Jasmine, when my boyfriend was over, he left the room with his cell phone on the couch. I was really tempted to go through his messages, is that bad? -Brittany Reyes

Ryan, whats your ideal rst date? -McKayla Mehl

Ngoc, do men have it easier than women? -Travis White

In all honesty, yes. What is the point of being in a relationship if youre not going to trust him? If you have any concerns with who he talks to, then bring it up to him for reassurance. Trust me, weve all been there before and trying to be sneaky about it will only make things worse. If youre that tempted to check, just leave the room too.

Im a pretty laid back guy, although Im very against the dinner and a movie clich. I really like outings that allow me to get to know the person as well as have some fun. Ive done hiking, bon res, big group outings can be a blast as well!

In some aspects, yes. Almost everyone have some sort of ego and the male gender projects that ego more than females. Versus our emotions where the female gender expresses herself more than males. I think we all have pros and cons, and we cant live or live without one another.

Desiree, I dont want to be in a relationship right now, but dont want to hurt my boyfriend, what should I do? -Norma Lopez

Have a question for our staff? Tweet us @StudyBreaks

Be honest with him about it and tell him. You have to think about you, even if it does hurt his feelings, if you stay in the relationship when you want out it could just be worse later, just make sure its what you want to do. Break-ups are very hard and can often get messy because there was that perfect moment to say how you really feel. Hopefully hell understand where youre coming from and respect your decision and you can still be friends.

WOMENS VOLLEYBALL
ROADRUNNERS VS. TEXAS STATE
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10 (CONVOCATION CENTER)

THE

WOMENS VOLLEYBALL
ROADRUNNERS VS. UT-ARLINGTON

SPOTLIGHT
FOUR IN THE BOOKS
The first four football contests have all shown a ton of promise. Their last game before our press date against Bacone (see inset, right) was a barnburner offensively speaking and they held them to only one late TD. The other games showed promise as well, especially the opening victory against Northeastern State. The two games bookended by their wins were both losses, but those losses were to a sneaky good McMurray team (by a very late TD pass) and a road loss at Southern Utah, a team that won five straight in Great West play last season. What is most inspiring though is the fan turnout at the Alamodome. In their first three home contests, the Roadrunners have pulled in an average of 40,631 fans. With that kind of support, this football program will certainly grow into a champion. Coach Coker indicated that the support would be palpable from Roadrunner fans, and he was exactly right. Make sure to head out to the Alamodome for the last home game of 2011 against Minot State. Go Roadrunners!
FRIED BACONE The Roadrunners have scored at least 3 TDs in each of their first four games, but the Homecoming scorefest against Bacone College has wowed us. Sean Lanno proved his legs worth with four FGs and five extra points. The offense was both explosive and efficient, with three big run plays by three different runners and a 63yard bomb TD to Brandon Freeman.

Win Streakin The Roadrunner womens soccer team pitched three shootouts and had a tie in a solid four-game span in September. THE JAMES DELGADO BAND No Limits To Their Potential

he James Delgado Band is taking the country world by storm one small step at a time. A new band recently formed these past few months, there bright ambition, and catchy vocals have set them apart from just the regular country crooners. eir youth sets them apart from many because it allows them to connect with audiences on a more personal level. e unique blend of country and blues gives them a distinct sound that will leave you wanting more! e James Delgado Band was founded by main gureheads James Delgado and Andrew Bauer. ey unconventionally met UTSA their freshman year and have been a musical duo ever since. When they decided to turn their passion for music into a career goal they knew bigger things

were headed their way. eir eclectic mix of music comes from inspirations like Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, Jack White, and Matt Bellamy. ese gentleman live by their own set of rules encouraging their fans to just Come Out and Have Fun with Us enabling them to preview a di erent take to music. As students they both are still growing, and learning to manage their time in between their studies, recordings, writing music, and working. Its this youthful spirit and energy that gives them the creativity to write their own music gaining inspiration from live shows, their audiences, and being determined to just have their sound out in the open. eir original songwriting comes from personal experiences, relationships, sex, and

learning situations that have enabled them to become their own person while still being a band. While their rst album still is untitled, they have been working diligently in the Mi Casa Studios in New Braunfels, Texas with some of the best from country music like producer Ross Smith of the Wade Bowen Band. Recording has changed their outlook on the music industry in which they realize their age and inexperience that still humbles them to learn and be better musicians. ese gentlemen have no limits to their potential and will be anticipating playing at a city near you!

