1 Basic Gameplay
There are a number of things that have changed between F.E.A.R. and Project Origin, this portion of the guide will be devoted to helping veterans and newcomers alike get used to the mechanics of the game. Most of these mechanics are explained via tutorial or in the instruction manual so if you have problems you can consult those. - Always keep in mind that your protagonist isnt made of steel like the ones in most modern FPS games. Since neither your health nor armor regenerates youre going to be careful in firefights. Make constant, liberal, use of your slo-mo abilities to avoid being hammered by enemy gunfire. - In that same vein keep your eyes open for health pick-ups. They come in two varieties: medical packs you can carry around and medical injectors that are stationary. You can only carry up to three medical packs when used these will fully restore your health. The medical injectors can be used by walking over them or activating them. These will restore your health to full before disappearing. Always try to use any of the nearby injectors before using up your limited medical packs. - Upgraded from the last game you can now carry around four weapons which gives you the ability to carry weapons for many different scenarios. Generally its a good idea to carry at least one automatic weapon (sub-machine gun or assault rifle), a shotgun for close range encounters, a special weapon (usually the Hammerhead) and a sniper rifle for long range firefights. - Early on in the game ammo for the sub-machine gun and combat shotgun are pretty plentiful. Later on you will find more ammo for the assault rifle and assault shotgun so those are the ones you want to hold onto at those points. The pistol should never be held onto for any longer than it takes you to find a new gun to replace it. Early on its good to hold onto the sub-machine gun and the assault rifle if you have the opportunity. - Armor pick-ups are incredibly sparse in later levels so it becomes pretty necessary to ensure that you dont get hit any more than needed. If you find yourself getting hurt then make sure that you wait until your health is very low before you use a medical kit. - Many of the environments in FEAR 2 are much more open than in the previous game. However due to this it can get a bit confusing navigating through them at times. Generally speaking this game is almost entirely linear. This means that any side paths that you see are likely alternate paths to the same destination as the main road or they have weapon/armor/intel pick-ups in them. This means that if you want to avoid getting lost and turned around just stick to the path laid out before you. - About 75% 80% of all the intel pick-ups in the entire game are pretty much right in your path. So if you arent obsessed with getting every achievement as you go through the game then dont bother searching for any extra intel. You will get three achievements / trophies without much difficulty.

2 Combat Strategies
Combat is possibly one of the most changed aspects of FEAR 2. There have been a small number of tweaks made to the fighting that makes the game considerably different. The rule of thumb in the last game was slo-mo + shotgun equals massive death for all foes but that is definitely not the case in this game. - The first and most important change is that of the new cover system. Most objects in the environment can be manipulated with the action button to turn them into cover. Tables will be flipped, rolling tables will be slid into the middle of the corridor and car doors can be opened. Since FEAR doesnt have a true cover system simply ducking behind the object is often good enough to get a fair bit of coverage from it. - The enemies will also use the cover system but they seem to have some serious issues with it. For example soldiers will sometimes flip a table and then simply stand there, seemingly totally ensured that they are covered by it. They also dont seem to understand that a pillar that has been destroyed by gunfire is no longer good cover. - Another issue with the AI is that it just isnt very smart. Where the AI in the last game was seriously good at flanking and drawing you out the enemies in FEAR 2 are simply ridiculously accurate and very damaging. I suppose this is a way of making up for the silly mistakes that the AI makes. - Melee and close combat isnt nearly as effective in this game as it was in the last FEAR title. Generally speaking youre better off only using a shotgun in tight tunnels or hallways. Otherwise youre better off spraying ammo towards the enemies faces from as far a distance as you can hit them. - Never fire more ammunition than needed to kill an enemy. The amount of ammo you get for picking up a dropped gun will almost never equal what youve spent if you just unload a clip on someone. Aim for the head, use slo-mo and stop shooting once theyre dying. This is especially true when using rare but powerful guns like the Hammerhead. - Contrary to what your common sense might tell you keeping a sniper rifle on you at all times is actually a pretty good idea. Whereas in most shooters youre up to the mercy of the enemies movements and your ability to snipe while moving to kill enemies you have the assistance of slo-mo in FEAR. This means you can slow the game down, zoom in and one-shot kill an enemy with a bullet to the face with ease. Just slide out of cover as you start the slow motion, zoom in, shoot the enemy in the face and retreat behind cover. - The Napalm Cannon, Plasma Gun and Hammerhead are all incredibly powerful weapons but their ammo is seriously limited. Both the Napalm and Plasma Guns are one shot kills but ammo is incredibly restricted. Make use of them, get the requisite trophies / achievements and then get rid of them once the ammo is exhausted. This is especially true with the Plasma Gun which is very powerful and can wipe out a room full of enemies in a matter of seconds. The Napalm Cannon however is fairly inaccurate.

3 - Weapons
The weapons in FEAR are pretty much identical to the weapons found in the previous game with a few minor changes. However down to the last weapon they seem to be a bit more effective at battling the enemies in your path except for the pistols. Pistol - There is no reason in the entire game to ever use this weapon. Its weak, slow to fire, slow to reload and just generally a poor choice. Just replace it ASAP. Sub-Machine Gun - For the first half of the game or so this will be your default weapon. Rapid fire, decent sized clip and fair stopping power makes this a reliable weapon for most of the game. Its only weakness is that your aim goes nuts if you open fire on full auto. So be sure to use the three-shot mode or fire in short bursts. Either one works wonders against enemies. Assault Rifle - The assault rifle is a much stronger sub-machine gun with an actual scope. This means you can zoom in on enemies and kill them much easier than normal. A few pops into an enemies head will kill most foes. Its suggested that you set this to the three-shot mode since you can waste a lot of ammo otherwise and the clip is on the small side. Hammerhead - For all intents and purposes the Hammerhead is a much more dangerous version of the assault rifle. It has a fairly small clip and it doesnt scope as well as the assault rifle does but it does a fair bit more damage. It only takes three headshots to kill even the stronger of the enemy soldiers. With slow motion going this is so easy to do that it makes killing enemies a breeze for as long as the seriously limited ammo in the gun holds out. Combat Shotgun - Its sad when you can say that the best trait to a weapon is how it reloads but that is the case with this weapon. The combat shotgun deals good damage but the scatter is a bit too wide on the shots. The fact that it reloads shell by shell means that if you reload after each shot your reload time is incredibly low and allows non-stop killing. Automatic Shotgun - More power, tighter spreads on your shots and a quicker firing rate means that the automatic shotgun is better than the combat shotgun in every way. However since it reloads on a full clip basis youre better off firing most of your shots before reloading. Otherwise youre just wasting time, something you dont want in the middle of a gunfight. Laser - The laser fires a powerful beam of energy that drains power rapidly and damages enemies right through their armor. Aim at a heavily armored foes face and watch how fast they die. It reloads slowly and the ammo goes away quickly but you can wipe out an entire roomful of enemies without much difficulty.

Sniper Rifle - This is probably the best weapon in the entire game. It fires shot pretty quickly and each shot is a one shot kill waiting to happen. With the weaker soldiers if you hit them in the body then theyre a one-shot kill but it actually takes a headshot to kill the stronger enemies. Its amazing how many enemies you can slaughter in short order with this gun. apalm Cannon - This flamethrower type weapon doesnt actually fire streams of flame. It fires off bursts of what seems to be napalm that will burn almost all enemies to death with just one shot. The projectile moves rather slowly so you will have to lead the target as theyre moving. The rate of fire isnt that great, the range isnt great and the reload is absolutely horrible. Missile Launcher - This should be an item you always carry with you while out on the city streets. Use this on any power armors or mechs you encounter and the fights will be exponentially easier. It only takes four rockets on the normal difficulty to take out any of the mechs and you dont even need to use the shock grenades. Prototype Energy Weapon - Plasma Gun - There are only two of this weapon in the game, only about 15 shots in total. But each shot can wipe out several enemies if theyre in close proximity to each other. Its pretty insane to see the devastation you can wreck on a group of enemies with one shot of this. The range is pretty good but the projectile moves pretty slowly so be aware of that. Frag Grenade - This is your basic throw it and watch it blow enemies to hell grenade. Just remember that you can hold the grenade and cook it before throwing it. This reduces the time that the soldiers have to respond to the grenade in their midst. Otherwise they will more than likely run away from the grenade before it has a chance to hurt anyone. Shock Grenade - Shocks work almost entirely identical to the Frags except for the fact that they explode in a larger radius and paralyze all enemies in the area instead of hurting them. Using this with a sniper or assault rifle and slo-mo enables you to wipe out large groups of enemies easily. Just remember to keep a few for when a fight against a mech comes up. Incendiary Grenade - Think Frag grenade but instead of hurting enemies it sets them on fire. Its radius of explosion isnt very good though which reduces its effectiveness. While enemies who are on fire are easily killed the small explosion is really, really bad at setting enemies on fire. Proximity Mine - This weapon is pretty much exclusively for when fighting the powered armors or the giant mechs. Drop a few in the path of the enemy and watch them kill themselves trying to get to you. However the regular soldiers will almost never walk into the path of these mines purposefully unless you are very sneaky (like hiding it just around a corner).

4 Walkthrough
This walkthrough doesnt give you the locations of every collectible however Reflex Injectors right in your path will be noted. Generally speaking this guide assumes that you are carrying a shotgun, automatic weapon, sniper rifle and missile launcher at all times. If your load out is different then you might have to use different strategies. 4.1 Interval 1: Premonition 4.1.1 Chapter: Sanctuary The game starts out with you in some bizarre red world that appears to be the ruins of a city. As you get up a girl in a red dress is standing there, staring at you. Start making your way down the street, following her appearances, until you reach a hole in the ground glowing a bright yellow color jump on in.

You will awaken inside of a conspicuously empty APC with only a music box playing. Take note of this thing, its going to be important later on in the level. Shortly you will have an entire squad of soldiers chattering inside of the APC and letting you in on whats going on with the game at the moment. It is eventually decided that you and Redd will be going to the front door to take Genevieve Aristide into protective custody. Once youve been deployed take some time to familiarize yourself with the controls and such before heading for the front doors. You will realize that theyve been blocked off so youre going to need to find another means of entry. Directly to your right is what appears to be a coffee shop or something, the door is unlocked so head inside.

Once youre inside your team begins to report that you arent alone in here and that the staff of the building have been shot dead. Sounds like fun awaits upstairs.

Head to the back door of the coffee shop and hop over the railing, the stairs going up are blocked. Go through the door and out a second door to be reunited with your squad after crouching under a grate. After some talking everyone will decide to head on up to the penthouse to go after Aristide. A little incident at the elevator cuts the trip short, leaving only you and Stokes to go on up. Take a look out at the city as you go up, its a pretty startling sight compared to most first person shooters. As soon as the elevator doors open you will see an enemy that Stokes promptly takes out. There is another enemy down the stairs on the left side and a second that will come out the door to the right. They both go down pretty easily but be mindful as you dont have access to the series signature slow motion just yet. Simply using the iron sights and taking body shots is enough to down the enemies for the time being.

