Garda is the local term used in Afghanistan for the powder obtained by threshing and sieving the harvested and dried cannabis plants. This process is repeated several times and results in different quality of garda (first, second, ) with varying proportions of resin and other plant matter. Garda is further processed into hashish. Estimates are based on a population of 24.0 million a for 2009 and a population of 24.5 million for 2010 and an average household size of 6.2 persons.
