Discourses 201 – 250

201. How to become like Jesus

Everybody wants to become Jesus or Krishna to get the divine fame in the society in a
similar way without such cruel death at the end. Such desire is hidden in the subconscious
state of all the devotees even without their knowledge. Today there is freedom of
expression of spiritual thought and there is the constitutional protection and hence a
preacher need not fear for the crucifixion. Hence, now, the above desire is very strong.
But one must remember that Jesus allowed the crucifixion from the view of a single point
that is to suffer for the sins of His people (Refer to the meaning of the word Emmanuel),
who are deserving and to save them from sins. In Bible it is clearly said that He came to
save His people and not all the people. Now, can you suffer like Jesus for the sake of sins
of your closest deserving devotees? Perhaps, now, your above desire is subsided! Powers
are always associated with responsibilities.

However, if any devotee wants the position of human incarnation in spite of the
awareness of responsibilities, there is an open chance for every human being to become
the human incarnation. First you must concentrate on the correct divine knowledge,
through which you must receive a clear-cut picture of the whole procedure. You must
know that you are not already the God since God is not the ancestral property that is
already given to you without any effort as felt by Advaitin. You must know that practical
service to God alone can give any divine fruit. The correct spiritual knowledge and the
theoretical devotion are only like water and fertilizer for the service-plant, which alone
can yield the fruit. Through such selfless sacrifice of service in terms of sacrifice of work
and fruit of work, you will be selected as a servant by God provided your service is not
aspiring any fruit including the above fruit of becoming human incarnation.

Now you have entered the inner circle of God and this is the first step called as Dvaita.
People often misunderstand that Dvaita is the relationship between God and an ordinary
human being. Such relationship is only the creator-created relationship. In Dvaita,
Madhva says that the relationship between God and the soul is the relationship of Master-
servant. Madhva Himself kept in the position of the servant of God. Every human being
cannot claim such position of Madhva, without reaching that state by spiritual effort as
explained above ( Correct Spiritual Knowledge – Theoretical Devotion – Service). If you
see Hanuman, He straightly jumped from the knowledge to the service and never
expressed His love on God through songs and tears as per Valmiki Ramayana. Some
plants yield fruits just with supply of water without fertilizer. Therefore, sometimes
knowledge and service are sufficient without the intermediate theoretical devotion. But
here the soil acts as a hidden fertilizer. Similarly, the theoretical devotion of Hanuman
was kept hidden in the mind only. Hence this intermediate state exists in a hidden way in
such cases.

Now one of the closest servants, excels other servants in service and becomes the Son of
God and sits on the right side of God as told by Jesus. Ramanuja also says that one of the
most fortunate devotees sits on the lap of Lord Narayana and talks with Him and this is
exactly coinciding with the above point of Bible. This is the second state of
Vishishtaadvaita. Now such Son of God comes down to the earth with a gross body (as
usual like any other human being) and God enters him and pervades all over the soul and
body. Now, this Son of God is the human incarnation and is treated as God by the
devotees for hearing the knowledge and serving the God. This Son of God gets the credit
of all the wonderful works done by God, who is hidden in him. This is the third final state
of Advaita. God entered the devotee, stays for his lifetime and exits at the end. The entry
of God is mentioned in the Veda (Tadevanupravishat…). The exit of God is mentioned in
the Bible, when Jesus cried stating ‘Oh! God! Why did You leave me?’

Jesus told these three statements to different devotees in different times, but one should
understand that Jesus remained in all the three states simultaneously because these states
are only the simultaneous angles. In the third (Advaita) state, the other two lower states
co-exist. This means that the lower state is always in the higher state but not reverse. In
the human incarnation, which is the state of Advaita, Vishishtaadvaita also exists because
the Son of God treated as God is the Son of God by himself simultaneously even in that
state of Advaita. The live wire is a wire always. Similarly in the state of Vishishtaadvaita,
Dvaita exists because the Son of God was selected from the closest servants and
therefore, the Son of God is also a servant by himself even in the state of
Vishishtaadvaita. Hence, the human incarnation can mention itself to be in the two lower
states also simultaneously, which is also the truth. The human incarnation always says the
truth only.

The reverse of these three states is not true. Every servant is not the Son of God and
hence, Vishishtaadvaita cannot exist in Dvaita. The Son of God is God only in the time of
human incarnation and he is not God always. Therefore, Advaita cannot exist in
Vishishtaadvaita. Adishesha was one of the closest servants of God. When he was born as
Lakshmana, he became the Son of God by his exceptional service. Then in the next birth,
Lakshmana became the human incarnation called as Balarama, who is placed in the ten
incarnations of God. In this incarnation, God pervaded all over Balarama. Even the God
Krishna served this incarnation as younger brother to prove that He will become the
servant of His servants. Even Jesus served His devotees by washing and kissing their feet.

202. The Spiritual Knowledge and Logic

The spiritual knowledge or philosophy (Vedanta) is generally based on logic (Tarka). God
is certainly above the logic and thus logic cannot touch Him (Naisha Tarkena -Veda).
Nobody can show God by the indicating finger. Veda clearly states that God is beyond
words, mind, intelligence and logic and the best way of explanation is silence about God.
If that is so, there is no necessity of spiritual knowledge, because God cannot be known
or imagined. Then what is the use of all these scriptures? Why are there so many
discussions and debates?
Lord Yama says in Veda that angels and sages are still discussing about God and have
concluded that God is unknowable. Here unknowable means unimaginable even to the
logic. They have not conducted such long discussions to know simply that God is
unknowable because it is not the object as my friend says! If God is said to be
unimaginable, what is the subject of discussions? The answer is that the logic used in
long discussions is not about God but about the Non-God entities (items of creation).
Certainly, we cannot know God by logic or by any other means, but we can use the logic
to reject a Non-God item projected as God. When you say that awareness is God, we will
use the logic and see whether awareness is an item of creation.

If it is an item of creation, certainly it can be analyzed by logic. If logic fails to analyze it,
certainly we will accept it as God. Similarly we shall apply the logic to several entities
rejected as God and see whether any item is beyond logic.

The logic is the analytical faculty supported by practical examples, which stands as
experimental verification. The ancient Indian logic was developed based on practical
examples like mud pot etc. The advancement in logic took place from time to time and
the logic was more and more sharpened. The authoritative parameters (Pramanas) have
improved in number and therefore the schools of Nyaya, Vaiseshika and Vedanta differed
in the subject of logic. The number of Pramanas increased from 2 to 4 and finally became
6 in Vedanta. This shows the improvement of logic in course of time. Today science is the
most advanced logic since the experimental verification was improved. Therefore if I am
explaining the philosophy based on science, it means that the philosophy is more and
more clear due to the advanced logic. I told you already that the logic (science) is only
useful to refuse any item of creation as not God.

The creator cannot be any item of the creation. If creator becomes creation, there must be
some other creator for this creator to become the creation. Ad-infinitum (Anavastha)
results. Science disproved some conclusions of the earlier logic and this should not be
misunderstood as refusing God. God is in no way touched because the earlier logic also
was dealing with only the analysis of created items. Tarka means the analysis of the items
of creation, which are indicated and understood by their corresponding names or words
(Tarkyante Padarthah Asminniti….). God is beyond all the words and cannot be the
understood meaning of any word and therefore, logic cannot touch God.

203. Sacrifice to Lord in Human form

One cannot argue that it is impossible to please God in human form by such total
sacrifice of work and fruit of work. This argument is not correct because such total
sacrifice is possible in the case of the children. It is not possible only in the case of God.
If it is really impossible by itself, it should have been impossible in the case of the
children also. People want the highest fruit through the easiest path. Hence, they have
changed the very goal itself.
Suppose it is very difficult for you to travel to Delhi . But you want to go to Delhi . Then,
you name a nearest village as Delhi and reach that Delhi . Now you are satisfied that you
are in Delhi . You will say that there is no Delhi other than that village. Generations have
passed and after a long time, that petty village stands as Delhi . People do not know even
the existence of the real Delhi . But the truth is that that petty village can never be Delhi
and any numbers of people of any number of generations staying in that petty village are
not the citizens of Delhi . This is the power of truth and the incapability of the tradition.

People want the grace of God by theoretical devotion like prostitutes or want the grace of
God by ordained some work or wealth like business people. The difficulties in self less
service and in doing sacrifice of work and wealth without aspiring any fruit in return to
the contemporary human incarnation lead the people to investigate a new comfortable
God with a comfortable path. This new God is formless or a statue and the path is
theoretical meditation or theoretical devotion with sacrifice of little work in leisure time
or with sacrifice of little wealth to escape the tax problems.

The new path is tied with their own new conditions, which are possible to do with some
difficulty so that they can also claim the path to be difficult. For example, cold-water bath
in the early morning in the winter season is one such new condition, which is not possible
to all the people. Some people could do this and satisfied the concept of the path to God
being with difficulties. The actual path is with thorns and no body can go in it to God
except in the case of their own children.

Now a new path is made for the new goal and the path is artificially made to contain
some small pits. Now to cross these pits in the new path is the difficulty in the path to
God. Somehow, some people cross these pits and have the satisfaction of traveling
through a path of difficulties. Such selfish, clever misinterpretations of the long blind
tradition has harmed the souls in such a way so that even a soul which is capable of
traveling through the thorny path is not even aware of the real path and the identity of the
real goal. Even such a capable soul is mislead to travel through the false path of small pits
and reach the petty village called as Delhi . At least such capable soul should have at least
the knowledge of the right path and right goal. For this purpose only, the true path and
true goal are revealed today in My divine knowledge.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

204. One should not fear for the thorny path, which alone is true.

The truth will attract only very few gems. The fraud will attract many gravel stones. If I
want only the majority of gravel stones, I need not preach this divine knowledge any
more, because already sufficient fraud is established by the blind tradition. One should
not fear for the thorny path, which alone is true. One should constantly try to travel in
that true path.

If the soul is in constant trail, God will help the soul by sanctioning any number of future
human births with congenial atmosphere and one day or other the soul will certainly
reach the true goal. This is better than reaching the false goal through the false path in
this very human birth itself. But, remember, the effort should be really sincere and not a
cinema action.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

205. Only the powerful divine knowledge at the level of intelligence can smash the
mental sins.

Suppose a bad intention has come into the mind but the intention is not materialized and
no body is effected practically in the world. Certainly there will be partial punishment for
this mental sin in the hell. How to get rid of this mental sin? Only the powerful divine
knowledge at the level of intelligence can smash the mental sins.

The intelligence alone can control the mind. The intelligence is strengthened by the
divine knowledge injected by the Sadguru. The mind is strengthened by repetition of sins
and temporary experience of false happiness. When the divine knowledge is intensive,
the mind is purified and at a stage of climax, even the results of previous sinful deeds are
smashed (Jnanaagnih sarva karmani… Gita).

The divine knowledge at climax makes you surrender to God and leads you into the
involvement of practical spiritual service in the mission of God without aspiration of any
fruit in return. In such a stage, God attracts all the results of your past sins and suffers for
your sake. This technique of God is not known to you. Some how you are relieved from
all the mental sins and also from all the results of the previous sinful deeds. The mental
sins are cancelled by the divine knowledge. The results of previous sinful deeds are
cancelled by the interference of God that is resulting by climax of divine knowledge.
Therefore, when the service is inevitable, you do it with good intention also so that you
will not receive the partial punishment in the hell unnecessarily.

This does not mean that I am encouraging you to do the sin fully and get the full
punishment. You have to follow the constitution written by God strictly in this world as
far as your behavior towards other souls is concerned. Here, the justice must be followed
and the injustice must be discarded. Only in the case of God, you can overlook even the
justice for the sake of God which cannot be sin in that particular case only. For the sake
of God, you can overlook any other soul including your own self and this shall not be a
sin. Infact, it is the Best. If you do not overlook the justice for the sake of God, it shall be
a sin. But this special case (nivrutti) cannot be extended into their behavior with other
souls(pravrutti).

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

206. No good deed can cancel the bad deed.

I will give you a small example.

A daughter-in-law is serving her mother-in-law or father-in-law. The service is inevitable.
If the service is done with good intention by treating the father-in-law as father or
mother-in-law as mother, the good fruit in heaven is fully enjoyed. Suppose the daughter-
in-law serves them sincerely due to unavoidable circumstances and scolds them with
hatred in mind, what is the result? The good fruit in heaven is reduced to half and half
bad fruit appears in the hell for the bad intention.

The good fruit of good deed can never cancel the bad fruit of bad deed. Fruits of goods
deeds and bad deeds have to be enjoyed separately. If you create a provision to cancel a
bad deed by doing a good deed, every one will commit sins by emotion and then will try
to cancel the sins later on by doing good deeds. Therefore, when the Priest says that by
doing a ritual, all your sins are destroyed, it is a point of climax of ignorance. No good
deed can cancel the bad deed.

Kauravas(demons) had ninety nine per cent sins and one per cent good deeds. They went
to heaven first to enjoy the little good deeds and went to hell later on to enjoy the major
bad deeds. Pandavas(devotees) are vice-versa and hence went to hell first and then to
heaven later on. In both cases, mutual cancellation is not exhibited as we see in the
Mahabharata (Swargarohana parva). Now, I pity the daughter-in-law who has sincerely
served the in-laws but went to hell simply for the sake of bad intention. The daughter-in-
law who has not served in-laws with bad intention goes to permanent hell. The daughter-
in-law who has served her in-laws sincerely but had bad intention in her mind goes to
both hell and heaven separately. The daughter-in-law who has served her in-laws with
good intention thinking them as her own parents has gone to permanent heaven. The
daughter-in-law who has good intention in her mind to serve her in-laws will some how
serve them directly or indirectly and will not go to hell.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

207. Intention of sin and the subsequent result

Gita says that the concept of cycle of deeds is complicated (Gahana Karmano Gatih…).
The action or deed by itself is inert without the intention of mind and has no result. When
you are walking on the road, an ant may be accidentally killed under your foot. There is
no sin for this deed because the intention of mind (samkalpa) is not there. Suppose you
have intention to kill the ant and subsequently kill it. This is a deed associated with mind
and hence will have the full punishment.

Suppose you have the intention to kill the ant but some how the deed is not successful
due to miraculous escape of ant, you will have half of the punishment for the intention.
Since the effect of your intention is not received by the ant, the other half of the
punishment is cancelled. Therefore, action without intention has no fruit. Action with
intention has full fruit. The intention without action has half fruit. Why should you enjoy
the half fruit for your intention when the action is not materialized?

208. Datta Swami Answers Atheists Questions

Today atheists have met in a conference in this city and talked, as they like. I can answer
every point raised by them provided they are not rigid conservatives of atheism and have
open mind to accept the truth.

Atheist: There are 33crores of deities in India but poor people are suffering.

Swami: There are several teachers in a school who teach classes equally. Why the
students are not of equal standard? The cloud rains the same water drops. Why one drop
fallen in the pearl shell becomes pearl and another drop becomes mud fallen in mud
pond? The creator is equal to all but the creation has differences by its own nature of
merits and defects. Are there no differences in the people in foreign countries where there
is only one God? The 33crores of water drops (deities) have the same content of water
(God). Due to the association of different materials, some drops became pearls and some
became mud. The difference in the deities is due to the superimposed multi nature of
human beings. You have indirectly indicated the inevitable differences in the nature.

Atheist: Religious exploitations have led into misery of poor people. Why there should be
golden jewels on the statue in the temple when poor people are suffering?

Swami: I agree that there is some religious exploitation done by selfish priests. But these
exploitations are not of such magnitude to cause poverty of some people. The politicians
and rich people are responsible for the poverty of some people. Even the terrorists are
attacking such rich people only but not the priests. You are diverting the main issue to the
wrong direction of a minor negligible issue. Your main issue is negation of the existence
of God. It is a path in philosophy and hence Vidyaranya gave a place to atheism proposed
by Charvaka. But now you are trying to get the support of poor people by such diversion.
Now you are no more a philosopher and you are now a politician. Actually you are
harming the poor people who live peacefully with pure devotion on God. Their devotion
is excellent and God is giving them the peace and lot of happiness. The rich people are
not blessed with such peace and bliss due to their impure devotion. Money is not the
single criterion of life. The religion is doing social service along with devotion to God so
that the suffering people get the blessings from God.

Take a patient of Cancer or AIDS. Your social service cannot change his worry. Only the
concept of spiritual knowledge and devotion can console him completely. Sometimes the
grace of God may give even a permanent [medicine]. The society is peaceful to a large
extent based on the belief on God and fear for hell. Now if you remove these concepts,
the society will end in chaos. Thus you are finally turning into anti social element. If
atheism spreads, the corruption, killing each other etc. will go to the climax.

All the rich people will kill all the poor people and perhaps you want to remove the
poverty in that way! The rich people and the Politicians are controlled to a large extent
due to belief on God and hell only. You want to remove that also and support fully the
rich people! How can you tell that hell does not exist? I could not show the hell to you
but could you show the absence of hell by taking me to the end of this space? In the case
of equal probability it is better to be careful believing the hell.

You have criticized about the golden jewels on the statue in the temple. The statue is a
representative model of God to give a strong impression in the minds of ignorant people.
The concept of God has several sociological uses like giving confidence, peace,
happiness, control of sin etc. God is poor man’s heaven, which cannot be purchased by
rich people. You are criticizing the material used in the model, which is building up such
most important concept. A villager says that the material used in building up the
experimental models conveying the scientific concept is a waste, which can be used to
feed poor! Why do not you criticize the heavy jewelry of rich ladies in highly expensive
function, which have no representation of any useful good concept? Why have you
conducted your conference in highly expensive five Star Hotel?

