As a Christian ethics student, having learned of values and principles that govern our day to day life and

also as a law student we find that the framers of the new constitution of Kenya had thought critically of values and principles and included them in the new draft. In my analysing of the new constitution I found various section talking about values.

In chapter 2 section 10 it is all about national values and principles of governance. Part 1 talks about who are expected to abide by these values. It talks about all state organs state officers, public officers and all persons whenever any of them applies or interprets the constitution, enacts, applies or interprets any law or makes or implements public policy decisions. Part 2 gives example of national values and principles they include patriotism the rule of law democracy human dignity equity good governance transparency e.t.c In its context the constitution also talks about human rights ,they include right to life, right to liberty an others. In the chapter of human rights there is a section talking about abortion. The issue of abortion even though people do debate about it is not a value that should be upheld with pride. The issue of abortion, was carefully considered by the framers of the constitution and yet again they did the upholders of values proud by not including it in the constitution even under severe pressure. All this shows us that the constitution of Kenya is an instrument that was used to uphold the principles and values. With values being included in our constitution it shows their importance to us and the whole of human race. In conclusion these values should and must be upheld for Kenya as a state to have future, the future generation should be born and grow in a community with values. Their enforcement should not be taken lightly as they can appropriate good things on a biological level: nourishment contributes to their physical being. They can do the same on a psychological level: a friendly emotional environment lets the child blossom. Or, on an intellectual level: instructions received in school can make a person rich in knowledge. Or on a spiritual level: openness to grace is the key to heavenly wisdom. In all these processes, the pattern is the same: intelligent and free persons appropriate good things, and when symbiosis between persons and good things takes place, the persons are enriched; to a small degree, they may become perfect. All this leaves us Christians to uphold and try to show the way for people to follow on values, in our respective communities.
