SOFTWARE BACKUP PROCEDURES

SOFTWARE BACKUPS are done by a Technician or a suitably trained customer. The backups
are to be done twice (2) a month for PABX’s and once (1) a week for CALLCENTERS. Once
the backups are completed, the SOFTWARE BACKUP LOG form in the Site File must be
completed.

A. DATABASE BACKUP PROCEDURES FOR OPT 11


Connect PC and open selected software, if not already connected.
Check connection protocols: Baud rate = 9600 (default setting)
Bit rate = 8
Parity = none
Stop bits = 1

1. Logging In and Initial Backup

Meridian Log-In Procedures


1. Enter LOGI, then press <cr>.
The normal response is PASS?
2. Enter your access password and press <cr>.
The system will respond with:
TTY XX Logged In and the prompt ‘ >’.
3. Load overlay 43.
4. At the prompt ‘.’ Enter EDD and press <cr>.

Step 4 will perform a data-dump, which will save the existing database to the primary core.
When the data-dump is finished progress to the next step.

2. CCBR File Transfer – Backup

1. Complete section 1.
2. Log into overlay 143.
3. Type XBK and press <cr>, then press <cr>.
4. At the prompt R>, you have to start the file transfer procedure.
5. Select the ‘Receive File’ option and make sure that the protocol is set to X MODEM then
select Receive.
6. Create a new file name (Customer name and date) for the information to be received in
and select OK.

After a few seconds the process will begin and ‘packets’ will start to be sent (the whole process
can take several minutes). Once the file transfer has finished the OPT 11 will respond with OK.

This next step is to verify the file. This process should never be missed as it can result in
corrupted software!

1. Type XVR and press <cr>, then <cr> again.


2. At the prompt R> select ‘Send File’ option. Open the file you have just saved and select
send.

After a few seconds, the process will begin and ‘packets’ will start to be sent. Once the process
has finished the OPT 11 will respond with OK.

3. PCMCIA Backup

* This backup procedure, can be done only from Card 0 Port 0

1. Complete section 1.
2. Insert PCMCIA card into Slot A on the System Core card (SSC).
3. Exit overlay 43, and load overlay 143.
4. At the prompt ‘.’ Type UPGRADE and press <cr>.
The ‘Software Installation Program’ screen will come into view.
5. Select menu choice 3 (Utilities) and press <cr>.
The ‘Utilities Menu’ will come into view.
6. Select menu choice 2 (Archive Database Utilities) and press <cr>.
‘Customer database Archives’ choices will come into view.
7. Select menu choice 3 (Archive Customer Database) and press <cr>.
The system will ask you to enter the customer name.
8. Enter the customer name and press <cr>.
The system will copy the database to the PCMCIA card.
When the backup is complete, the system will respond with ‘Database archive complete’.
9. Type Q and press <cr> to quit, then at the system response ‘Are You Sure’ , type Y and
press <cr> to exit the UPGRADE menu.
10. Type ‘ * * * * ’ to exit overlay 143 and log out of the system.
11. Remove PCMCIA card from Slot A.

B. PROCEDURES FOR OPT 51c, 61c and 81c DATABASE
BACKUP

Connect PC and open selected software, if not already connected.


Check connection protocols: Baud rate = 9600, or what ever system is set to.
Bit rate = 8
Parity = none
Stop bits = 1

1. Logging In and Initial Backup

Meridian Log-In Procedures


1. Enter LOGI, then press <cr>.
The normal response is PASS?
2. Enter your access password and press <cr>.
The system will respond with:
TTY XX Logged In and the prompt ‘ >’.
3. Load overlay 43.
4. Check that a 2.88Mb disk is present in active disk drive, (CMDU).
5. Type EDD and press <cr>.

Step 5 will perform a data-dump, which will save the existing database to the active primary
core, and to the diskette on the active 2.88Mb disk drive, (CMDU).

2. Diskette Back up

1. Complete section 1.
2. Insert another 2.88Mb diskette into the same active disk drive and type the command BKO.
This will format the disk then do a backup copy to the new disk, if the disk is being used for
the first time.

If the disk previously has been used, the EDD command is sufficient to perform the back up.
When the procedure is finished, the system will respond with ‘database back up complete’.
3. Remove diskette for storage and label with customer name, time and date of back up.

C. MERIDIAN MAIL (RELEASE 11) BACKUP PROCEDURES
1. Option 11 Card Option

1. Connect tape drive to SCSI port on Meridian Mail (MM) hard drive unit and switch on the
tape drive.
2. Insert correct tape into tape drive unit, (250Mb or larger).
3. Log into M1, but do not load any programs.
4. At the prompt ‘>’ type AX.
The Meridian Mail (MM) log in screen will appear, with ‘softkeys’ at the foot of the
screen. These ‘softkeys’ represent F1 to F5 from the left to right respectively on your
terminal \ PC.
5. Press F1 softkey to log in, the MM will ask for you to enter the admin password.
6. Enter the admin password then press <cr>.
MM will then display the Main Menu choices.
7. Select menu choice 2, (General Administration).
8. Select menu choice 2, (Volume and Selective Backup).
9. Use space bar to highlight choices, use arrow keys to move up and down to other choice
and select all choices.
10. Press F2 softkey to start ‘Backup to Tape’.
This process will take approximately 30 – 90 minutes depending on mail system
volume.
Once the backup is complete, remove the tape and label with, Customer name, Time and
Date of backup.

11. Press the F1 softkey to exit the Volume and Selective Backup screen and go back to the
General Administration Screen.
12. Press the F1 softkey to exit the General Administration screen to go back to the Main
Menu screen.
13. Press the F1 softkey to Log off and go back to the MM Log in screen.
14. Press ‘CNTL ]’ (control and close square bracket keys) together to switch back to M1.

Step 14 can be performed while the ‘Backup to Tape’ option is still running to perform
other tasks on the M1. Step 4 will be used to switch back to MM at the same ‘Volume and
Selective Backup’ screen, if step 14 is selected during the process.

* Please note that if you do not switch back to the M1 until the complete procedure is
finished you will have been logged out of the M1 after 20 Minutes. This will not cause any
problems, but you will have to log back into the M1 to perform other tasks or to log back
into the MM.

2. EC (Enhanced Capacity) Modular Option

1. Insert a 250Mb or larger tape into the tape drive on the MM shelf.
2. Access the MM log in screen on the allocated administration terminal, using an AB switch
box if applicable.
3. Complete steps 5 through to 13 as described in the above section 1.

The MM backup procedures are practically the same, as the same release of software is used,
thus the screen navigation process is identical.
