S.J. Smith

Engineered Bulk Gas Solutions

In large industrial air separation plants atmospheric air is ltered, compressed, and cooled. The contaminants (primarily moisture, carbon dioxide and heavy hydrocarbons) are removed and are either frozen out in a reversing heat exchanger or absorbed by a . molecular sieve. The air is then separated in a four column system. The columns are trayed distillation columns with vapor rising through holes in the trays as liquid travels across them, and then down to the next tray. As the vapor rises, it contains a higher percentage nitrogen, which is the lower boiling point constituent. As the liquid descends the column, it becomes richer in the higher boiling point constituents of air, oxygen and argon. The rst column produces nearly pure (99.9999%) nitrogen vapor, and oxygen rich (40%) liquid. The second column produces nearly pure oxygen liquid at the bottom, and nearly pure nitrogen vapor at the top. A side stream which is rich in argon is removed from the second column. The sidestream is removed at a point where the vapor rising through the trays is about seven to fteen percent argon, with the balance being oxygen. This stream is then distilled in a third column which produces a product stream which is about 98% argon and 2% oxygen. The remaining oxygen is removed in a catalytic oxidizer; then any trace amounts of nitrogen are removed in a fourth distillation column. In plants which are designed to produce large amounts of cryogenic liquids, a freestanding nitrogen liqueer is usually used to liquefy the nitrogen vapor produced off of the distillation columns. This liqueer consists of a large compressor and a pair of matched expansion turbines which drive booster compressors. Nitrogen is circulated and compressed by the compressor, and then by the booster compressors. The heat of compression is removed in heat exchangers by cooling water. The high pressure nitrogen is then expanded through the turbines which remove energy from the high pressure stream by driving the booster compressors. This lowers the nitrogen to its liquefaction temperature.

VMI - Vendor Managed Inventory

The use of Vendor Managed Inventory has gained acceptance in many industries. What was once thought of as an experiment, has now become the preferred way of doing business for thousands of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, OEMs, and product users.

Dual Benets
Data entry errors are reduced due to computer to computer communications. Speed of the processing is also improved. Both parties are interested in giving better service to the end customer. Having the correct item in stock when the end customer needs it, benefits all parties involved. A true partnership is formed with S.J. Smith. They work closer together and strengthen their ties. Stabilize the timing of Purchase Orders - PO's are now generated on a predefined basis.

VMI Benets for S.J. Smith

The goal is to have an improvement in Fill Rates from the manufacturer and to the end customer. Also, a decrease in stock-outs and a decrease in inventory levels. Planning and ordering cost will decrease due to the responsibility being shifted to the Manufacturer. The overall service level is improved by having the right product at the right time. The manufacturer is more focused than ever on providing great service.

VMI Benets for Our Customers

Visibility of the Distributors Point of Sale data makes forecasting easier. Promotions can be more easily incorporated into the inventory plan. A reduction in Distributor ordering errors (which in the past would probably lead to a return) Visibility of Stock Levels helps to identify priorities (replenishing for stock or a stock-out?). Before VMI, a manufacturer has no visibility of the quantity and the products that are ordered. With VMI, the manufacturer can see the potential need for an item before the item is ordered.

Improve Productivity 8 Ways

Automate tools and supplies dispensing, inventory management, job costing, and purchasing

Average roundtrip time to a tool crib in the U.S. is 15 minutes. After installation of an automated dispensing system, the average is reduced to less than 4 minutes.
1. 2. Eliminate downtime. keep employees and the plant/line working - because you'll never be out-ofstock. Reduce tool crib trip time. Decentralize tool cribs to have tools and supplies available at the point of use, and keep your employees working, not making a "coffee break" out of the transaction. Putting frequently consumed items closer to work centers eliminates the need for plant employees to travel to and from remote tool cribs to stock up on supplies. Keep management and supervisors focused on their main job Free up managers and supervisors for higher-level work - rather than wasting time controlling and locating tools and supplies to keep production on line. Managers and supervisors no longer spend time checking inventory before or after normal working hours, or issuing tools on second and third shifts. Make tools and supplies accessible 24/7 without adding to staff. Meet the needs of your growing business without adding to tool crib staff. Make tools and supplies more readily available to support higher production volume with point-of-use dispensing. Make tools and supplies more available on all shifts without adding to staff. Reclaim floor space - and use that space as a revenue generator rather than a cost center. Remove tool cribs, while making tools and supplies more available.

6.

Make your purchasing process more efficient. AutoCrib's Demand-Based Inventory Management Software will send an electronic purchase order automatically to suppliers. You'll reduce or eliminate the need for preparing individual purchase orders. And the software will eliminate slow and dead inventory. Receive one invoice from your distributor at the end of the month Reclaim staff formerly dedicated to tool cribs, inventory management, receiving, accounts payable, and inventory control. Support internal growth without adding to head count. Reassign staff to more productive work. Have a complete record of tools, supplies, and costs used on every job at your fingertips. No more time-consuming manual methods to produce job costing reports. No more inaccurate "peanut-butter approaches" to job costing, where costs are just spread equally across jobs. Reports by job are at your fingertips, and all tools and supplies usage is tracked for you automatically.