E IGBOKW YOR FOR MA

HOW THIS STUDENT IS GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

William Igbokwe is the ttest candidate
words: jasmine vallejo photos: steven granados

12 | NOVEMBER 2011 | STUDYBREAKS.COM

harming. Trustworthy. Ripped. All great characteristics for the perfect politician, right? Well, those arent the only words to describe William Igbokwe. is twenty-two year old senior in college is a very goal-oriented and driven person. With aspirations of becoming Mayor of his hometown and attending law school after, William has potential that will be executed for the future. And hes starting now. Why did you make the decision to run for Mayor? I think what makes me the best option for Mayor of Jacksonville is my commitment to honoring the concerns of the citizens, my commitment to my goals as mayor and the energy and compassion that I have to ful ll all of the aforementioned. As Mayor of Jacksonville, I know I could really shake things up in a positive way and cater to the needs of all citizens, regardless of however theyve been categorized by arbitrary labels. Have you always known what you wanted to do after you nished college? Not immediately. It wasnt until this summer that I decided that Id bid for Mayor of Jacksonville in 2013. My logic is if Im an aspiring politician, why should I wait to start around the median age of what, fty? e youth shouldnt be disenfranchised from the political process in any aspect nor should it be an automatic disqualier for public o ce, especially since were next in line to inherit whatever the previous generation left for us. Id like a say in the a airs of my community as soon as possible. Do you think post-grad students have what it takes to get their experience in politics? I mean, of course. In fact, I think people should be engaging their local, state and national government earlier than that. I think its really easy for people to become disillusioned with their government when they havent established any type of relationship with government in the rst place. at opens the door up to instances where the rst time a citizen and their government have an encounter, its for an unpleasant reason. Early involvement and engagement of your government can help assuage disillusionment.

What do you hope to bring to the table while getting involved with politics? Id hope to bring the appeal of the youth participation to politics. A lot of people my age or younger feel disenfranchised from their own governments (local, state and national). In a country where the youth have so much energy and potential to o er, there is no reason that a disconnect should exist. Id like to bridge that gap between government and young people because obviously, both sides have much to gain from a strong relationship. Why do you think that gap has been present? Because our politicians neglect our youth and dont take their opinions (and sometimes their concerns seriously). So to close this gap, its on the heads of politicians to reach out to the voiceless and to our youth. What are your hobbies? I like reading current events, holding conversations about current events, debating current events, running, exercising, playing pick up games of whatever, shopping, writing, speaking in publicI mentioned I was boring earlier in this interview, right? Why are you so boring? Give me details. Im boring because I live a very routine, party free (for the most part) and drama free life. Im just under the impression that my lifestyle can be very unappealing to a lot of people in my age group. Im an introvert, for the most part. And I know sometimes we get a bad rap for being dull. Any love interest? Haha, yeah, there is one actually and shes great. Youll nd out more about her if/when we get married. In your last year in college, what would you like to do involving politics? I would like to volunteer with a campaign organization or a nonpro t organization. I really want to get my hands dirty in the local political scene and help out in any way that I can. Im not looking to make a huge impact on anything in particular. For now, I just want to learn.

