minimise both the project's and CDM's risk and to ensure that these aspects are
adequately documented, agreed and signed
• Establishment, planning and forecasting of the financial records and aspects of the
project
Responsibilities:
• Investigate and research obsolete equipment used in existing Communications and
Command Support products (DSLFI, SSFI) and prepare reports on alternative, cost-
effective solutions
• Participate in the identification of suitable (for ADF) communications products and
evaluate selected technology in laboratory environment. Prepare reports for
evaluation by design authority.
• Provide backup support to Networks systems engineers in operational projects like
JP2008, LOBS, Parakeet and DAHA.
• Assist with the establishment of Communications Laboratories, including
preparation of configuration schematics, design of laboratory rack configurations,
setup and commissioning of core laboratory equipment.
I provide training services to individuals and businesses. I also teach (volunteer and paid) the
“Bridging the Digital Divide” course for seniors.
Responsibilities:
• Conducted a stress management workshop on 27th May 2006. Please see the website
www.esnips.com/web/stressmanagement.
As a network specialist I was responsible for the deployment of new access network
technologies – ISDN (basic rate and primary rate services), ADSL, VoDSL, VoIP and SHDSL
and was involved in the entire technology implementation life-cycle. I was the project lead for
the AN based projects. In conjunction with other National Telephony team members, I was
responsible for deployment of new features and enhancements for existing services – fax duet,
virtual numbers, line reversal etc.
Responsibilities:
• Project Lead - Initially the TransACT access network was capable of only
providing POTS services. The need for providing ISDN, ADSL, VoDSL, VoIP and
SHDSL services for TransACT customers over the existing infrastructure was
identified. My role was to actively research the feasibility of technically delivering
the solution in the most efficient, cost effective and scalable manner and to provide
the technical expertise to the implementation team.
• Current System Analysis - I identified the limitations of the current system and
documented its functionalities/limitations in an easy to understand format
• Requirements Gathering - I then liaised with marketing/sales staff members to
understand the target market/areas/needs
• Research - As part of the research process, I liaised with various vendors and
facilitated brainstorming sessions to identify/analyse various options that were
available.
• Analysis of Requirements - I then translated the business requirements into
technical specifications that addressed the business needs and in a format that could
be released to equipment vendors.
• Testing - I was primarily responsible for involved in extensive testing of the chosen
delivery method in the testing labs and also carried out field trials by selecting a few
friendly customers and deploying the solution in order to analyse and gain field
performance reviews.
• Documentation - I then documented the processes and procedures for the new
product as well as documented sales and provisioning guidelines.
• Implementation - After successful trials, I liaised with NOC staff to come up with
a strategy to implement the solution network wide and liaised with logistics to
ensure the delivery of equipment was in-line with the implementation timetable.
Responsibilities:
• I project managed the entire deployment from start to end.
• I managed a team of 6 men – 2 NOC staff, 3 field technicians and 1 contact centre
staff member.
• I represented my manager at any management meetings to report on the progress of
the project. In addition, I chaired all the project meetings with internal and external
stakeholders.
• I received a note of thanks from the COO (Chief Operating Officer) of TransACT at
that time for successfully managing the high risk project and delivering the
outcomes on time, although the project was delayed initially due to lack of finance.
Software upgrades on the access network equipment were carried out on an as need basis to
extend the feature set and/or fix bugs with previous releases. I was the project manager for
any software upgrades on AN infrastructure especially voice infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
• I analysed the enhancements/bug fixes in the new software by reading the release
notes and also had workshops with the vendor for any clarifications and advice.
• I then also actively monitored and managed any teething problems arising from the
software upgrade.
I was the SME (Subject Matter Expert) on the access network. TransACT had many internal
IT systems which were used for provisioning new services on the network, recording network
data (cable & equipment related data) and processing/recording equipment faults. I was the
in-house telecommunications business analyst.
Responsibilities:
• I prepared extensive functional specifications that outlined the basic functionality of
the user interfaces, action flowcharts and also highlighted the rules to be used and
parameters to be verified before certain transactions were carried out. I regularly
attended meetings with the system programmers to nut out the details of the
interfaces and to explain to them the technical side of the network equipment.
• I wrote the testing schema and functional specs for the following systems:
• GIS (Geographical Information Systems) – cable management systems used
to store cable data with geographical references.
• NPS (Network Provisioning Systems) – network equipment provisioning
interface system for providing web interfaces (through CORBA interfaces)
for provisioners and Tier 2 members
• NIMS (Network Information Management Systems) – systems to be used
for maintaining crucial network data, like, cross-connect data, PVC
schemas, commissioning settings etc
• FTS (Fault Tracking Systems) – systems used for tracking service
incidents/faults raised with external vendors
This project was an ongoing project carried out on an as need basis. The main aspects of the
project included commissioning of new equipment to increase the network footprint,
augmenting existing network capacity and ongoing maintenance of existing equipment.
Responsibilities:
• I carried out routine maintenance tasks for the existing network equipment. I liaised
regularly with our vendors to be up-to-date on any new software/hardware/firmware
releases and bug fixes/patches. I also regularly undertook field trips to check on the
field equipment and stay in touch with our field technicians.
• I regularly carried out network capacity reporting tasks. I used to provide network
statistics that were included in executive reports.
I actively played the role of risk manager (network side) for the TransACT access network.
Responsibilities:
• In conjunction with our general risk manager, I documented guidelines for risk
management and disaster recovery.
• I also established processes for regular network backups and conducted mock
sessions to test the validity and ease of use of the back-up/recovery procedures.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for all technical aspects related to service activation and service assurance.
• Liaised closely with other personnel to ensure customer service guarantees are met.
• Assisted in the development and implementation of provisioning procedures and processes
• Responsible for identifying, analysis, isolation, troubleshooting and reporting of Tier 1
faults
Responsibilities:
• Developed an intranet site housing a trouble-shooting application
• Detailed study of the workings of a corporate intranet network
• Implementing IIS 4.0 over Windows NT
• Coding a couple of modules & testing the troubleshooting application