Atheist: The spiritual knowledge is having no reason and perception. Hence we do not
believe in it.

Swami: There are several things, which are beyond reason but their existence is
experienced through inference. This is accepted even in science due to inefficiency of
measuring techniques (refer to Heisenberg’s uncertainity Principle). Work is a form of
inert energy, which is neither energy nor the machine and nor the motion. But it is
inferred by the final effect. The limit of space is beyond even imagination and reason.
The life is from food (Matter) and matter is from energy.

Energy has no cause. Do you not believe the existence of energy, which has no cause? A
boy loves a girl even though she is totally rejecting him. This is a factual case even
though the reason does not exist in it. If love is reason, the reason of such love is absent
and the question returns to the original state. Again the love is abstract, which is invisible
but inferred from the above case.

All these points are created by God to give the information about Himself that He is
unimaginable and His existence is only inferred through the experience. This does not
mean that space, love, work (awareness) are God. These indicate God by giving the
indirect information about God.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

209. Analysis of the various statement of Jesus

Jesus asked Peter about the opinion of public on Him. Peter told that some are looking
Jesus as the Messenger and some are looking Jesus as Son of God. He told that he is
looking Jesus as the God Himself. Three views about the human incarnation are always
available and these are Dvaita, Vishishtaadvaita and Advaita. According to these three
views, Jesus gave the three statements that He is the Messenger, that He is the Son of
God and that He is not different from God. This does not mean that He is changing His
state from one to the other in these three positions.

His three statements about Himself are given to the devotees of corresponding levels of
ego and jealousy. As the ego and jealousy decrease, these three states change according to
the devotee. Through out the Gita, Krishna told Arjuna that He is God and remained in
the state of Advaita only. The reason for this is that Arjuna was in the lower state of
Vishishtaadvaita thinking that Krishna is a partial incarnation of God Narayana. For him,
the higher state of Advaita is preached. This does not mean that Krishna is always in the
highest state of Advaita and Jesus is changing between these three states.

The difference in the statements of Jesus and Krishna is to be understood from the point
of the other side. The other side in the case of Jesus is various devotees at different levels
in different times. The other side in the case of Krishna is a single devotee, Arjuna, in a
particular time only. The Bible is a collection of statements of Jesus given to various
devotees in various times. The Gita is a single statement given to a particular devotee
only in a particular time or situation only. Therefore, Jesus and Krishna are not different
from each other in the state of human incarnation.

Krishna was looked by Gopikas as God and hence, there is no necessity to preach Advaita
to Gopikas, who were already in the highest state. Pandavas looked Krishna as
incarnation of Narayana or as Son of God, which is lower state than that of Gopikas.
Pandavas thought that justice is above the visible Krishna and only the absolute invisible
God Narayana is above the justice. Hence, they could not cross the justice for the sake of
Krishna. Dharma Raja refused to tell a lie even on the request from Krishna. Arjuna did
not leave Gaya in spite of repeated requests from Krishna. Dhrutarashtra looked Krishna
as a divine messenger only and did not grant even five villages to Pandavas in spite of
repeated requests from Krishna. As the king, he had the power to grant anything. In the
Gita, since there is only the reference of Arjuna, all the three views could not be given.
Therefore, Hindus should not say that Krishna alone is God always and that Jesus is a
changing God.

Apart from these three angles of devotees, there is a fourth angle of ordinary human
beings who do not recognize the human incarnation even as a messenger. The priests of
the church looked Jesus through this fourth angle in which, they thought that Jesus is a
fraud person cheating the public to get fame. Due to this fourth angle, Jesus was
crucified. Mohammad, the next Prophet kept Himself always in the position of
Messenger only to avoid this fourth angle. But some ignorant human beings fought with
Him also in the fourth angle, who did not believe Him even as the Messenger. Yohon
claimed Himself as a Prophet only but His head was also cut due to this fourth angle.

210. What is soul? If it is produced from food then, when food stops soul is
destroyed?

Soul is pure awareness, which is a special work form of energy produced by the oxidation
of food. Its generation requires the function of several biological systems also like lungs,
stomach, nervous system etc. When any one of these fail, the energy is not produced and
awareness in general disappears as in the deep sleep in which the nervous system takes
rest. But the subtle body, which is a bundle of strong feelings (Samskaras), which are the
waves of awareness, is not destroyed and it leaves the body for final enquiry. The enquiry
is conducted by God based on these Samskaras only and not mere pure awareness, which
is common in every soul. If you mean the subtle body for the soul, it is not destroyed.
Even in the subtle body, pure awareness exists like gold in the jewels.

211. Sri Datta Swami : Nostradamus’s Great Genius

By Dr. Nikhil, Dept. of Energy, University of Florida, U.S.A.

Michel Nostradamus was a brilliant French prophet and physician of the 16th century. He
made deeply insightful prophecies in the form of encrypted verses called as quatrains.
Large portions of his prophecies have come true. In his letters to his son César
Nostradamus and King Henry II of France, he clearly revealed that his prophecies were
divinely inspired. He was a great devotee and made these prophecies on the command of
God. He had a sound knowledge of astrology and planetary movements. Although the
visions were natural or instinctive to him, he integrated them with astrological
calculations and planetary events. However, he lived in the troubled times of the
Inquisition. To avoid persecution and the hatred of evil people, he codified the prophecies
into obscure verses such that their literal meaning hardly makes any sense. The language
used by Nostradamus was highly symbolic and he often additionally encrypted his
prophecies by the use of anagrams, scrambling the order of events, using different
languages, etc.

He admitted that he knew and saw much more than what he wrote. However he did not
reveal all that to the public since the majority was not prepared to understand all that he
had to say in the right spirit. Thus today we have only a small fraction of what
Nostradamus saw; the rest was censored by him due to its unsuitability for the public and
due to the inevitable negative reaction of political and religious leaders towards predicted
future changes.

The censored part was not simply details of future events as one may be tempted to think
but it also contained the philosophical content, which formed the background of the
future events. It was mainly this philosophical content that Nostradamus was afraid of
revealing in his time of the Inquisition, when anything different from what was accepted
by the Church, would be quickly branded as heresy. Thus when we read his quatrains,
especially those with some philosophical significance, we have to be sensitive not only to
what is said but also to what is left unsaid.

Numerous authors, thinkers and amateurs have delved into the details of these quatrains,
sifting for some clue to the unraveling of critical future events and personalities such as
World War III, the Antichrist, changes in world politics and global catastrophes. However
the prophecy that is most spectacular and has the potential for maximum benefit to
humanity is the prophecy of the Great Genius.

There is considerable agreement that a great scholar will emerge from the land bounded
by three seas. He will be well versed in the scriptures and science and Thursday will be
holy to him (cI-50). He will uproot fanaticism and establish his spiritual philosophy (cIII-
95). This quite obviously indicates that the said scholar will be a Hindu from India .
Contrary to some opinions, He will not be a military general. His conquests will not be
military conquests but they will be philosophical conquests—spiritual conquests. With
His compelling philosophy He will demolish all fanaticism, rigidity and misinterpreted
twists in all religions. A significantly noteworthy point is that He will not only correlate
all the world religions, but He will also correlate science and spirituality and establish a
universal spiritual philosophy (cVII-14). Although Nostradamus has accurately predicted
some of these details of the Great Genius, he has left a great deal unsaid about the
identity of this Great One.

Away from the din of contradicting opinions and speculations among commentators and
scholars, about the identity and time of arrival of the Great Genius, He has already taken
birth. True to prophecy, He was born in a small town in south India (peninsular India )
and is a great scholar of the Hindu scriptures and the scriptures of other religions. He is
also a scientist and a professor. However, he is not an ordinary scientist or scholar of the
scriptures. He is known to His closest devotees as an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya.

Lord Dattatreya (Datta) is God in the three forms, Creator, Maintainer and Destroyer of
creation. This God, who is beyond creation manifests through a human form called as a
human incarnation or Avatara. Thus God gives Himself to His devotees. Datta is this God
who is ‘given’ to His devotees in the form of an incarnation. Thursday is the day that is
particularly auspicious for the worship of Lord Datta. This Great Genius, who is an
incarnation of Lord Dattatreya, is known as His Holiness Shri Datta Swami. Shri Datta
Swami has preached Divine Knowledge that is so revolutionary and outstanding that
highly elevated spiritual souls and scholars and have declared that such knowledge has
never been revealed before to mankind. His Divine Knowledge consists of a logical and
scientific analysis of the knowledge given in the scriptures and which supports
experience. It explains the nature of the soul, the spiritual goal, which is God, and the
path to reach Him. Complete assimilation of this knowledge leads to devotion and
service, which brings the ultimate grace of God.

In the past, the coming of Christ, the Savior was similarly prophesied by prophets before
Him. Their prophecies were also in a symbolic language. But many people took the
prophecies literally. When the Christ actually came, He was neither a king nor a freedom
fighter who would free the Jews from the tyrannical Roman rule. He neither established a
kingdom of the Jews nor did He destroy the Roman Empire . He was a king in the
symbolic sense. In fact He was the King of kings. He established the kingdom of God on
earth. He freed people from the slavery of ignorance. The Christ came, accomplished His
mission on earth as per the prophecies and went back to the heavenly abode. Two
thousand years have passed since; yet some ignorant people have still not recognized
Him. They are still waiting for the Savior to come!

We are in a similar situation today. The prediction of the Great Genius is in a highly
symbolic and encrypted language. Mature and sensitive people quickly grasp the inner
meaning of prophecies and scriptures. Rigid and immature people lack insight and are
under the grip of ego and jealousy. They insist on the literal meaning, however ridiculous,
and refuse to accept the reality that is staring them in the face. The prophecy of
Nostradamus is not scripture. However prophecies similar to the prophecy of the Great
Genius occur in many scriptures. This is indeed the same as the second coming of the
Christ mentioned in the Bible and the incarnation of Kalki mentioned in the Hindu
scriptures. In these scriptures again, similar symbolic language is used. Whether it is the
prophecy of Nostradamus or the words of the scripture, ignorant people are sure to miss
the real meaning. They fail to derive any benefit out of it.

The Divine Personality of Shri Datta Swami and His Divine Knowledge require no
support from either prophets or scriptures. God is self-resplendent and requires no
flickering candles and torches to illuminate Him. But our tiny minds require the crutches
of scriptures, prophecies, logic and miracles. God in all His divine kindness has provided
all these supports for us. While preaching His Divine Knowledge, Shri Datta Swami not
only quotes from various scriptures but also correlates crucial philosophical concepts
among different scriptures (cVII-14). In the past, adequate clarity and correlation of many
such concepts was not provided. Hence there were many contradictions between different
philosophies and religions. The greatest achievement was the correlation of science with
spirituality. Many preachers and scientists have attempted this correlation in the recent
past; but none can compare with the outstanding philosophy of Shri Datta Swami. A
careful reader who reads and analyzes with patience, will soon see the wonderful
panoramic picture—a coherent universal philosophy—that emerges from the teaching of
Shri Datta Swami. It addresses all the main aspects required in a universal philosophy:

1 Unimaginable Absolute God who is beyond creation,

2 The primordial cosmic energy which is the basic fabric of the entire creation,
3 Science, which is the analysis of this energy and its different manifestations, which are
matter, energy and awareness.
4 The science of miracles: evidence of the inexplicable powers of God (cIII-2).
5 The soul, its nature, its spiritual effort and its approach to God
6 The spiritual path that includes Divine Knowledge, devotion and service to God.
7 The worldly path, which includes the interaction of an individual with society and the
laws governing it.
8 Correlation of the philosophies of different religions and science

This is the real Grand Unified Theory. The grand unified theory that the physicists hope
to achieve is far from a complete and comprehensive theory. It does not include
philosophy, God, scriptures or even the soul. It is restricted only to the material world. At
the most it can be called a partial theory. The universal philosophy given by Shri Datta
Swami will form the framework of analysis of scientists and philosophers of the future.
Within this framework, both scientists and philosophers will have adequate scope to
investigate further and ‘fill in the details’.

We are most fortunate to be living in this great age. Yes, the world is plagued by terrible
injustice, oppression, degradation of values and suffering. But behold, the Great Genius
has arrived! Christ has returned—in flesh! Bhagawan Kalki has incarnated! He has come
riding the swift white horse of modern electronic communication, which travels at
lightening speed. He holds the blazing sword of Divine Knowledge and chops off the
heads of ignorance in people’s minds. He will establish permanent world peace. He will
fulfill all the scriptures and religions of the world and end the gap between science and
spirituality.

212. Who asked you to love God?

Did God ever ask you to love Him? He has created equal facilities for all the souls
including atheists. He has created a cycle of deeds (karma chakra), which is the legal
constitution and according to it, you will receive your rightful results. He has not done
any injustice to you for not loving Him. Sometimes, I hear some people saying, “I have
no time to think of God. I do not bother about God.” Well. God is also not bothered about
you either. If you care a pin for God, He will not care even a millionth pin for you,
because in His eyes, this entire earth is not equal even to a pin-tip. It is you, who is
approaching God every time for some favor.

It is you, who is always bothering Him to break the legal way and protect you. Yes. He
does it. The kindest Lord pays [suffers] for your sins through His human form and
protects both you and justice simultaneously. For doing that, He wants your pure and real
love. You may plead that you do not have that much pure and real love. No. No. No. You
have it and you show it to your children. Give at least a drop of it, proving that you really
love God at least a bit; even though not equal to your great child. At least stop this
hypocritical love and stop asking Him for any favor. Follow the path of justice and if you
can still love Him without aspiring for any favour from Him, then that is real love or
devotion. You love your child, even if he or she beats you. Don’t say that pure love is
impossible.

It is impossible only in the case of others, including God. First start loving and serving
people who are other than your family, to get training in that path. At least do not grab the
money of other people by cheating. Business is also a licensed way of cheating others.
Even if you are not loving and serving others, at least do not grab their hard earned
money by corruption. First, stop harming others. Then, start loving others. Then, start
serving others. Now you are trained well and you are ready to love and serve God like
Shaktuprastha.

Money is the root knot. It catches your throat. Therefore the Veda says “Dhanena
tyagenaikena…” which means that sacrifice of money alone decides your love for God.
Real love can be expressed only by [the sacrifice of] money and work (karma sanyasa
and karma phala tyaga). Without these two, other ways are only hypocritical. When these
two also exist, the other ways get life. Otherwise, they are just dead items. ‘Guna’ is
theory. ‘Karma’ is practice. Theory should lead to practice. Otherwise, mere theory is
only hypocrisy. The four castes in spiritual path are decided by theory and practice only
(guna karma vibhagashah—Gita). Shaktuprastha is the real Brahmana (Brahma Jnani),
who sacrificed all the fruit of his work for God.

Dharmaraja is a kshatriya, who could only do partial sacrifice of wealth in doing the
Ashvamedha. Dhritarashtra is a Vaishya, who has good theory but is zero in practice. He
recognized Lord Krishna but did not give even five villages, even though the Lord was
asking. He had full power to give but nicely escaped by pleading his false incapability in
going against his son. Duryodhana is a Shudra, who did not even recognise the Lord and
was greedy for the wealth of even his own brothers. Thus caste is not by birth, but it is by
the qualities and practice (guna karma). Swami Dayananda, who was also a human
incarnation preached about this valuable concept. Every great preacher is an incarnation
of God because the Gita says the same (Yadyat vibhutimat…).

Buddha kept silent about God. This means that God is beyond words, mind and logic as
said in the Veda. Buddha means the Buddhi or Jnana Yoga that speaks about the absolute
God. Thus He is the greatest incarnation of God. If one thinks of Him as an atheist, there
can be no greater fool. Mohammed showed the formless medium in which God exists,
which is energy and this is presented as awareness by Shankara, because basically energy
and awareness are one and the same. A prophet itself means a human incarnation. A
prophet carries the message of God. The divine knowledge is in Him. Is He not greater
than other human beings? The message of divine knowledge is the characteristic of God
(Satyam Jnanam—Veda) and so we say God is in Him. Why do you deny it, when God is
omnipresent?

Then every human being should give the same message of God, since God is
omnipresent. But why did Mohammed alone give it? [It is] because the power of God or
knowledge of God was in Him alone. Then the power of God, in the form of knowledge
is not omnipresent. In any case, you have to accept that either God or His power was
present only in Prophet Mohammed. That is what a human incarnation is. You are
fighting with us, without analysing the concept of the human incarnation.

Thus Buddha, Mohammed and Shankara have preached the single phase [same concept],
which was essential to the level of the followers at that time. The concept of a human
incarnation was well established by Krishna and Jesus. You can find all three branches of
Hinduism (Advaita, Vishishtha Advaita, Dvaita) in Christianity because Jesus said that
He and God are one and the same (Advaita), that He is the son of God (Visishta Advaita)
and that He is the messenger of God (Dvaita). The required stage of philosophy was
expressed according to the stage of the people of that time.

Just now, Lakshman (Mumbai) told Me that Surya told him that at least once in a life
time, one should do the total sacrifice to the Lord. But Surya has already done that. One
day he removed all his earnings which were in the name of his son and deposited them in
the bank account of our Trust. His wife, who is a good devotee of Me, also quarreled with
him for that act. He did not even inform Me about his sacrifice! Only later on, it was
known from his wife. Is he not Shaktuprastha really? Unfortunately, I am not the Lord in
human form. Had I been the Lord, I would have sent him to Brahma Loka. At least, I pray
to the Lord to give him Brahma Loka, when he leaves his gross body in course of time as
per the rules of nature.