COLLEGES Fittest Candidate

You want to be Americas most t congressman out there, so how would you win those votes? Well, obviously I would need to stay in shape. More importantly, Id need to pay some dues. I think soaring rhetoric from politicians can be a great thing because people need to feel inspired, especially when youre dealing with something like American politics, which can turn negative so quickly. But soaring rhetoric can turn into your worst enemy if you neglect to deliver. To win votes, Id try to energize and inspire a sizeable voting base but more importantly, Id follow that up by delivering. And delivering doesnt just mean drafting and passing legislation. I dont think civil servants are limited to the chambers of congress. Its okay for elected politicians to get their hands dirty with community service, town-hall meetings, etc. I dont believe in one dimensional political service. Have you always been interested in being t by running and working out? Lets put vanity aside. In the spring of 2002, my father has a minor stroke. I think that was the rst time I became very health conscious. While he recovered, I started researching ways to get him into healthy physical form. I introduced to him some exercises and dietary choices that I hoped would prevent him from succumbing to the effects of hypertension again. In doing so, I adopted the exercise routine to give him a support system. Later, my motivation developed into keeping myself healthy in general. Its stuck ever since. Ive heard you have some killer abs. What is your secret to staying t? I work out twice a day for a combined three hours. In the morning, I work on my abdominal muscles and wrap it up with cardio (1.5 miles and 1000 jump rope.) In the evening, I work on my upper body. I make an earnest e ort to eat well but Im in college, I cant cook and I have to desire to learn. So I watch my caloric intake and make sure it doesnt exceed more than half of what I burned throughout the day. I guess Id attribute to discipline and consistency to keeping me in shape.

How is your dad doing now? Hes doing well, thank you. I just saw him and the rest of my family members recently for my 22nd birthday. Has your father played a huge part in your life? Is he a man you would want to become? Hes played a huge role but not in the ways many would guess. Hes a very quiet and thoughtful man. So on the surface, he and I are very di erent. Where Im very outspoken and loud, hes the opposite. Hes also a very shy and patient man. Nonetheless, Ive learned a lot through my father through his actions. I dont know a more responsible or standup guy and Id be hard pressed to nd one more intelligent. I know his struggles as the rst of ten children growing up in Imo State, Nigeria and the struggles he continued to face when he emigrated to the US to make a better life for himself and his family. I have the utmost respect for him and everything hes been through. Hes taught me diligence, patience and a calculated approach to lifes problems through his actions alone. I couldnt have asked for a better father. What major issues would you focus on for college students? Well since healthcare and education often disproportionately a ect college students/youth, those two issues would be high priority in my relationship as a politician with college students. Weve discussed my beef with healthcare a bit, but I recently read an article (I think it was in the Wall Street Journal) that proclaimed that more than at any point in this nations history college students are depending on student loans to attend school. I think that says a lot of secondary education in this country and some of the problems its facing. I dont think it should cost an arm and a leg to further educate the nations brightest. Lest we forget, our college graduates will be in charge of running this country in the near future. Itd be great if they could complete and pay for school. What is one thing youd change about America? e wealth disparity in this country is disgusting and exacerbates a lot of other issues the country is currently facing. So, without a doubt, that would be the one thing I change about this

Since healthcare and education often disproportionately affect college students, those two issues would be high priority as a politician.

Where Do You See Yourself In Five Years?

God willing, Im still seeing the positive effects of having served a term as Mayor of Jacksonville followed by having just nished law school. Ill be calculating where best to apply the newly acquired skills Ive gotten from law school.

country. In fact, its a wonder that little media attention has been given to what is, quite frankly, a national crisis. An embarrassing one, actually. Imagine yourself at the age of 50. What are you doing? Ill be serving the United States government and my constituents in some form or fashion. Ill be watching my children grown into responsible, caring, young adults and rejoicing with my wife because we have the house to ourselves. Ill be maintaining a close relationship with siblings and a few close friends and Ill be rereading this interview thinking aloud wow, I was this guy thirty years ago? What do you wish you would have accomplished by then? To be a great father, a great politician, a person who put a dent in wealth disparity, who challenged the status quo on equality and dis-

crimination and a man who is still relatively t at least in the eyes of my wife. You mention wife and kids often. Are you a family oriented type of guy? Very. My immediate family members are the most important people in my life and that will never change. I want to create the same time of strong bond and connection for my children and what will be their family. What is the best advice your mom or dad has given you? If you want it, you can have it. Just work for it. And pray. -Mom What are your goals and aspirations? I have three major goals in life. e rst concerns my family, present and future. I want my parents and siblings to be proud of what

I will ultimately become as time progresses. I also want the ability to take care of my parents and siblings in any way necessary, including nancially. I want my future wife and children to be proud of the man they know, despite my personal aws. Particularly concerning my children, I want them to know that their father loves them unconditionally and that no matter what, they can come to me with whatever concerns they have. I want my children to grow into people far more progressive, accepting and loving of the world and the people in it than I could ever be. My second goal concerns my career. I want to be an e ective and trustworthy civil servant/politician that my constituents and country can depend upon. I want whatever group of people Im privileged to represent to have the utmost con dence and faith in my commitment, skills and ability to execute.

