1.1.1. WhatisMindMapping?
Mindmapissimplyavisualizationtoolwhichhelpsyouthinkandlearnmoreproficiently.A
mindmapisagraphicdiagramusedtorepresentyourthoughtsandideas,tasks,orotheritems
linkedtoacentralkeyideaortheme.Itisusedtogenerate,visualize,structureandclassify
ideas.Mindmapsareusedasanaidinstudy,organization,problemsolving,anddecision
making.MindMappingisthemosteffective,brainfriendlywayforyoutoturnyour
unorganized,linear,fleetingideasandthoughtsintoastructured,visualmap.MindMap
representsthebestofbothworldsbyresemblingthevisualaspectsofaflowchartandthe
organizationalstructureofanoutline.

Mindmapisanimagecentereddiagramthatrepresentssemanticorotherconnections
betweenportionsofinformation.Bypresentingtheseconnectionsinaradial,nonlinear
graphicalmanner,itencouragesabrainstormingapproachtoanygivenorganizationaltask,
eliminatingthehurdleofinitiallyestablishinganintrinsicallyappropriateorrelevantconceptual
frameworktoworkwithin.

Mostoftenthemapinvolvesimages,words,andlines.Theelementsarearrangedintuitively
accordingtotheimportanceoftheconceptsandtheyareorganizedintogroupings,branches,or
areas.Theuniformgraphicformulationofthesemanticstructureofinformationonthemethod
ofgatheringknowledgemayaidrecallofexistingmemories.

Theprocessofgettingyourthoughtsorganized.
Theabilitytoarrangeinformationfrommanysourcesinalogicalorderhasbecomethesingle
mostimportantfactorforbusinesssurvivalinthemodernworld.
Theoldlinearpatternofthinking,byreadinganddescribingfromlefttorighttoptobottom
createsmanyproblemswhenitcomestoorganizingtheinformationwereceive.Onereasonis
thatmuchofourinformationinputcomesthroughoursenseseyes,ears,etc.Thenthe
informationhitsthebrain.
Thehumanbrainhasleftandrighthemispheres,eachwithitsownnatureandfunctions.We
haveanincredibleabilitytoprocessinformationwhichinitiallyappearstohavenopatternor
order.Thismakesthethinkingprocessverypowerfulbutitalsomakesitverycomplex.
Thebraincanprocessvisualinformationinahighlyefficientlymanner.Thismeansthat,ifyou
can'see'yourthoughtsinsomewaysuchasamapyoucanunderstandandreorderthe
relationshipsbetweendifferenttopics.

1.1.3. WhataretheBasicPrinciples?

Thebasicprinciplescanbedefinedas:

Thinkasyouwork.Thismeansgettingideasdownonthepage,withoutmuchconcernfor
hierarchyandflowinthebeginning.
Breakbigtopicsintotheirlogicparts,andcreatetheseassubtopics(branches).
IftherearelogicalflowsinaMapprocess,reflecttheminthestructureoftheMap.This
maymeansometimesgoinglinearinsteadofradialwiththeMapdesign.
Addnotes,iconsandgraphicstomaketheMapasinformativeaspossible.Ifyouaddnotes
asyouthinkofthem,you'relesslikelytoforgettheinformationlater.
If a Map is for a project plan, add schedule information to create clear time frames for
appropriatetopics.

RemembertosaveandbackupimportantMapfiles.Mappingisaniterativeprocesswhich
meanstheideasbuildandgrowfromotherideas.'Brainstorming'cangenerateabrilliantset

AfteryouhavecreatedanewMindMapandenteredthenameofthemaintopicfortheMap,
yournextstepistoaddthefirstlevelofbranchingtopics.Thesemaybethemajortasksfora
project,orthemainpartsofaprocessorplan.

Bedefault,newtopicsarecreatedassubtopicoftheselectedtopic.IftheTitleisselected,each
addedtopicwillbecomethefirstleveltopics.Ifafirstleveltopicisselected,theneachadded
topicwillbeasecondleveltopic.

Toaddtopics,simplyselectaTopicbyclickingoncewiththemouse.Theselectedtopicwill
haveadottedoutlinearoundittoshowthatitisselected.Thenyoucanchooseanyofthe
followingmethods:
PresstheSpaceBar.Anewbranchwillappear.Nowyoucanstarttyping
