PREFACE

Modern organizations are highly complex and dynamic systems. They operate under very turbulent social economic and political environment. They are required to reconcile several incompatible goals. Conflicting roles and divergent interest they are also fraught with the use risk and uncertainties, hence tactful management of such organization to plan to execute guide, coordination and control the performance of people to achieve predetermined goals. Management has to keep the organization vibrant moving and in equilibrium. It has to achieve goal which themselves are changing it is therefore a problem highly complex and ticklish. The marketing research is the process which links to manufacture, dealers and individuals through information in important part of curriculum of Post Graduate Diploma in Management, programme is project taken by the students in any business organization, after completion of third trimester of the programme. The objective of this project is to enable the students to understand the application of the academics in the real business life. I am fully confident that this project will be extremely useful to the management.

The project of Revamping of Training and Development processes started with H C L infosystems on 20 June 2011. The project duration was 2months and project dealt with defining about training and development process in the company. The project report is about Training and Development process that is an important part of any organization. In fact Training and Development gives ground to organization to work in proper manner and functioning. It gives good production to company. It is a methodology in which the particular organization works and how employees learn new skills which fit their working in modern techniques. The project started with induction program which provide overview on various aspects of company. After that I started studying training and development process of company. I go through various documents and reports which were provided to learn about whole process and working. Based on understanding, questions were prepared to be asked from employees to analyze their view about the process. Data collection was one of the biggest challenges. In later part of project, with help of various trainers and HR managers I founded secondary data about training and development regulations and processes and finally I analyze data and various recommendations were also given.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

The term Training refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content at institutes of technology (also known as technical colleges or polytechnics). In addition to the basic training required for a trade, occupation or profession, observers of the labor-market recognize its need to continue training beyond initial qualifications: to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout working life. People within many professions and occupations may refer to this sort of training as professional development. Training is the systematic process of increasing the knowledge & skills of an employee for doing a specified job by providing a learning experience. It helps the trainee acquire new skills, technical knowledge, problem-solving ability etc. thereby increasing the performance of the employees. It also gives awareness of rules & procedures. In the field of human resource management, training and development is the field concerned with organizational activity aimed at bettering the performance of individuals and groups in organizational settings. It has been known by several names, including employee development, human resource development, and learning and development
Page 23 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

Training and development encompasses three main activities: training, education, and development.
Pulkit Gaba

Training: This activity is both focused upon, and evaluated against, the job that an individual currently holds. Education: This activity focuses upon the jobs that an individual may potentially hold in the future, and is evaluated against those jobs. Development: This activity focuses upon the activities that the organization employing the individual, or that the individual is part of, may partake in the future, and is almost impossible to evaluate

Many researchers have estimated that the average employee in the organization is working at much less than his capacity potential. If these employees can be properly motivated, they could work at 80%-90% of their capacity. Behavioral science concepts like motivation and good human relations should be used. The training could be one of the main instruments to attain such improvements. Behavioral scientists have suggested that organizational effectiveness is dependent on three objectives. To achieve its goals. To maintain itself internally. To adopt its environment.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT It is a subsystem of an organization. It ensures that randomness is reduced and learning or behavioral change takes place in structured

format.

TRADITIONAL AND MODERN APPROACH OF TRAINING AND DEVLOPMENT: Traditional Approach Most of the organizations before never used to believe in training. They were holding the traditional view that managers are born and not made. There were also some views that training is a very costly affair and not worth. Organizations used to believe more in executive pinching. But now the scenario seems to be changing. Modern Approach It is that Indian Organizations have realized the importance of corporate training. Training is now considered as more of retention tool than a cost. The training system in Indian Industry has been changed to create a smarter workforce and yield the best results. TRAINING:

Training is about knowing where you stand (no matter how good or bad the current situation looks) at present, and where you will be after some point of time. Training is about the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and abilities
Page 25 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

(KSA) through professional development. It is short term process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which managerial personnel get conceptual and theoretical knowledge. It refers not to technical knowledge skills in operation but to philosophical and theoretical educational concept. It involves broader education and its purpose is long term development. DEVELOPMENT Development is long term educational process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which managerial personnel get conceptual and theoretical knowledge. In other words it refers not to technical knowledge or skills in operation but philosophical and theoretical educational concepts. It involves broader education and its purpose is long term development.

Training Needs and benefits Training is necessary for improving the quality of work of employees. Some other reasons for which training becomes necessary are: Employment of inexperienced and new labor requires detailed instructions for effective performance. To make people work effectively with minimum of supervision, minimum of cost, waste and spoilage and to produce quality goods and services. Increasing use of fast changing techniques in production and other operations required training into newer methods for operatives.