Effective and trustworthy politician is there even such a thing? eyre out there, for sure. Its just unfortunate that in todays political climate, youre only getting to hear about the sel sh and ine ective politicians. Id like for the term politician to connote positivity again, if it ever did. And the third goal? e third goal concerns my own vanity: I want to make the cover of Time, GQ and Esquire. Study Breaks has been checked o the list. anks for that. Why should they choose you to be on the cover? Well, they have no reason to select me, as of now. But down the road Id hope that because Ive impacted a substantial amount of people in a positive way theyd be compelled to tell the world that story by placing me on the cover.

HOT BARTENDER
MATT BOWMAN FIZZ BAR
Matt Bowman. 26 Hometown: Dallas Major: Architecture

words + photos: catherine kenimer

Q: What is your favorite thing about the bar?

I love the people that come to our bar. Something about Fizz seems to draw in the best from all over San Antonio. It makes my job a lot easier.

Q: What is so good about your bar?

Our bartenders, we have a very experienced sta who all love what they do. ey take a lot of pride in developing drinks and everyone has their specialty! e Fizz sta is like family and we try to extend that feeling to our patrons as well.

Q: Why do you like bartending?

I enjoy being the person on the other side of the bar. You never know what your role will need to be on a person to person basis and that challenge is always fun.

Q: Do you have a specic bartending style?

I prefer the personal approach. I enjoy knowing my customers by name and having their drinks ready on the bar as soon as they walk in. If I dont know you when you walk in hopefully I will by the time you leave.

Q: Where have you bartended before?

I actually worked as an Architect in downtown San Antonio before picking up bartending.

Q: What is the atmosphere of your bar?

Our bar is very eclectic. During the day you have complete control over the jukebox but at night, on ursday through Saturday, we have a great lineup of young local DJs who always impress the crowd.

Q: What is the best tip you have ever received?

Finish your degree! Its great to know that you dont have to go back to school.

Q: How does one properly hit on you at the bar?

e best way to hit on someone is to tell them your name and smile. O er to buy them a drink and have a decent conversation with them. If it seems to go well do not let them leave the bar without asking for their number. If you dont think about it, it makes sense.

Stop By: Fizz Bar

1218 W Bitters #105

Q: Where will you be in ten years?

I dont know... but Im ok with that.

CONTEMPORARY MEETS CLASSIC CHIC

Being able to achieve a classic, chic look is the immediate effect that happens when you enter Ann-Katrins room. Her black and white frames, bedspread, and furniture give off a very soothing vibe, but make you admire the simplicity of just using elegant colors. White owers in vases and pictures of her family in Norway adorn her room as the dcor which gives a natural beauty to her room. Her carefully place lighting above her bed and near her balcony show highlight the darker features of the room to lighten everything up. This soccer sweetheart makes a student room very unique by bringing simply elements together to makes a beautiful ambiance. Ann-Katrin Grotle Anka, 21 Hometown: Bremanger, Norway Major: Kinesiology What was your inspiration for decorating your room?

ANN-KATRIN

Target.com, 30$ I love the color, and it also comes with several colors you can switch yourself, plays IPod and radio and have very good sound to be that little.

Only 1$ IKEA.com

I wanted to have a room that was simple and clean but with cool details that makes the room me. I like things to match and work around the colors that are already there, and then decide 2-3 colors that I want to focus on. Since all the rooms in Aspen have ground colors, it was very easy to nd colors to match with. I really liked decorating this room because I love the colors that are already in here and got to use some of my favorite colors to decorate with. My room is in a black and white theme with details in silver and beige I dont like to have too many colors; I think it can make a room messy. I even made all my pictures in black and white to go with it! ese are small details, but small things like that can make the room look even more unique.
What is one item in your room that describes you?

