Manikandan, Assistant Professor (Sr. Grade) ABSTRACT The main objective of our project, drafted in this paper, is to implement an updated system for irrigation and crop monitoring using the most advanced ZIGBEE and GSM(mobile) technologies. Many rural areas are plagued by frequent power cuts and abnormal voltage conditions, this system ensures that water is distributed to field whenever normal conditions exist based on the task specified. The prototype is also useful in the areas where GSM technology is not available especially in rural areas where it uses ZIGBEE technology instead of mobile communication for the control of irrigation and the task is specified through keyboard/SMS. The wireless sensor network(WSN) eliminates the need to hard wire sensor stations across the field and reduces installation and maintenance costs. The WSN uses a zigbee network, a mobile wireless network and also various sensors. The ideal zigbee and WSN consumes very little power, capable of fast data acquisition, reliable over long term. It is expected that, this system will relieve the hardships of the farmers relating water distribution to great extent . REFERENCES [1] Khalid EL-Darymli, Faisal Khan, Mohamed H. Ahmed.
