Melody writing 2 Using an Outline

Another approach to melody writing is to use an outline. In this approach you decide on important notes that t nicely together, or perhaps with a given chord esquence. Then you ll in extra notes to create full melodic phrases. In the example here, we have a simple diatonic chord sequence in C MAJOR

The notes in RED are all notes from the given chord and mark out the "outline"

C major

A minor

E minor

F major

Below is the same outline with notes lled in around the outline. In this example a simple melodic motif is used - a short musical phrase.
