0 Introduction

I have an assignment conducting a review of action research about the topic of an Improvement of Student Communication Skill, Year 2K at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) St. Joseph by Mohd.Nizam Mohamed Yunos and Norhayati Eng Abdullah. From my understanding, the definition of the communication skill itself has sender and receiver message, exchanging information and ideas. In this case, if the Chinese students cannot understand the Malay language that was taught by the teachers it just a one way of communication. Communication must happen in two ways between students and teachers essential in a classroom where teaching and learning are taken place. The process of communication is continues and no ending in classroom. An action research is on concrete and practical issues of immediate concern to particular social groups or communities (Burns, 2.4). The journal involve the teachers who are concerning about the students and the students itself are a social groups. Teachers aware about the language medium are important in communication link in class and outside the class where social communities happen. The teachers are also concern about the Malay language as the second language at this school because their main language is Chinese. The student is not easy to capture the language by the learning process. They are more tending to use their mother tongue rather than Malay language in class. From the earlier observation, the 37 students year two are hard to communicate with their teachers in Malay language. So, the teachers come out with an activity that helps the student built up their communication skill at that time.

2.0 Reflection stage

This article discusses about two teachers who are facing a problem in teaching Malay language among the Chinese student. An action research is a tool that can be used to systematically study a problem area and help to understand what is happening and the possible causes of problem (Johnson, 65). The teachers expect that all student

in their class are understand what have taught and able to speak in Malay but, their perspective were wrong because students are still blur. They find out that teaching and learning are happen only one way communication not two way communication. They realized the problem present from the orientation stage is not implemented well and smoothly. The students also have problem to communicate with their teachers where no respond while discussion session. Mostly of them, try the question given by teacher in the class, but they tend to make mistake by using the wrong sentences. Besides, they become noisy when they interact each other. The teachers feel frustrated because of not concern an activity with effectiveness. The teaching and learning process became so bored when the topic was repeated. The teachers also found out that the teachers themselves are influent the communication skill. The students need to have three skills in verbal, reading and writing. The teachers realize that, they have to overcome the problem from the initial stage. If not, they will face a big problem. Even the simple story about The Rabbit and The Tortoise and The Dog with its Shadow, they cannot retell again in Malay but can in Chinese word.

3.0 Planning stage

An action research is a natural way of acting and researching at the same time. The teachers plan to use communication skill as the main topic that needs to recover. The original general idea may need to be constantly revised during the process of action research (Elliot, 73). In general, students in that class have a different level of ability to communicate. The objectives of the research are to improve communication skill, build a self confidence and get better achievement from variety of teaching method. The methodologies used in this article are three processes including verbal and reading test, interview and observation. In this test, each student will mark by their performance according to five group determination either the student is excellent or

opposite. In observation, researcher want to investigate about performance of teachers and the problems that has been created. First, in verbal communication, the teachers use the items measure in pronunciation, fluency & grammar of Malay language. Second, the evaluation for the interview are divided into three problem which is not understand the question and instruction, answers not suit to question and cannot answer at all. Third, in observation of the teachers handling class measure in five categories which is; repeat the instruction, reading and sentence, emphasize the purpose of communication in learning, slow mention about the word in syllable, Correct the wrong communication in writing and give a respond about communication when needed. In this test, the teachers were observed by the researcher (the two teachers conduct action research) in class during the teaching and learning process. The result state that weakness of teaching method among them need to change and teachers should diversify verbal activity to attract student participate in the class.

4.0 Personnel view on Journal

As a reviewer, I would like to suggest that to the author according to their action research are to take another interest model that can give their student frequently use to Malay language as example using a record tape radio during the learning process. I noticed that the teachers have to get students voice or ideas in order to know which method they like to use and repeat again. Placing a camera in classroom as a recorder is more effectiveness and comfortable rather than one of the researcher sitting in class to observe. From my pass experience, sometimes teachers and students are not feel comfortable while the investigating process so the camera will retrieve the situation in class. Even though, the researchers only focus on verbal communication skill at this stage which is not enough motivate them. The teachers also can use a psychological practice in class to encourage the students involve. In communication such as acceptance of feeling, praise and encouragement and accepting ideas are the most

effective way to build their level of confident. I also have a similar view with the author (teacher) in term of method that has done proven the result. Moreover, I would to make some suggestions regarding this report. From the method of the activities, the students will more confidence and the teachers know what the best techniques to improve Malay language. I also realize that the method that has been used in the class must to be more specific in order to make students concentrate in class. Besides, I noticed that this journal do not use any action research books as references. As a result the process is not reflecting effectively.

5.0 Conclusion I conclude of the report suggest that, the improvement of communication skill help enhancement in Malay language subject. Overall, the teachers do great job in conducted the action research and help the student more actively in class and got a good result. In this case, a more techniques in teaching style have to implement in order to make communication successful in the future.