Grab ammo from the dead bodies before following Stokes through the door that the soldier came through. There are more enemies out here a few on the lower levels and one up above who conveniently stands near an explosive canister take cover and try to get them as they come out. If you get too hurt there is a health injector on some crates near the door you entered from but it shouldnt come to that even on harder difficulties. Stokes is a pretty good shot and they arent so the odds are stacked against them.

Pick up all the ammo you can from the dead bodies before heading to the far end of the area where Stokes is near a fence. As you near she opens up the fence and door behind it, sending you off into the next area all on your lonesome. *sigh* Always by yourself even though you have a squad with you, how sad. Anyways head through the next few hallways and you will be told, by the tutorial, how to sprint. See that chopper flying around outside the windows? Run!

Youre safe when you reach the far end of the hallways near the red painted walls and the double doors. Head to the right side of the room here to find a door that leads you into a maintenance area of the building. Hop over the low wall, grab the health kit and open the next door. As you enter this room you will find some Frag grenades, armor and some enemies that are going to be coming after you. These guys dont seem to use grenades yet so youre fairly safe letting them come to you instead of rushing out at them.

The enemies begin to attack as soon as you try to leave the little hallway that you start of in so you can pull back and take them out as they come to you. You can even use some grenades if you feel so inclined. On higher difficulties if you find yourself having problems with this concept you can rush across the room to the windows, break them and use the outside area as a second area to move around in while fighting. Once theyre all dead head to the far end of the room and go through the right door, the one that looks like it was blown open. Continue forward but slow down once you reach an outdoor area after opening a door, there are more enemies here. Grab up the ammo and grenades before moving forward slowly, two will come down ropes from above you.

Take them out and press forward quickly or you will get pinned down by enemies moving in on your position. The problem here is that the position that you start off in has too many angles you can be attacked from so if you stay there youre just beginning to be hurt. Try to get up the stairs and go to the small booth area straight across from you, you can use the walls as cover from the enemy gunfire. This isnt terribly hard but the damage can stack up pretty quickly on higher difficulties.

After killing the initial enemies start to move forward. As you go further into this area some more enemies will come out from the area near the bar. Its pretty easy to take cover from these guys and they will rush you pretty carelessly even on harder difficulties. If youd like you can cook a grenade as a present for them once they get within range of you throwing it at them. Once youve taken them out the area is clear.

Head to the far side of the bar area, turning to the left to find some gates that are partially rolled up, head under them. Go through the next door to find some ammo lying in front of you which means there are more enemies in here. You cant sneak up on them even if you crouch and move down the ramp slowly so youre going to have to just do it gung-ho. Throwing a grenade over the wall before running down the ramp to engage them usually works pretty well for startling and killing them. Once the first few are dead some more will come from the rear. They will often take up places on the far side of the room with one running to the right, to hide near the freezers behind some cans. Get the ones closest to your position first before you start creeping into the room. Remember to stay low and aim high, shooting enemies in the chest kills them pretty quickly at this point. Pick up the ammo from the bodies and make sure to grab the medical kit from the back area. After some more radio chatter from your squad you find yourself in a small square room with a medical kit and some enemy chatter from outside. There is an enemy sniper on the rooftop across from you who wont notice you unless you go for the door or try to exit through the window. Just stay crouched and slowly move out so that you can see him, zoom in and shoot him in the head a few times to take him out.

Climb out the broken window now and leap to the window cleaners trolley. From there sprint right across it and leap off the other side before it topples enough to make the jump any harder than it needs to be. 10

Walk along the edge of the building being sure to crouch so you can enter the vents. Make your way through them, out into a room and enter the pool area. Looks a little strange though. Not much to be done except walk through the middle of the water towards the Lets pretend that never happened. There are no enemies here, all you can do is head towards the master bedroom (the doors are wide open). You can find Alma hiding around the area if you keep wandering around but nothing else. Keep making your way forward through the master bedroom area, into the closet looking door and continuing onward. As you see a bust you will find yourself in a much more open area and there are enemies here, yay! The first enemy will be to the right and just begging for a shot in the back of the head, give him a few to take him out. Another will come from the center and often run to the right side, a second will be on the left side outside on the balcony and two more can come out from the back areas on the right.

Once theyre all dead you can move a bit more into the room but keep your eyes on the right side of the room. Theres a staircase over there and there will be at least one guy up there shooting at you, maybe more if some of the others have retreated up there. Kill them before searching the lower floor for all the ammo you can find. Make your way up the stairs slowly, preferably crouching, and keep your gun trained on the door since an enemy will come busting through the door to shoot your face off. Due to the close proximity he can really injure you if you arent careful so take him out fast.

Make your way into the next room where you will see a vision of Alma reaching out for the music box. Seem familiar? Head on over to the music box and activate it to open up the secret door to Aristides hiding place. Make your way down the stairs to her room and listen to her rambling. After a bit a vision will take over, follow the path back down the stairs to see a vision that ends this chapter.

11

4.2 Interval 2: Isolation 4.2.1 Chapter: Awakening This chapter begins with a fair amount of cutscenes to sit through before you regain control of Beckett. However you dont have a gun or any health kits to call your own. Head out of the hospital room into the hallways and be prepared to do a lot of boring walking for the time being. The rooms dont contain much of anything right now except for the random piece of Intel you can find. You will see Alma as youre walking so head in that direction to find a janitors room with a health kit in it.

After youve gotten that head back the way you came from and take the other path. You should see a giant X spray-painted on the wall. Turn to the left after the X and open the double doors and continue forward. Its a pretty straight line, lots of doors but none of them can be opened, until you reach a lobby area. You can identify it by a large open area to the right and a pair of double doors to the left. Heading to the right leads to a small room containing nothing but some Intel so take the double doors. Make your way up the stairs, ignore the blood trail and walk past the office, taking the right down the hall. After passing through the double doors you will get a sight as to what the hell is actually going on here. Go into the maintenance area; take a right into the dark hallway to reach Aristide who will explain a bit of whats going on. Leave through the Exit door and watch your left side for a health kit.

You will exit out of the back areas into an office area of some sort where you will get to hear your mysterious ally for the first time. He warns you of a trap that youre about to head on into, hacking in to your communication channel somehow. As you leave through exit to this room you will finally be told of your newfound Slo-Mo ability. Sweet!

12

The reason for this ability being given to you is soon revealed. There are two enemies in the room before you, both with weapons while youre still unarmed. You have two options here: first of all you could easily grab the sub-machine gun near the door and open fire on them. If you shoot the containers on their backs they die in a few hits and rather messily. However if youre feeling daring just rush into the room, slide kick the first one and use his weapon to kill the second. Its pretty easy either way.

Pick up any Frag grenades, ammo and armor you find lying around in the room before you attempt to continue. From this point onwards take note; weapons and armor will often be found lying on, or near, ammo crates that are highlighted with blue glow sticks. So look for those in a room before leaving it since these are one of the few ways you will come across armor in the field. Make your way into the next room, grab the ammo as you go, and head around the desk. The doubles door at the end of the hall will be blown open leading two soldiers to attack. Snatch up their ammo before proceeding forward any further. The trick to this area is that you can either go through the door to the left or the door that the enemies came through. Either one will lead you along the path forward but your combat strategies will change depending on which way you go. If you take the hallways you dont really have much in the ways of cover but enemies also wont have much cover.

The better way to go is to take the door to the left where you will have some gurneys to use as cover from the enemies. Most of these are too low for the AI to use as full cover although they will act like it is; this lets you kill them pretty easily. Mow through them using your sub-machine gun or grenades as you please until you reach the end of the hallway. Grenades are kind of a waste really since you can simply shoot the oxygen tanks attached to the hospital equipment to achieve the same effect but its an option. 13

Not every enemy is going to come into the side rooms so you will eventually have to head out the right doors and face the remaining two or so. If you got hurt make sure to use the health injector in the previous rooms to heal up before going up. Even then, once youve killed those who came out, as you try to enter the right rooms you will likely be accosted by two more soldiers at a very close range. Take them out and then head on in.

When you head on into the room the soldiers were pouring out from you will find no less than four medical injectors (?!) lying there. Thats a bad sign. When you try to continue further into the room more soldiers will come out of the far side of the room to harass you. These two have canisters on their back that are just begging to be shot, oblige them to save on ammo. When theyre dead gather up ammo and continue on your way. You will hear some soldiers through the glass to your left telling some terrified nurse to open up the door. Shes obviously not going to listen but this gives you a great chance to do some sniping on enemies heads. There are three of them out there, one of whom is off to the left and easily picked off. You shouldnt have much difficulty killing them especially if you use slo-mo to give yourself all the time in the world to do so.

Somebody is way too exposed.

When theyre dead drop down and head on over to the elevator. Pressing the button to call the elevator is going to initiate an enemy attack so be ready for it. Once you press the button run all the way back the way you came. Enemies are going to drop down through the same window you used so if you get right underneath them and activate slo-mo as each of them drops you can kill them before they even get the chance to return fire. After five enemies the doors will open and some enemies will set up shop above you so just run for the elevator doors and use them before you get hurt.

14

Unfortunately your elevator ride is going to be cut short by the enemy soldiers. Your elevator will stop mid-floor with several soldiers firing in at you. Two of them are hiding behind a couch on the left side while a third is off to the right crouching out in the open. This isnt a great position to fight them in although you can if you so choose (this is highly unadvisable if youre on a higher difficulty). Using slo-mo make your way out of the elevator and under the floor into the small tunnel there.

Go through the tunnel, up the stairs and walk up to the door thats slightly ajar here. You can shoot the new soldiers that are standing near the elevator shaft in the back of the head from where you are. If you left any other soldiers still alive a grenade will help dislodge them from their cover where you can then kill them in a single slo-mo hail of bullets. There will still be one straggler hiding off in the distance a bit, firing off shots at you. Take him out before searching the area for ammo, armor and health injectors. As you attempt to move forward a soldier with a tank on his back will come running out, blow him up so you can continue moving. As youre walking you see a pair of double doors on your right hand side, inside of this room is some sub-machine gun ammo for you to snatch up. When you see a pool of blood in front of a door on your left head inside and grab up the keycard. Use said keycard on the small panel near the double glass doors to open them up so you can get through. Grab up the armor and ammo from the supply crates at the intersection, watch the little interaction that happens as you turn the corner and take out the soldier. Move forward quickly and look into the cafeteria room to see a bunch of soldiers. There are two in front of you and one to the left. The two of them are just begging for a grenade so get one over there, over the cover and preferably in the corner to flush them from cover. After youve gotten the first few there will likely be one or two stragglers so take them out.

15

When you attempt to enter the room itself, or head too far through the hallway adjoining it, at least two or three more soldiers will come running out. Any of them that you find with canisters on their back should be targeted first since only a few shots to the canister will take them out and stagger any nearby enemies. Once theyre all dead you can find a combat shotgun in the room from one of the dead so you will be able to make use of that in the close quarter combat you find yourself in. There is also a medikit and some armor inside of the cafeteria so dont miss those. When you attempt to continue past this hallway you will find two more enemies coming out after you, one from inside of a room to the left and one through the double doors. They can be something of a surprise if you arent prepared for them. Take them out quick, preferably with the shotgun in slo-mo, to minimize the damage received.

