Itinerary Delhi Agra - Delhi

Day 1 : Delhi - Arrival at Delhi

Reach Delhi. Our Driver will give a welcome at the airport. Transfer to your Hotel. Being India's capital Delhi is major gateway to the country, contemporary Delhi is a bustling metropolis which successfully combines in its fold the ancient and the modern. Its strategic location was one of the prime reasons why successive dynasties chose it as their seat of power. The division between new and old Delhi is the distinction between the capitals of the British and the Mughals respectively. After breakfast proceed for a day sightseeing tour of Old Delhi. Start with the sightseeing of Old Delhi . The tour will begin with a visit to Raj Ghat, a simple memorial to Mahatma Gandhi; drive past the Red Fort continuing to the Jama Masjid by bicycle rickshaws, one of Asia 's largest mosques. The magnificent Red Fort, overlooking the river Jamuna was built during the years 1638 - 48 when the Moghul Empire was at its peak. The tour continues to Jama Masjid, one of Asia 's largest mosques and which is viewed from the outside. People stream in and out of the mosque continuously and the presence of a nearby bazaar means that the area is rarely quiet. Enjoy the rickshaw ride at Old Delhi.

Overnight at Delhi. Day 2 : Delhi - Agra - By road covering 201 km in 4hr.

Proceed by surface for Agra after breakfast. Reach Agra and check into Hotel. Badal Singh established the city of Taj in 1475. The coming of Babar heralded a new era, which was to see Agra at its zenith during the reign of Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jahan. It was during Akbar's period that Agra became the center of art, culture and commerce and learning. This trend reached its height when Shah Jahan became the ruler. In the Mid 16th century and earlier 17th century Agra witnessed a frenzied building activity and it was during this time when the symbol of love Taj Mahal was built. The buildings made during this era were purely in the contemporary Mughal style and of very high quality. Today whatever remains, has become a major tourist attraction which has taken Agra again to the heights of glory but this time as a major tourist destination of India.

Visit of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort .Overnight at Hotel. In the morning, you will be taken for a visit to the Taj Mahal. The structure was built in the mid17th century by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of love for his wife. Taking 22 years and 20,000 men to build, the white marble of the Taj Mahal was quarried 200 miles away and transported by a fleet of 1000 elephants. Although the exterior of the Taj appears to be perfect from almost any angle, it is the intricate marble inlay work that is truly most astounding. The Agra Fort was the stronghold of the Mughal Empire for several generations. The present structure owes its origins to Akbar, who erected the walls and gates, as well as the first buildings on the Eastern banks of Yamuna River. Shah Jahan added the impressive quarters and mosque, while Aurangazeb added the outer ramparts. Visit the Hall of Public Audience and Royal Pavilions a magnificent Citadel with marble palaces, ornate alcoves and terraced pavilions. Agra is important for its strategic location on the Yamuna River.

Day 03 Full Day Tour of F/sikri Fatehpur Sikri is 37 km west of Agra. Jajal-ud-din-Muhammad Akbar, Humanyun's son, accessed the throne at the tender age of 14. While hunting around Sikri his curiosity was aroused by the songs of some minstrels about the celebrated Khwaja Mu'inu'd-din Chisti, the founder of the Chisti order of SUFIS. Akbar, who was without a male heir heard about Saint Salim Chisti and visited him in the year 1568. The saint blessed him with 3 sons and in gratitude Akbar ordered the great mosque of Fatehpur Sikri built under his supervision. As a mark of respect to the saint, Akbar shifted his capital to Fatehpur Sikri and built various secular buildings like the Diwan -I-Am, DiwanI-Khas, Jodhabai palace, Birbal's house, Marian's house and the Panchmahal. Day 04 Drive to Delhi Airport Enroute Visiting Sikandra. After breakfast visit of Sikandra Sikandra, 10 kms north west of Agra, is the final resting place of Emperor Akbar. The Tomb of Akbar shows an interesting fusion of Hindu and Mughal architecture reflecting the spirit of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Akbar began the construction of his own garden mausoleum during his lifetime, a red sandstone structure in a char-bagh meaning 4-square formal garden. Then drive to Delhi.
