A Mission Work of the Church of Christ

in ASUNCION, PARAGUAY SOUTH AMERICA
We would like to introduce you to a wonderful work situated in the heart of South America where the seed is being planted and the Lord is continually providing the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. - Matthew 28:19, 20

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase - 1 Corinthians 3:6
The Lord's church was planted in Paraguay during the 1970's and 80's by missionaries from South America and by a North American missionary family. That congregation, the Centro Iglesia de Cristo, has held strong and continues today. Then in 2003, a group of FreedHardeman graduates planted another congregation in the city, the Iglesia de Cristo - Avenida Sacramento. After seven years of building up the congregation and also working with Centro, all of the original team members have since returned to the USA. There are currently four other families now serving as missionaries to continue the work begun by the original team at Sacramento Avenue. The seed is continually being planted and the congregation is growing in Paraguay. Evangelistic campaigns are held regularly by the church, the missionary team, and by visiting groups from the USA to generate new contacts on fertile soil. These include various advertising methods to offer free Bible studies, area door knocking campaigns, other media campaigns which distribute thousands of flyers in the neighborhoods, Vacation Bible School, and the offering of classes to Learn English Using the Bible (which incorporates the Searching for Truth material by WVBS), among several other methods. The members are also constantly being edified through class and home Bible studies, as well as the many various church activities. There are regular men's business meetings and ministry groups in which the entire congregation is involved. This is helping to develop leadership within the church and provide stability for the future of the Lord's kingdom in Paraguay. The church in Paraguay now owns its own property and facility for worship and study. They are currently saving money and making plans to remodel the building into more class space and an assembly hall. As you can see, the Lord is providing the increase and His kingdom is growing in Paraguay. We pray that the Lord's church in Asuncion will become self-supporting, self-governing, and self-propagating within the next few years. It is already on its way and the future looks bright. We invite YOU to take part in this exciting work!

The harvest is truly great but the laborers are few ... - Luke 10:2
Paraguay is located in the very heart of South America and is bordered by Bolivia, Argentina, and Brazil. There are more than seven million precious souls living in this country. It's capital, Asuncin, is a modern metropolitan city with almost two million inhabitants. Sadly, out of that number, there are only about 100 faithful Christians and only two congregations of the Lord's church. The people are very receptive and willing to talk about the Bible, but because of their traditional Catholic background, it requires a considerable amount of time and effort in study to help them see the truth. Through these efforts, however, the church in Asuncin continues to grow steadily and is working toward developing leaders. It is our dream to see more congregations planted in Paraguay. There are currently no congregations in either the second largest city, Ciudad del Este, or in the third, Encarnacion. There are also possibilities to plant churches in the many neighboring cities around Asuncin, including those across the borders in Argentina. The field is truly white unto harvest and the laborers are few. We need more workers in the field to plant the seed and help the many inhabitants step out of darkness and into the light. Won't you consider investigating this work and perhaps becoming personally involved either through direct assitance on the field or by financial support? We seek to "equip the saints for the work of service to the building up of the body of Christ." (Ephesians 4:12)

Our Mission Team Goals for 2011:

Evangelism: We plan to make evangelistic efforts as a team through personal Bible studies from contacts generated by public advertising, targeting specific neighborhoods, hosting special events such as Teaching English Using the Bible campaigns, and Special Interest Seminars. We also want to encourage and develop a more evangelistic spirit within the congregation utilizing Evangelism Campaigns, Friends and Family Days, VBS, Prayer Vigils, Annual Anniversary Service, and Personal Evangelism Training. Elders (Formal Leadership Training): We plan to mentor our elder candidates through personal one-on-one meetings with elders visiting from the USA and through Skype calls. We also plan to study with them on a regular basis, as well as, mentor other promising brothers for leadership positions such as deacons, or evangelists. We hope to develop deeper relationships between the missionaries and the church leaders through regular meals and social gatherings. We will also be developing a Leadership Manual in Spanish. Edifice (Building Construction): We hope to complete all legal paperwork for construction (re-modeling the facility) and secure a loan for the Sacramento congregation. The Paraguayan brothers will have the responsibility of repaying the loan over the next 10 years. We will also assist them in developing detailed plans and construction phases. We pray to begin construction on phase 1 this year.