Ugh Reinforcements

After this hellish little firefight the next few rooms are surprisingly sedate although Alma does make a few appearances. Once the morgue scene is over jump on top of the gurney holding the elevator door open, crawl inside and use the action button to shove it out so the doors can close. The elevator will go up for a short while before stopping, once it does so go to the elevator doors and use the action button to pry them open. There is some armor and ammo for the combat shotgun in the area near the reception desk. Pick it up and then head to the right, following the blood trail. The room that the trail goes into only contains some Intel so grab that if you like and go through the door across from the one that the trail goes into.

The other door to this small office will lead out into another reception area with a number of enemies. There will be one across from the door and two or so off to the right hand side. This is likely the first area where enemies will begin using grenades to flush you out. 16

Keeping that in mind you will want to use your shotgun, grenades and slo-mo to head on out of the room and cut them all down. On higher difficulties its a good idea to bounce a grenade off the wall to the right so that you kill at least one enemy. Cooking it until its at the third out of five ticks on the timer before throwing it should do the job. Once theyre all dead head out and to the right, the door over here is your destination.

When you go through the door here you will end up in another small office area with cubicles. An enemy will run out of the cubicle in the backmost part of the room, kill him and then enter that cubicle to find a medikit. Once youre done here head through the far door to find yourself in a fairly open room with a medical lab to the left. One enemy will run out to the left and another to the right, slo-mo and headshots are ideal here since there is a lot of cover for them to hide behind.

An easy way to handle this room is to constantly retreat to the office with the cubicles you were just in for reloading and letting the slo-mo refill. This will provoke the enemies into hiding behind the glass wall all the way to the far right side of the room where they are easily taken out. At least two will go running over there in most situations while at least one other enemy will hang around inside of the room on the left side. Once theyre all dead you can head into the room where you can gather up ammo, health and armor.

17

When you approach the far end of the room some more enemies will come running out to attack. Take out the two of them, pick up their ammo and grab the Frag grenades from the supply crates. Continue past the supplies down the hallway with flashing emergency lights to find a door with a pad where you must swipe the keycard again. Head through the doors and make your way over to the reception desk, go behind the desk to find a bunch of health injectors. Now head to the left through the open double doorway and follow the path until you find Genevieve Aristide and Stokes.

Good girl...?

Theres a medikit, health injectors, ammo and armor in the room just waiting to be picked up. Either grab those now or save them for just a bit. After a bit of a hallucination you will meet Col. Vanek for the first time, get used to hearing this dirt bags voice as hes all over the place in this game. After a bit you will be attacked by some more soldiers. Turn around and run up the small staircase to where some of the supplies are this is a good area to hole up in for this firefight. No less than five soldiers will come running into the room gunning for you. Using the supply crates for cover when you need to reload or recharge slo-mo, you should have little difficulty taking them out. Head out of the room and another soldier will attack you however he foolishly takes cover behind the medical cart so give him a headshot greeting.

When you walk past the medical carts two more soldiers will attack, one with a canister on his back, so take them out before continuing forward. As you near the door yet two more enemies are going to attack so take them out preferably with the shotgun. In the reception area there will be two more enemies just begging to be shot up so oblige them. The door for the staircase near the busted elevator is open now so you can head that way. When you reach the bottom of the staircase the chapter is over.

4.2.2 Chapter: Discovery

Open the door and head out, you will hear enemies talking about setting charges. It seems that theyre going to blow this entire facility to hell which is bad for us since were inside. On a supply crate right near the door you can find some incendiary grenades, grab them and look to the right. You should see a soldier fiddling with some sort of yellow barrellike container. These are the explosives that theyre setting and can be of great use when dealing with the enemies in these areas.

When the first enemy is dead hide near the wall on the left side which will prompt two enemies to come investigate their newly dead friend. Once theyre in the right position shoot at the containers to cause a big explosion to take them out. Even if they survive the explosion they will still catch fire and die shortly thereafter. More enemies will be coming down the staircase on the left side of the big room so watch that and headshot them as theyre coming down. More often than not one or two will come down the stairs, one will stay on the upper level to the right and a last one actually leaps down to the lower level. Go for the guy who has jumped down before killing those on the staircase. If you take your time the enemies on the upper level will either jump down or try using the staircase to get at you. The closer they are, the easier they are to kill and the less ammo you waste doing so. After killing most of the enemies you can grab the armor and ammo from the couch facing your hiding position. Now head on into the room along the left side which will prompt two more enemies to come out at you from the right putting themselves right near more explosive canisters. Blow them up, slide right and if anyone survived theyre likely near the explosives here so blow those up to finish the rest off.

19

With all of that done there should only be one or two enemies left at this moment so take them out as normal. If you need a medikit there is one hidden in a room to the left side of the room but thats about it for the bottom floor. As you head up the stairs the elevator across from you will open up to allow more enemies to come after you. If youre good with grenades toss one into the elevator while shooting at the soldiers. This should cut them down in pretty short order.

If there are still any enemies that are still alive youre going to want to slide to the left where theres a small window you can shoot through. This allows you to kill enemies as they emerge pretty easily. Now you can head along the upper level, following it around towards the elevators that the enemies came through. As you go there will be enemies popping up from both near the elevators and to the right side. When youve taken them all out (about four or five of them) search the floor for ammo and just past the elevator for some armor. Do that before you head on into the elevator. After exiting the elevator follow the straight path until you reach some hallways with flashing emergency lights. There are enemies talking in the hallway ahead of you but if you sneak forward, crouching and moving slowly, then you can get them with a grenade. Another soldier will come running out on the left side, a few shots will take him out.

Go through the door into the burning office to encounter some more soldiers. Take the two of them out with a shotgun blast or two each before going into the janitors room. Climb up the stepladder into the vents and continue forward until the game autosaves. Get out the shotgun before you drop down out of the second vent that you come across. There is a health pack here that will help you out shortly.

20

As soon as you land you will see a doctor running past you getting burned to death by an enemy wielding a Napalm Cannon. When dealing with these enemies keep moving since their flame attacks fire off as a burst of flames and set fire to an entire area. There are two ways to kill them; either non-stop gunshots to the head while in slo-mo or you can dodge while opening fire on the container on their back. After enough damage to the container they will blow up but it takes a lot more effort than the weaker soldiers.

Flamethrower Enemies... Prepare to Run.

Once youve killed the first one head on over to the other room to your right for some ammo and an armor pick-up. When you try to head out of this room a second flamethrower enemy will come out after you. After killing the second enemy you might want to pick up one of the Napalm Cannons since theyre pretty effective for killing the regular soldiers that you encounter. Hang along the right side of the room to find your way through the burning rooms. You will pass some ammo pick-ups as you go along this path. After passing through a few burning rooms you will come into a room with a blockage in front of you and a broken double door to your left hand side. Two soldiers will come running out at you but they are easily disposed of if you have the Napalm Cannon out.

After the first two have been killed two more soldiers will come running out of the back room so take them out as well. There is a medikit on the wall in the initial hallway, grab that before you continue forward. Pick up the armor as you go and take out the soldiers that attack you from the room in front of you. Everything will go quiet until you reach the hallway, kill off the two soldiers that pop up here. Go through the door, down the stairs and out the other door. There are some soldiers talking about one of their dead comrades who seems to have been horribly slaughtered by something.

21

The soldiers are going to move off before you get the chance to catch up to them so dont worry about it. When you find the soldier they were talking about it seems that somebody has removed his head and used the blood to inscribe some weird runic symbols on the walls and floors of the hallway. Its pretty brutal. Anyways at the end of the hallway there are two soldiers, one of whom is probably walking through the door to the right and a second who has probably already gone that way. Toss a grenade through the door to take them out with ease although you might need to shoot them a bit to finish them off.

Somebody had a bad nosebleed.

After walking through the hallway with the emergency lights flashing you will see a soldier who attempts to shoot you only to get yanked off to the side rapidly. Something is out there killing off the soldiers and it isnt you. When you go through the door there is blood all over and a body gets thrown towards you. Head through the door to the left of the washing machines and see a wounded soldier come hobbling towards you. One shot to the chest will take him out, allowing you to proceed forward. Directly in front of you is a small room while to the left is a hallway and second room. In that hallway there are at least three soldiers waiting to be killed. One of them might retreat into the small room to the left so you will have to chase him down a bit.

Once youve killed off those three soldiers another pair will likely come from the direction that the first ones emerged from. Now head towards the pillar painted with an X and go through the blown up door there. Grab the medikit off of the wall, leave the room and head to the right. Follow the blood trail and go into the janitors closet to reach what appears to be a record keeping room of some sort. As you walk into the room you will see a few soldiers running away from some creature that is running along the walls. Youre going to have to deal with those as well in a little bit.

22

Make your way to the far corner of the records room where there is an X painted on the wall and head to the left through the door. Enjoy the view of the carnage that the creature has left in its wake before heading down the stairs. Turn to the left and head on over to the double doors in this next room. When you exit through them four soldiers will run out, one of which gets pulled through a door to the left to his death.

Come out through the double doors opening fire on everything you see. A good choice is to throw a grenade to the far end of the room and follow it with a shotgun in hand. The enemies will often scatter from the grenade before being concerned about you so take them out with slo-mo headshots as you rush down the hallway. At the far end go through the door on the left, taking out the soldier who comes out as you go, and start heading down the hallway. Another soldier will run out but he doesnt last long before getting dragged off. To the left is a sliding double door you need to go through with an elevator beyond it. Get inside and head on up. As you get out of the elevator there is an open door the left and a double door to the right. The open door is a janitors room with a medikit so grab it if you need it before continuing through the double doors. You will find yourself in a medical theatre looking down over a horribly bloody operating room. Make sure that you have your shotgun out before you approach the break in the glass, things are going to get a bit hairy here.

Well hello there!

About six of these creatures are going to attack you after knocking you down. They die in one shotgun blast if you can catch them in the head / torso area so thats the ideal weapon. They arent the strongest but they are pretty quick so stay on your toes and use slo-mo. 23

Head out of the operating room and search the immediate area for some health injectors. When you head up the ramp there is some shotgun ammo but another creature will attack you. Repeatedly kick the gurney to get it out from the door so that it opens enough to allow you through. To the right you will find Jankowski inside another operating room being mauled by a surgical device. Nothing to be done for him so head on into the vents.

There's some poor maintenance going on here.

Make your way through the gore infested air vents and hop down to end the chapter.

4.1.4 Chapter: Withdrawal

Try to ignore the gigantic pile of viscera you land on without thinking about it too much. Make your way forward while ignoring the sliding door in front of you and the door to your right and head to the left. Go into the room at the end of the hallway, activate the control panel to shut down the x-ray machine and open the sliding door. Now go back into the hallway, the sliding door to your right should be able to open now.

After entering the room take a left through the busted door to get a little pep talk from Fox, one of your squad mates. From here its basically a straight line through several hallways. Eventually you will reach a pair of double doors that are slightly cracked a creature will close the doors on you as you near them. The door to your left contains a medikit while the door to your right allows you to proceed forward. Keep on moving until you hear a doctor pleading for mercy from some of the soldiers. Obviously that isnt going to be happening. Rush around the corner with slo-mo activated and shoot the explosives in the area to take out the soldier with ease.

