Introduction

The release notes contain important information that you should know before you install Exchange System Manager for Exchange Server 2003 running on the Windows Vista operating system. Prerequisites
You can install Exchange System Manager for Exchange Server 2003 on a Windows Vista-based computer using the following requirements:
Must be run on a computer in a domain that has Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 (SP2) installed. Must be installed on Windows Vista or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). The following must be installed by a user who has Administrative rights. Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Administration Tools Pack or Windows Server 2003 R2 Administration Tools Pack (x86). We recommend installing R2. Windows Server 2008 is not supported. Note If you installed the admin pack without Administrative rights, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 930056, You experience installation errors and compatibility problems when you install Windows Server 2003 management tools on a Windows Vista-based computer (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/? LinkId=3052&kbid=930056). If you installed the admin pack on 64-bit Windows Vista without Administrative rights, replace regsvr32 with %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 in the script mentioned in step 2 of the Knowledge Base article mentioned earlier. Internet Information Services (IIS) 6 compatibility module. To install these modules, do the following: a. In Control Panel, open Programs and Features b. Click Turn Windows features on or off c. Expand Internet Information Services d. Expand Web Management Tools e. Expand IIS 6 Management Compatibility f. Select IIS 6 Management Console and IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility

g. Click OK

Download the latest MAPI CDO package, Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/? LinkId=68174).

Known Issues
SMTP current session node is not supported (SMTPadmin.dll cannot be registered). NNTP property view is not supported (NNTPadmin.dll cannot be registered). Installing Exchange System Manager on the same computer as Microsoft Office Outlook is not supported, because MAPI CDO cannot be installed. You may encounter the following issues during uninstall: If Exchange System Manager is open during the uninstall process, Microsoft Management Console (MMC) is likely to crash. To resolve this, manually close the Exchange System Manager. If the MAPI CDO package was uninstalled manually before uninstalling the Exchange System Manager, a runtime error may appear. This error can be ignored and the uninstall process will complete successfully.