Do not bother that you are unable to practice the highest truth today itself. At least accept
the truth in theory. That first step is sufficient. One day or the other, either in this life or in
some future life (human life is a*sured for any one who tries constantly) you will
succeed. If you accept theoretically, you have put your foot on the first step of right path.
Journey and achievement of goal are inevitable. It is only a matter of time. But if you
deny the truth even theoretically, you are in the wrong path. You want immediate fruit
and so you want to lower the goal. You want to sleep at 8 PM and want to become IAS
officer. You want 40 marks as pa*sing marks! You think that you can get the 40 marks
and pa*s. But My dear friend, if you keep 40 marks as goal, you will only get five or ten
marks! Actually 100 is distinction and 40 is a pa*sing mark. But we have kept it as a
secret and are saying that 100 is the pa*sing mark, so that you will certainly achieve 40
while trying for 100.

This is called as ‘Arthavada’ (which means a statement created for a purpose) in the
Veda. It means a spiritual secret like a business secret. When you only get five marks and
feel discouraged by seeing the 100 mark goal, then in your case, to encourage you, we
shall say that 40 is the pa*sing mark. Therefore, the Acharyas know how to close and
open the secrecy of the truth according to the condition of the student. In some context,
the truth has to be opened and in some other context, the truth has to be covered. This
brought the difference in the preaching of the human incarnations, which was based on
the difference in the stages of different people, they faced in their times. If you realize
this practical problem you can easily realize that there is only one God in all the divine
human incarnations.

213. All the religions in the world are the feathers of the same bird (i.e., God with
different colors.)

There is only one God and there is only one universe. Similarly the man is also only one.
Man should aim that one God and he should belong to all the religions in the universe. He
should pick up the diamonds from all the religions and use in his spiritual path. One can
have love towards the nationality. Every nation has some physical boundaries. The people
who are living in that nation have that nationality. Thus there is a meaning in the
nationality because it has physical sense. But in the case of religion and spiritualism there
is no physical sense. Every religion belongs to every man.

Therefore in religious and spiritual matters all the religions can be used. The human
incarnation in every religion announces that He is the universal preacher. The message of
Lord Krishna i.e., Bhagavat Gita is for the entire world. The message of Jesus i.e., Bible
is for the entire world. The message of Mohammed is for the entire world. So there is no
need of conversion of religions. Just like in science the invention of Einstein is useful for
the whole world, every religious preaching is for everybody. Different scientists
belonging to different countries have discovered different scientific inventions. The
subject science contains all these inventions. If any invention is removed the science
become discontinuous. Similarly the spiritualism consists of the preaching of the
preachers belonging to various countries. The spiritualism must be built up by the
preaching of Lord Krishna, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Mahavir etc. Spiritualism means
truth like science. Different religions are following their preachers and they have taken
the essence of their scriptures into the practice. Such traditional practices are like
different experimental parts of Science. The scriptures of different religions are like the
different theories in various chapters of science. In science the student does not
distinguish the scientist based on his nationality. Similarly in spiritualism one should not
have repulsion or attraction to any scripture or tradition in the World.

The spiritualism requires divine virtues, which are emphasized in various religions. The
firm faith of Islam, the infinite love of Christianity, the tolerance towards other religions
of Hinduism, the social service of Bhuddhism and the non violence of Jainism are
important virtues of the spiritualism. These are the practical traditional aspects of various
religions, which are more precious than those scriptures. Tradition is the most important
essence of the scripture.

One must praise the firm faith of a Muslim on God associated with strict regularity and
discipline. People are worshipping God either in the leisure time or on a holiday. But a
Muslim worships God on every day whether it is a holiday or not. He worships God
regularly at some intervals of time whether it is leisure or working time. The faith on God
and the importance to God supercedes everything and every activity. This aspect is a page
in the book of spiritualism.

Another page in the book of spiritualism is a tradition of Christianity, which is the infinite
love. Bible says “revenge is mine”. The Christians love even their enemies proving that
love is infinite. Love is God. God is infinite and so Love is infinite. Such infinite love can
only attract the God. The proof of love is sacrifice in service. Christians sacrifice lot of
their money for the spiritual works. Their love is so unlimited that they sacrifice money
even to the spiritual centers of other religions. Even if some religion is opposing their
religion they fund the other religion and this shows their love even to enemies. Their love
in the family bonds is very weak. So the love is stored in their hearts without flowing.
This concentrated love in the heart flows entirely towards God and so they sacrifice lot of
their earnings for the work of God. They do not store the wealth for their children, and
they ask their children to earn and live after certain age.

Hinduism should be another page. The house of every Hindu contains photos of different
forms of God. At the same time they find only one God (Para Brahma) in all those forms
of God. They treat the different forms of God as the different dresses of the same actor.
This indicates that there is only one God for the entire world and Lord Krishna, Jesus,
Mohammed, Buddha, and Mahavir are only the different dresses of the same God. This
brings the brotherly hood of all the human beings in the entire world.

Another page must be Buddhism. Buddha kept silent on God because Veda says that God
is beyond even imagination. His silence is misunderstood as atheism. He concentrated on
the society, which is entire universe. All the human beings in this universe must be
uplifted through right knowledge. Buddha means knowledge. Any incarnation of God
does the same work.

Jainism is another page. They do not kill any living being. The highest justice (Dharma)
is non-violence (Ahimsa). God has given life to any living being. What right you have to
kill and eat it? You can kill even a human being if he disturbs the peace and justice of a
human society. Lord killed evil people in that way. But to kill a living being which does
not harm you in any way is the highest sin. God has given sufficient vegetarian food to all
the living beings. Science proves today that non-vegetarian food is not good for health.

Similarly there are precious traditions of other religions which should be copied on
different pages of the book of spiritualism. It should be just like a book of science.
Spiritualism is the most important practical line to achieve the grace of the God. As the
Science is the universal subject, spiritualism must also be the universal subject. The
nations may have physical boundaries but the spiritualism is the single ocean in which all
the religions mix like rivers. Every human being in this world must enter this ocean
through a river and settle there as a sea fish. The man should not stop the journey while
he is in the river. He should follow the journey of the river up to the end where he can
find the sea with unlimited boundaries. The man is not moving along with his religion
and is becoming stagnant as a river fish only.

214. Resolving contradictions between different scriptures

The same Lord came to different parts of the world in different age to preach the same
Divine Knowledge. All the scriptures of the world are the records of the knowledge given
by the same Lord and hence cannot contradict each other. Yet we find sometimes that
there are some glaring contradictions between different scriptures of the world. This is in
part due to fact that the Lord taught the same truth in different ages and places in a
slightly different way, so as to suit the culture and language of the people. This is only an
extraneous difference. The essential knowledge is the same. Correct interpretation will
remove the contradiction. Sometimes there may be an apparent difference even in the
essential meaning.

In such as case the inconsistency is probably caused by corruption of the scripture over
generations. Comparison with other scriptures of the world will help in removing the
corrupted portions in each scripture. Here it becomes essential to bring in experience as a
pramana or a valid means of knowledge. While comparing contradictory views in
different scriptures, the view which agrees with experience or anubhuti should be taken
as correct.

215. Even the super power of Satan is also from God’s power only

Even in the case of a demon, the miracle done by him indicates the existence of God’s
power in him, which is given by the God for his severe penance. The demon is like a
photochemical cell which captured the solar energy but not the sun. Even the super power
of Satan is also from God’s power only. Therefore, miracle cannot give you the address of
even the partial incarnation since demons are doing miracles and it is the most misleading
factor. The liberated soul, which is a devotee, is remaining in its own original state when
God exits. The devoted soul may remain in the same human body for some more time as
in the case of Parasurama or may leave the human body along with the God for another
future service. Therefore, the devotee can attain the highest goal of becoming the full
human incarnation.

Above this goal, there is nothing higher and hence I say that this is the only highest goal.
The devotee can become Krishna or Jesus but cannot become God (Para Brahman) who
is hidden in the human body of the full incarnation. This is impossible because the
creation can never become the creator. If the creator and creation become one and the
same, the original purpose of creation (entertainment of creator) is lost. The soul is a part
of creation (Para Prakruti) and I have already given several arguments in this context,
which need not be repeated here.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

216. Establishment of Universal Spirituality

Leaving the concept of the central Lord who is the ruler of the souls, breathing exercises
(Pranayama), meditation upon the soul, self-realization etc., are only beating around the
bush. Without the logical establishment of the concept of one God in all the religions,
Universal Spirituality, one family of all the human beings, world peace etc are only the
illusory castles or the real castles built upon the ground without the foundation. All such
aims will be either unreal or temporary realities only in practice.

One may achieve the oneness of the human beings temporarily during the time of his
preaching the audience. Such oneness is like the oneness of human beings achieved
during the deep sleep of all the human beings for which no trace of preaching is required.
When you ask all to love each other without hatred, it is impractical in the practical life of
ordinary human beings. The preacher is a saint and has no interaction with society that
can lead to anger and hatred. But I am an employee doing my duties sincerely without
any trace of corruption.

But several ignorant people are angry with me for not favoring them and become my
enemies in spite of my several appeals. It is easy to preach the Universal Brotherhood for
a saint but it is impossible to practice it for an ordinary employee in the world. What is
the solution for this? The only solution is to attack this issue at the level of intelligence by
analysis and there is no use of attempting at the level of mind with love and appeal. The
intelligence (Buddhi) is the driver of the body (Vehicle) and leads the soul (Owner). You
have to guide the driver and not the inert vehicle or the incapable owner.

If you can establish the concept of one God in all religions and convince all the drivers of
the human bodies, the unity and peace is sure to come forever.

At the lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

217. Logic Only can bring unity among religions

Today the development of science is terrible, which is the faculty of logic and analysis.
Today the heart is reduced and the brain is expanded. The old generations were having a
broad heart and less brain. The heart can be inspired by appeals but the brain will not be
satisfied by appeals. If you appeal “All the human beings are one and the same internally
and externally. God is one only. Do not quarrel with each other and be united as one
family”, the effect of such appeal is temporary only. When the devotee returns back, the
emotion is subsided by next day itself.

The reason is that his or her intellectual facility (Buddhi) is not satisfied. You have not
given the logical analysis of such concepts. You have worked at the level of mind only
and not at the level of intelligence. Mind is the steering rod and the intelligence is the
driver. Mind is in the hands of intelligence. Due to this reason only, the Lord started Gita
with the concept of knowledge and analysis (Buddhi Yoga). The driving knowledge of
the driver is more important than the driver. The correct driving depends on the correct
driving knowledge imparted on him by the teacher of the driving school, who is the
Satguru.

In the case of Arjuna, the teacher of the driving school himself became the driver! You
cannot imagine the fortune of Arjuna. When God Himself became the driver, He is called
as Satguru. The word Sat is used to mean God. Guru means guide.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

218. Unity of Religions

The correlation of the scriptures of various religions was done in a detailed way by
several prophets who aimed at the world peace. Even I have done this correlation in
major topics like human rebirth, concept of human incarnation etc. The effect of such
correlation is not much because the devotees of various religions are neither influenced
by the unity of the scriptures nor by the unity of human beings having the same bodies of
matter and energy externally and the internal souls made of the same pure awareness.
Scriptures are the concepts given by various forms of God. Devotees feel that these forms
of God are totally different from each other. Unless you bring the correlation of the
various forms of God belonging to different religions, the problem is not solved in the
root. You have to come from top to bottom in the solution for difference. The correlation
of unity in the scriptures and in the human beings is an attempt of solving the problem
from bottom to top. If you can prove the unity of the forms of God and establish the
concept of single God in various religions, the scriptures have to be correlated forcibly
because one God cannot speak contradicting concepts in various religions.

Like this if you come from the top for the solution, there is always a tremendous binding
force acting on the heads of devotees to correlate the scriptures. Even if some little
variations exist in the scriptures, they have to be unified by force in the light of unity of
God, who is the single speaker of various scriptures.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

219. Even mental feeling is sin

The sin comes by the feeling itself. Mind is the main reason of the sin. The inert body
without mind cannot have the sin.

Even though Sita was touched by Ravana through body, she was sinless as per the
certificate given by the Fire god. Renuka was punished for her mental sin even though
her body did not even touch the other person. In such case, can anyone say frankly that he
or she is not a sinner at anytime of the life? I have to be very frank because the case that
you have moved is very delicate and is of critical nature. I have to expose the facts of this
case from all angles without any shy.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

220. If your goal is God, you can reach Him by any quality you have

Whatever pleases God is good and whatever is disliked by God is bad (Hareh Kopakaram
Papam, Punyam tasya Priyapradam). This truth was also acknowledged by God in Gita
(Sarva Dharman…). All the three qualities are created by God only to help the spiritual
effort of the soul (Yechaiva ..Gita) and are good if they are diverted towards God. When
they are diverted to the world, the purpose of their creation is lost and they become bad.
To divert them to God, God comes down in human form possessing the bad qualities also
and shows such diversion practically. The soul is constituted by the three qualities; where
as the medium (human form) of God is constituted by the three qualities and not God.
You are a cloud and God is the Sun existing in another cloud. The cloud is criticizing the
sun for the black colour of the cloud! God is unimaginable and no quality can be His
characteristic (Nachaham…, Natvamteshu… Gita). He has chosen such similar medium
so that He can become close to us by mixing with us freely. For the demonstration of the
diversion of all the three qualities to God, He also requires those three qualities
associated with Him. From such demonstration, you should learn the concept but not
criticize God foolishly with hypocrisy. The original pure path is best and if you are in the
best path, proceed in it. The next middle path is better which is control of the sins. The
third path is to divert the inevitable bad qualities to God by detaching the self from the
worldly bonds completely. All the three paths lead the self to God. If you are in the best
path, you can expect the soul in the middle path to come to you, but you cannot imagine
the third path to come and merge with your path under any circumstances. What is the
fate of those people who are in the third path? Should they be condemned forever? No
no. If their goal is God, they can reach the goal in their own path. The difference is only
in the path but not in the goal. Whether the river takes straight path or curved path, it
reaches the sea (Payasamarnava Iva….Mahimnah Stotram). You have gone to the city in
a car. I have also come to the same city by a donkey. Both of us have reached the same
city. You might have reached the city early, but you should not say that I will never reach
the city. The only reason is that the same city is the goal for both of us. Even if you have
car, if you are traveling in the opposite direction, you will never reach the city, where as I
am certain to reach the goal. Similarly, if your goal is God, you can reach Him by any
quality you have.

221. OSHO Philosophy

One follower of OSHO asked Me that Krishna was not only having illegal relationship
with women but also deceived their husbands because Gopikas came to Krishna in the
midnight while their husbands were sleeping. He charged Krishna as a double sinner. I
asked a question in the line of the philosophy of his Osho. Let us assume an illegal
relationship between a married woman and somebody else. I heard such cases frequently
in the recent time. Osho says that the wife or husband should be frank to express the sin
to the other life partner without hiding the truth. Suppose, both are in the same line. Then,
they can understand each other and proceed in their lines with mutual co-operation.

According to the Hindu ethical scriptures, both will go to hell and have to embrace the
red-hot metallic statues. Both may live with happiness in this world as per Osho. But
what is their fate after the death? Suppose one of these two is very chaste. By knowing
the truth from other side, the life partner either will go for divorce or will be weeping
through out the life. Now the sin is doubled and double punishment is given to the sinner
in the hell. In the case of Gopikas and Krishna, the point is totally different.

Such sinner in Pravrutti (Path of Justice) cannot be either Gopika or Lord Krishna. The
divine background of Gopikas as sages and the total sacrifice of Gopikas are impossible
in the case of any sinner in Pravrutti. Such sin is committed in Pravrutti for another co-
soul and not for the Lord as in Nivrutti (Loving practical sacrifice to Lord). Such sin is
possible in Nivrutti also between a female thinking herself as Gopika and the male
thinking himself as Krishna. Both the cases are ruled out because the total sacrifice of all
the bonds in the world prevents any female devotee to become Gopika even if the real
Krishna exists. Gopika is not simply an illiterate lady as we think. She is the sage who is
putting on continuous spiritual effort from the beginning of creation up to the last part of
the Dwapara Yuga. Such background is impossible to any soul. The state of madness of
Gopikas is also unimaginable and cannot be achieved by any soul. In such a state of
climax no hurdle can stand in the path. You cannot stop any mad person by any type of
effort. The Lord arranged this type of scene just before the beginning of Kali Yuga so that
the bad qualities can be diverted to God for salvation.

The soul gets salvation by such diversion and at the same time the world will be also
peaceful without any disturbance since the bad qualities were detached from the world.
Therefore, Krishna and His message (Gita) are wonderful new dimensions especially for
the dejected souls with inevitable bad qualities. Due to this reason Krishna is said to be
the complete incarnation with sixteen kalas. The Kalas increase in living beings as we
travel from animals to men to devotees and to the human incarnations. The number of
Kalas is the estimation of the power of divine knowledge expressed by God. The most
sinful Kali Yuga needs such highest power of knowledge. Rama expressed only twelve
kalas of knowledge since that much was sufficient in Treta Yuga. Krishna attracted almost
all the souls in Kali Yuga. Gita is His theory and Bhagavatam is His practical. Krishna
means the Lord who attracts all (Krushyate Anena Iti…). Devi Bhagavatam says that the
word ‘Krishna’ represents devotion and practical service through sacrifice. It says that
“Krishi” means devotion and “Na” means practical service (krishih tat Bhakti Vachano,
Nascha Taddasya Vachakah).