24

Two more enemies will be inside of the area just ahead of you while another will be through the sliding doors to your left. Go for the guy on the left first since he has an explosive canister on him that makes killing him a breeze. Rush forward, go around to the right and take out the two soldiers. Three more will run into the room to attack you as you go further into the room so take them out as well.

Dont dawdle behind cover since these guys tend to be awfully grenade happy if you try to stay hidden for too long. Head through the open grate in the back area of the room to find some ammo and the way further into the compound. After the airlock type doors open you will get a few sights of the crawling enemies and even see a soldier running along. The path is pretty straight forward and uneventful until you go through a door and down some stairs into a sparsely lit back area. After walking down the steps a lone creature, apparently known as Abominations, will come rushing out at you so show him how you feel about that.

I heart the shotgun so much.

Once hes taken out continue forward until you come to a corner where you can go up some stairs to the right. To the left is a medikit stashed in the little corner so grab that and then head upstairs. As you walk the whole facility will shake like an explosion has rocked it and the game will save, you need to get the heck out of this place now. Run down the hallway to the freight elevator and quickly use the elevator panel on the left wall to get the living hell outta here. Mid-trip it segues into Interval 03 but its still the same chapter.

25

4.3 Interval 3: Recognition There are four soldiers just waiting to shoot you in the face when you exit the elevator. Take out your shotgun and rush them with slo-mo to get through this with the least amount of damage possible. Theres too much cover for you to take it slowly here especially if the enemies happen to get a little too grenade happy. Be mindful of the one that drops down from the upper level, he can surprise you if you arent mindful. Head through the door, head up the stairs to grab the body armor and grenades. Look for the ladder in the floor and climb on down. At the bottom of the ladder you will be on a shaking stairwell that seems to be falling apart. Start sprinting down the stairs as fast as you can, ignoring any gunfire that flies your way, and keep moving. Up ahead is the normal stuff youve come to expect out of the FEAR series; big ol gunfights. As you go around the curve in the tunnel you should fling a grenade ahead of you since there are like four or five soldiers. Take out the soldiers and start moving further into the room as you near the far end two more soldiers will come out to attack.

Make sure to search the area thoroughly to find some ammo, grenades and health injectors just strewn about after the gun fighting. There is a padlocked fence to the right hand side of the room, shoot the explosive barrel from a safe distance to blow it open. You can find some armor lying on a supply crate hidden in this area so grab that before continuing further along the path. Heading out the door to this room you will find two more soldiers guarding a small staircase; take them out and head on up the stairs before heading left. Go down the ladder here and you will find some armor. There are also enemies on the ground floor straight ahead that you can shoot from here so try to snipe them off. Four enemies will come out of the door that the APC drove through so use slo-mo to pick them off.

26

There are more enemies down below but they cant be gotten from here so head down the ladder but quickly take cover. Start moving towards the large double doors in the rear part of the tunnel. A soldier will likely start shooting at you, he doesnt seem to leave that spot, so take him out before using slo-mo to get through the door. Kill the soldier here before continuing to move forward. There is one enemy on the other side of the forklift behind a concrete barrier and a second on the upper balcony.

Kill the guy on the upper level first before taking out the guy behind the concrete barrier. Ignore the enemies who are shooting at you from the left side for the time being. Run over behind the barrier the guy was using and head to the left. There is a door override here that, once pulled, will open up the door allowing you to head over to where the other enemies are shooting at you from. There are three enemies inside of that cage area, two of which will likely charge your position while a third hangs back. The two will attempt to flush you out with grenades while shooting you up whenever you emerge from cover. A fourth enemy will sprint away from you to run around the corner. Hes nearly impossible to stop even if he runs right into a grenade he still tends to run off around the corner.

Hey buddy, where ya goin?

When you attempt to follow him the ceiling will collapse down in your path requiring you to walk up the debris, crouch and drop down into the next room. Pick up the ammo and armor from the area you land in to help restock before continuing forward. Do not miss the Assault Rifle because that will make your life much easier in the next area.

27

As you head forward the back door of the APC to your left will bust open releasing another flamethrower soldier will come out to attack. Immediately activate slo-mo with the assault rifle in hand and start shooting at the soldiers head. If he happens to move in a manner that lets you get at it shoot his tank as well. It wont take much effort to take out this schmuck before he even gets the chance to really hurt you.

If you have any ammo left in the assault rifle you can use it to take out the enemies that come out. Theres one on the scaffolds right in front of you all the way up and a pair to the left, in the direction that the APC drove off. As you attempt to go further into the room more soldiers will emerge from the same place that the pair of soldiers came from, up on the rafters. Continue making your way to the left, grabbing the Napalm Cannon as you go, and more soldiers will emerge to attack you. These few enemies arent much of a problem especially if you happen to have the Napalm cannon. Just keep moving forward, use slo-mo liberally to slow them down and keep up the push. The real danger comes from when you reach the far end of the room. Enemies will begin coming down the staircase on the left side and these guys are absolutely grenade happy. Make sure to use slow motion to avoid any incoming explosives while taking headshots at the enemies as they come.

Climb up the ladders where the soldiers were climbing down and make your way up the three levels here. As you move along the upper level you will see an enemy shooting at you from behind a closing grate, either kill him or dodge his attacks until it closes. Enemies will begin moving in on your position from the right of where the grate is so take cover behind the large boxes. Fling a grenade over there if youd like to soften them up before moving in with slo-mo to wipe them out. There is a ladder in the ground to your left as youre walking, climb on down.

28

Make your way into the tunnels and you will enter a room where you are locked in by a blast door. Snatch up all of the ammunition and armor before heading up the stairs in the far corner of the room. When you go through the door up here you will hear more calls by Vanek for your death. Soldiers will begin running around the lower level to your left; some will attempt to climb the ladder at the far end of this platform while others will blow open the blast door in the previous room you were in and attempt to flank you.

The best thing to do is to strafe along the upper level while slo-mo sniping the enemies. You can thin them out if you simply stay on the move so that by the time they blow open the door and start attacking you from both sides you can fight them from either room. This fight can go on for quite some time but so long as youre careful you shouldnt have too many problems killing them all off before they do too much damage to you. Gather up any supplies that you can scavenge up before heading for the door along the left side of the room. Follow the curving blue passage taking the single soldier that attacks you as you go. When you go to enter the yellow lit hallway at the end of this passage dont bother shooting the enemy there, the pipes near him are going to freaking explode and take him out in one fell swoop.

That explosion was great for taking out the soldier without wasting any ammo but its blocked off the ladder that we need to go up to get out of here. Crap, we need to find a gas shut off valve to get up that ladder. To the right of the door soldiers are going to start moving right towards you so use the slo-mo to start taking them out. The first soldier can be taken out pretty easily and the second soldier is usually near the explosive containers making for easy prey. There are the two that start close to you and two further down the tunnel. The one on the left is near an explosive barrel (its hard to see but its behind him a bit) and the other must be shot down. 29

Even after taking the two of them out go through the small side passage to the right rather than right up the middle. There is an enemy or two hiding at the far end of this room that will ambush you if you go straight down the tunnel. You can pick up some armor and grenades in the side room as you go. If you go into the room it shouldnt be too hard to take them out as they try to maneuver around to get at you.

Exit out to the left from the far side of the room and an enemy will be standing on the little balcony shooting at you. Take him out before searching to the right side near the pipes, theres a valve here that you can turn to shut off the gas. This will remove the flames that are blocking you from going up the ladder at the other end of the passageway. You can proceed now but this is an invitation for some more soldiers to attack of course. Three soldiers will lead the charge from a passage to the left at the furthest end of the corridor. If you head straight for them cook a grenade and toss it to thin their ranks (or at least send them running or cover) before shooting them up with your machine gun. More will come out to attack as youre heading down the tunnel so youre going to have a constant fight on your hands for a bit. You might find yourself getting pushed back by the aggressive A.I. so use a grenade if you have to stop their push.

Dont be surprised if you take a fair bit of damage doing this run but it isnt that big of a deal. You should be able to survive the deluge of bullets if you have any decent amount of medikits at your disposal. For the most part these guys are fairly direct but dont be surprised if one tries to sneak around the side path to ambush you. If you left any armor or health behind in the side path now is a great time to pick it up. Even after youve taken them out three more soldiers will come out to attack so be ready for them. Once theyre all dead you can head on up the ladder and through the door here.

30

Make your way along the outside path before going up the stairs. Take armor from the enemies there, open the door to your left and start to go on inside. Flames will erupt from the pipe right in front of you so head around to the left while ducking under the pipe thats fallen. When you attempt to leave this room everything blows the hell up on you.

Well crap...

4.3.1 Chapter: Replica After getting your bearings head on over to the ladder and climb on up into the small control room. Obviously you arent going to be taking the path through the flames so follow the path through the two doors. The third door leads to a small room that contains some Intel and a medikit but the path forward is through the hallways. After passing through the double doors you will find yourself in a room thats flashing brightly red through something that Alma is apparently doing. Speaking of

Augh! Bad zombie psychic! Get out of my personal space!

You can see Alma through the glass to your right as youre walking which is a good warning. When you turn the corner she will appear at the end of the hall before jumping on you and grabbing your arm. Jam on the melee button to shake her off or she can actually kill you. This is going to happen numerous times throughout the rest of the game so be prepared to keep on fending her off, its going to get real redundant later on. The door thats been knocked off the hinges at the end of the hallway isnt the way to go so ignore it, head to the left instead. Slip through the slightly opened sliding door on your left as you go to enter a control room.

31

Make your way to the far end of the control room, crouching to get through the busted door, and out into the hallway. Theres absolutely nothing to the right of you so make your way left. When you step out into the open area you have a few ways you can go to the left, to the right through the busted door or down the stairs. Make your way through the doors to the right, hop over the debris and take note of the busted glass on your left side. Head down the stairs into a small control room with a computer you need to use.

When you use the computer the green door out of this room will lock but a door on the other side of the glass will open. Go back up the stairs where you were before, that break in the glass you passed before will allow you to hop down and get to the door you opened. An abomination is going to lunge out of one of the rooms at you but hes killed rather easily after he scares you so just blow his face off. Head through the next door, obviously you cant take the door with the flames in front of it, so turn to the right into a weird room. One of the abominations is strapped down and being forced to watch some weird symbols on the monitors above you. An abomination will attack from the far door so take the attacker out and then put the schmuck in the chair out of his misery before continuing on. When you step onto the ledge that overlooks the abomination in the chair another will attack from high above so be mindful. Lastly at the top of the stairs yet another abomination will leap down to attack from behind.

After opening the door you will find yourself in a control room that overlooks the chair with the abomination strapped in. Grab the medikit here if you need it before continuing. Things will be quiet until you reach a hallway with blue glass walls where an abomination will bust through the glass to come after you. When you continue forward into the yellowish lit room three more abominations will attack you one by one. Theres armor here if you need it so grab that and keep on moving.

32

With that room handled make your way down the stairwell to the right being mindful of the abomination that attacks as you do so. Guess what? As you pass the forklift in the next room yet another abomination will attack you. And when you walk towards the exit to the room? Another one is going to pop up behind you on the left side of the room. If you cant tell these things are going to keep popping out of the woodwork everywhere that you go in this place. This isnt very dangerous, more annoying than anything as long as you stay on your toes.

