Substitute candy this holiday season with individual size bags of pretzels or Goldfish. Here is a great website for all ages dealing with weather, tornadoes, lightening, etc. It is very kid friendly and interesting!

Count, read, and write to 50

First grade is an important time for students to develop good study habits. Take a few minutes 2-3 times a week to review the Important words to Know section of this newsletter. Your child will be seeing these words on 9 weeks tests and end of year SOL tests. Make flash cards, help your child act out the definitions, make a rhyme, connect the words with something familiar.

Sentence Writing: When your child is writing a sentence, encourage him/ her to think of the entire sentence before writing each word. Between words, he/she should leave a space. After writing the complete sentence, your child should reread it to check for: proper capitalization (uppercase letters should not be used unless they are needed); spaces between words but not in the middle of words;

Review past important words to know: *citizenship *patriotic *Washington Monument *Statue of Liberty *edible *more, less, equal, greater, least, fewer