I love living here and think the distance is not bad at all. ere is also a private shuttle that goes from Aspen to campus every 30 min, and it is very convenient if you dont want to deal with the parking on campus.
How is your color scheme a reection of you?

I like colors that match and that look classy so I dont really like to use strong colors. is also reects my clothing style, which is similar. Id rather use ground and soft colors and pimp it up with details or accessories.
What was the vibe you were trying to achieve?

e soccer ball in gold. Soccer is my passion, so the ball was a way to have soccer as a detail to it.
How close are you to campus? Magazine Holder
10$ Ikea.com

I wanted to make my room look classy and chic with comfortable colors. Ive also tried putting details that makes it more personal. Im from Norway and people focus a lot on decorating and how things go together there, so think Ive brought with me a lot from home when decorating this room.
If there was one thing you could put in here that you dont already have what would it be? Why?

It takes like ve minutes with car, which is nothing!

I would put in a shelf or a storing solution for my school stu to go in, and that would hide the printer and wires under my desk.

BEARDS
November is made for No Shaves. But its important to stay on the ruggedly groomed side of things, as opposed to shaggy, unkempt, possibly-a-grad-student-orhomeless-person-or-both. No one wants that side. No one.

WOODEN ACCESSORIES
We Wood Watch on Kembrel While youre doing the whole au natural thing with your face, might as well go whole hog and get some accessories that evoke the forests. We Wood watches are designed well, work perfectly, and, best of all, are endlessly fun to play with during a boring lecture.

BEER ACCOUTREMENTS
Glass Growler from West Elm Beer is always awesome. But it seems to be magically more awesome when its presented beautifully. Like in a vintage college beer stein. Or clad in the arms of a mysterious waitress. Or in artful glassware, like this growler. Something that classes up Natty Bo? That is a must-have.

BEAUTIFUL BOOKS
Atlas of Remote Islands on Amazon Before the universe invented Wikipedia, there were things called encyclopedias. They were big and had lots of information in them. And would you believe that they still make them! And other books, lled with fascinating facts! That you can read! And learn things! And impress people with your quaint studious lifestyle!

I go for casual clothes that look nice and are comfortable.

I like comfort and keeping it simple.

SMOKING JACKETS
Not that kind of smoking! Were talking old school cigar gent here, though tobacco isnt necessary to feel like a polished Gatsby as you loaf around your castleer, closet-sized dormroom.

WHAT NOT TO WEAR

ON CAMPUS

CUFFLINKS
The holidays are lled with annoying reasons to put on a scratchy and uncomfortable suit. At least you can stay connected with these cufinks. Every man needs a nice pair they turn the old penguin suit into something unique. And just think of the espionage possibilities.

No guido look, leave the hair gel and afiction at the Jersey Shore. Do not, we repeat, do not wear your school color with more of your school color. You can have school pride without being tacky. Unless you are Lil Wayne (and even then it is questionable) do not wear jeggings and/or girl jeans. Wake up ve minutes earlier and go to class in clothing items other than pajamas.

COLOGNE
Mens Tobacco and Whiskey Cologne from OrvisMen like women to smell lke cupcakes and icing; women like men to smell like, well, a man. Save the oral musky scents for cloudy mall stores - dab some Whiskey cologne on and get ready for some serious swoons in your direction.

UMBRELLA
Merde Il Pleut Umbrella on raindropsto.com Just because its grey, and raining, and sad, and dreary, doesnt mean you have to become lost in a sea of despairing and uncreative cheap black umbrellas. Pack something with an attitude and a sense of humor. (If you dont know what it says, ask a friend majoring in French)

Youre a man. A tough guy who scoffs at the idea of cooking because cooking is for wussies. Or is it? Studies show (and by studies, we mean picking the brains of the SB staff) that a man who can cook will get you to first base, but cooking well gives you a 75 percent higher chance of getting laid. Yup, all the way to third base. Unfortunately, the male gender has a difficult time putting patience and TLC in to a home cooked meal. If youre in a rut to impress a girl or simply just tired of your daily Whataburger runs, check out these recipes for a hearty and easy to fix meal thats sure to impress.
