VOLCANO
PROJECT
For the last project of the year, you will research, report on, and create a
model of a famous volcano. You will present your volcano to the school on
Wednesday, June 11th during main lesson and your volcano must erupt!
You will research and work alone on your report for your volcano, however
you will have a partner to work with to build a volcano, which will take
place outside of class. In addition, you will create a poster to help present
your volcano. The following are the major benchmarks for the project:

Research Report
Your research report should include the following items:

A general overview and history of the volcano

When it last erupted and/or famous/recent eruptions
Legends of the volcano from local lore
The type of volcano and its stages of formation
Other interesting facts or information about the volcano

The report should be clearly written in your own words and should include
a list of sources that you used. It should also include a minimum of 3

paragraphs. If you want to quote something from a source, use quotations

marks and reference the source in parentheses. Your report should be
between one and two pages double spaced using 12 point Times New
Roman Font. At least 1 outside source is required and 2-3 sources are
recommended. It is even better if you can have different types of sources,
such as a periodical (encyclopedia) and an Internet site. You will keep track
of your research on the RESEARCH BRIEFS provided which will be
turned in with your research report.
Model of your Volcano
You will construct a scale model of your volcano with a partner. Your
platform of your volcano must be a maximum size of 30x30, although
may be smaller than this. The materials you use are up to you but it should
be something that can be kept easily in the classroom and will not spoil or
decompose.
Your volcano must erupt. We will be erupting the volcanoes outside and
your volcano must erupt in a safe manner. No fireworks are allowed. You
must give a proposal to Mr. Kinney on how you plan to create your eruption.
There are several different types of volcanoes. The principle types include
the Lava Dome, Cinder Cone, Shield, and Composite volcano. A partial list
of famous volcanoes is included for you to choose from.