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

222. Is God so cruel to allow animal birth to souls?

God is loving every soul and is helping every soul in this world. He never hates any soul.
The punishment in the hell is also to reduce madness of materialism of the soul. Suppose,
one son becomes mad, the father will take him to the doctor and admits him in the mental
hospital where shock treatments are given. Can you say that the father is angry with the
son? Similarly, the hell is for the last sort of trial to transform the soul. The madness is
never cured and the son has to be retained in the hospital only forever.

Same is the concept of the permanent hell. These souls cannot be brought into this world
because they will bring Chaos in this world, just like the mad son cannot be brought out
of the hospital into the society. Some souls are born as birds, animals etc., Here also only
the love of God reflects. As a human being the soul was always interested in eating,
drinking and sex only. The soul never turned to God. In such case there is no use of the
intelligence of the human category, which is meant for analysis of truth. Therefore, the
soul is placed in the cycle of animals, which are also happy like the human beings in
eating, drinking and sex only. The human being may think that he may loose his beautiful
wife and may have to live with a she-buffalo if he is born as he-buffalo. But the point is
that when the soul is born as he-buffalo, the she-buffalo is as beautiful as the present
‘Miss world’!.

The grass will be as tasty as the sweet dish in the meals today. The soul cannot estimate
the happiness of the animal while remaining in the human body. The same happiness is
received by the souls in all types of bodies from eating, drinking and sex. What ever he
desired, that is given to him by God without any disturbance. In the human life the
spiritual knowledge is often disturbing him in achieving the continuous happiness from
eating, drinking and sex. Therefore, God favored the soul by such animal-birth and this is
not punishing the soul.

This means God is helping even His enemies. A father will never harm his issue even if it
opposes him. He wants always the happiness of the child continuously. The devoted souls
want to be with God and derive the divine bliss constantly. God provides opportunity for
such devotees also to make them happy constantly by guiding them in achieving the real
and highest devotion to Him. Therefore, you can see the same love of God on a devoted
soul staying in His abode as an angel and also on a he-buffalo enjoying with the she-
buffalo in a mud pond. Both are continuously happy in their own fields! At last God
provided what ever the child desired. Of course He tried to convert the soul in the he-
buffalo into an angel. When He failed in all His efforts, He has sanctioned the firm desire
of the soul. Therefore, God helped all the souls, whether those loved Him or not.

223. Do not ask any thing from God which is either related to present or future.

When you ask some thing in present or some thing in the future, it clearly means that
you are reminding Him about the corresponding reaction that is to be immediately
implemented in the need. This indirectly means that God is not alert as you are. This is
insulting God. Due to such sin the requirement is not answered. If you are asking to
protect yourself or somebody else, it indirectly means that He is not aware of the things
to be done due to the irresponsibility and this also indicates that He is not as kind as
yourself.

It means that God has potency to help but not kind enough to render the help. On
contrary, it also means that you lack unfortunately the potency. It means if you
fortunately have the potency you could have immediately responded and helped.
Therefore, when ever you ask for anything it clearly means indirectly that God has some
type of defect, which does not exist in your case. When you ask Him to fulfill the desire it
looks as if that your desire is constitutionally justified. But God is not positively reacting
due to either lack of positive response immediately or due to lack of knowledge of the
constitution or due to lack of kindness to help the needy. All these points are very very
subtle. But God is the most subtle and therefore, the knowledge of this analysis will
certainly restrict you from asking any fulfillment of your desire.

Never bring present and future before God. Confine to the past always before God. Look
back at your past life. Hundreds of incidents are there where you were helped by God.
Even if you dispose some incidents through the incidental probability of success or
through the efficiency of your efforts, certainly there are plenty of instances in which the
help from God is clearly evident. At least remember those few incidents and express your
gratefulness along praise to God for His kind help that was already done. The word
Krutajnata means remembering the past help. Kruta means the past help done. Jna means
identifying it by analysis. If you confine to praying the Lord and thanking Him always
about the past helps from Him, the Lord will be immensely pleased. Then the present and
future are spontaneously taken care of by the God. But do not adopt this technique with a
mind that you will be helped by God in the present and in the future by following this
procedure!

You should really follow this path and you should really forget the present and the future.
When large number of people came to hear the message from Jesus, they were hungry by
the noon. This point was brought to the notice of Jesus. He never asked God to provide
food for those hungry people who came to hear God’s word. Had He asked for that, He
would have insulted God. God knows His responsibility very well towards the devotees
who came there to hear about Him. God has the power to fulfill His responsibility even in
the last fraction of second. Had Jesus told God to bless the devotees with food, it clearly
means that God is not as kind as Jesus. Jesus never asked for any thing. He came to know
that there were four breads. He took them and showed to sky. He thanked God for
providing those four pieces of bread.

Immediately the present was responded and the four breads became four thousand breads.
This application of analysis is limited to Nivrutti only. You should not extend this to
Pravrutti. When you are hungry you have to beg the other souls because they are not
omniscient to know that you are hungry. Pravrutti and Nivrutti should never be mixed.

224. Knowledge is more important than miracle

The miracle gives only information about the concept of unimaginable power which is
wonderful. When the imagination fails the wonder is generated Maya means wonderful
and there by it means unimaginable. By this Maya, the possessor of Maya (Mayin) is
inferred. Thus, miracle gives the inference of the existence of unimaginable God. But this
alone is not sufficient. Knowledge consists of three components.

One is God (goal), the second is the soul (traveler) and the third is the path to please God.
These three items (Triputi) forms the whole structure of knowledge. The soul cannot get
the grace of the Lord unless the three components are perfectly realized. In miracle, you
have understood only about the existence of unimaginable God, who can never be
worshipped or served. Therefore, the real form of God is also not known even in that one
component known by miracle.

The knowledge gives the real form of God as human incarnation. By the knowledge you
can know that your self is not God already. By the knowledge only you can know that the
practical sacrifice is only path to please the God. Therefore the miracle is useful to just
enlighten one aspect of one component (God) only. For atheists only these miracles are
necessary who do not believe even in the basic existence of God.

225. Realization

Realization is the stage of determination in the knowledge. The liberation is its practical
consequence. The realization should be based on the right knowledge so that the
liberation is really attained as the immediate consequence of the right knowledge.
Suppose you are bound by a rope. Suppose you find a knife very near to you, which can
be taken by your mouth and the rope can be cut. Such right knowledge gives you the
liberation. The determination to use the knife leads to implementation and the fruit is
liberation.

Suppose the knife has no sharpness. In such case the determination, implementation
cannot give the result. Suppose the knife is just made of a piece of pad, then also no
liberation is possible. Thus if the right knowledge is not intensive or if the knowledge is
twisted and wrong no liberation is possible. Therefore the most important thing for
liberation is not the realization only but it should be the right intensive knowledge given
by the Satguru.

226. Fate of a soul

It is a misunderstanding that the life history of every soul is written by God or destiny.
God is certainly the creator of this whole world like the builder of the stage and the
supplier of dress for a drama. He is responsible up to this level only. The story, dialogues
and actions are written by the created self only. The self is pure awareness and is called as
causal body, but is composed of several types of vibrations which are the feelings or
thoughts or qualities.

The various types result due to various mixing proportions of Sattvam, Rajas and Tamas.
Some of these thoughts have become very strong since from several millions of births.
Such solidified thoughts are like hard diamonds. The bundle of such diamonds is called
as the subtle body. The soul writes its own story of drama based on the directions of these
diamonds (Samskaras or Vasanas). Thus, in that way, these diamonds can be treated as
destiny. But this destiny has nothing to do with God. The soul itself created its own
destiny.

Therefore, the theme of the drama will be uniform in any number of births of that soul.
How to change these diamonds? You can change the destiny. The only way is to cut these
diamonds by divine diamonds which come out from the preaching of divine knowledge
by God through human form called as Satguru. Gita says clearly that God has not created
anything and only the nature of the soul, which is bundle of these diamonds, is deciding
the theme of the life of any soul here (Svabhavastu Pravartate). When God enters this
world in human form, then only God writes His own program which is the story of His
divine play.

Gita says that if you recognize such human incarnation and His divine mission, you will
be liberated through your participation (Janama Karmacha Me Divyam…).

227. A Spiritual Educational Complex

Human incarnations of various types, such as described above, form a complex of various
educational institutions. In this complex, there are different levels of institutions such as
school, college and university. At each level the human incarnation represents the head of
that institution. There is the headmaster for the school, a principal for the college and a
chancellor for the university. Various types of assisting staff to assist all the three are also
present. The three levels of institutions perform their duties within their limited circles.

School level: Atheist becomes a believer

An uneducated person is first admitted into a school. He then goes to a college and finally
to a university. The uneducated person cannot enter the university directly. Similarly an
atheist should first become a believer of God by seeing divine miracles. Converting
atheists into believers is the main purpose of the first type of human incarnation.

College level: Believer becomes a devotee

After becoming a believer in God (theist), a person should become a devotee through
different types of worship and devotional songs. The second type of human incarnation
works for this. The above two types (school and college) of incarnations work for the
purification of the mind of the person. Only when the mind is completely freed from
jealousy and egoism, is it said to be completely purified. Prayers, worship and traditional
practices promoted by the second type of human incarnation, purify the mind. Thus the
person becomes eligible for Jnana Yoga or the Knowledge of God. Lord Shankara has
said that the traditional practices bring about the purification of mind, which makes one
eligible for receiving Jnana Yoga.

University level: Devotee becomes a Jnani

At the university level, the devotee becomes a Jnani (possessor of knowledge). Having
gained the eligibility to acquire this knowledge, he works to get established in this
knowledge, in this step. This third level is the most important level. However if the mind
is not completely purified, Jnana Yoga cannot be achieved. Once the person is established
in Jnana Yoga, he is liberated. When you have this Jnana Yoga, you will be astonished as
said in the Gita (Ascharyavath pasyathi…). The third incarnation reveals the whole true
knowledge in order to convert the devotee to a Jnani.

228. Kingdom of God

Today the sins are within the limits of certain control. What is the reason for this? Do you
think that these courts and police system are controlling sins? People always have
discovered loop holes in every system. The only control of the sins is the concept of God
that was established since several generations by the valuable ancient tradition. People
are controlled to some extent only due to fear of God and the hell created by God. People
know that God knows everything and does not require any witness. Therefore, there is no
argument of any case in the hell. There is no need of any advocate in the hell. The sin is
shown to you through the divine television which is protected as picture. This is the
meaning of word Chitragupta. Such divine concepts are only controlling the sins.

Do not think that such concepts are really unreal but they are useful to control the sins
and so should be retained. I assuredly tell you that such concepts are really real. Your
ignorance of the truth cannot make it unreal. If you are unaware of the snake in the
darkness, it does not mean that the snake is unreal. You will know the reality of snake,
when it bites you. Therefore, the propagation of divine knowledge and devotion can alone
change the society.

When all the human beings become the real devotees of the Lord doing the real worship,
God is pleased with such divine society. His grace will fall on such society. There will be
no problem for any soul. One has to search for the trace of some problem in such society.
The only problem in such society will be the absence of any problem! This is the
permanent solution. This was the dream of Jesus which is the meaning of His word
“Kingdom of God.” Leaving this, if you put any amount of effort, it will be only
thronging spoons of sugar in to the ocean to turn it sweet.

229. Reason for suicides in society

Smt. Uma Ramanath asked for the reason of Suicides in the society.

Swami told like this:

I have already explained the main reason for suicide in My divine knowledge. The main
reason for suicide is lack of divine knowledge. By divine knowledge one can realize that
the main aim of the human life is to achieve the grace of God by pleasing Him and not to
achieve the useless grace of any co-human being by pleasing it and not to please one’s
own self because such pleasure is not only temporary but also is found illusory on
analysis. I gave the example of a student in a college. The academic progress is the main
goal. The games are only secondary arranged for a brief change.

Similarly all the worldly affairs are only secondary activities arranged by God for a brief
change from the main spiritual activity. The illusion of Maya by which, one feels the
forms of matter and the qualities of awareness are real. The problems coming up based on
such illusion lead to suicide. A person commits suicide for not getting a job. A farmer
commits suicide when crop fails. A person commits suicide due to heavy loans. All these
cases are due to lack of divine knowledge, since they do not realize the main goal of
human life. They also do not realize that if they believe in God fully and worship Him,
such problems will be miraculously solved. God will certainly answer even for your
prayers once or twice so that you will follow the spiritual path after experiencing the
existence of God and His power. However, you should not make this as the continuous
businesses.

When the problems are solved, the person is becoming proud in happiness and the two
eyes climb the head. After getting job, one feels that he is a big officer controlling the
entire world! After clearance of loans and after getting riches, one feels that he is the
owner of this entire universe! After receiving good crop, the farmer is indulged in politics
and group rivalry feeling himself as the greatest leader! I still remember, in the olden
days in My village, the farmers after receiving good crops were indulged in doing
Bhajans etc. Similarly a boy or a girl failing in love commits suicide due to lack of the
main aim of the life. He or she does not know that the beauty is only an unreal design of
matter and energy. If matter and energy are separated which are the real entities, the love
vanishes! When the entire world becomes one family irrespective of caste, religion,
nationality etc., people will help each other in solving the problems. The best and real
worship is to help a devotee suffering with a specific problem.

Trying to solve that problem within the limits of your capacity is the best worship. To
stress this aspect only, God was pleased to receive the required service in specific
problem. When Rama lost Sita and was searching for her, your worship to the Lord
should be in line of search for Sita. He will be pleased by such worship. What is the use
of putting flowers on Him, feeding Him with sweets etc., when He is worried for Sita?
Worship means the service which you can do to the Lord in human form to please Him in
His specific problem. By this the Lord indicates that you should help all the devotees in
their specific problems. Such mutual help is the real worship and this is the main aim of
the Lord. Such divine society is the fruit of the divine knowledge from the Lord.

You should be careful about the egoism that may enter your brain after doing the help.
You should say that your help is due to the power of God only. When you say this, you
should be sincere from the bottom of your heart because it is the actual reality. By such
statement, the other person should feel that he should also get the favour from the Lord
through divine service to Him. Then he will also do the same service to other devotees.
Such a divine society consisting of the entire population of the world is the dream of My
divine knowledge. Such mutual help integrated with divine knowledge can certainly
eliminate suicides.

230. Over enjoyment(Bhoga) should be left

Smt Gayathri Chandrasekhar asked that people say that Bhoga leads to Yoga and whether
such concept is correct.

Swami replied like this. The word Bhoga by its root meaning is taken as the meaning for
even the basic enjoyment like eating food. If you do not eat food how can you serve the
God? Veda says that such basic enjoyment should be done (Bhunjeedhah…..). This is the
Yogic meaning (meaning obtained from the word) of the word Bhoga. But in Rudhi
(general usage), the word Bhoga means the over enjoyment of worldly pleasures, which
leads to Roga (illness). This is proved by medical science also. If you become ill how can
you serve God and please Him? Such Bhoga should be left. Tyaga (leaving) of such
Bhoga will make you healthy and enable you to please God (Yoga).

Veda refers to such leaving of over enjoyment (Tena Tyaktena …..). Bhoga is based on
the concept of intensive love on a co-human being or a worldly item. The process of such
intensive love is good because God will be also pleased by such intensive love (Moha)
only. The object of such Moha should be replaced by God. A person is running very fast
in the opposite direction. Only the direction has to be changed but the fast running is
appreciable. By such fast running only he will reach the goal quickly. Therefore, the basis
of Bhoga, which is Moha should be retained and by the spiritual knowledge the object
only should be changed. Thus, the essence of Bhoga, which is Moha will certainly lead to
Yoga or attainment of grace of God.

Bilhana was going in a forest immersed in the memory of his darling. He touched a sage
by his foot by mistake. The sage was meditating upon God. The sage became angry to
curse him. But Bilhana asked, “I am thinking about my darling and I did not know that
my foot touched you. But, you are immersed in the memory of God like me and how you
are aware of the touch?” The sage realized and directed Bilhana to God. The sage learnt
the Moha from Bilhana. Thus both were blessed by God.

The attraction to the worldly bond can be directly transformed into attraction to God.
There is no need of achieving the detachment from the worldly attraction. The detached
soul cannot have the attachment again because the soul is habituated to the continuous
detachment only. Suppose a student is reading novels and not the class books. The
reading-habit is good. You have to replace the novels by class books. This can be
achieved by proper and talented counseling.

Suppose you give sleeping tablets to him so that he will stop reading the novels. By this
the student is not reading novels because he is always sleeping. Now after this stage if
you ask him to read the textbooks, he will refuse, because he is habituated to sleep only
without reading. Similarly, if you bring the soul to complete detachment form the worldly
bonds, it is very difficult to develop attachment to God. In Advaita philosophy such
detachment is achieved by which the soul becomes inert like the tree or a stone. The
devotion cannot be generated in such rock.
The attraction to the world can be taken as the training of development of the very
process of attraction. But the worldly attraction should take a turning point on one day
and should be transformed into divine attraction. If the training is continuous for the
whole life, there is no meaning of such training because the re-human birth is very rare
and it means almost impossible. Moreover, the attraction to the world is accumulated
form millions of births and it is very difficult to bring down the attraction to zero. Instead
of this, it will be easy to replace the world by God. Any way, even after bringing the
attraction to zero you have to again raise it to the sky. Therefore, conversion of the
worldly attraction to God is easy and also desirable.