In the next hallway you will have explosive canisters lining the walls to your left. An abomination will bust out of a grate in front of you, kill him and be prepared for another to come up on your left side along the pillar there. Walking into the next room the whole place will shake, not a good sign. At the far side of this platform there are three health injectors if you need them. Hop down on the right side of the room through the pillars to get to the lower level. Make your way straight to the ladder, killing another abomination as you go, and climb up. Enter the door up here where you will find yourself dealing with another surprise abomination but the fun isnt over. As you near the far end of the room you will see another abomination leap up into the upper area of the room and one of them will leap on your face shortly. Jam on the melee button to chase him off before losing your face.

By the time youve killed the second enemy the one you saw leaping up into the ceiling will likely be reading to attack you so stay on your toes. He can come from behind pretty easily and startle the heck outta you. Follow the path now and you will reach an elevator, ride it on up. Dont shoot the abomination on the roof since you cant hurt him. You can watch for him to get ground up in the fan though which is fun.

33

When you exit the elevator keep your eyes on the right side of your screen. There is a health injector on the floor there and, behind it, a fence you can open to get at more supplies including armor and ammo. Further down the passage there is a large entryway to your left if this big area looks like a set-up it is and we both know it. Upon reaching the far side of the room the grate will seal in front of you which forces you to sit there and listen what Vanek has to say.

After hes finished talking he is going to send in his soldiers to take you out. Hug the cover here very tightly while leaning out to take shots at them. Be careful here though since this section goes on for quite some time and the enemies move around quite a bit. Its hard to say where they come since they come from all angles, move all over the place, attempt to flank you and are just incredibly aggressive. More often than not if you stay near the monitor Vanek spoke to you from while keeping your eyes on the picture in the above left screenshot you should see most of them as they come to attack. The attacks will stop after youve killed enough soldiers, seemingly leaving you in the clear. Well Alma hasnt gotten the chance to play yet so keep your eyes peeled. Several containers are going to rise up from the floor, deploying Replica soldiers to attack. Oh boy, who doesnt miss fighting 4,000 of these guys in the first game?!

These guys are stronger, faster, more grenade happy and better coordinated than the regular soldiers youve been fighting. They also use more powerful default weapons using assault rifles instead of sub-machine guns. Until you get used to fighting these guys dont be surprised if they smack you around a fair bit. The best way to handle them is to stay mobile, pop out from behind cover with slo-mo to shoot them in the head and then keep moving. You dont want to be moving around in plain sight of these guys without your slow motion going since they will shoot you up.

34

As another note the Replica soldiers come in two types: the first is the soldiers that youre used to seeing but the second are bulky soldiers in heavy armor with assault shotguns. These guys can be a bit of a problem as they take numerous shots to the head with even an assault rifle or shotgun. Theyre really tough, only going down easily with a laser or Hammerhead to cleave through their armor.

Once youve killed five soldiers the game will auto save while the Replica containers lower back into the ground. The fighting isnt over; this is just a reprieve so use this time to run around picking up any guns or ammo that you can. The containers will come back refilled with soldiers so youre going to have to fight off a second wave of enemies. After taking them out yet another wave of soldiers will attack but you dont really have to fight them. Alma will appear in the room where the psychic commander of the units was held (the disgusting abomination thing) and kill it, leaving the soldiers directionless. Make your way around the room taking out the enemies with your weaker weapons or melee attacks as you please so that you can snatch their ammunition.

With that handled youre going to need to get out of this Replica training area. Make your way towards the glass observation room where the commander was and you should see a container that has fallen over. There is a yellow light beaming up from below through a panel there, this is your goal. Drop down this hatch to get the heck out of here. The elevator you land on will take you down to the Replica deployment area so hop down to the ground level. Start heading to the left of where you land to encounter some more Replica soldiers. There are five enemies in the immediate area that will come out of containers on both your level and the ones on the conveyor above you. Take them out before pushing forward around the corner.

35

Moving a bit more forward you will find three more enemies coming out of containers, one near the ladder to the left (a heavy armor soldier) and two out from the far right. You can use the shotgun aggressively to take them out before going up the ladder to the left. Run across the bridge here, more Replica soldiers will come out from the left containers. One of them is a heavy armor soldier and the others are regular soldiers.

There is some armor to be found on a bench to the left so grab that before continuing forward through a door to the left. You will walk along a balcony before coming into a room that is ever so conspicuously full of Replica containers. When the game saves you just know that youre about to be attacked. Get out your assault rifle and tuck into either the left or right corner of the room. The left is a bit more exposed but the right traps you in a corner where youre vulnerable to grenades. The enemies will mostly charge you while using assault rifles. Theyre not particularly difficult to take out you just need to make sure that none of them manage to flank you. If you get pinned between two different groups youre pretty much screwed especially since they wont hesitate to use grenades to flush you out of any cover youre hiding behind.

Head to the other side of the room and drop down the ladder here into the lower level. Pick up the medikit here if you need it before turning to the right. Theres a vent there that you can open by blowing up the containers in front of it. Grab the two proximity mines from in there before heading up the ladder and going to the left. Lift up the container thats blocking the door with the action button before heading on in. Snatch the medikit here if you need it before exiting through the far door. As soon as you enter this room youre going to hear gunshots being fired off. Vaneks troops and the Replica soldiers are fighting in there although they will attack you too.

36

Crouch down and use the wooden boxes as cover as you slowly creep into sight of the enemies inside the room. Pop out of cover, use the slo-mo and take out whomever you can. It might be hard to see them normally from this distance but the slo-mo makes them glow with a metallic sheen which is much easier to shoot at. Do this slowly so that the enemies will take each other out before you have to get your hands dirty.

Once youve taken out any enemies you can see immediately make your way inside of the room but watch to your left. There are likely still a few enemies there that can shoot at you. Climb up the ladder across from the door to find a little spot where you can grab some supplies. Once youve gotten the armor and medikit you can head to the left, along the narrow ledge, along to the side where the enemies were holed up. This lets you shoot down on any stragglers who dare to still live with ease. Make your way up the stairs in the rear of this room after grabbing up any supplies. Theres a small scare with an abomination but dont waste any ammo on him. You will find yourself under some grating where some soldiers are fighting abominations. Make your way forward but slow down when you near the turn to the right. An abomination will attack you so take him out before trying to move any further forward. Upon reaching the top of the stairs you will see three soldiers running through a door. This next room is a bit tough. There are a number of enemies at the far end of the room who will come towards you slowly. But theyre really accurate and can hurt you pretty easily. First two of them will attack you but several more await you in a room to the left near the end of the corridor. If youd like you can try to attack them from the side by going up along the left, shooting the padlock off the door and shooting at them.

37

This is probably a good idea anyway since there is armor to be picked up here and you likely need it by this point. After you take out the two enemies that are hiding over there more will come down the stairs towards you. Its likely best to retreat amidst the supply crates right now so that they cant easily pin you down with gunfire and grenades. Killing the second pair causes a trio to emerge with at least one heavy armor soldier so be ready. Once youve taken them all out gather up guns, ammo and armor from the area before climbing up the ladder to get on the upper platform. Head up the stairs to find a vent open allowing you to go through a service vent. At the far end of this you will emerge in a room with a main lift that can get you the heck out of this hellhole. There is one lone enemy down below in the room so take them out before heading down the ladder.

When you head down to the bottom level run around and collect all of the supplies that you can get your hands on especially the shock grenades. Dont use those yet no matter what. Once youre prepared go on over to the main lift and activate it only to get a rude surprise. It seems that you need to turn the red flashing valves to get the lift started but this also provokes a rather heavy enemy response.

Enemies are going to attack from just about every angle you can get here. There is one safe spot and that is an office to the right side where theres an armor pick-up. Make liberal use of the scope on your assault rifle, and slo-mo, to take them out. Youre going to want to keep moving or the damage will rapidly add up on your poor soft body. Using any Frag grenades youve still got or explosive canisters will make your life much simpler. Eventually you will take all out of the soldiers meaning you can turn the valves at your leisure even that has complications though.

38

When you turn the first valve everything is fine but upon turning the second a Replica in power armor is going to attack you. These guys are just as bad as they were in the first one, making liberal use of its chain guns to tear you apart. Since you dont have a missile launcher toss a shock grenade to leave him stuck in place and open up on his face with the shotgun. If you dont have shock grenades keep the power armor on the other side of a pillar while you strafe back and forth to avoid giving it a clear shot.

Oh boy, who doesn't miss these guys?

These guys arent terribly hard even on the hard difficulty since theyre easily manipulated into getting stuck on pillars. If you find yourself being hit a lot just use slomo to help you dodge their bullets while you open fire on them. Once youve inflicted enough damage he will blow up giving you free reign to pillage the room for ammunition, armor and health. Now you can turn the last valve which lets you ride the lift to freedom.

39

4.4 Interval 4: Devastation 4.4.1 Chapter: Ruin Youve got a pretty straight path out of the factory without any sort of opposition to worry about. However when you get to the city streets things apparently havent gone very well for the citizens of this place. Where it was a hustle and bustle of activity before now all thats left is this

Well hell, Alma is pretty pissed off.

Once youre on the streets take a left around the rubble to find your path. The path will lead you to an alley with a door you must enter. Make your way through the inside of the building and after a bit of hopping over stuff you will end up back on the street. Eventually you will be greeted by this odd sight:

As you can guess theres something wrong with this guy. Hes like some sort of deformed human carrying a briefcase, waving up at the sky as if theres someone there that theyre trying to get to notice them. Be very careful here, this is a very rare creature called a Remnant. These guys can be very dangerous if not handled properly. They are absolute bullet sponges, able to suck up an incredible amount of punishment even if its all aimed at their faces (headshots seem to have no special effect). They attack by screaming out in rage if you get too close to them, knocking your vision around and doing minimal health damage. The real threat comes when they start using the red tendrils that emerge from their bodies to reanimate dead bodies to attack you. Using this on the dead soldiers will allow these enemies to open fire on you. The soldiers will go down in a few shots but they can just keep reanimating them if you dont reduce the dead bodies to a fine red mist.

40

Your best bet when facing these guys down (not common only three exist in the entire game) is to set some proximity mines around the around and pursue them with the shotgun. They seem to shrug off most other weapons like the napalm or missile launchers with minimal damage so dont waste rare ammo. Just use the shotgun or assault rifle to take them out as quickly as possible. Remember to use slo-mo to help you fill them full of ammo quicker with less chance for them to hit you.

A corpse puppet.

The entrance to the building you need to go for is on your left side. Head on over that way and begin moving through the building. You will pass through some vents before finding yourself back on the streets. After you pass a downed plane you will hop down off of some rubble and immediately be shot at. There are some Replica soldiers having a little fight with one of Vaneks flamethrower goons. Try to let them fight it out before shooting the crap out of the flamethrower guys backpack and head area. Kill off any remaining soldiers in sight before moving forward, there is a second flamethrower soldier who is waiting for you. Even after you take him out there are probably a few soldiers still running around that youre going to have to deal with.

