WHAT TO BRING

The beauty of the Cub-Family Campout at Wickham Park is that it combines an outdoor
camping experience with all the convenience of being “near it all.” That being the case,
please remember that, should you forget something important, there are many shops
within a few minutes of Wickham Park.

Important things to remember are:

 Tents and all appropriate camping gear. Remember these particularly:

flashlights, insect repellent and folding chairs
 Food. Units may wish to make arrangements to cook as a group or require
participants to cook for themselves. Remember to bring coolers
 Field uniforms (Class A)(for flag ceremonies and Sunday service), Activity
(Class B) uniforms (for all other activities)
 Pirate costumes (not required, but strongly suggested)
 Bathing suits and towels
 Your son’s Cub Scout handbook (you may be able to check off some
requirements for advancement)
 Raingear (remember—In the event of rain, we will go with Plan B. Plan B is the
same as Plan A, (but with a poncho)
 Den or Pack activities (before and after meals is a great time to work on small
group projects or fun activities)
 Spending money for the Saturday lunch (if you wish) and for the Davy Jones’
Locker (for pirate plunder and costume ideas)
 A wagon or cart can be very helpful for carrying equipment from the
parking area to the campsite.

WHAT TO LEAVE AT HOME

 Electronic devices (radio, TV, Gameboy, Ipod, etc.)

IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDERS

Yes, we will all be pirates for the weekend, but we want to be nice, safe pirates. NO
SWORDFIGHTING WILL BE ALLOWED with sticks, toy swords, etc.

DO NOT THROW ANYTHING.

DO NOT DEFACE OR DAMAGE ANY TREES, BUILDINGS, ETC. Do not break

off tree limbs, even dead ones. Do not damage or disturb any plant.
4

FRIDAY NIGHT CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

Gates open at 3:00 and close at 6:00, at which time all vehicles must be out of camp.
You may want to bring a wagon or a cart to help move your equipment from the parking
area to your campsite if you are unable to check in within these times.

Please stress to your Pack families that although it is inconvenient, it is important that
vehicles not be in camp for safety reasons.

After passing through the gates, each and every camper must proceed directly to the main
pavilion in order to receive a Wrist Band and pre-purchased Friday BBQ Voucher.

SATURDAY CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

Any persons entering camp on Saturday must check in immediately at the main pavilion
in order to receive a Wrist Band. Since Saturday activities are scheduled, those
registered for Saturday only activities should arrive for morning flag (8:30 AM).

FRIDAY NIGHT DUSTIN’S BBQ

Please use the attached forms to register for Friday Night Dustin’s BBQ meals as a Pack,
or as individuals, or a combination of the two.

ADULT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The staff of the Cub-Family Campout needs your help in running a fun, safe, successful
event. Help is needed with staffing our various events, as well as with special events and
activities.

Each Cub pack is asked to provide two or more adults who are willing to assist with one
or more events during the weekend. This would be during the day on Saturday, from
9:00 am until noon and from 1:00 pm until 4:45 pm. It is important that these adults not
be needed to supervise your Cubs, as they will not be able to do both that and assist with
events. Dan Walton, the Cub-Family Campout chairman will be contacting your pack to
find out who will be willing and able to assist. Additionally, we will be asking for one
adult to cover security for one night shift.

PACK PARTICIPATION NEEDED

We are asking every Pack to prepare a quality song or skit for the campfire on Saturday
night. We would love it if you could tie it in with the Pirate theme. Also, Packs will be
competing with each other in camp inspections.

CUB SCOUT ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Cub Scouts participating in the Cub-Family Campout may qualify for different
requirements of the Sports and Academics program. In addition, Cubs may complete
requirements for their rank advancement. Unit leaders should make sure that boys and
their parents are aware of such advancement opportunities.

SUNDAY MORNING CHECK-OUT PROCEDURE

Remembering that a Cub Scout always strives to leave a campsite better than he found it,
event staffers will be inspecting your campsites on Sunday morning. We ask that all
trash be properly bagged for disposal and that your campsite will be a credit to your Pack
when the next group of campers arrives. Once your campsite has been inspected and
approved, event patches and awards will be distributed.

BATHROOM FACILITIES

The new pavilion and attached bathrooms are at our disposal. Wickham Park is in the
process of completing the new shower house and thinks that it will be complete in time
for our campout.

CAMPSITE REQUESTS
