First things first:
The first thing to do before installing and/or using any plug-ins for karaoke files is to make sure the WinAmp preferences are pre-set for it
all to work. Also to make things work easier and better you should enable your Windows Explorer or My Computer to enable you to see
and find the necessary file types. Some folks haven’t enabled their Windows Explorer to do this and can cause confusion later on.
If you have this already, skip this step and go to Setting Up WinAmp Preferences.

File Types Viewing In Windows Explorer

Because there are many Windows platforms, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, and XP, Windows Explorer is opened in many
different ways. For this example, we are basing it on Windows XP.

1. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer.

2. Then select Local Disk (C:)
3. Then click on Tools in the top menu bar.
1. At Tools, click on Folder Options as shown.
2. Then click on “View” as shown.
3. Be sure that there are check marks in the boxes as shown here and that under “Hidden files and Folders”, DOES NOT HAVE a
check mark in the box beside “Hide extensions for known file types”. You need “Show Hidden files and folders” checked.
4. Now click on the “Apply to All Folders” button.
5. Now click at the bottom right the “Apply” button first before you click on the “OK” button. You must apply or else the settings
won’t set.

Now you should be able to see all file extensions at end of file names. This will become important when
manually looking for files with extensions .zip, .mp3 and .cdg later on.
Setting WinAmp Preferences
Preferences set-up in WinAmp
Showing here is the “Classic” WinAmp player skin. If
you are using the other one, the same applies.
Run WinAmp then go to Options menu. To get to the
Options Menu go to top left corner of player and right
click. A drop down menu will appear as shown on the in
picture on the right.

Now go to Preferences as shown and another menu box

will appear as shown below.

Under File Types you

can select all or only
certain file types that
will be opened only in
WinAmp.
It is recommended that
you press the “All”
button. If you do not
select ALL, then you
need to select which
ones you do want to
have WinAmp be the
main player for those
file types. Be sure, in
this case, that you
select mp3 and wav at
the very least.
Be sure to have the
boxes selected, as
shown in picture to the
right, with check marks
in them.
Now close this window
and close WinAmp.
Where to get Karaoke Plug-ins?
WinAmp Plug-in Installation General Notes
Before installing any plug-in:
1. Do not have WinAmp running while installing any plug-in
2. Be sure to run installation into the appropriate plug-in folder(s)
3. Be prepared to reboot your system before trying plug-ins. Not always necessary but may be a good practice
in making plug-ins registering in your Windows registry.
Don’t have too many similar plug-ins installed as they may cause conflicts with each other and there may
not be satisfactory results.

WinAmp Site
The majority of WinAmp plug-ins can be downloaded from the WinAmp site. This is the same site from which you
can download the WinAmp player, if you don’t already have it.
For karaoke plug-ins, you have a number of choices depending on the type of what is generally termed as a
karaoke file. Most often folks want to play karaoke files, which are located on their hard drive. Some want to play
from a karaoke disc and others want to play from .zip files, located on either their hard drive or external media.

Plug-in for mp3+G (mp3 and Cdg files)

Allows for you to play CDG files along with mp3's and other supported formats. Just place the CDG file in the same
folder as the music file, and a window will open up that displays the words of the mp3 song playing.

Tempo Pitch Speed Plug in

For added flexibility in adjusting karaoke to your voice and style, there is a wonderful plug-in to change pitch,

Karaoke in Zip Files

Currently, the only simple program that I know that will play karaoke (cdgs) zip files is Sax & Dotty’s Zip Player.
When installed it acts as a plug in with WinAmp. Within this simple program there is a key changer and tempo
controller.
Other software is available for those that are karaoke show DJ’s. Sax & Dotty’s Show Presenter is one of many
available. If you want a full-blown program for this there are other better routes and software than what is being
presented here.
Sax & Dotty’s Zip Player will download from here: S & D Zip Player. (*This link will start the download)

Karaoke in Zips (Sax n’ Dotty’s Zip Player)

Currently the only easy to use program that I know of that can play zip files with the mp3 and cdg files, is Sax & Dotty’s Zip Player. This
application acts as a WinAmp plug-in. However, you have to start Sax n’ Dotty’s Zip Player first. It won’t work properly if WinAmp is
already running. It will, upon starting, load itself and then the WinAmp player.
*It can be downloaded from here: Sax & Dotty’s Zip Player (*this link will start the download automatically)
This is a separately installed program and will access WinAmp to play zip files that contain both the mp3 and cdgs files. Just follow the
installation instructions to install.
