Book driving test appointment: The firs t s tep towards getting a full licens e is to book tes t appointment for your Theory tes t exam. You need to book tes t at a tes t centre neares t and mos t convenient to you. You can book tes t either online, on telephone or even by pos t. Theory tes t appointments can be booked, and s ubject to three clear working days notice, be changed and cancelled us ing the online booking s ervice or the telephone. You can als o download an application form and apply by pos t. Before you can take your theory test you will need to make s ure you have a valid provis ional driving licens e. You can apply for a provis ional driving licens e from the Driver and Vehicle Licens ing Agency (DVLA). The application form (form D1) can be obtained from your local Pos t Office. Once you have a valid provis ional driving licens e you can book your theory tes t. Waiting times vary from region to region, but the target is that 95 percent of theory tes t candidates receive an appointment date within two weeks of their preferred date. To book tes t online and telephone you will need A valid UK provis ional driving licens e A valid debit or credit card for payment (Vis a, Mas terCard, Delta, Vis a Electron, Switch/Maes tro and Solo cards are accepted) To book theory tes t by pos t you will need an application form. Application forms are available online or on reques t from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) booking line. Payment can be made by cheque or pos tal order, but cas h payments are not accepted. Prepare for DSA tes t: After your driving theory test appointment has been confirmed you need to prepare for your driving test. The tes t cons is ts of two s ections : 1. The Multiple choice parts : The multiple choice part s ection of the DSA tes t is des igned to tes t your unders tanding of the theory behind driving. The ques tions in each multiple choice tes t in DSA tes t vary according to the category of vehicle you're hoping to obtain a licens e for, i.e. a motorcycle driving test will contain s pecific ques tions that don't appear in any other DSA tes t. A ques tion and s everal ans wer options will appear ons creen and you have to s elect the correct ans wer to the ques tion by touching the s creen. Some ques tions may require more than one ans wer. You can navigate between ques tions and 'flag' ques tions that you want to come back to later in the tes t. 2. The Hazard perception part: This s ection of the DSA tes t des igned to tes t your awarenes s of potential hazards while driving. You'll be pres ented with a s eries of 14 video clips each about a minute long, which feature every day road s cenes . In each clip there'll be at leas t one developing hazard and you need to click the mous e when you s ee a hazard developing. The videos feature various types of hazard, s uch as road conditions , vehicles and pedes trians . The earlier you s pot a hazard developing that may require the driver to take s ome action, the higher the s core. There are 15 s coreable hazards in the tes ts and candidates can s core up to 5 points on each hazard.