If you ask the mother to cut her bond with her child, it is impossible. It is easy to replace
her child by Krishna. In fact, the Moha etc are created only to help you in spiritual path.
You have diverted it to the world and misused it. Now you say that Moha is a bad quality.
Moha in its original aim of creation is a good quality. You have made it bad by giving
wrong direction to it. Shri Ramanuja says that the relationship between God and a real
devotee is “Bhogya-Bhoktru Sambandha”, which means that God is the enjoyable item
(Bhogya) and the devotee is enjoyer (Bhokta). The enjoyment of God is the real Bhoga.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

231. Shri Ramanath asked about the meaning of the word “enlightenment”.

Swami told “The word enlightenment means finding the truth clearly after clarification of
all the doubts. This can happen in any branch of knowledge. But this word is generally
used in spiritual knowledge. Gita is the enlightened knowledge of Upanishads. My divine
knowledge is the enlightenment of Gita. The enlightenment means that the torch light is
put on and the illusions disappeared.

The truth is perfectly revealed and all the doubts are cleared, when the soul and the
intelligence are simultaneously convinced by the divine knowledge which analyses the
spiritual concepts in coherence with the scriptures. The enlightenment comes resulting in
the determination that leads into practice. Thus practice is the sign of enlightenment. The
enlightenment of Gita is the realization of the essence of Upanishats which is the concept
of the human incarnation.

In Veda, it is mentioned that God entered the world for real enjoyment (Tadevanu
Pravasat). This point is clearly elaborated in Gita because everywhere in Gita, Krishna
has stressed that He is directly Lord. The essence of Upanishats is this point only but it is
stressed with full clarity in Gita and this is the enlightenment of Upanishats through Gita.
In Gita it is mentioned that the Lord will come again and again whenever there is
requirement. This point is stressed with full clarity in My divine knowledge and thus Gita
is enlightened through My divine knowledge.

232. What is the consequence of Suicide

Shri Ramanath asked about the consequences of the suicide.

Swami replied “As I told you, the human life is almost impossible. The Christianity and
Islam do not agree re-human birth. In Hinduism the re-human birth is admitted but it is
said to be very rare. When the same God is the speaker of all the religions, there cannot
be contradiction. Therefore, this means the re-human birth is generally impossible. But
the omnipotent God can sanction the re-human birth to a soul if there is a hope of its
upliftment. The human birth is meant for the human being having interest in spiritual
knowledge. It does not mean mere human form.

Eating, sleep, emotions related to the environment and sex to produce children are
common to both human beings and animals (Ahara Nidra Bhaya Mithunani…). The
human birth with spiritual knowledge and coming in contact with the human incarnation
happens only once. Such a human birth is called as Brahmana. Here this word is not at all
related to the present caste system. The Brahmana means the human being belonging to
any caste having full interest in the spiritual field and comes in contact with the human
form of the Lord with faith so that he attains the perfect spiritual knowledge (Brahma
Jnanam). If such chance is missed, he will be born as Kshatriya who believes only in his
effort and efficiency with full egoism.

The next birth is Vysya having over attachment to wealth. The next birth is Sudra who is
always selfish. The next birth is fisherman (Ganga putra) in which he kills the fish in the
water. The next birth is hunter (vyadha) who kills the animals in the forest. The last birth
of human form is Chandala who kills even the animals that served him. Thus, the soul
descends by seven births and finally enters the cycle of animals, birds , worms etc.

The soul existing as Brahmana will never commit suicide. The souls of other levels only
commit suicides due to problems in the world. The Brahmana will never commit suicide
because he is well aware of the main divine aim of the human life. Even if the soul of
other types is alive there is very little chance of its upliftment. Veda says that by
committing suicide the soul enters the world of permanent darkness which means
ignorance (asuryanaamate…). This means that the soul directly enters the cycle of
animals etc., on committing suicide. Thus there is only one chance of the birth of
Brahmana for a soul, which means that there is only one chance for any soul to have the
real fruitful human birth in which it can meet the human incarnation.

In the other births the soul has only a very tiny trace of chance to meet and recognize the
human form of the Lord in true spirit. All ready when the possibility of the upliftment of
self is a trace only, if suicide is committed, it looses that trace of chance also. Thus, one
in seven persons can only recognize the human form of the God in the right spirit of the
upliftment of the self. The other human beings do not recognize at all and even if they
recognize, they try to use the Lord for the worldly matters only.

The real suicide is that when the soul is not trying for its spiritual upliftment and always
is dragged by the worldly affairs only. Such a soul will become a lizard which is always
watching for an insect to eat. All its concentration is on the insect only. Gopikas jumped
into fire after hearing the death of Krishna. But it is not suicide, because they have
realized the main aim of the human life, which is the Lord only. What is the use of a soul
always immersed in worldly affairs and worldly bonds only? Such a soul has really
committed suicide already because the soul killed itself (Naatmaana mavasadayet-Gita).

When the sage Sanatsujata came to Dhrutarashtra, Dhrutarashtra asked him about the
death. Then the sage told that the real death is that by which the soul forgets God and is
completely immersed in the world (Pramadakhyo Mrurtyuh). Thus, the soul which leaves
without any contact with God is already a dead soul, which committed suicide. Gopikas
are immortal even though they have committed suicide since they sacrificed their lives
for the love of God. This gross body is just like a shirt according to Gita (Vasamsi
Jirnani..). Therefore, committing suicide is not a big thing for a realized soul. It is just
like changing the cloth. But the purpose for which the suicide is committed is very very
important. If the purpose is due to any worldly matter, the soul is thrown in to the
permanent hell. The reason for this is that the soul has to detach from the world and
attach itself to God.

Instead of doing this, the soul is disturbed due to over attachment to the world and is
committing suicide. In the memory of Krishna, Radha became mad and wandered in the
Brindavanam without food and water. She finally died in the madness of Krishna. That is
suicide due to over attachment to God, but the consequence of such sacrifice of life is
divine and has immortal fruit.

Jesus also sacrificed His life for the sake of God. He said that if one does not carry on his
own cross for the sake of God, he cannot be the dearest devotee of God. Gita says that a
real devotee will even give up the life for the sake of God (Matgata Pranah….).
Therefore, the consequence of suicide for any worldly matter is only the permanent hell.
When Meera was given poison, she swallowed it and was saved by the Lord. Hanuman
tore His heart with His own nails to show Lord in His heart. All these cases of attempt of
suicide but have immense spiritual value. Dhrutarashtra lived hundred and twenty years
but he has already committed suicide, even though he was alive, because he did not listen
to the advice of Lord Krishna even in the worldly matter.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

233. The action of God should be taken in multidimensional angle

The action of God should not be taken in one dimension which will lead to
misunderstanding. For example if you take Krishna, do not think that He danced with
Gopikas just to become close with the people who are having contacts with several
women.

If you take His action only in this dimension, Krishna is misunderstood. Several
requirements coincided. The Kali Yuga has almost entered and most of the people have
developed such tendency. Therefore there is a requirement for the God to come in such
line to become close to the majority. At the same time, the word given to sages to cut
their bonds has to be fulfilled.

The sages cannot be born as males because they desired to embrace the Lord after
becoming women. Therefore that desire was also to be fulfilled. Thus all the dimensions
are coincided and the Lord waited to fulfill this from Treta Yuga to the end of Dwapara
Yuga. If the Lord fulfilled the desire immediately, the people in Treta Yuga will not relish
this. In fact Hanuman belonging to Treta Yuga did not like this and He went up to the
extent of even refusing Krishna as God!

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

234. Without understanding the complete background, the Lord is misunderstood

The actions of God are always viewed with utility in all aspects. Suppose your wife asked
for a sari from Bombay, you will not immediately run to Bombay. Suppose you have a
meeting in the next month in Bombay, then you will postpone the purchase of sari to the
next month which is not as important as the meeting. Even ordinary human beings club
the issues in this way.

What about God? He will club several issues. A Gopika wanted the union with Krishna.
Krishna postponed it to the next birth. The reason is that the same Gopika is going to be
born as Tulasi, the wife of the demon Jalandhara. Then the power of her chastity is going
to protect the demon, who is going to fight with Lord Shiva desiring to marry Goddess
Parvati. Killing Jalandhara is important and therefore, spoiling Tulasi is inevitable.

When the Lord spoiled her, she faught against the injustice. The Lord consoled her by
showing the previous birth. If Krishna fulfilled her desire in the previous birth itself, this
present aspect of killing Jalandhara becomes very critical. If the Lord spoils Tulasi
without this background in the previous birth, the Lord is doing sheer injustice. The Lord
will never do injustice. Therefore several issues are clubbed by the Lord so that the
administration of the world runs smoothly and critical problem like saving Goddess
Parvati from the force of Jalandhara can be solved.

Without understanding the complete background, the Lord is misunderstood. Even in

Nivrutti, the justice is perfectly maintained if the total picture is realized. Thus whether it
is Pravrutti or Nivrutti, the Lord always protects the justice because He is the writer of
the constitution and He is the judge who gives the judgment based on the constitution.

Brahma represents this judicial department. Vishnu represents the various offices of the
administration department. Shiva represents the department of police and army to punish
the injustice. The underlying single force is Lord Datta and therefore there can be no
contradiction. God always points out at the injustice of the souls. The soul cannot point
out at God if the total background is known.
Therefore you have to get the clarification from the Lord for all your doubts, before
criticizing or abusing the Lord with foolish emotion based on the ignorance of the total
reality. Therefore you need not show any sympathy on Lord justifying His peculiar
actions in the field of Nivrutti. Whether it is Pravrutti or Nivrutti the Lord is the
embodiment of the justice.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

235. The human form of the Lord faces many problems during His stay in this
world.

Jesus was boycotted and was even crucified by the priests based on the same reasons of
economy and fame. They feared that Jesus will become famous and the donations may go
only to Jesus. They could not find fault with His divine knowledge (Bible). They have
found irrelevant silly reasons to boycott Him. Jesus told that He will destroy the church
and raise it in three days. He meant His body when He said church because when He
uttered this statement, He was pointing to His body. The priests just repeated the
statement without referring to the finger-indication. Based on this irrelevant point, He
was boycotted and crucified.

Certain people in some regions had boycotted Him in certain times but now in all the
regions, all the people including the priests respect Him so much! Therefore the human
form of the Lord faces such problems during His stay in this world.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

236. The Lord has guts to say the truth even if it is not liked by anybody

The knowledge should be in the view of the permanent welfare of the soul and not in the
temporary sweet-coated poison. The Lord in human form differs in this point. The Lord
has guts to say the truth even if it is not liked by anybody (Satyam Jnanam –Veda). But
the human preachers aspire for money and fame and therefore they twist the knowledge
to suit to the liking of the soul and get their personal benefits.

The Lord does not need such benefits. Even the messenger from the Lord will do his duty
perfectly. He will deliver the knowledge given by God as it is. Suppose you are paid the
total salary of your entire life in the beginning itself and the shop owner asks you to sell
an item. Suppose nobody is coming or only very few are coming. The employee should
not bother about the business. If the employee is receiving monthly salary, he may fear
that if the business is not taking place, his salary may be affected.

God gave the true knowledge to Jesus and asked Him to propagate and He assured the
reward for it to give place to Jesus for sitting on His right side. Now, Jesus has guts to
deliver the knowledge as it is because the salary was already assured. He need not worry
about the business. Therefore Jesus told that unless one leaves the parents, wife and
children and even the life, the soul cannot become His dearest disciple. He told that He
came with the sword to destroy peace in the family. He told that He will split the family.
He told that by His knowledge, the youngsters will rebel against the elders. Even on the
cross, He did not change the version of the Bible.

An ordinary human being cannot tell such pungent truth. Lord Krishna asked Arjuna to
kill his grandfather and all his relatives and for this purpose only the entire Gita was
preached. The Lord shows the ultimate truth to be fixed as the goal so that one can
achieve at least pass marks. If the pass marks are the goal, the student fails. When the
knowledge of Jesus and Krishna are kept as goal, at least the blind attraction on the
family and relatives decreases to some extent. Since the Lord does not require any benefit
from you, He will not mind to reveal the ultimate truth.

237. What is the difference between knowledge, devotion and Sadhana?

The knowledge is the information about God, about yourself and about the path through
which you can please the Lord. You must know the actual form of God and His correct
address. You must also know that you are not God. If you are already God (as Advaita
philosophers say), there is no need of Sadhana because if you are God, every human
being is God. When you are the goal already, what is the need of any spiritual effort?
Then what is the real path to please the God?

The answers for these three questions (Triputi) about the three items that is God, yourself
and the path to please God consist the knowledge or Jnana Yoga. When you get more and
more details about the goal, you develop more and more interest on the goal and such
interest is called as devotion. Rukmini got full information about Krishna from the sage
Narada. The information inspired her and she was fired with love on Krishna. This love
on the Lord is called as devotion. The word love is used in the case of any one or
anybody other than God. To distinguish the love on God, a separate pious word
“Devotion” is used.

The devotion is at two levels. One is theoretical and the other is practical. The theoretical
devotion alone is fraud. However, it is valid if it is associated with practical devotion. The
practical devotion (service) must be associated with the theoretical devotion just as the
plate of meals is associated with a cup of drinking water. Service should be according to
the requirement of the Lord. Some devotees think that the service for the welfare of the
society should be the aim of God. But God is above the society. God is not for the society,
whereas the society is for the God’s entertainment.

His wish or desire is the guiding light for your line of service. If you think that God is for
society, He will ask you to do His personal service. Ramayana is only personal service to
God. Killing of Ravana became inevitable and was not the main goal. If killing Ravana is
the main goal, Rama would not have asked to return Sita so that He will go back from the
war. Therefore if you have confirmed the Lord, you should not apply logic, and you
should become His slave (Dasa) like Hanuman without logic. The aim of your service
should be to please God and not to please the society. In fact your family is a very
important part in the society. You should not sacrifice your family for the sake of society.
You need not also sacrifice the family for God if your family consists of devotees. Only
in the extreme case of opposition, you can sacrifice the family for the sake of the Lord.

It is a very rare case but still such rare case is not ruled out. God in human form and the
devotees are to be served. Among the devotees, the liberated souls who are recognized by
their firm faith and continuous service and sacrifice are the best. Such liberated souls are
more than God because God treats them more than Himself.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness Sri Dattaswami

238. What is sacrifice and what is service?

Sacrifice of what? Sacrifice to whom? These two are the important points. Sacrifice
proves the real love. Sacrifice of words, mind, intelligence, work and fruit of work are the
five items. The sacrifice of the former three items is theoretical devotion which is fruitful
only when it is transformed into the sacrifice of the last two items which is the practical
love. You can realize this truth in your daily experience as seen in the case of your
children. Theoretical love alone will not give any fruit. The theoretical knowledge and
theoretical devotion are like water and fertilizer which applied to the service-tree can
only give fruits through the tree and not directly.

The meals should be associated with the drinking water but offering drinking water only
to the guest cannot be charged. Even the hotel does not charge for it. The sacrifice of first
three items is offering drinking water and the sacrifice of other two is offering meals. To
prove that your bond to God is highest, you have to sacrifice the highest bond. The other
bonds need not be tested. The highest bond may be Dharma, money, life, or children etc.
Some have highest bond with one of these and they can sacrifice all the other bonds for
the sake of that particular highest bond. In such case God competes with that highest
bond only to know whether He is higher than your highest.

People are saying that God is highest for them. Some say this with ignorance and some
tell this knowing that it is not true. In both cases, God proves the truth through the test
(Datta Pariksha). God knows the truth but the revelation of truth is for your sake and not
for His sake. If you realize the truth, you will try to succeed in the next examination by
doing the spiritual effort. Otherwise, you are expecting God to believe whatever you say
and react accordingly. All the prayers to God are utterances of lies only and all the
worships are the trials to fool God.

Generally the word sacrifice is used in the sense of sacrificing the fruit of work (money
or wealth) and service means the sacrifice of work. The saints are not having any wealth
because they have dedicated themselves in the service of the Lord. Therefore sacrifice of
fruit of work does not apply to their case. Hanuman is a bachelor-saint and so can only do
the sacrifice of work.

The requirement of the Lord is also very important. To get back Sita, the Lord required
only sacrifice of work and the other sacrifice was not required. Krishna was a young boy
in Brundavanam and does not require the sacrifice of work because His mission has not
started. Gopikas were householders and women who cannot sacrifice the work like
Hanuman in a war against injustice. They sacrificed their wealth (Butter) because the boy
also requires good food to grow well. The requirement was for the sacrifice of the fruit of
the work.

Butter was the fruit of their tedious work. When the war against injustice came, the Lord
required the sacrifice of work from Arjuna just like from Hanuman. Rama required the
service in His personal work whereas Krishna required the service in the work of the
devotees (Pandavas). If you take Sankara, the Lord required the service of the four
disciples in propagation of knowledge for the welfare of the society. Similarly Ramanuja
and Madhva required the service of the disciples in the propagation of devotion and
divine service. Therefore the Lord may sometimes require your service in His personal
work or your service in the personal work of a devotee or in the welfare of society. The
Lord knows what to do when. His decision is always the best. You should not analyze the
Lord because He is beyond logic.