Page 26

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

Training is necessary when a person has to move from one job to another because of transfer, promotion or demotion.
Pulkit Gaba

Training is beneficial for both employees and business in following terms.

Benefits of training to business: 1. Increased efficiency. 2. Wastage eliminated. 3. Less chances of accidents. 4. Lower need of supervision. 5. Increases quality of Production

BENEFITS to employees: 1. More loyal, increase morale and confidence. 2. More effective and efficient. 3. Produce more with minimum effort.

Some other results of good Training: Improvement in methods of work.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research is a scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. It is art of scientific investigation.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effectiveness of existing training program at HCL To identify the need of training and development at HCL. To recommended the measures to improve the effectiveness of training sand development at HCL Research refers to search for knowledge in common or a systematic effort to gain new knowledge. It is a pursuit of truth with the help of steady comparison and experiment. Research is an academic activity and as such the term should be used in a technical sense.
Page 28 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

According to Clifford Woody research comprises defining and redefining problems, formulating hypothesis or suggested solutions; collecting, organizing and evaluating data; making deductions and reaching conclusions; and at last carefully testing the conclusions to determine whether they fit the formulating hypothesis. D. Slazenger and M. Stephenson in the Encyclopedia of Social Sciences define research as the manipulation of things, concepts or symbols for the purpose of generalizing to extend, correct or verify knowledge, whether that knowledge aids in construction of theory or in the practice of an art.3 Research is, thus, an original contribution to the existing stock of knowledge making for its advancement. It is the pursuit of truth with the help of study, observation, comparison and experiment. In short, the search for knowledge through objective and systematic method of finding solution to a problem is research. The systematic approach concerning generalization and the formulation of a theory is also research. As such the term research refers to the systematic method.

Pulkit Gaba

OBJECTIVES OF RESEARCH:

The purpose of research is to discover answers to questions through the application of scientific procedures. The main aim of research is to find out the truth which is hidden and which has not been discovered as yet. Though each research study has its own specific purpose, we may think of research objectives as falling into a number of following broad groupings:
Page 29 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

1. To gain familiarity with a phenomenon or to achieve new insights into it (studies with this object in view are termed as exploratory or formulate research studies);

Pulkit Gaba

2. To portray accurately the characteristics of a particular individual, situation or a group (studies with this object in view are known as descriptive research studies);

3. To determine the frequency with which something occurs or with which it is associated with something else (studies with this object in view are known as diagnostic research studies); 4. To test a hypothesis of a causal relationship between variables (such studies are known as hypothesis-testing research studies).

OBJECTIVE OF RESEARCH IN HCL: To evaluate the effectiveness of existing training program at HCL. To identify the need of training and development at HCL. To recommend the measures to improve the effectiveness of training and development at HCL.

TYPES OF RESEARCH: The basic types of research are as follows:

Page 30 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

(i) Descriptive vs. Analytical: Descriptive research includes surveys and fact-finding enquiries of different kinds. The major purpose of descriptive research is description of the state of affairs as it exists at present. In social science and business research we quite often use the term Ex post facto research for descriptive research studies. The main characteristic of this method is that the researcher has no control over the variables; he can only report what has happened or what is happening. Most ex post facto research projects are used for descriptive studies in which the researcher seeks to measure such items as, for example, frequency of shopping, preferences of people, or similar data. Ex post facto studies also include attempts by researchers to discover causes even when they cannot control the variables. The methods of research utilized in descriptive research are survey methods of all kinds, including comparative and correlational methods. In analytical research, on the other hand, the researcher has to use facts or information already available, and analyze these to make a critical evaluation of the material.

Pulkit Gaba

(ii) Applied vs. Fundamental: Research can either be applied (or action) research or fundamental (to basic or pure) research. Applied research aims at finding a solution for an immediate problem facing a society or an industrial/business organization, whereas fundamental research is mainly concerned with generalizations and with the formulation of a theory. Gathering knowledge for knowledges sake is termed pure or basic research.

