Isaiah 53. 'The Unwanted Substitute. Prophecy.

v2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant and as a root out of a dry ground. He has no form nor comeliness and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. A Sensitive Substitute. Matthew 9 v35-36 says, And Jesus went about all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of he kingdom and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitude He was moved with compassion on them. John 11 v35 36; Jesus wept. Then said the Jews behold how He loved him Christ had and has a heart of compassion for all mankind. He came to this earth to reconcile sinners to God and to show them a new life to be had in and through the Son of God. v3. He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and aquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces from Him He was despised and we esteemed Him not. A Shunned Substitute. John 19 vl4-15. And it was the preparation of the Passover and about the sixth hour and Pilate said unto the Jews, Behold your King, But they cried out, away with Him, away with Him, Crucify Him. Pilate satin unto them, shall I crucify your King. The chief priests answered, we have no king but Caesar. . How strange it was that the Jews persecuted the very Person whom God sent to deliver them from the bondage of satan. V4. Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows, yet we did esteem Him , stricken ,smitten of God and afflicted . A Suffering Substitute. Mark 15 vl5-20. The soldiers stripped Jesus of His own clothes, whipped Him, clothed Him in a royal purple robe, mocked Him, spat upon Him and jammed a crown of thorns upon His head Then they nailed Him to a wooden cross and watched Him die. As we read through Isaiah 53 we see just how much pain and suffering Jesus went through to make possible a way back to God. V5. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed. A Seeking Substitute. Jesus freely went through all that pain and humiliation because God loved us and wanted to be reconciled with us. Jesus came to seek the lost sinners but at such a cost to Himself. John 10 v9. I am the door, by Me if any man enter in he shall be saved. Luke 19 V10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which is lost. Let us rejoice that He found us needy souls. v6. All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. A Sinner's Substitute. John 3 vl4-16, And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life All our sins were laid upon Jesus but we still had to call on the name of the Lord for our Salvation. v'/. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth. He is brought as a Lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her sharers is dumb so He openeth not His mouth. A-Silent and a Submissive Substitute. Who among us when unjustly accused could keep silent. Yet Jesus had to be crucified as the special sinless Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world. Even though Herd and Pilate could find no fault in Him yet the people rejected the .gift of God . only when nailed to the Cross did He speak. Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Matthew 27 vl2-14. And when He was accused of the chief priests and the elders, He answered nothing.

Then said Pilate unto Jesus, Hear thou not how many things that witness against thee ? And Jesus answered Pilate never a word, and Pilate marvelled greatly. ISAIAH 53 v 8 He was taken from prison and from judgement and who shall declare His generation for lie was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people was he stricken. A Selected Substitute. God selected Jesus to be the Spotless Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world. So did the Jewish nation when they cried away with him. Luke 23 v2O. Pilate, therefore willing to release Jesus spake again to them, but they cried saying, crucify Him, crucify Him. So in their denial of Jesus they actually selected Him as their Saviour and Redeemer. v9. And He made His grave with the wicked and with the rich in His death because He had done no violence neither was any deceit in His mouth. A Sinless substitute. Nothing but a perfect lamb would do for the sinner to bring to the priest at the altar. Hebrews 10 vl2 But this man after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. it becomes clear that as there is no sin in heaven then Jesus who is now with the Father in heaven must have been the required sinless lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world. our sinless substitute. V 10 . Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him, He hath put Him to grief when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin He shall see His seed He shall prolong His days and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. A Sent Substitute. God was pleased to send His only begotten Son to become our Redeemer.' Luke 1 v3O-31; And the angel said unto her, fear not Mary, for thou hats found favour with God. And behold thou shalt conceive in thy. womb and bring forth a son and shall call his name Jesus. A Satisfactory Substitute. God was well satisfied to place His Son on Calvary's Cross and we should rejoice that in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we have been forgiven of our sins and have been brought into the family of God. Matt.3 vl7. And lo a voice from heaven saying, this is my beloved Son in whom 1 am well pleased. vll. He shall see of the travail of His soul and be satisfied, by His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many for He sha1l bear their iniquities. A Satisfied Substitute, Jesus must have been well satisfied when after His death and resurrection He returned to His Father in heaven and watched His church growing on earth. Seeing people confess their sins seek forgiveness and ask Him to take control of their lives. Then He will have the praise honour and glory as the world will be required to worship Him. All this in prophecy hundreds of years before the crucifiction took place. Rev.5 vl2-13; Saying with a loud voice worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing and honour and glory and power be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. vl2.Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out His soul unto death. He was numbered with the transgressors and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. A Successful Substitute. Successful in the sense that having paved the way for the sinners of the world to be reconciled to God it then became our choice to either accept God's Gift of mercy and love or reject the Lord Jesus Christ. But we know that through the obedience of Jesus and His resurrection we can readily acclaim that He is truly the Son of God and our sin bearer and Lord .