Once you have recognized the God, the logic should be dropped. The logic is only used
to reject the non-God items posing as God. Logic is very much required in this line.
However, once the confirmation was over with the help of logic, you should serve Him
with blind faith. You can use the logic for identifying the Lord and the logic is useful here
to filter the pseudo human incarnations. The fruit of work (money) is only another form
of work. When you work, you get some money as the fruit. When you sacrifice that fruit,
it means you have done that work. Alternatively, when you have done that work to the
Lord, you have sacrificed the fruit of work.

Work is a form of energy. Matter (money) is also a form of energy. Therefore work and
money are one and the same even in the light of the inter conversion of matter and energy
as proved in science. One can do any one of these two or both according to his
convenience and according to the extent of his devotion. The devotion should not be due
to fear from hell expecting the Lord to protect them there. The devotion should not be
also for any fruit in return.

When there is no aspiration for any fruit and when there is no desire for protection here
or there, such devotion is real. Sankara says that the devotion and service should not
aspire any fruit here as well as there (ihaamutra phala viragah).

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

239. The whole world is the kingdom of God

You must realize that the whole world is the kingdom of God as stated by Jesus. Any
injustice will be punished by Him and you need not worry about it. Your view of the
punishment is revenge but His view of punishment is to transform the soul. If somebody
has stolen your money, don’t pray to God to punish that person. Everything is recorded
by Him unlike the courts which register the case only when a complaint is given.

The enquiry by God takes place immediately. Sometimes you find no punishment from
God and you are scolding God. The silence of God means that the enquiry was completed
and the judgment was “no punishment”. In the previous birth, you might have stolen
money from that person and today you paid along with the compound interest. In this
case there cannot be punishment and the enquiry was over. Since you do not know this,
you mistake God for His silence.

Suppose such background is not there, then you will get your money with interest in
some other way which is compensated by God. That person will lose the money along
with the interest. You will see it with your eyes. But suppose you cursed that person with
revenge, you will receive the punishment in addition to the above. Kauravas stole a share
of wealth of Pandavas and finally they lost their whole kingdom. Pandavas gained the
total kingdom which is double the share. But Draupadi was cursing Kauravas aspiring
always for the revenge.

She was also punished for this as she lost all her children. Therefore, we should not scold
even our enemy even by words or mind. God takes care of the entire case. If the injustice
wins, it is a black mark for His administration only. He is well aware of it and will take
the necessary action. He is more serious in your case than yourself. Unlike the court, He
does not require registration of case or witness or advocate. When Hiranyakashipu
tortured Prahlada, Prahalada kept silent and did not curse him in any way.

The Lord took very serious action in that case. Thus you have to keep God at every step
as the basis in the worldly life also (Pravrutti). Jesus told that unless you excuse others,
you cannot be excused by God. Your enemy will be punished if he does not excuse
others. Such behaviour which indicates the full faith on God at every step of the life is
divine Dharma in Pravrutti or Nivrtutti.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

240. What is Dharma?

The word Dharma means the characteristic property which stands for the identification of
an item. The Dharma of fire is burning by which it is identified as fire. It is the expected
natural behaviour of an item in the creation. If the fire is cool, such coolness is Adharma
which means that it is not the expected property of the specific entity.

The human being in this creation is a specified entity and is expected to show certain
characteristic properties (Dharmas) by which he or she is identified as the human being.
If the human being shows the characteristic properties of other specified items, it loses its
identification. When God created various items in this world, He has assigned certain
characteristic properties to be associated with the corresponding items. Therefore the
possession of Dharma is the will of God. The balance of the creation is maintained when
specified items exhibit their specified properties assigned by God. All the inert items like
fire, water etc. are strictly following the will of God. God created this universe for
entertainment. The entertainment is disturbed if the natural balance is upset. God has
given freedom to the human beings, which is the inherent desire of the souls.

God has full freedom to change any characteristic property of any specified item. When
He wished, the fire could not burn, the air could not move and the water could not quench
even a dry grass blade. Since He is omnipotent, He has unlimited freedom. But the souls
have very little potentiality. Their freedom is naturally conditional and limited. The living
being has little freedom within its specified boundary of its potentiality. If freedom is not
given, it is not a living being. Among the living beings, the human being has full
potentiality due to analytical faculty (Buddhi) and thus relatively more freedom is granted
to it. The human being should understand the limits of its capability and should freely
behave within that specified boundary.

Such behaviour is Dharma which is expected by God. If the limits are violated and the
behaviour of some other category like animals is shown, the soul is punished and the soul
is pushed into the life cycle of animals. Such animal lives in the forest and can have its
characteristic behaviour which does not upset the balance of animal kingdom in the
forest. But when a human being lives in the society of human beings and behaves like an
animal, the society of human beings is disturbed. The humanity is the most advanced race
of the living beings into which God often enters in human form (Manusheem
Tanumasritam –Gita). Dharma is called as Pravrutti which is the expected behaviour of
the human being with the other co-human beings to maintain the balance of humanity.
Only in humanity, the spiritual effort is taken up by some blessed and realized human
beings. Therefore the behaviour of the human being should not upset any other human
being. Therefore if a co-human being is a devotee of God and a spiritual aspirant, he or
she should not be even hurt. God excuses even the atheist who abuses Him but will never
spare if the atheist even hurts the devotee.

You should not hurt the feelings of any co-human being except in the case of punishment.
Even in the punishment, your aim should not be to hurt the sinner but to change him.
Even if you are an atheist you must respect the devotees also because they are your co-
human beings. Whether you are an atheist or theist, you are expected to maintain the
balance of the human society. The highest Dharma is only not to hurt any soul including
birds and animals. Even a tree is a living being and you should not cut any green tree.
Non-violence towards the living beings is the essence of Dharma (Ahimsa Paramo
dharmah). Ungratefulness is said to be the highest sin (Adharma). An atheist who may
have any number of good qualities is the highest sinner because he is ungrateful to the
creator. A theist who may have any number of bad qualities is good with reference to
such atheist (Apichetsa –Gita). Of course you are expected to be a theist with good
qualities.

An atheist with bad qualities is the worst, called as demon and will be punished by God
immediately. Therefore gratefulness to the creator and not hurting any soul except in the
punishment is the essence of Dharma. As long as you are not disturbing the balance of
society, God does not distinguish the good and bad qualities applied in the path of the
spiritual journey. The hunter who gave flesh as offering to the Lord attained the eternal
abode of God. He killed a rabbit which is a harmless animal but neither he nor his family
took that flesh. He did not sell the flesh. This sin was excused by God due to lack of
selfishness and immense love to God. As long as Lord does not enter into your life, you
have to reject Adharma and vote for Dharma.

But when God enters your life, you have to vote for God only even against Dharma, if
required (Sarvadharman-Gita). Dharmaraja did not tell a lie even though the Lord asked
him to tell a lie. He voted for Dharma against God. The result of Dharma is temporary
and he went to heaven for some time. He did not go to the permanent abode of God. In
fact, dharma need not have any reward because it is expected behaviour. The heaven is
only a consolation gift to encourage not to do Adharma. Arjuna killed His grandfather
Bhishma on the instruction of the Lord and he was permanently associated with the Lord
Narayana as Nara. God is the greatest and is beyond even dharma.

After all, the aim of Dharma is only not to displease God. In Pravrutti which has no
reference to God, you should not displease any co-human being. In Nivrutti, you should
please God at the cost of even sacrificing Dharma. In Pravrutti, you should not leave your
old parents, your wife and your children. But in Nivrutti, Shankara left His old mother,
Prahalada got his father killed, Buddha left His wife and child and Meera left Her
husband. The result of Pravrutti is not to displease God whereas the result of Nivrutti is to
please God. One should not confuse with these two fields (Pravruttincha Nivruttincha –
Gita). The expected behaviour (Dharma) differs in these two fields separately. You have
to follow Dharma corresponding to the field in which you exist.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

241. God and His constitution are giving information of the path desired by you and
do not compel you to choose any path (Jnapakam natu karakam…Shankara). The
Railway authorities prepare the Railway guide. It gives the route to Bombay and other
cities. It does not create desire in your mind to go to Bombay. If you desire to go to
Bombay, it explains the route and it does not insist you to take up the journey to Bombay.
Neither the guide nor the authorities are responsible for your benefit or loss in Bombay.
Shankara argued with the Purvamimamsakas, who said that one should perform the
sacrifice to reach the heaven. Shankara said that Veda is like the guide and God is like the
authority in the above simile.

The upper worlds contain fully realized souls called angels. The top most world contains
liberated souls in the inner circle of God. The lower worlds contain demons, who are
rigid atheists. There is no necessity to teach the realized souls and to teach the rigid
ignorant souls. Liberated souls are far superior than even the realized souls called angels.
Indra etc., are realized souls whereas Adishesha, Garuda, Narada etc., are liberated souls.
The angels are affected by ignorance very rarely and hence preaching is almost
unnecessary in the upper worlds. Therefore, there is no need of incarnation in the upper
world. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are the constant energetic forms of God in the upper
worlds. Similarly, there is no need of any incarnation in the lower worlds because there is
no use of any preaching to rigid demons. This earth contains human beings, which are
neither fully realized nor fully ignorant. These human beings become realized after
hearing the preaching and become human beings again, which are mild demons and mild
angels integrated together in one form. Therefore, God comes again and again to preach
and uplift them. This story of uplift and subsequent fall repeats again and again and hence
earth is a constant stage of continuous engagement for entertainment of God. The
liberated souls always accompany God as the constant troop of actors and receive the
entertainment along with God.

It is said that angels also request God to give chance for participation in this
entertainment. Arjuna is called as Nara, who represents the human being (Nara). Arjuna
was always having a mixed feeling towards Krishna to accept Him as God. Even
Dharmaraja, a better human being failed to accept Krishna as God in crossing justice on
His order. But Bhima is said to be the middle liberated soul in the chain of Madhva cult
consisting Hanuman, Bhima and Madhva, the three sons of Vayu as the sincere servants
of God. Bhima represents Tamas, which is famous for rigid nature. Tamas diverted to
God brings the soul to the stage of liberated souls and the same tamas diverted to world
brings the soul to the state of demons. Brahma represents Sattvam, the state of
Knowledge, though stands for Rajas is involved in knowledge, which is Sattvam. The
process of analysis is action and action is Rajas. The analysis of knowledge should end in
the practical implementation, which is action. Vishnu who stands for Sattvam but is
always dynamic indicates this second state of action of knowledge.

Rajas is action. Vishnu is the administrator with action but is with knowledge of
discrimination in the background. Sattvam and Rajas are integrated in both the cases.
Finally the determination, which is Tamas representing Shiva, is important for constancy
in the implementation. Thus, Bhima is a liberated soul, who maintained constancy in
implementation. Arjuna and Dharmaraja slipped in the service of Krishna but Bhima
never slipped and did whatever Krishna ordered. When Krishna told to kill the elephant
by naming it as Asvatthama and order to Bhima to kill it to cheat Drona, Bhima
implemented it at once. Madhva is the final preacher who preached the service. Vayu is
said to be very strong and the best angel in Veda (Vatat Vishnoh Balam…., Vayurvai
Kshepishtah….). The knowledge (Sattvam) associated with Rajas is analysis and the
knowledge associated with Tamas is determination. The determination leads to constancy
in practical implementation. The three qualities are always integrated and inseparable in
every stage of spiritual effort and similarly you cannot separate the three divine forms of
God (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) who descended as the three spiritual preachers
(Shankara, Ramanuja and Madhva) who are integrated in every stage of guidance.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

242. God never gives any value for the magnitude of the potentiality

Let us take the scene of Ramayana in which the monkeys are trying to jump over the
ocean in the service of Rama. The monkeys expressed their abilities to jump in terms of
miles of the distance that can be covered by them in jump. Hanuman could jump all the
distance and finished the work of Rama. The devotion (Bhakti) is equal in Hanuman and
monkeys. Every monkey is ready to sacrifice its total effort. But the monkeys could not
do the work only due to inadequate potentiality (Shakti) and not due to inadequate
devotion. God sees only the total surrender of your potentiality in His work, which is a
practical proof for the total devotion. The magnitude of your potentiality is not a point for
God. Here in this case, since every monkey is ready to surrender its total potentiality,
each monkey is equal to Hanuman in the eyes of God. There is no difference in the
surrender of total effort. Hanuman could do the work only due to the adequate
potentiality and is not greater in devotion than any monkey. Therefore, the fruit from God
should be equal to Hanuman and also the monkeys. The Lord gave a place for all the
monkeys in His Brahma Loka (called as Vaikuntha in the case of Narayana) but He made
Hanuman as Brahma Himself, who is the Lord of Brahma Loka. Does this mean that God
favors the magnitude of potentiality also as the measure of devotion?

The answer for this is that God never gives any value for the magnitude of the
potentiality. God gives value only to the surrender of total potentiality possessed by the
devotee. Then, what is the answer to the above question? The answer is that though God
treated Hanuman and monkeys equal in the above scene due to equal extent of maximum
devotion, there is a difference between Hanuman and the monkeys. After the war, Rama
rewarded all the monkeys with golden ornaments for their service. All the monkeys took
the jewels and wore them. This indicates the aspiration of fruit in return for the service,
which is hidden in their sub-consciousness without their knowledge. Rama did not
reward Hanuman and Hanuman never felt anything for this. Sita felt for this and
rewarded Hanuman with a chain of pearls. Sita could not understand Rama. She should
have kept silent because the actions of God are unimaginable. By rewarding Hanuman,
Sita insulted the Lord indirectly before all. The drama continued further by the will of the
Lord who was silent with a smile.

Hanuman took the chain and started cutting the pearls with teeth and threw them away
after observing each pearl. Sages and monkeys objected this and asked Hanuman for the
reason. Hanuman told that He was searching for Rama in pearls and anything without
Rama is useless for Him. By this Hanuman is establishing the fact that God does not exist
in the creation (Neti Neti…Veda). Then, the sages told that His body also must be useless
since Rama is not in that body. Then Hanuman tore His heart and showed Rama in His
heart. This shows that God as Narayana (Rama) is present in Him because Shiva is
Narayana and He is the incarnation of Shiva. Hence, devotees should not attempt to do
this! This clearly proved that the servant of the Lord should not aspire anything other than
the Lord as the fruit of service. By this Hanuman excels all the monkeys and His special
fruit is justified.

Let us come to Sita who bent her head after this. What is the reason in it? You think that
Rama insulted Sita in return. It is not so. The reason is that she joined the list of monkeys
since she was also wearing the ornaments, which do not contain Rama. She is lesser than
Hanuman. This is also justified because Sita is a liberated soul and Hanuman is God.
Therefore, do the service to God without aspiring any fruit in return. Aspiration for fruit
gives lesser fruit and service without aspiration for fruit gives the highest fruit in the case
of God. This point is valid in the case of God (Nivrutti) only and one should not be
foolish to follow this in Pravrutti because people will exploit you! Of course, you can
implement this concept in serving the poor people and deserving devotees and such
service is a training for you for Nivrutti. But you should not implement this through out
the Pravrutti because exploiters are many in this world especially in this Kali Yuga!

At the Lotus Feet of His holiness, Sri Dattaswami

243. The Three Essential Components of Spiritual Effort

Complete faith, complete devotion proved through practical sacrifice and complete
absence of aspiration for fruit in return are the three essential components of the spiritual
effort. The faith in the existence of God is the fundamental. Regarding the address of
God, the contemporary human incarnation is the convenient path for doing practical
service. The practical service cannot be done for the formless God and for statues of
energetic forms of the upper worlds like Vishnu and of past human incarnations (In the
case of statues the priests enjoy your service indirectly). Direct and meaningful practical
service is possible only in the case of contemporary human incarnation as done by
Hanuman and Gopikas.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

244. Shankara told that one should not aspire the fruit either in this world or in the
upper world for divine service done (Ihamutra Phalaviragah….). Today people have no
faith in the existence of the very upper world! There is no point of fruit after death. There
is no hell from which God can protect us. There is no heaven to receive any happiness
after death. There is no Brahma Loka at all. Hence, people want fruits in this world itself.
Some people are not sure of the fruit in this world also after doing the service. Hence,
they say that if the fruit is given first, the service will be rendered after receiving the fruit.
This shows the lack of confidence in God even in the business.

For some, the existence of God itself is doubtful and hence they require the fruit first and
then only do some thing in return. Some say that if the fruit is given first, then they will
favor God by believing Him. They feel that God wants to increase the percentage of
believers in this world. They feel that if the percentage of believers is not maintained,
God will loose His Supreme post! In spite of such mean and meaningless mentalities,
God is responding to every trend because God is the divine Father and is always anxious
of the eternal uplift of the souls. Except for this point, God has no other reason to respond
to every attitude of such low levels.

Hanuman showed Rama in His heart because God exists in Him always, since He is the
incarnation of God. Even otherwise, God could have entered the heart of Hanuman
temporarily for the proof to protect such best devotee. In the case of Hanuman such
temporary entry is not required because God already exists in Hanuman, who is the
incarnation of God. Hanuman is God as actor and is devotee as the role. After this
incident also Rama did not announce the fruit to be given in the upper world because
Hanuman as the best devotee is not aspiring for any fruit in this world as well as in the
upper world. From the point of Hanuman, there is no need to announce the fruit of the
upper world also. This does not mean that the fruit is absent. When the aspiration is
absent, the fruit will be the best.