Page 31

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

(iii) Quantitative vs. Qualitative: Quantitative research is based on the measurement of quantity or amount. It is applicable to phenomena that can be expressed in terms of quantity. Qualitative research, on the other hand, is concerned with qualitative phenomenon, i.e., phenomena relating to or involving quality or kind. For instance, when we are interested in investigating the reasons for human behavior (i.e., why people think or do certain things), we quite often talk of Motivation Research, an important type of qualitative research. This type of research aims at discovering the underlying motives and desires, using in depth interviews for the purpose. Other techniques of such research are word association tests sentence completion tests, story completion tests and similar other projective techniques. Attitude or opinion research i.e., research designed to find out how people feel or what they think about a particular subject or institution is also qualitative research. (iv) Conceptual vs. Empirical: Conceptual research is that related to some abstract idea(s) or theory. It is generally used by philosophers and thinkers to develop new concepts or to reinterpret existing ones. On the other hand, empirical research relies on experience or observation alone, often without due regard for system and theory. It is data-based research, coming up with conclusions which are capable of being verified by observation or experiment. We can also call it as experimental type of research. In such a research it is necessary to get at facts firsthand, at their source, and actively to go about doing certain things to stimulate the production of desired information. In such a research, the researcher must first provide himself with a working hypothesis or guess as to the probable results. He then works to get enough facts (data) to prove or disprove his hypothesis.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (CRM) WHAT IS CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (CRM)? CRM is a term that is often referred to in marketing. However, there is no complete agreement upon a single definition. This is because CRM can be considered from a number of perspectives. In summary, the three perspectives are: 1. CRM from the Information Technology Perspective. From the technology perspective, companies often buy into software that will help to achieve their business goals. For many, CRM is far more than a new software package, the renaming of traditional customer services, or an IT-based customer management system to support sales people. However, IT is vital since it underpins CRM, and has the payoffs associated with modern technology, such as speed, ease of use, power and memory, and so on.

Pulkit Gaba

2. CRM from the Customer Life Cycle (CLC) Perspective. The Customer Life Cycle (CLC) has obvious similarities with the Product Life Cycle (PLC). However, CLC focuses upon the creation of and delivery of lifetime value to the customer i.e. looks at the products of services that customers need throughout their lives. It is marketing orientated rather than product orientated. Essentially, CLC is a summary of the key stages in a customer's relationship with an organization.

Page 51

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

3. CRM from the Business Strategy Perspective. The Business Strategy perspective has most in common with many of the lessons and topics contained on this website, and indeed within the field of marketing itself. The diagram below shows the Marketing Teacher Model of CRM and Business Strategy. Our model contains three key phases customer acquisition, customer retention and customer extension, and three contextual factors - marketing orientation, value creation and innovative IT.

A commonly cited definition of CRM is that of CRM (UK) Ltd (2002), as follows: Customer Relationship Management is the establishment, development, maintenance and optimization of long-term mutually valuable relationships between consumers and organizations. The relationship delivers value to customers, and profits to companies. The relationship is supported (but not driven) by cutting edge IT. The business strategy is based upon the recruitment, retention and extension of products, services, solutions or experiences to customers. This is the core of CRM.

FINDINGS & LIMITATIONS

Pulkit Gaba

Every project has some limitations even the researcher came across some limitations while working on the project which made the analysis a little inappropriate at times. Some of the basic limitations faced during the research are listed below:

Only limited number of authorized, companies and other areas where it has been found 55 players was covered in the study. Most of the research was based on cold calls, so then visited many places i.e. authorized and local areas and where it had not responded much.

There was a bias on the part of the respondents.

Companies that were contacted through telephone at times did not give correct information to the researcher. The IT manager or the person heading the IT Department did not have the rights to give the authorized official information to people other then the members of the official itself and the high officials. At times there was a problem of non response from the hospitals, companies and other authorized and unauthorized areas which affected the result of the project being done by the researcher.

SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

HCL is having large number of channel partners but it is not supporting & taking care all of them equally which results in increasing discontentment among new channel partners because its not possible for company to support all of them equally. Company should take some positive action against it.

Pulkit Gaba

Company executive should visit dealers on regular basis.

They should pay proper attention towards checking of various components of PC before end user delivery. Otherwise it tends towards defame of brand name in comparison to rivals. Need to expend customer care center as the consumer base of HCL Infosystem is increasing with tremendously fast pace. Proper attention should be paid for advertisement planning otherwise it may lead to problem for dealer as well as for company. Company should tie up with some event management company to organize various promotional activities like canopy, Carnival. Company should make policy for fixed end user price for all dealers so that fair game will be played & dealer would not to compromise on their margins.

CONCLUSION
Pulkit Gaba

Marketing is a very crucial activity in every business organization. Every product produced within an industry has to be marketed other wise it will remain as unsold stock, which will be of no value. I have realized this fact after completion of my summer training project.