To the left at the far end of the street is a small area with armor and some Frag grenades but your destination is on the right side. When you attempt to enter this building you will have at least two more soldiers to deal with who have a little ambush waiting for you. Take them out before heading on upstairs where there are two more enemies located to your right. Once youve taken them out be very careful, there are more enemies to your left across the street. One has an assault rifle but the other has a freaking missile launcher.

41

You can tell when youre in trouble when you see the green beam moving around, get behind full cover quickly. As soon as the screen stops shaking pop out of cover with slow motion bullets flying at the soldiers face. After youve taken him out hop out onto the plane lying in the street beneath you, walk across the plane and jump into the other building. Take that missile launcher; itll come in handy for most of the game. Make your way into the back room and hop over the wall here.

Electricity is coursing through the water that is pooling in this room. Its coming in through the crack in the ceiling to the upper left and if you look out there you will see a damaged power transformer. Shoot this to bring it down which will stop the flow of electricity to the water. Take note of this as this is one of the methods of stopping the huge enemy mechs in their tracks. Walk through the door, hop down through the hole and now youre on the streets with a soldier and one of those huge mechs! If you stay right where you fell down the mech will wipe out the soldier before kind of meandering around, patrolling the area. If you wait for it to walk on over to the pole with the power transformer on it before shooting it with a missile you will damage it and drop the transformer on it, leaving it stuck in place.

This will allow you to hammer it with at least one or two more missiles before it can start trying to move on in on you. It only takes two or three missiles with the power transformer to take this bad boy out. Thats the good news, the bad news is that this provokes some Replica soldiers to attack. One soldier will charge you with an assault rifle while another from across the street will begin firing missiles down on top of you. Take out the soldier on your level but dont bother shooting at the other one. When you move forward a new objective is going to pop up.

42

An elite mech is going to fall from the sky. This is basically the same thing as that other mech except that they seem to take more damage to wipe out. Instead of just two missiles total this one can take five or six to blow up. Even if you use the power transformer that its landed near to stagger it for a bit youre going to need to use shock grenades or lots of dancing around to avoid being torn up by this thing. If you can get behind it when its damaged you will see a blue spark on its back, hit this with a missile to blow it to away.

Once that behemoth has been taken out you can search the area for any ammunition, armor and medikit to help you to restock supplies. After all of that you shouldnt have much difficulty pushing your way further past the enemies. Start heading down the street to the left taking out another guy with a missile launcher and plenty more soldiers as youre moving down the street. Theres also a spare missile launcher on the second floor of a building along the right side of the street as youre walking. Make your way to the far end of the street, into the alley on the right and head into the building. Its time to go help out Stokes from her bad situation.

4.4.2 Chapter: Top Grab supplies from crates right near you from when the chapter starts. Around the corner are some Replica soldiers just waiting for you to ventilate them up. After you take out a pair of them proceed into the room to the right to cause some more to attack. It might benefit you to start flipping stuff to use as cover here since they can easily pin you down on the higher difficulties so you will want some cover to recharge your reflexes. Once youve taken them out you can head along the straight path until you encounter Stokes.

43

After listening to what she has to say head into the building, making your way up the stairs to the top floor. There is a sniper standing there aiming down at Stokes so take out your assault rifle and give him a few shots in the head. Take out a spare weapon (for us it was the sub-machine gun) and trade it out for the sniper rifle that he drops. Run to the back of this area, get the rifle out and aim across the way. You should see at least a single sniper trying to get a shot off at you.

Peek-a-boo!

Once youve taken out that single target Stokes is going to make a run for it with you trying to cover here. This is going to prompt another sniper to appear in the building across from you so make good use of slo-mo and your sniper rifle to keep picking them off. With him dead more will appear on the building that youre standing on to the right of where youre standing. Two of them will appear, one on a lower level and one on the level just above them. Once these guys are dead things get a bit more hectic.

A large group of Replica soldiers will begin rushing at your position from across the balconies. When they actually reach the wall on the other side of where you are theyre going to blow the thing up, allowing them to get at you. Take out as many as you can while theyre running at you before taking out the shotgun and moving towards the wall thats about to be broken through. Hide in the corner so that you can blow away any of them that come through the break for you. Gather up supplies before going through the break in the wall. Start taking out the soldiers as youre marching along until youve gotten all of them. You will know you did this when Stokes complains about an enemy APC that comes rolling up. Take out your missile launcher and begin firing it at the APCs turret. This takes a serious amount of ammo to do this without the missile launcher. It actually only takes two missiles so lets hope you stuck with that like suggested.

44

This is where things get really ugly. Soldiers are going to pour of the APC to attack both you and Stokes while enemy snipers appear in the building across the way from you. Make your way through the hole the soldiers blew open, taking out soldiers as you get a clear shot at them and make your way into the stairwell over here. Take your time once youve gotten into the stairwell and take out any soldiers that come to attack you. Once the enemies are done with immediately attacking take out the sniper rifle and aim it at the building across from you so that you can get the snipers over there. Scour the area for all the ammunition you can find before heading to the right and going down the staircase over here. Its fairly likely that a few more soldiers will find their way up the stairs to attack you, likely one or two of them. If you can get a grenade into the stairwell you should take them out with little difficulty.

As you near the stairwell another sniper will likely come out to begin shooting at you from that same building. It can be startling and fatal on hard so make sure that you take cover inside of the stairwell that the enemies were coming up. Finishing off the last of the ground soldiers from the cover of this stairwell before going after the sniper is a good way to handle this. Continue this method of clearing each level as you make your way to the ground floor and you will survive this area fine. When you reach the ground floor of this building you will find some enemies hiding in the ruins of the building. So you will want to watch your left and from the same direction as the APC. This isnt terribly hard after the last section you fought your way through so take on the enemies as theyre coming eventually you will finish them off.

When you start to move forward an enemy will actually leap out of the APC so blow him away. Hes nothing special, more like a surprise sort of attacker than anything hard. 45

Your target destination is to head left, past the APC, and around the debris to get to the other door to this building. Head on down the stairs, open the door and follow the hallways for a bit. When you reach the streets again you will see a mech walking around but DONT ATTACK. If you wait the pilot will get out to stretch his legs, open fire on the back of his head to take him out. Guess what you can do?

Oh hell yes.

Yes, you get to pilot one of the powered armors all of your very own. This is one of the more enjoyable sections in the game. Your basic attack is to use both of the mini-guns on each of the mechs arms to fire four barrels of death at your foes. These have infinite ammo and do an incredible amount of damage but they can overheat which requires some cool down. The alternate attack is a slow to recharge and fire missile salvo that does a hell of a lot of damage to anything in the area of effect. This section doesnt really require any sort of walkthrough; youre essentially invulnerable while youre in this armor since its shields are very powerful and they recover over time. The only notes that you have to keep in mind are that of rocket launchers and powered armor.

If you see the green laser beam that indicates a rocket launcher foe is nearby then you must start strafing immediately. Find the person who has that launcher and blow them to hell or they will do some serious damage to you in a very short time. If you see a power armor moving around open fire on them with the missiles before hitting them with a serious amount of machinegun fire, they have to die before they hurt you too much.

46

Eventually you will end up in some sort of a garage area that, after killing most of the enemies, you will find yourself locked in. Get out of the power armor, gather up all of the supplies that you find in the area before pulling the manual door override switch. You can now get back into the mech and continue to wreck hell across the city. Unfortunately the end of your joyride comes after you complete the parking garage area though.

But I don't wanna get out...

Make your way down the stairs here until you reach the padlocked fence. Blow the padlock off and head on through. Just stay along this straight, enemy deprived path until you find Stokes. Now follow her until you get an interesting cutscene with Griffin. Once thats done make your way to the door outside and go down the ladder to end this chapter.

ice knowing ya, buddy.

47

4.5 Interval 5: Provocation 4.5.1 Chapter: Elementary Youre going to be sitting in the APC for a bit listening to your squad chatting about what the hell is going on in this demented city. Of course the front door is totally blocked (again) so youre going to have to find another way into the school. Head on over to the right and you will see some grates along the wall the first one of which is padlocked. Shoot off the lock before hopping down, breaking a window to enter the school proper.

What is it with Monolith and their obsession with schools?

From this point on youre going to be leading Stokes through the school looking for Snake Fist. This is a pretty straightforward little area that is hard to get lost in. Eventually you two are going to be separated (of course) leaving you to find your way through the school all on your lonesome. Head on through the next few doors and you will hear a piano being played. When you move into the music room you will see a weird guy playing a piano there seemingly in his own little world.

You have two options here; fight or flight. If you are very careful you can slink to the right through the side rooms and totally avoid the Remnant if you dont feel like fighting him. Should you actually wish to fight him then all you really have to do is lay down a bunch of proximity mines before using slo-mo to fling a whole bunch of Frag or incendiary grenades in his direction. This will blow away a fair chunk of his health so you can use the shotgun in slo-mo to blow away the rest of it. Scour the area for ammunition and such before making your way to the far right corner of the room. From here head to the left where you will find a window in a reception area of some sort. Move the large chest in the way so you can get through the door.

48

After youve gotten out of the music room you will find yourself in a stereotypically creepy school hallway. Youre going to see lots of strange bright things moving around in your vision. These are enemies that you will fight later on so dont waste any ammo at this point. Simply keep on moving through the hallway until you reach the end. An enemy phantom will attack you from out of nowhere. While theyre fairly scary theyre not too dangerous. The damage stacks up quickly but they die to only a few hits.

Make your way down the hallway slowly and watch your sides for an enemy to come poofing out of nowhere. Give them either a single shotgun blast or a three shot burst from the assault rifle to dispel them. When you reach the end of the hallway you will be in a large room with a flickering light. The light goes out for a few seconds, flickers on for a moment and then its off again. Of course a room like this is going to be haunted by the ghosts so be slow about heading on inside. The best way to proceed with getting through this room in one piece is to use slo-mo liberally. Walk into the room, use slo-mo and take out any ghosts that come at you the moment you enter. Now move quickly to the right corner of the room, turn to face the rest of the room and take out any ghosts you see. Quickly run to the far corner of the room repeating this very same process but be mindful of one that might emerge from the wall right in front of your face. With that done you can now start moving to the doors that are across from you, another ghost will come out through the debris directly in front of you as you go. Turn to the left and you will see what looks like an office area of some sort.

Why is she hanging out here?

49

The moment you approach the doors a ghost will form, beginning to move in your direction. Shoot him to dismiss him before you head on inside. Turn to the right and look around the corner before heading that way to see another ghost forming to attack. In addition to Alma poofing in just to the right of that ghost a second will spawn in behind you. Take them both out and push forward repeating this until you get out of this area.

This guy's seen better days.

After a bit more movement you will reach an outdoor cafeteria looking area. Everything will be calm until you head a bit outside whereupon a few Replica soldiers will come busting out the door opposite of where you are. There are a good five of them that will come out in small groups, attempting to overwhelm you. The main danger is the heavy armor guy with the combat shotgun but you have plenty of room to maneuver here. Once theyre all defeated gather up the ammunition lying around the courtyard before going through the doors that the enemies burst out from. There is an enemy in here by himself so take him out. To your right hand side are some ammo crates that have a missile launcher, armor, proximity mines and some shock grenades that you absolutely have to grab since they will come in handy soon.