When God is pleased, the fruit is seen here as well as there. If God is pleased with you,
you will receive the fruit here as well as there because God is the Lord of both the worlds
simultaneously. If His grace exists in the upper world, it must also exist here also. Some
people say that their welfare in the upper world is protected even though their welfare
here is damaged. This concept is meaningless. If God blessed you, you will be blessed
here as well as there simultaneously. If you are well here, you will be well there also. God
will not show anger on you here and show grace in the upper world. Either grace or anger
is shown simultaneously here as well as there. You may be troubled for some time here
for the sake of divine test but that is not permanent. If you are permanently suffering in
this world, it means, you are the sinner forever. The anger of God on you is constitutional
only. You are punished for your sins only according to the computerized divine
constitution and personally God does not favor or does not curse you (Nadatte kasyachit
papam….Gita). Therefore, such eternal sinners need very much the spiritual knowledge,
so that they get a permanent solution.

Hence, while serving them externally for temporary relief, you should preach the spiritual
knowledge and turn them in to devotees. Today some are doing the social service to the
downtrodden people, but that is not a permanent solution. Social service with divine
background is very much required. People who concentrate on the social service only will
get temporary heaven and the people who receive such social service also get a temporary
solution only. It is a temporary concept on both sides. Today the Government is
concentrating on social service without touching the element of God in the name of
secularism. In the ancient times, kings were also doing social service but they were
combining it with divine mission so that both the donor and receiver get permanent
solution. The ancient kings went to the permanent abode of God and the served beggars
also became devotees and got permanent solution. The present Government of secular
policy will go to the temporary heaven and the present poor people served by this
Government also get the temporary relief limited to this life and to this earth only.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

245. Why one should ask some worldly things?

You are doing worship and service to God. However, you are asking some worldly
desires. For all this, you are forgetting that God Himself is the highest fruit. You can get
infinite happiness even by singing a song on Him. Then how much bliss you get from
serving Him? Then you are getting the infinite bliss directly from the worship and service
of God. Why should you ask some worldly benefit which does not give even a trace of
happiness and instead gives misery only?

You are given a pot with divine nectar. You are selling it in a hotel for a cup of sugarless
coffee. Therefore the devotees, who have tasted the bliss from His knowledge and from
the devotion to Him, never ask for any other fruit. After all, the aim of the boon is only to
get happiness. When you are deriving it in infinite quantity directly from God, why
should you sell God for getting misery? The rich people who are blessed by God for their
prayers are not at all happy.

They are running to the spiritual people for getting just a drop of the divine nectar.A real
spiritual devotee will refuse to sell even a drop of divine nectar to these rich people
because if he does so, he will become rich and will have the same fate. If you see
Goddess Lakshmi who is pressing the feet of the Lord with Her both hands is gaining
infinite bliss from the service of the Lord. The Lord has given infinite wealth to Her. She
knows that the wealth gives only misery. Therefore she never feels that she is the
possessor of that wealth.

She feels that she is the constant slave of the Lord. With just Her left hand, She is
showering the inert gold coins, which give lot of misery only to the people who are
craving for the wealth. While praying Goddess Lakshmi, we do not even understand Her
nature and philosophy.

Parvati is very beautiful. She was serving Lord Shiva with all good qualities like
obedience etc. Still Lord Shiva was not attracted to Her even though the stupid cupid
tried for it. The Lord turned him into ash and disappeared. The external beauty (form of
matter) and good qualities (forms of awareness) are considered as unreal only by the
Lord.

However, when Parvati developed immense love through penance, the Lord tested
whether such devotion was still attached to the external form and qualities. He came in
disguise and discouraged Parvati about the frightening external form and the bad qualities
about Shiva. But when the love of Parvati was proved to be above the external form and
qualities, the Lord gave half of His body to Her. Later on He became even a slave of Her,
keeping Himself under Her feet as you can see the dance of Kaali over Shiva.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

246. A soul cannot become God

God has given this power of creation to His best devotee called as Hanuman. This shows
His willingness to give away this responsibility. But if we analyze, Hanuman is the
incarnation of Lord Shiva and Shiva is another name of God (Shivascha Narayanah –
Veda). Therefore, God Himself in the form of a soul only could take up this
responsibility. Radha is said to be the incarnation of His power of happiness called as
“Hladini Kala”. The creation is a form of His power. The soul is a part and parcel of the
creation. Therefore, Radha is really a soul. But, Radha (the soul) is made as the queen of
Goloka, which is above His abode (Brahmaloka). Hanuman could enter Brahmaloka only.

It is logical because Hanuman being God can enter only God’s abode. The final
conclusion of all this is that a soul can be given higher position than God but the soul
cannot become God especially in involving in the impossible responsibility of creation of
Universe. You can get the power of creating matter and awareness from the already
existing primary energy. The position of a soul is exactly the position of the wife and the
position of God is exactly the position of the husband. The husband can give the salary to
His wife which is the fruit of His work. The husband can keep the wife on His head and
act as her servant. But, the wife cannot do the work of the husband. When the wife can
get all the fruit of the work into her hand and can make her husband as her servant, is she
not foolish to be adamant of doing his work which is impossible to her?

The Veda says that even the male human beings in this world are women and wives of
God only (Striyah Satih pumsa ahuh). This means all the souls irrespective of the gender,
which is a characteristic of the external gross body only can attain the master position
over God but cannot become God. It is foolishness to aspire to become God due to the
impossible responsibility, when the higher position than God is made available.

247. The soul is twice negligible for God

This world is ‘Mithya’, which means almost unreal because its reality is negligible. The
existence of a tiny cut on your shirt is negligible and you will not count its existence. This
entire world is almost unreal for God and is like a day dream. All the five elements viz.
matter and energy are almost unreal in view of God. The soul is made of tender and
weakest energy called as awareness (chit), which is nervous energy flowing in most
delicate matter i.e. brain and nerves. This nervous energy is almost negligible before the
physical matter and inert energy and this physical matter and energy are negligible before
God. Thus, the soul is twice negligible for God.

The most negligible item of this world is the soul. The qualities or feelings (gunas) are
like waves of soul. They are negligible before the existence of soul. The water associated
with some kinetic energy induced becomes a wave. The wave represents that kinetic
energy. The physical existence in terms of visibility of energy is negligible before the
matter. Thus the wave representing energy is also not completely unreal and can be called
as ‘Mithya’. The subtle body made of these qualities is Mithya before the soul. Thus a
dream made of feelings is Mithya before a soul. What are these bonds like parents, wife,
children etc? These bonds are only just feelings, which are waves of the nervous energy.
A father and daughter or a brother and sister separated from the beginning met in a
foreign country and got married. Later on they realised and could not continue as couple.
The daughter of sister is married but the daughter of brother is treated as daughter. In
some other region and religion, the system is reversed! It is the wave of mind or feeling
that is the essence of a bond. Therefore all these bonds are almost unreal (Mithya) for a
soul.

Why there should be tensions, murders and suicides for the sake of these almost unreal
bonds? Why there should be corruption for the sake of these almost unreal bonds and go
to hell for the sin of corruption? It is these bonds that form the meaning of the word
‘world’ for the soul when the world is said to be Mithya and not the physical world. This
is the essence of Shankara, which is misunderstood and the soul treats the physical world
as unreal! An ignorant soul thinks that these bonds are real and undergoes tensions.

At the Lotus Feet of His Holiness, Sri Dattaswami

248. Our feelings and unreal bonds of the world

A paper and pen are sufficient to give a certificate. Similarly the knowledge and devotion,
which are also made of nervous energy, are sufficient to attain the grace of God. The
attachment to wealth is also a bond like the bonds with your family members. You are
sacrificing your attachment to wealth and family members for the sake of God. Already
the wealth and your family members are the immovable and movable properties of the
Lord. For the sake of God, Shankara sacrificed the attachment to His mother and not
sacrificed the mother because she is already a part of the movable property of the Lord.
Similarly Gopikas sacrificed their families and butter (wealth) for the sake of the Lord
and here also sacrifice of their bonds is the point. All the game is only with these feelings
(bonds) which are almost unreal and not with real things. Therefore there need not be any
tension regarding the bonds. Your bonds with other souls are unreal compared with the
bond with God, just like the bonds in the drama are unreal compared with the bond with
the owner of the drama.

The dramatic bonds change from one drama to the other. Similarly the bonds with your
souls change from one birth to the other. The bond with God is real and eternal because,
even in Maha Pralaya (the final dissolution of the creation) the souls exist in God, which
are controlled by Him always. The Master-Servant bond exists always, which is the
essence of any other bond also.

249. Datta Swami answers the Scandals against Shri Sathya Sai Baba

Q. How can the reports of the scandalous actions of Shri Sathya Sai Baba be
explained?

[The question is again elaborated as below]

We recently came across a website describing the various scandals pertaining to Shri
Satya Sai Baba. Apparently there have been hundreds if not thousands of cases of alleged
(homosexual, and mental) abuse of men and young children. There have also been cases
of murder. Some of the abuse cases have firsthand witnesses or the abused persons have
themselves reported their own experiences. There are just too many cases to simply
dismiss them as rumors. If these incidents had been rare or few in number, one could
neglect them considering them to be special exceptions such as the affairs of Krishna
with the Gopikas.

Lord Rama who killed Vali from the back, which was a violation of Kshatriya Dharma
but it can be argued that He did so only to protect Sugriva who had approached Him for
help. So Lord Rama was only proving that He can even violate dharma for the sake of a
devotee who approaches the Lord. Not only, that, He also suffered the consequences of
this violation during Krishna Avatara. Lord Rama certainly did not have multiple "murder
cases" pending on him. All the other people that He killed, were killed only while
following Kshtriya dharma on the battlefield. Moreover, the people who He killed were
evil people. Thus the violations of dharma done by Rama and Krishna were only in
exceptional cases.

However in case of Shri Baba these 'exceptions' seem to be very common. If the Sadguru
who is an incarnation, abuses (mentally or sexually) or even murders a very close devotee
who is on the path of nivrutti, then it is acceptable. It can be considered as an advanced
test for an advance devotee. However based on the sheer number of Sai devotees, who
have had such experiences, it is unlikely that all these people were advanced seekers on
the path of nivrutti. This is because, at any given time, there can be only a handful of such
highly advanced devotees. Even though the abused persons believed in Him as God, they
cannot be technically said to be on the path of nivrutti. This is proved, since they objected
to the abuse; an advanced devotee like Gopikas would not have objected. This means that
the abused people were on the path of Pravrutti.

In dealing with people who are in Pravrutti, doesn't the Lord follow the rules of dharma?
If we take the example of Shri Ganpati Shachidananda Swami, we see that he
recommends rituals, chanting, singing etc. This shows that He is dealing with devotees
who are in Pravrutti. He does not show any such extremely negative qualities and does
not have any such cases pending on Him. Shri Baba too, based on His general teachings,
appears to be dealing mostly with people in Pravrutti. However His tests are so severe
that they can only be justified for the path of Nivrutti.

Even if these cases of abuse or murder are treated as tests of Shri Sai for His devotees,
how can one justify the abuse of young children who are too young to either gain any
knowledge or to understand that they are being subjected to spiritual tests? Suppose those
souls were sinners and had to undergo suffering or abuse in this life. Then they could
have got abused by anyone or died at the hands of anyone else. Such incidents are
common in the world. What is the necessity that they had to come to Shri Baba just to
exhaust their karma, which could have been done by anyone else?

The identification of a human incarnation becomes extremely complicated, if not

impossible in the case of a personality like Shri Baba. From the point of a common
ignorant man Shri Baba can either be an incarnation of a demon like Ravana or an
incarnation of God. Ravana showed many fantastic miracles, he was also a scholar of the
scriptures. But his personal behavior was extremely negative. He had sexually abused
innocent people like Vedavati, kidnapped Sita, killed innocent people and sages etc. The
only thing that could separate Shri Baba from Ravana would be Divine knowledge.
However we find that Shri Baba does not focus much on knowledge. We find many other
ordinary teachers of Vedas, who preach more extensively than Shri Baba.

How then can we distinguish between the two? If Shri Baba had preached extraordinary
Divine knowledge like Yourself, then we can argue that He is God based on this
characteristic. Once we have thus established that He is God, we can further say that
since He is God, He is above dharma. Then all His cases of abuse, murder can be
neglected. But when there is no characteristic in a personality like Him that would
doubtlessly identify Him as God, how can the rules of dharma be neglected?

Whenever a teacher subjects the student to a test, he always first gives the knowledge of
the appropriate level to the student and then tests him only at that level. Thus the Satguru
who has subjected the devotees to the most severe test has also earlier given the devotees
the highest knowledge, which will enable the student to pass the test. How can the
teacher give the knowledge of the first standard level and subject the student to a test of
Ph.D. level?

=====================
Reply from Sri Datta Swami
=====================

To answer this, only Lord Datta has to come forward. I prayed Lord Datta to answer this
through my mouth and now Lord Datta is speaking through my mouth.

I enter the human body to establish both dharma in Pravrutti as well as the path to please
Me through Nivrutti. By following the Pravrutti Dharma, the souls will not displease Me,
because the foundation of the society which is the stage for My divine play is to be
protected. I enter several human bodies at a time for various programs from time to time
according to the requirement. This type is called as Purnaavatara. I am always associated
with the liberated souls through whom My power carries on the program designed by Me.
Such liberated souls possessing the knowledge given by Me and super powers granted by
Me are called as Kala and Amsa avataras. There is no difference between My direct
incarnation and these indirect incarnations. Whether I speak directly or My speech is
delivered indirectly through cassettes is one and the same. All the spiritual preachers
propagating My knowledge are the liberated souls who serve Me in mission. These
preachers represent Me and should be respected as equal to Me. There is no difference
between Myself and these divine souls who serve Me in my mission. If any question is
raised against the cassettes played by them, I have to answer because their knowledge is
from Me only.

Each preacher has a specified cassette, which is meant to a particular level of the
devotees. The devotees of a particular level cannot concentrate in one place, since they
are scattered all over the earth. Therefore, these preachers tour all over the world and
attract the devotees of a specified level for whom only they are sent. As the level goes
down, the attracted souls increase in number because the majority of souls are at the
bottom level only. Schools are many. Colleges are few. Universities are rare. Generally
the Purnaavatara comes for Nivrutti and the liberated souls come for Pravrutti. But this is
not a rule. When the Purnaavatara comes it may concentrate on Nivrutti only like Sankara
or may concentrate on Pravrutti only like Rama or may concentrate on both like Krishna.
The liberated souls also may preach to certain specified levels in Nivrutti.

Vyasa is a Kala Avatara. Kapila is Amsa Avatara. However, I do not like to make any
distinction between Myself and the liberated souls who are My top most devotees,
serving Me in the mission. Service is the real proof for devotion.

Sri Satya Sai Baba is the reincarnation of Sri Shiridi Sai Baba, who was a Purnaavatara.
This means that there is no need to tell that Sri Satya Sai Baba is a purnaavatara. He has
started with strengthening the foundation to protect the faith of God, which is the basic
stage. For this purpose, the majority of the society is in the underground level requiring
the level of foundation only. If the foundation is not there, today no body will hear the
knowledge delivered through this Datta Swami. For such foundation, which is the faith in
the existence of God, the demonstration of a variety of miracles is needed involving the
super power, especially in the present atmosphere of scientific achievements.

Sri Ganapathi Satchidananda Swami erected walls on this foundation, which involve the
representative worship for the higher level. Once the existence of God is accepted, people
like to worship God. In this stage, the concept of human incarnation cannot be introduced
because the level of jealousy and egoism is not at all subsided in this level. People accept
God but cannot accept the human incarnation. Therefore, the human forms represented by
statues have to be worshipped so that training is given to develop the psychology to
worship the human form of the God. In course of time, during this training the jealousy
and egoism are expected to come down. Swamiji has introduced the word Datta in this
level. He told that every form represented by the statue is Datta only. Rama, Krishna etc.,
are God given (Datta) to human beings. Siva, Vishnu etc., are God given (Datta) to souls
in energetic bodies existing in the upper world. These energetic forms are also in human
structure only.

Since, these forms are not human forms on the earth; the jealousy is satisfied in the
beginning. But the human form is already introduced. Slowly the human forms on this
earth are introduced, when the jealousy comes down to the lowest level. But still since
these human forms on the earth do not exist at present, the jealousy gets pacified on this
point. I have laid the foundation through Sri Satya Sai and erected the walls through
Swamiji. Now the roof on the walls is left over which is being done through this fellow,
Datta Swami. At this level the real meaning of the word Datta is revealed, which is that
Datta is God given to the human beings on this earth through the present human form
only. Please do not misunderstand that the roof is at the highest level. The roof cannot
exist without walls and walls cannot exist without the foundation. Thus, the roof
completely depends on the walls and foundation only. Thus, the strength of this Datta
Swami is only these two human forms of God. Therefore, egoism cannot enter the mind
of Datta Swami due to this logical analysis. Without these two there is no need or
existence of this roof.

Sri Satya Sai has strengthened the human values which are the stones of the foundation.
How can He break the very human values? He is building up the spiritual foundation,
which is Dharma in Pravrutti. How can He Himself violate His own program? It is equal
to saying that Rama married several girls after losing Sita. I assuredly say that all this is
built up against Him by atheists, who are the embodiments of jealousy and egoism. How
many false witnesses are not created in the cases existing in courts? How many tricks of
photographs are not fabricated? Even in Nivrutti, Lord Krishna danced with Gopikas in
view of a special back ground only. Gopikas were sages who requested the Lord to cut
their bonds by His powerful attraction since they themselves were unable to cut their
bonds. Therefore, Krishna attracted them by His beauty and flute and forcibly cut their
bonds with their families. He stole the butter (Money) so that their bonds with money
were forcibly cut. He has done so on their prayers only. For Krishna even the dancers of
heaven will come down with immense pleasure if He gives permission by just moving
His eyebrow. Do you think that He was attracted by Gopikas who were not actually
beautiful? The Lord was attracted by their beauty of devotion.

