A book of this kind can become a compulsory reading in all Business Schools. It will have a good market. .. ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES AS ANNOUNCED IN THE CLASS 1. All Assignments are focused on Regulatory Compliance. 2. Meaning of Regulatory Compliance: What are the Employers Responsibilities under the law which the topic covers. The assignment should answer this main question. Employers duties should be listed as bullet points, referring to the (i) Law-the section of the Act, (ii) the Rules-Rule No. and (iii) the Form of the relevant Report, Return, Register or Document . As HR/IR manager, you will represent the Employer. Regulatory compliance is, therefore, going to be one of your responsibilities, whose default is punishable. The objectives is to give you the necessary skills and prepare you for that role and to safeguard you from incurring legal liabilities.

3. All relevant Reports, Returns, Registers and Documents prescribed under the Act should be attached with Assignment Document which should normally not be more than 20 pages. These Reports, Returns, Registers and Documents prescribed under the Act can either be photocopied from PL Maliks Industrial Law, which is available in the Library ( Except Factories Act, which can be searched on the Internet for UP Factories Rules or any other State Factories Rules, or can be looked for in a book shop). Most of the prescribed forms under Labour Laws are available on the internet also. So you can download from the internet instead of photocopying. 4. More than one group should not normally take up assignment on the same topic unless it has my approval keeping in view the circumstances of that case. 5. For a ten minute presentation, you should prepare 10 to 20 slides focused on answering the main question: What are the Employers Responsibilities under the law which the topic covers?

Your assignment on Regulatory Compliance of Factories Act should answer the following questions: 1. What records reports and returns Managers/ Occupiers ( in the context of Factories Act) have to maintain and submit. Give a list. (As regards Factories Act, you have to see Factories Rules, say UP Rules. As there are no Central Rules, PL Maliks Industrial Law, which is available in ABS Library, does not have any rules. Presentation and Evaluation


A ten minute presentation will be made by the students in the class to be held during the week 26.09.2011 to 30.09.2011. Evaluation will be done during this presentation and individual viva which will follow the presentation. LAST DATE FOR SUBMISSION & PRESENTATION FOR EVALUATION: 1. For assignments listed at Sr Nos 1 to 7: October 6, 2011 2. For assignments listed at Sr Nos 8 to 14: October 13, 2011 Note: Assignments not submitted, presented and evaluated on or before these deadlines will not qualify for evaluation.

ASSIGNMENT EVALUATION CRITERION 1.Presentation to be made by all members of the group. (They will take their turn. The coordinator of the group will assign his turn to each member): 3 marks 2. Assignment Document : 2 marks 3. Individual Viva: 5 marks The assignment will deserve marks if it is focused on the main questions the assignment must answer. These questions, to repeat, should include : 1. The first slide should answer the question What are the Employers Responsibilities under the law which the topic covers. In bullet points. 2. What records, registers the employer is required to maintain? 3. What reports and returns the employer is required to submit? 4. What steps should be taken to ensure regulatory compliance and avoid penalties and punishments 5. What precautions should be taken to to avoid expenses and costs which can be saved in accordance with the law? 6. What measures should be taken to avoid possible negative effects of legal restrictions on productivity?

Date of submission for assignments on the remaining topics will be October 6,2011. It is clarified that with effect from the first week of October, each class will have at least 4 presentations and their evaluation. Coordinators will decide the order of presentations.