Now you need to make your way through the hallway over here but theres a flame barrier being caused by some gas pipes up above. You need to shut the gas off but theres no way to do that from here so its time to backtrack a bit. Head back into the outdoor cafeteria to get a little surprise. Yeah that mech needs to get blown up. Take out your shock grenades and missile launcher and get to work. He shouldnt be too hard to take out at this point. Just use slo-mo to make sure the grenade goes where you want it to. Once the mech has been blown to hell you can head on over to where he was dropped. 50

His entrance to the courtyard has knocked down a portion of the roof. You can use this to climb up to the upper level here so get on up there. Hop on through the window here and make your way through the door to your right hand side. Now youre over the flames that were blocking you but you still cant shut off the gas so keep following the hallways. Youre going to need to make your way through the halls to a broken window that allows access to another part of the outdoor roofs.

As you reach the far side of the outdoor rooftop you will be attacked by some soldiers coming from the windows. Use the cover to your right hand side to reload and let slo-mo recharge if you need it. There are three enemies there with at least one of them likely to hide just out of vision. Make your way over to the windows and start shooting any of the enemies who are hiding on the left hand side. Once you actually enter the room an enemy will burst through the doorway to attack. Take him out quickly before turning to the left. Hop on out through the windows here and traverse the rest of these little rooftops. As you move across this enemies will drop down in front of you so be ready to dive behind cover if needed but dont stop pushing forward. If you arent careful they will pin you down with gunfire before flinging grenades at you. At the end of the path there is a final enemy inside of the windows that needs to be taken out. Hop into the school again and make your way to the left. You will finally reach that shut off valve for the fuel line so you can finally link up with the rest of your squad. Drop down to the lower hallway and follow the previously blocked path. It seems that someone crashed a helicopter out here. Be careful moving past the still spinning rotors, they can actually hurt you. Make your way past the chopper, grab the medikit on the barrel and go through the broken wall. Hop down into the hole and shake off Alma to end this level.

Somebody is a bad driver.

51

4.5.2 Chapter: Nurses Office After listening to what Stokes has to say its time for you to leave them here while you look for Snake Fist. Head on over to the doors and open the one that Stokes isnt in the way of. However do not go running outside or you will be stuck out there with the enemies. If you still have the sniper rifle from earlier, which you should, you can open up the door and start sniping enemies from where you are. Use slo-mo to take head shots on each enemy you see before hiding in the corner behind Stokes to reload.

After killing two or three enemies you will probably have to move on outside to actually get the rest of them. You can either stick with the sniper rifle or take out your assault rifle to handle the rest of these enemies. Three enemies will come running out of the doors all the way across the courtyard. One more will come out up on the left side of the courtyard when you attempt to go up the stairs. Finish taking out the enemies before going through the door that they were emerging from to get another checkpoint. When you round the corner several soldiers will come rushing at you, take them out how you please before starting down the hall. There are plenty of enemies in this hallway and some of them will take cover in the rooms to the left and right to shoot at you. You might luck out with a grenade, taking out the soldiers before they get into cover.

When you start to reach the end of the hallway another pair of enemies will attack you. Take them out before you continue forward past the lockers that are set-up as cover. Turning this corner you will see a whole group of enemies get blown to hell. There is obviously something very bad going on outside in this courtyard so be very careful before you proceed forward any further. The missile launcher or sniper rifle will be your weapons of choice here. 52

Yeah thats an elite soldier of some sort wielding a Hammerhead rifle. This guy can slice your health apart ridiculously fast so youre going to have to be very careful. While it is possible to take him out with an assault rifle or God forbid, a shotgun youre far better off using a slo-mo missile launcher blast to drop this fool with ease. It might take a few assault rifle or sniper rounds after hitting him with a missile. Or you could just give him three sniper shots to his Mysterio looking dome head.

Once youve taken out the first soldier three regular Replica troops will come out. After taking those out youre going to have to deal with a second elite soldier wielding yet another Hammerhead. Now you can head on out into the courtyard to deal with the enemies that are just out of sight. To your right, on the rooftops, will be another soldier shooting down at you so slow things down and shoot him in the face. After youve taken him down youre pretty much safe to start gathering up supplies. You will almost certainly want to take the two Hammerheads from the dead soldiers, replace your shotgun or sniper rifle, because even though they wont last long they can kill enemies incredibly fast with headshots. When done outside head into the door on the far end of the courtyard to grab another Hammerhead, ammo, proximity mines and a medikit from the dead end.

With all of that in hand head back out into the courtyard and head over to the basketball court. Along the wall here you will find some more grates the far left one of which is padlocked. Shoot the lock off, drop down and bust through the glass to re-enter the school. Youre now going to need to find the Nurses Office which is where Snake Fist has hidden himself. A little odd but sure, why not?

53

As you walk down the hallway you will hear some soldiers talking to their superior. Apparently theyre trying to set up some sort of barricade in, or near, the library. This is a fairly great place to use the Hammerhead since youre going to be dealing with enemies using soft cover which the nails will tear right through. The assault rifle works just fine if necessary but if youre not using the Hammerhead youre best off using a sniper rifle with plenty of slo-mo thrown in there. Whatever you choose you need to punch through the wood and books to kill the enemies.

The soldiers will attack you from the library to your right but the small lounge room right in front of you is also an attack angle. They will come through the windows and attempt to use the cover in the room to attack you from. Initially you will be attacked by four soldiers but once you actually attempt to enter library more soldiers will come through the door on the far end of the room while two others come up on your right hand side. Having wiped out the enemies here you can continue further through the hallways. The doors will be sealed as youre going along so you need to find another way through. There is a medikit and incendiary grenade in the womens bathroom so grab them before heading into the mens bathroom. Make your way through the break in the wall at the rear of the bathroom to find yourself in another room. Leave the room to re-enter the hallways of the school. The way forward is up the stairs through the double doors right near you, the rest of the first floor is basically just ghosts, health pickups and Intel. Once youve reached the top of the stairs you will see two soldiers running past only to be turned to a red paste by Alma. Dont shoot at them or you risk a glitch with an invincible blood red skeleton chasing you around the rest of the level. So lets not have that happen or you have to start from the last checkpoint.

54

Finish moving through the hallways until you reach a small janitors room, go on inside and open the other door to reach the rooftop. Move on over to the far corner of the roof to provoke enemies into starting to attack you. Two soldiers will come up along the left side while a helicopter flies up over you to start dropping soldiers down on you. This section can get a bit hairy since there are a fair amount of them here.

The chopper will drop in about four soldiers to attack you as youre trying to take out the first two. As youre taking out those four yet more are going to come up along the right side so the combat never really slows down. To make matters worse these guys are seriously grenade happy so youre going to need to be on your toes. After youve finally taken out the last of the attackers you will be able to proceed. Head through the open fence to the right and make your way around to the back area of this rooftop. Theres a small staircase that will take you back the way that you came as you start to wind your way around the roofs. When you actually go up the stairs you will see a soldier running around on top of the small brick structure up here.

As you take out that guy on top another soldier will come up on the left side so take them both out before making your way over to the small brick structure. There is an air conditioning vent that you can jump on. Walk along the vents, break the glass to your left and hop down. Grab the medikit from the shelves here before doing anything else. The next room is a cafeteria with some sort of stage in the front of it. There are some soldiers on the stage fighting Replica troops. If you still have the sniper rifle in your inventory its a great choice now since you can hang back, starting to snipe off enemies. You can also wait back a bit until the enemies have taken each other out a bit before you start moving out to snipe people. Without the sniper rifle you will have to siege the room with your Hammerhead and assault rifle. 55

After youve taken out the enemies that start off in the room you will want to slip out and use the wooden stage backgrounds as cover, more enemies are coming in. Try to keep your head down while still moving since the cover isnt the greatest. Whenever you emerge from cover make sure you drop at least one soldier so that you can slowly wear them down enough to take them all out.

Yay for bloody gunfights in a lunchroom!

Once theyve all been taken down you can start moving forward. But when you near the middle of the room the glass roof will shatter in on you as soldiers come rappelling down. These guys are incredibly easy to take out since theyre so vulnerable so take them out but dont move forward so quickly. Another soldier will come running out of the kitchen area across from you so drop them and slink forward slowly. A soldier will raise up a rolling grate covering the serving area so shoot him in the face. If you enter the serving area another soldier will pop out near the corner, drop him and continue into the kitchen proper. There are two soldiers using the central island as cover so take them out before looking to the right, rear corner to find another soldier. Once theyre all dead you will hear some enemy chatter that indicates more soldiers are coming to check it out so get ready to shoot them.

One will come from the right corner while the second comes from the left corner. Drop them both before searching the area for ammo. The destination is the rearmost area of the kitchen where the freezer is located inside of a blue lit room. Head into the freezer, hop down into the opened grate in the floor and start moving down here while crouching. Turn on your light so you can see where youre going as the lights go out when you enter.

56

As you start moving through the tunnels you will see phantoms slaughtering soldiers down here. These tunnels are incredibly twisty but its incredibly hard to get lost down here since theres only one real path straight forward. Youre going to have to keep on taking out phantoms as you go so be very careful as you do this. If you end up reloading while a few of them are attacking you they can tear your health to shreds really fast.

You will pass a checkpoint, see another soldier get dragged off and be able to continue on your way. The exit to this area is blocked by, you guessed it, another flame stream thats just going to have to be shut off. This is starting to feel like an engineers work Follow the only path available to you, past the downed pipes, and you will reach the shutoff valve with little difficulty. The difficulty comes in getting back to the area that was blocked off by flames before. Start making your way back there in pitch black with only your flashlight and poltergeists to light your way. The way straight back has been blocked by some debris (*sigh*) so youre going to need to go a bit more roundabout. Shoot the padlock off the fence blocking your path and keep moving. When you reach the flaming desk flip it like it was cover to get it out of your way and hop down to finally escape this area. Leave the boiler room, head to the right to find some armor and then continue to the left. You will encounter two soldiers standing guard on a raised level at the end of a hallway. Kill them before going through the door t the right to reach the area where they were standing. As youre running through the room to your right you will have to cut through four more soldiers. Scour the area for ammunition and then make your way to the elevator for a short ride upwards.

57

Now you will find yourself standing in some sort of executive looking area to the school. Immediately in front of you is a guard meandering around so shoot him in the head. Move out of the elevator, sliding quickly to the left, where you can start shooting the other two enemies that are standing around over here. Make your way through the double doors in the rear right side of the room after gathering all your supplies so you can proceed to the Nurses Office.

As you walk down the hallway you will hear that theyve find out where Snake Fist is and a soldier will sprint across your field of vision. Unfortunately the door that he went through is locked. Youre going to need a key card to get through this door so its time to hunt down that card Wait, didnt this become a tired game mechanic after Doom 2? Ugh, anyways lets find that card. You will find yourself entering a larger lobby-like area off to the side here. As you enter it you will be attacked by four different soldiers, one from the left and three from the right. Take them out as you push your way to the rear right of the room. The door here is your ticket further into the level so head that way. Ride the elevator up to another floor in this godforsaken school to where the keycard is located. This level is desolate allowing you to go around and gather up ammo and other supplies as you make your way through the level. At the end of this area you will find the keycard lying out on a shelf just outside of an office. When you pick it up a Remnant is going to try and scare the crap out of you before bursting out of the office and rushing further into the level. This is going to be fun; he can use every single body that you came across as a weapon against you here. Your best bet is to take out your shotgun or Hammerhead and proximity mines. Lay the mines all over and shoot the crap out of him to finish him off.