Sri Satya Sai was pained to see even the bulls carrying the heavy loads on the carts and
was advising people not to do so, when He was a boy. Can you imagine that He has
abused children and committed murders? It is equal to saying that the fire is ice cold. If
He wishes, even the dancers from heaven will stand in line just to embrace Him for one
second. Such person is having homosexuality! One should be ashamed even to utter such
words. The hell with liquid fire is meant for such people only. Where they have to stay
forever. The human beings who are rubbing this homosexual nature on Me must have the
same very nature. Most of the human beings have the sages as their ancestors. The sages
became homosexual on seeing Rama in forest (Pumsam Mohana Rupaya…..). The gene-
characteristics naturally come down according to the present accepted concept of science.
Therefore, these human beings have got that feeling from their ancestors. For a fellow
who has red spectacles on his eyes sees the whole world as red only. Therefore, those
who have the homosexual feeling find the Lord also as homosexual.

I have met a lady in Vijayawada, who said that Swamiji called her for sex when Swamiji
visited her house. Is it believable? Swamiji has done so much intensive sadhana from the
childhood to control the senses about which I am the witness. How can anybody fool Me
by such false remarks?

The program of Sri Satya Sai was to install the faith in God and this involves majority of
the society. Therefore, the fame is inevitable. I am not fond of fame because I was bored
in the upper world with continuous praises from angels and divine sages. I come down to
the earth bored with the fame in the upper worlds. In such program the fame is inevitable.
I never try for fame. This unlimited fame naturally grows the jealousy to climax.
Therefore, such reactions come out. I keep silent to such abuses because My children
who are suffering with jealousy-fever should get some relief. Such abuses pacify their
jealousy and they gain normal health. Therefore, I am happy that my children have been
relieved from the stress of jealousy.

A dancer came to attract Me in Shiridi. She failed in the very first step. A saint came from
Himalayas and scolded Me for My involvement in the function arranged to honor Me. He
fell on My feet on seeing Me inside the body. Even the sage Udanka tried to curse Me on
the charge that I have got killed so many people in the war of Kurukshetra. Gandhari
cursed Me that I have killed her sons by cheating. Vali cursed Me for killing him hiding
Myself. The demon Hiranyakasipu was furious on Me for killing his brother. Tulasi, the
wife of Jalandhra cursed Me for spoiling her in disguise and she forgot that she was
craving for Me in the previous birth. Therefore, all these are not new to Me since the
history always repeats.

If you realize that all the incidents in this world are designed by Me only for My full
entertainment, which always needs a variety always, you will not be perturbed over these
incidents. A picture contains villain also. A meal contains chilies also. Both summer and
winter, praise and abuse, worship and insult are for the full entertainment only. In fact, I
come down to this earth in quest of chilies only because I am bored with the sweets in the
upper world. Once, I asked all My devotees in the upper world to scold Me once so that I
can have at least one hot dish because I was bored with the continuous praise-sweets. No
devotee came forward with fear. But the watchman standing before My gate came
forward to please Me with the required service. I told him that he should give one
hundred hot dishes continuously, since I cannot get those again. The watchman was born
as Sisupala and scolded Me hundred times as desired by Me. Immediately, after doing
this exceptional service, I was so much pleased to unite him in Me.

Even during scolding, people have observed Me with smile only, which indicated My
happiness on enjoying hot dish. I have created Satan who is also remunerated like the
villain booked in the cinema. If you understand My divine leela, you can never get any
disturbance. Such insults are planed with several background uses also. Even the best
devotee develops some jealousy hidden in the subconscious state of mind. Especially
when such immense fame is observed, this is inevitable. Even though the devotee is
pained, the jealousy in his subconscious state gets satisfied and thus I protect My
devotees in this way also. Such incidents also test the firmness in the faith of My
devotees. Thus, any incident in My creation is multidimensional. Such incidents of Rajas
and Tamas are fabricated and superimposed on Me due to My will only.

Then My personality looks like a multiple choice question which contains one correct
answer and three wrong answers. Your digested knowledge about Me is tested by this. Do
not forget that the wrong answers are also prepared by the same setter of question paper,
who examines you after teaching the subject. Therefore you should not misunderstand
those people who fabricated all these wrong answers to confuse your faith, which has to
be tested. I know the extent of your faith and for Me there is no need of this examination.
The examination is only for your sake because you are thinking that you have perfectly
understood the subject. The examination reveals the extent of your understanding to
yourself only. This helps you so that you will rectify the deficiency and progress further.
Thus this examination system (Datta Pariksha) is not for My entertainment based on
sadism. It is only meant for your spiritual progress. Often you think too much about
yourself and feel that you have perfect faith on Me. Due to this egoism also enters into
yourself. This leads to your fall. Only to save you, is the test conducted so that you will
realize the real position of yourself and put further efforts to rectify your deficiency. Thus
you have to understand My tests in the right direction which are totally aimed at your
spiritual welfare only.

The cases in the courts, police station and jails are not new to Me. I was born in jail when
I incarnated as Krishna. A case was filed on Me in court and I was enquired when I was
in Shirdi. In fact such insults give Me immense pleasure because such things are
impossible in the upper world. You can find Me with a radiating smile in such situations,
which indicates My full enjoyment. The souls acting as My enemies were also appointed
by Me and they are given good remuneration for performing the duties of their roles in
My service. Therefore you can never find hatred in Me. This is the secret of My constant
bliss. The Lord does some special actions in some special cases based on the requests
only in their previous births. They forget the previous births and therefore they are
worried. All the Gopikas were sages who requested Me to give the salvation. But when I
tried in that line, some were attracted but some quarreled with Me. All these have
forgotten the previous births.

In such ignorance only the real nature of the soul comes out. Otherwise all will behave in
the same way and they cannot be differentiated according to their spiritual levels. When I
killed Vali, it was justified even in Pravrutti Dharma. It was not because a devotee came
and soaped Me for doing favour to him. In that race when a brother dies, his wife
becomes the wife of the other brother (Devaran Nyaya). When Sugriva came, he thought
that Vali was killed and therefore the wife of Vali (Tara) became his wife. But when Vali
returned, he drove away his brother and made forcibily Sugriva’s wife (Ruma) to become
his wife. This is against the rule because Vali forced the wife of his brother while the
brother was alive. Vali was not even listening to what Sugriva was telling. I explained all
this to Vali at the end and he was completely convinced before his death.

His son Angada was My devotee but was pained often about the incident. To remove the
negative feeling from My devotee, I gave him a chance to kill Me in Krishna Avatara.
When the action of Rama was correct, how can He be punished? Even in Nivrutti, the
Lord will never do anything against the Pravrutti Dharma. People misunderstand the Lord
without knowing the background of the previous birth. The Lord remembers all the
previous births but not the souls (Bahuni ne –Gita). Since the devotees do not know the
background, there is every chance for them to misunderstand the Lord. Again this point is
used to test the firmness of their faith. Another secret dimension also exists. The Lord
transfers the sins of His closest devotees. Suppose some closest devotee has to be insulted
for His sin. The Lord attracts that to Him and allows the insult to take place on Him and
thus protects the devotee. Therefore every action, every word and every plan of the God
has innumerable dimensions. One should not criticize the Lord seeing Him through a
limited angle and unnecessarily accumulate the greatest sin.
When I enter the human body, there are two ways. I may enter a created human body in
the womb of My mother. Such human body also is a composite of gross, subtle and
causal bodies. The qualities in such subtle body are not accumulated from the previous
births because such a created body has no previous birth. Yet such human body contains
all the three qualities to be mixed in various proportions, required for My play and it
differs from an ordinary human being. In ordinary human being these three qualities exist
in certain already mixed proportions, which are the Vasanas from previous births.
Sometimes I enter a human body of a liberated soul, which also is a composite of those
three bodies containing all the three qualities to be mixed in various proportions as and
when My play requires. The liberated souls have the three qualities and their mixtures do
not exist due to already burnt Vasanas. Thus, there is no difference whether God enters a
created human body or the human body of a liberated soul.

Rama was the example for first case and Bala Rama was example of the second case.
Lord Narayana entered in to the body of Adisesha and therefore, Bala Rama is in equal
status with Rama in the ten incarnations. Some times, I enter the body of even an
ordinary human being who is My devotee. Parasu Rama was a sage and has the Vasana of
egoism already. When I came out from his body after My work, his vasana was expressed
in the natural way. When I killed the egoistic people through the body of Parasu Rama, I
have used his egoism which was required for My work and which already existed as a
prepared mixture. All these three are respected as equal incarnations because I existed in
all those human bodies. You are respecting Me through the human body and therefore
you should not worry about the qualities of the human body.

When I enter the human body, the qualities of the human body or Upadhi are not
changing. When the current enters the wire, no property of the wire like length, thinness
etc. is disturbed. The current flows through the wire and does its work by resolving the
fan without any disturbance to the nature of the medium. Therefore the devotees observe
the medium with its own properties without any variations even if I am present in it. I am
experienced through the medium and only the medium is perceived. The devotee must
perceive the medium and experience Me through that medium. When you sip the coffee
from a cup, you do not taste the cup but you taste the coffee from it. Ignorant people
observe the medium and experience its properties only. By the influence of such
observation of the properties of the medium, some do not experience Me and some
neglect My experience. Therefore, such a situation is the test for the knowledge of the
devotee. The devotee expects the medium to be totally different and expects that the
medium should exhibit new properties or at least should not exhibit its properties.

The devotee expects the human incarnation to live by taking the energy directly which is
a new property of the medium. At least He expects that the human incarnation should not
eat the ordinary food. A lady-devotee broke a coconut on the feet of a human incarnation!
The body of human incarnation suffered a lot for ten days with the swollen feet!

I told in Gita (Manusheem Tanum Asritham) which means that I have entered the human
body. I have not become the human body. I have become one with the human body
without changing its properties. You have to experience the current which is flowing in
the wire without changing the nature of the wire. When you touch the electric wire, you
can experience the current by shock. But if you are insulated with the cover of egoism
and jealousy, you cannot experience Me and then the human incarnation is as good as any
human being. The difference lies between God and soul existing in the human bodies.
The two human bodies are one and the same. The difference is only in the inner God and
soul. The king and beggar are different but their shirts may be one and the same. If you
cannot recognize Me and experience Me without neglecting the natural properties of the
medium, there is no other way for you to experience God because one cannot experience
God directly.

When a political leader does some good work to the country, the people are appreciating
neglecting his personal life, because he belongs to their category of souls. All the souls
constitute the opposition party, since God is the ruling party. A party neglects the defects
of their own party-members but magnifies even a trace of defect which is not even real if
there is a chance to criticize the ruling party.

If you understand the God in the cosmic form (Viswarupam), you can realize that all the
three qualities (Good Sattvam and Bad Rajas and Tamas) are created by Him only (Ye
Chaiva……. –Gita) and exist in His body only. Veda says that the creation is like His
body (Pruthivi ...Sareeram). Everyone recites “Vishwam Vishnuh” which means that the
universe is Lord. When all the qualities are seen existing in the universe, does it not mean
that these are existing in God? The basis for the bad qualities also is God. Where can they
exist leaving the basis? The human incarnation is a micro form and it is simultaneously
the macro cosmic form. Krishna appeared in micro form as a human being but showed
His simultaneous macro cosmic form (Viswarupam).

Does it not clearly mean that all the good and bad qualities are existing on the basis i.e.,
is God only? In such case, where is the feeling of hatred? Unless you go beyond the
difference between Dharma and Adharma, you cannot digest the concept of God
(sarvadharman –Gita). That which pleases God is good and that which displeases God is
bad. The hunter killed the innocent animal and offered the flesh to Lord Shiva. He was
given the final abode due to the love which is the basis. Dharmaraja did not tell a lie even
though Lord ordered. He went to the temporary heaven only. After all, the aim of
following Dharma is only to please God. How can you keep Dharma above its aim? In
the case of the souls, you have to follow Dharma and maintain the balance of the society.
If you disturb the balance, you will be punished. Demons were killed for the same reason.
But when you enter the Nivrutti, you have to keep God above Dharma.

None and nothing should be greater than Him (Na tat samah –Veda). If you cannot cross
Dharma for the sake of God, you must remain in Pravrutti. Did God force you to come to
Nivrutti? You yourself have recognized the value of Nivrutti and entered into it. It is told
that Pravrutti is expected nature of human beings, where as Nivrutti is highest
unimaginable fruit (Pravruttiresha…). Now you should not talk about Pravrutti. If you
cannot stand in Nivrutti, go back to Pravrutti. God will not stop you. If you remain in
Pravrutti, God is neutral to you since everything happens according to the constitution
and Pravrutti is only the expected behavior for which there can not be a big reward. If
you do your job, you need not be specially rewarded. He will not punish you for not
entering into Nivrutti. You can question the Lord in Pravrutti and the Lord will answer
your argument standing in the upper court. You can also point out the Lord even in
Nivrutti.

He will show the background and will submit His argument. Thus both Pravrutti and
Nivrutti come under the rule of justice only. In one birth you request for something from
God and when He gives it in the other birth, you are scolding Him. When the Gopika
desired for Lord, the Lord refused for which the Gopika became angry and scolded the
Lord. In that birth also she was a married lady. Why she neglected dharma? In the next
birth she scolded the Lord for fulfilling her previous desire criticizing that the Lord
violated the same Dharma. If she is a real devotee, she should not criticize the Lord in
any birth whether the desired fruit is given or not given or given in undesired way. This
shows that her devotion is mixed with ignorance and egoism.

250. Food ,Space and Soul - As per Veda

Food is inert matter (Annam) and on oxidation (Prana), it produces inert energy. This
energy is converted into awareness or chit. The Veda says ‘Annat purushah’. This inert
energy is transformed into soul and this inert energy maintains the entire world as cosmic
energy (Jeeva bhutam…the Gita). The Veda says that space is produced from soul. Here
soul denotes inert energy only, which is its basic form. Therefore, the space is also inert.
Otherwise space should have been a living being with awareness. According to Einstein
space is geometrical only and exists as long as matter exists. But space is geometrical
required for the waves to occupy and propagate. So, even if all the matter is converted
into energy, space can still exist. As long as space exists energy has to exist because space
is also a form of energy. Of course, if you speak of energy also in terms of matter, you
can say that space exists as long as matter exists.

The condensed energy is matter. This means energy can be diluted and so energy or space
expands. This represents the theory of constant expansion of space. In Maha Pralaya, the
design of the world exists which needs space. If only awareness disappears by destruction
of all living beings, it is called as Pralaya. If all the matter disappears leaving energy, it is
Maha Pralaya. Disappearance of matter means transformation of matter into energy.
Similarly disappearance of awareness means transformation of awareness into inert
energy. Up to this concept both God and energy exist like Father and mother. Up to this,
both inference (philosophy) and perception (science) travel together like parents. The
follower of Shakti cult (Shakteya) says that the energy itself is God and thus he is just the
present scientist. He is better than Advaitin, who says that awareness is God. Even in
Maha Pralaya at least energy exists.

Awareness disappears even in Pralaya. Of course both these become one and the same if
the awareness is also considered as energy basically. Both these depend on perception
only. They too depend upon inference, but their inference is based on perception. The fire
is inferred from smoke, because the relationship of fire and smoke is already seen
(perception) in kitchen. Therefore awareness, the inferred God by Advaitin is imaginable
and even perceivable through intricate modern instruments. Such inference is based on
perception only. The inference of God should be based on scriptures like the Veda. The
interaction of Father and mother is inferred by seeing the interaction of a couple later on.
Such inference is perception based. But the interaction of God is never perceived,
because God is never perceived since God is beyond even the imagination. Maha Karana
Pralaya represents the dissolution of energy completely, which means the disappearance
of space. The situation becomes unimaginable. The space of the dream disappears but
still the brain exists in the absolute space.

The mind (nervous energy) requires absolute space for existence. Thus existence of
absolute space (Paramavyoma) is required for the existence of God. Since no item in the
creation can stand as perfect representative of God, this problem comes. The existence of
Paramavyoma again speaks about the existence of energy in more subtle form. The
dissolution of energy to the fullest extent leads to complete unimaginable situation, which
was exactly the situation before creation. Such a great devotee leaves the science and
perception completely. He believes only in the Veda. He believes only in God as the
absolute cause every time after Maha Pralaya. Such a great devotee never falls as he
depends only on God as the root of root cause (Maha karanam). Jesus believed God in
such a way.

Shankara’s advaita is actually this concept only. An atheist cannot travel to this distance
and so He (Shankara) stopped at the concept of awareness only so that every atheist is
attracted and feels that the absolute is in him and finally he can become the absolute God.
Even the concept of Pralaya is not brought here and awareness was declared as eternal.
For the sake of a theist, awareness is eternal and remains in deep sleep and also in
Pralaya. But the atheist should realize that awareness is not present in deep sleep since
one is not aware of even the soul, which is awareness of awareness as found in
meditation. The enquiry of the source of ‘I’, which represents the fundamental
characteristic of awareness in deep sleep reveals the whole story. The inert energy is the
source of ‘I’ as realized from the analysis of deep sleep.
