Preparing the Central Management Server

You install Insight software on the HP Systems Insight Manager Central Management Server (CMS). This server acts as the primary management console for system management and monitoring tasks. You can install a different primary management console, depending on your needs: HP Insight Control for Microsoft System Center: This configuration uses extensions you install on the Microsoft System Center consoles. You can download the extensions, installation instructions, support matrix, and other documentation at http://www.hp.com/go/ insightupdates. HP Insight Control for VMware vCenter Server: This configuration uses extensions you install on the VMware vCenter console. You can download the extensions, installation instructions, support matrix, and other documentation at http://www.hp.com/go/insightupdates.

Table 2 lists the items to consider when you are preparing the CMS for an installation. Use the blank column to record your notes.

Table 2 CMS preparation

Item Hardware Requirement The server you plan to use as the CMS satisfies the hardware requirements listed in the HP Insight Software Support Matrix. The Windows operating system version installed on the CMS is a supported version listed in the HP Insight Software Support Matrix. If it is not, see the documentation for the operating system for information about upgrading to a supported version. For Windows 2008, user account control (UAC) is disabled. Anti-virus software Disable any anti-virus software installed on the CMS. Some Insight software products might fail to install if anti-virus software is running during the installation process. If you plan to install HP Insight Control server deployment on Windows Server 2008, IIS has the following settings: On Application Pools screen: Default AppPool set to Classic On Select Services window: Security (Installed) set to Windows Authentication On Internet Options window: Security level for this zoneset to Medium-low If you plan to install HP Insight Control server deployment on Windows Server 2008R2, IIS and FTP have the following settings: IIS 6 Management Compatibility and FTP Server installed FTP Publishing added to the default web site in IIS Manager, with SSL allowed and the following Authentication and Authorization settings: Authentication set to Anonymous Authorization set to Anonymous users Permissions set to Read HP Systems Insight Manager CMS host name Systems Insight Manager does not have to be preinstalled on the CMS before you begin. The CMS host name should be less than 15 characters long. Systems Insight Manager does not accept more than 15 characters for the host name. If the host name is more than 15 characters long, only use the first 15 characters when logging into Systems Insight Manager. Any additional software installed on the CMS satisfies the software requirements listed in the HP Insight Software Support Matrix. Notes

2 Gathering data for an installation or upgrade

When you install or upgrade the Insight software, the wizard-based installation interface presents you with a series of screens which require you to supply information. The HP Insight Software Installation and Configuration Guide steps you through each screen of the installation interface, however, before you begin, HP recommends that you use the tables in this chapter to prepare for and record your responses for that information. The information you must gather depends on the Insight Software products you plan to install or upgrade. The data you will need for each Insight software feature is listed in its own table, so you can skip those tables that do not apply.

How to use the tables in this worksheet

The data gathering table for each software feature contains most of the following columns: Type of installation Identifies the type of installation that requires the information. For instance, new installations might require information that upgrades do not. The installation types are: New - installs Insight software on a CMS that did not have it before. Upgrade - upgrades an existing, older version of a software product on the CMS to the latest version. Reuse - reuses an existing installed software product. Reuse occurs when the Insight software installer detects that the installed software version matches the version intended to be installed.

Local or remote server Identifies whether the information is required for the local or remote server. Most software products are installed only locally on the CMS, and their associated table do not contain this column. Information to collect Lists the information you must collect or the question you must answer. Description Provides a description of the information, why it is required, and where it is used (if known). Possible Value Lists possible valid values to assist you with your response. Your Value Provides space for you to record your information.

3 Gathering data to finish the HP Insight software installation

This chapter contains the information required in Chapter 3: Finishing the HP Insight Software installation of the HP Insight Software Installation and Configuration Guide. For some tasks, the information required depends on what products and features you installed or are configuring. As a result, these tasks have no table for you to record information, but do provide references for you to review to determine what information you need for your configuration. Some tasks require the same information multiple times. When defining discovery tasks, for example, you create multiple discovery tasks, giving each one a unique name. The information required, however, is the same, so you will find one table specifying the information required. You might want to print the table multiple times, one for each item. You will also find, for some tasks, that you might want to enter the same type of information multiple times. When defining discovery tasks or configuring Insight Orchestration features, for example, you can enter multiple sets of credentials that the configuration wizards try in succession when accessing products. These are noted within the table.
