SPICE CSL SPICE UP LOCAL MOBILE DEVICE MARKET India-Malaysia JV launches 3G and Android phones powered by Qualcomm

MALAYSIA - 1 July 2010 Spice CSL, the joint venture between Singapores Spice i2i and Malaysias CSL Mobile today moves forward in the mobile device market by unveiling its series of 3G and Android phones powered by Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM).

Spice CSL announced two 3G mobile devices Blueberry Knight W8000i and W600 and the Spice CSL MI300 smartphone at a ceremony today which comprised executives from Qualcomm, as well as Spice CSLs local and overseas as well as Master Key distributors and key retail partners. The launch ceremony was witnessed by Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Chief Operating Officer, Dato' Mohamed Sharil Bin Mohamed Tarmizi witnessed a signing ceremony between Spice CSL, Spice i2i and Qualcomm, marking the partnership of the launch of these mobile devices. Spice CSLs move into the 3G and Android-enabled device market signals our plans to expand our product portfolio into different market segments. We have always had much success in the entry-tier mobile device segment, recording approximately 100,000 units a month, and over 2 million units of mobile phones over the past three years. features customised for the devout Muslim like Azan alarm, (alarm for prayer times) and Kiblat (a compass that orientates towards Mecca). Spice CSL also showcased an upcoming Mobile Internet device under its Android series, MI700, which is running on Qualcomm chipset and Android OS. This is a 7 inches touch screen device that enables easy navigation in the internet with WiFi and 3.5G connection. Dato Eric Chuah hinted that this model will be available next month. Under the 3G Series, Blueberry Knight W8000i is a 3.5G QWERTY candy bar phone with dual camera, HSDPA modem, Facebook and Messenger access, Bluetooth, MP3 and MP4 Player and TFlash / MicroSD Card extension. The CSL 3.5G W600, which is also 3.5G capable, comes with 2.4 262K Colour Screen, has Analogue TV, a HSDPA modem, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, supports NES games and T-Flash / MicroSD Card Extension. The MI300 will be available for sale at RM1099 while the Blueberry Knight W8000 is priced at RM499 and W600 is priced at RM488 only. . It will be available in stores nationwide from July 2010 onwards. The event also served to cement the official relationship between Spice i2i of Singapore and CSL Malaysia. The two partners first proposed the joint venture early this year which saw the formation of Spice CSL, of which Spice i2i holds a 65% stake while Dato Eric Chuah holds the 35% balance.
