 13.5 and 15kVA, the Powador 16.0TR3 and 18.0TR3. We have also added to our range of central inverters. You can now choose exactly the unit that suits your purposes from an intelligently gradated power spectrum from 100 to 500 kW AC rated power. In addition, the megawatt station will be getting a baby sister, the 500-kilowatt station. It will be presented in a 22 | 23 special, light steel housing, which will also adorn the megawatt station in the future. With our inverters, you are optimally equipped to conform to the German Medium Voltage Directive. Personal consumption and Powador-gridsave: Profit from your own consumption, become independent of the grid Since 2009, paragraph 33, section 2 of the the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG) provides for compensation for the personal consumption of solar-generated power, depending on the size of the system and the percentage of power that was used. Starting in January 2011, this ranges from 9.48 cents per kilowatt hour (100 to 500 kW of installed power) to 12.36 cents per kilowatt hour (up to 30kW of installed power)*. KACO new energy is the first manufacturer to have retrofitted its string inverters for this purpose: With the assistance of our Powador-priwatt, the inverters recognize a surplus of solar energy and ensure that your electric appliances are operated using the surplus solar power. The new Powador gridsave goes a step further: it combines the battery, the controller and the interface to the inverter of the photovoltaic system into one compact system. This turns the grid-connected PV system into a solar-fed energy centre. * subject to further amendments of the EEG

With the standard setting, the Powador 5300 supreme works with a clock frequency of 17 kHz. For those who want to get even more from the unit, it operates in Power Boost Mode at a clock frequency of 9kHz via a jumper on the control circuit board. That reduces even further the already low switching losses of the power semiconductor and makes the degree of efficiency even higher. This
operating mode is recommended for locations where the resulting operating noise will not matter. The Powador 5300 supreme has the same basic features as the other transformerless KACO inverters (Powador 3200 to Powador 6600).

Inverters
Intelligence in a box.
For connecting large solar fields to our central inverters, we recommend the use of an intelligent generator junction box (GJB) our Powador Argus string monitoring box. Versions 16S DCS and 24S DCS make ideal companions to Powador XP series central inverters. This is the ideal companion to Powador XP series central inverters and is available in several versions to meet the requirements.

KACO Maximizer
The KACO Maximizer system consists of two main components: the Maximizer, a electronic component which is mounted directly on the module, and the Maximizer Management Unit, which represents the higher-level intelligence of the system. The KACO Maximizer optimises the output power for each module, delivers all the relevant operating data for each module in real time, and allows you to disconnect each module for safe installation, maintenance, or when fighting a fire. The Maximizer Management Unit (MMU) communicates with all of the module Maximizers (wirelessly), controls all processes in real time, and sends the operating data to an external server. This sums up to an online system monitoring for any number of users. The yield-increasing principle of the system is based on intelligent impedance adjustment for the output of each individual module, so that the best possible performance for the entire string is achieved even when the respective output powers are mismatched.
Depending on the size of the PV-plant a Maximizer system normally contains one MMU. For bigger PV-plants additional MMUs might be necessary. The MMU has a manual operating interface and a liquid crystal display, which is mounted in a housing (with protection rating IP65) for on-site programming. The MMU is mounted next to the inverter and communicates with each PV module in the system via the Maximizer. It provides management and control functions for the module Maximizers and serves as an interface to the data centre. The MMU is preconfigured with a CAT-5 Ethernet connection. It contains the PV safe switch a unique, local safety function which is located on the front side of the MMU. If maintenance is to be performed or in the event of an emergency, the operator or emergency personnel can press this button to disconnect all modules on-site (patent pending). PV Safe allows you to electrically disconnect each module from the string, thereby limiting the risk of electric shock, since only the no-load voltage of a single module is present (at the most). This function can be activated with the on-site safety switch or from an external control console. There is no danger of high voltages when then system
is being installed or maintained or in the event that a fire on the system must be extinguished. Fast, external access to the data of the MMU is possible from any computer that has an Internet connection. This allows installers, operators or emergency personnel to view all of the system data. Easy-to-read graphics allows for quick analysis of real time output and the power of the individual system that is behind it. They also help you to see and fix system failures, error codes, or warning messages.

PV modules with differing output power (mismatch) The KACO Maximizer guarantees an optimum energy yield. It records the data for each module and transfers this data to the management unit. The gateway receives and transmits all operating data of the Maximizer. It forms the communication interface between the Maximizer and the management unit The management unit is the heart of theKACO Maximizer system. It provides the communication link between the Maximizers and the inverter, as well as real-time process control, and it forwards the data to a remote server, which can also be used by multiple users to monitor the control system and interact with it. Powador-LOG.
Modern visualisation for your home.
The Powador-LOG is a data logger that you can use to evaluate up to six inverters via RS485 (maximum six inverter addresses). Measured data from the inverters, collected by the data logger is sent via WLAN to a receiver, which can operate using WLAN and has an RSS feed. You can therefore retrieve the PowadorLOG data easily using your smart phone or tablet PC, for example. The graphics have also been optimised for the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod touch, so that the feed can be displayed problemfree in the integrated Apple Safari web browser. To display the RSS feed, you just need one WLAN receiver and a standard web browser, such as Windows Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari. The WLaN receiver can be one of the following:

If you install a system with a rated power of more than 100 kW, you must ensure that the grid operators can control the feed-in power remotely. This is specified by the current German Renewable Energies Act (EEG). With Powador inverters, you are on the right side of the law. KACO Power Control is the new software that keeps law and order. And all KACO new energy feed-in inverters are equipped with this technology. In addition to this new feature, the Powador-proLOG XL data logger is equipped with an additional circuit board to protect the digital inputs. The grid operator issues the command to reduce output to a radio ripple control receiver. It is equipped with four relay outputs that handle the systems rated power in terms of 0%, 30%, 60% and 100%. The data logger translates the signals from the switching output of the radio ripple control receiver and sends a control command to the inverters via RS485. For example, when a signal of 60% is received, the inverters limit the maxi-

mum output to 60%. When a signal of 0% is received, the inverters disconnect from the grid. If no signal is received for five minutes, the inverters feed the full output into the grid again.

KACO Reactive-PowerControl
The standard for generation plants connected to the medium-voltage grid, or BDEW medium-voltage directive for short, requires active network support through the PV systems. KACO new energy has the perfect solution: KACOReactive-Power-Control (KRC). This feature is available as standard in PowadorproLOG XL devices. The medium-voltage directive requires an adjustable range for cos phi from 0.95 inductive to 0.95 capacitive. To achieve these values even on the system level, all Powador inverters have an adjustable cosine phi from 0.8 inductive to 0.8 capacitive. As of 1 April 2011, the mediumvoltage directive in Germany applies for all systems with direct connection to the medium-voltage grid. The following features for controlling reactive power must be applicable according to the standard: active specification via radio ripple control receiver
Fixed specification for reactive power Q Fixed specification for the cos phi power factor Control of reactive power based on target rated power Q (V) Control of cos phi power factor depending on the current cos phi system power (P)
Reactive power Q as a percentage of the systems rated power Fixed specification for the cos phi power factor
All fixed specifications of the transmission grid operator can be set directly using the display in the Powador inverter. In addition, it is possible to set anything from large PV systems to PV power plants easily and automatically from one location using Powador-proLOG XL. This saves you from the tedious manual setting of the inverter, and you will always have an overview using this central control element. Should your grid operator require an active specification through the radio ripple control receiver, you will be on the safe side with the Powador-proLOG XL and Powador inverters and will be able to meet the full spectrum of requirements of the medium-voltage directive. With Powador-proLOG XL, combined control using KACO Power-Control and KRC is no problem. The adaptation to other national directives is in full swing. Powador-proLOG XL offers worldwide advantages for system planning.

Powador-web.
Comprehensive alarm notification and visualisation.
Powador-web is an Internet portal that allows for a comprehensive evaluation and visualisation of photovoltaic systems together with the Powador-proLOG. The password-protected portal allows you to have secure and worldwide access to your system data. As administrator, you can configure which data is displayed. All data received from Powador-proLOG is evaluated, including all electrical inverter data as well as analogue and digital values of the connected sensors. A connected solar sensor makes it possible to relate the actual local irradiance to the current yields of the PV system. Measured values of the ambient and module temperature sensors provide information on the behaviour of your modules and any yield losses due to module temperatures that are too high. You can obtain curves for all DC and AC values, such as current, voltage and power, from the inverter data. You can compare these values to those of other inverters and draw conclusions about the behaviour of your PV systems based on the characteristic curve. All values can be displayed in day, month or year view. Additionally, you can zoom into the day view and detect the smallest deviation in the curve. The target/actual comparison is a highly advanced instrument of Powador-web system evaluation. The target curve is not based on annual projections derived purely from statistics, rather it is fed satellite data that is updated daily. This provides you with a meaningful target curve that you can compare to your actual yields. For large systems and PV power plants, several administrator levels allow you to assume management tasks and to provide an additional service to your customers. Furthermore, you can configure alarm conditions and the type of messages. You are also free to select the recipients of the e-mail, SMS (text message) or fax. The report function makes it possible to generate detailed data tables and send them automatically in intervals the entire time period. Powador-web diagrams can be included on your own website for a one-off charge. Highlights

Powador PV-pilot.
The free system design program.
Powador PV-pilot is a free program that is used for professional design and yield simulation of grid-connected photovoltaic systems. This program replaces its predecessor, KACOcalc Pro. Calculations are based on the technical data of all KACO new energy inverters, several thousand PV module types and irradiation data in the form of average hourly values for the most important PV markets over the last ten years. You can use Powador PV-pilot to design your entire system either based on the module types that are already stored or using certain modules that you enter yourself. You can also calculate the projected yield and the loss from AC and DC lines, including the loss during singlephase and three-phase feed-in. The program is available in English, German, Spanish, Italian and French and is compatible with the Windows operating system.
Start page of Powador PV-pilot. You have the choice here between two dimensioning modes, Quick Mode and Expert Mode, or you can open a project that already exists.
Quick Mode allows you to achieve a professional dimensioning result for your PV modules and your Powador inverters. You can switch from Quick Mode to Expert Mode at any time and keep all of your settings.
Expert Mode lets you configure your dimensioning in detail. Up to four sub-systems with separate PV modules and separate PV areas can be wired together. You can adapt the dimensioning of your inverter to your requirements and calculate the exact wiring losses. 100 | 101 100 | 101