58

After killing the Remnant you can make your way back to the elevator. The doors need to be pried open which prompts Alma to jump on your face. Shaking her off causes the elevator to plummet down a level. Crouch drop into the elevator shaft to reach the level just below you. Make your way back to the door you needed the keycard for and open it. Head down the small staircase here but be ready for a fight when you open the door.

Gunfights in a kindergarten class! What's not to love?

In this classroom there are soldiers inside of some sort of observation room. There is one right in front of you up there and the other one is off into the right room. With them defeated head through the door to the right, a soldier will pop out right in front of you so shoot him in the face and continue up to the left. Gather up the supplies in the room before leaving through the far door. In the lobby area to the right there are two enemies out in the open. There is a third enemy in the small room here through the door and a fourth one over to the right. Once youve taken all of them out you can open the nurses office with your keycard. Head on over to the computer and activate it to end this chapter. 4.5.3 Chapter: Snake Fist As you ride the elevator down you will hear a conversation between Snake Fist and Aristide. It seems that shes getting pretty desperate now but were close to our goal. After theyre done he will contact you to tell you how to lift the lockdown that is plaguing the facility that youre in. Make your way up the stairs on the side to a control room of some sort. Theres a blue computer screen that is lit up in this room, head on over to it and activate it to override the lockdown.

59

Getting rid of the lockdown has the unfortunate side effect of allowing Vaneks soldiers into the area to attack you. Stay up in the control room occasionally slipping out to fire shots at enemies that are near the elevator. Use the sniper rifle if you can, or even a few missiles, to thin out the enemies down there because theyre pretty dangerous. Once youve taken them all out you can move around the area gathering up all of the ammo you can get your hands on. Head through the door thats straight and to the left from the elevators exit. Take out the soldier here before you step into the larger room. Theres another soldier running around on the ground level as well. From here you can head on through the door to the side. Ignore the airlock here and go through the door on the left. Follow this path before dropping down out of the window at the end on your right hand side.

There is a busted glass wall to your right so walk on through it and take out the two soldiers that are in your way. A third one will sometimes sneak in under the door at the far side of the room so you might have to crouch and shoot out his legs if he doesnt come into the room. Go under the door before turning to the left down the hallway. When you reach the far end of the hallway go to the right where you will find an open grate in the floor. Climb down that, go through the underground area and climb on up the other ladder to reach a control room. Walk on over to the blue computer screen and activate it to turn on the auxiliary power. Exit out the door, go down the stairs and swing to the left through the large door here to find the way forward into the level. Take note of Snake Fist warning you about the specimens this means that there are more Abominations. Continue moving forward until you see Col. Vanek and his troops trying to get through the doors down here. When he sees you the shutters on the room hes in will close and soldiers will come to attack.

60

The soldiers come from the left side from a fair distance away so you can use missiles or sniper shots to thin them out before you even try fighting them on fair ground. There are usually two soldiers on the upper level and three that will make their way to the lower level to attack you. Head down the stairs and turn to the left to see yet more enemies at the furthest end of the room. Theres a reason theyre coming from there:

Yeah, there are often three or four enemies still lingering around in that room. It might help to throw a shock grenade or a few proximity mines to thin them out before going in there guns blazing. Climb the stairs here, take out the soldier that pops out in front of you and start moving forward. Another pair of soldiers will come out to attack you; one will likely charge your position while the other will stay in the room across from you, shooting. Walk across the catwalk to reach the door over here. Go into it, down the stairs and through the door on your left hand side. This is something of a morgue looking area so its only fitting that four more enemies attack you, two at a time. After taking them out you head to the right around the low wall there to finally reach Col. Vanek himself. Its time to confront this bastard, activate the computer screen to start the decontamination. Once it has finished press the green button to the right to open the door.

Keep on hitting the melee button to melee button to bludgeon him into defenselessness but keep your eyes on the button prompt. It will eventually switch to the weapon fire button so pull that to finish this encounter. Youve almost reached Snake Fist so get ready for the final stretch here.

61

Once you enter the specimen holding area you will have a few abominations to deal with. These things arent any harder to deal with than they were in the first stages of the game so dont worry about that. If you dont have a shotgun due to picking up the Hammerhead just use slo-mo and pop them in the head/chest area with the assault rifle. Your goal here is to find the stairs up so you can make your way around to the control room.

The only complication to doing this is that as youre walking around doors will pop open in front of you to let out an abomination. This isnt a threat, or scary if youre older than twelve, so just shoot them and keep moving. Once youre inside of the control room override the lockdown at the computer but be careful when youre leaving. The creatures have a tendency of climbing all over the place so theres a fair chance that enemies will come from all sides when you step out. Now you can make your way over to the far side of specimen containment where there is another half opened door. Crouch under it and enter the door to your front and left. This leads to an armor where you can really restock up on ammunition. From here just keep on moving through the hallways and you will finally reach Snake Fist.

Snake Fist would likely get along well with Otacon the dorks.

After explaining some stuff to you, and lots of rambling, he will hand you the plasma rifle before you can head on your way. Take this weapon even if just for a short time as it can make short work of some of the Replica soldiers coming up. However you shouldnt really hold onto the weapon like its some sort of precious item, use the ammo up to kill lots of enemies and then abandon it for something with more ammo.

62

When you start heading back the way you came you will be attacked as you pass the armory. Two soldiers in the hallway with one more in the small side hallway just outside of the armory proper. If you duck behind cover a moment before shooting the energy pulse you might be able to get all of them in one single shot. Another enemy will come out just above the doorway to the specimen area so drop him (not with the pulse weapon, its a waste of ammo). You will need to get back into specimen holding so you can take the back door in the control room. Both Replica soldiers and abominations will be attacking you as you go so it might be best for you to keep out your shotgun. If you get the chance shoot at any of the explosive canisters that the Replica troops make the mistake of walking past.

Your best bet is to climb up the staircase closest to the door you came in through before making your way along the upper level to the control room. There will be about three enemies on the ground, an elite soldier with a Hammerhead near the control room and two soldiers who charge out of the control room. In many of these situations its a good idea to use the plasma rifle to kill them off quicker. Once inside the control room duck under the blast in the door to enter the second part of this facility. Climb down the ladder here and quickly take cover, there are enemies to your right shooting at you. Its a good idea to use the plasma rifle here to take out a few of them before using a shock grenade + shotgun combo to take out the rest of them since these are such tight quarters. Go into the room the enemies came from and continue along the path from here to reach an armor pick up. You will be above some more enemies in a room you were in previously so grab that before taking out the soldiers with the plasma gun.

This gun is more fun than it has any right to be. I feel like Alma.

63

Hop over the railing and make your way to the right, if you go left youre left in a really bad position to be shot at by the Replica soldiers. By going to the right youre in a much better position so start shooting at them. Topple the cabinet on your right hand side and crouch behind it for some cover. From here you can use either your assault rifle or sniper rifle to snipe off the three Replica soldiers that will be shooting at you. A few well placed shock grenades can help leave them locked in place for sniping.

Two more soldiers will rush out after youve killed the first attackers but theyre just as easily dispatched. When you start heading forward a lone soldier followed up by another pair will attack so dont stay away from cover for too long on higher difficulties. Continuing forward a soldier will attack from the left side while a power armor attacks from straight ahead. Duck into the room on your left to kill the soldier and then make liberal use of shock grenades to make taking out the power armor a breeze. Walk through the door here, snatch up the armor and medikit near the bloody trophy before continuing. The next room has a number of the Stealth Replica soldiers waiting to rip your face off. Take out your shotgun before you step inside since these guys are more easily taken out with a slo-mo + shotgun combo. You can see them coming from a distance by watching for blue shimmering silhouettes. If you hit them their stealth usually disengages and makes them all the easier to kill. Since their only form of combat is a melee attack they arent all that dangerous.

Cyborg clone ninjas? Who had this bright idea?

There are two of these schmucks to blow away as soon as you enter and a third after you walk further into the room. You can hop over the couch and into the door to your left to find some armor before you make your way down the steps to the left. 64

At the bottom of the stairs is an elevator that youre going to need to use to get out of here. Nobody will attack you while waiting for the elevator but when it arrives a Stealth Replicant will attack you from within so blow him away. You can now climb inside and ride the elevator back up to the school level. When you step out of the elevator youre in an observation room looking out into a classroom. Theres a soldier messing around out there so take a nice headshot on him.

Theres another soldier who will come running into the room or hanging around the window to the room. Wipe out these enemies before stepping out of the room. There are some Replica soldiers around the corner to the left that need to be taken out before you can escape this damnable school. One good grenade will likely take them out so that youre able to open the doors and sprint to the APC to end the level.

65

4.6 Interval 6: Deterioration 4.6.1 Chapter: Keegan After the talking and yammering youre going to have to man the turret on the APC to blow apart a small army of Replica soldiers. Frankly this is one of the most frustrating segments in the entire game. Youre stuck in one place, the APC offers no protection and your health is going to be blown the hell away. All that you can really do is try to kill the enemies before they kill you first. You will be freely using up your health kits during this section especially on the hard difficulty.

I say we leave Keegan to his own devices.

The first wave of enemies is near the crack in the ground that the APC plummeted down through so aim there. But over time more of them will start attacking from further to the left ranging from just on the platform to using the train for cover. Keep on firing since the turret doesnt overheat or anything but the explosive rounds that the turret fire doesnt really have much of an explosive radius so dont rely on that. You really need to hit the enemy dead on or the wall right next to / behind them. When youve regained control of your character make sure to scour the area for any ammunition or health pick ups you can find before attempting to pursue Keegan. Once youve got all of your supplies duck under the fence after that idiot. When you follow him you will see a bright light that he disappears into so youre just going to have to head through the tunnels after him for some reason. Keep the shotgun in hand for this section as you will need it very shortly.

That flaming thing right there is a Stealth Replica.

66

The tunnel with the subway train has nothing in it except for a bunch of movement in the area. There is a medikit on the first platform but not much else there. However on the other platform you will be attacked by a Stealth soldier, kill him off before you keep moving. Leap over the turnstile and make your way to the toll booth so you can slip inside of it quickly. Two Stealth Replica will attack you on this platform but if you go into the toll both they are forced to attack from one direction causing them to die easily.

Head on up the escalators where you will be attacked by yet another Stealth coming from your right hand side. After that a second will come from roughly the same area. Start heading to the far end of this level where you have two ways to go. To your left is a vending machine you need to lift out of the way to enter the next area. Dont lift it just yet though, turn around and start walking around this level; theres another Stealth who will attack you while you try to move the vending machine if you just try to move it. After youve moved the vending machine you can pick up the two health injectors from the ground here. Head out onto the subway platform here before hopping down onto the tracks. To your right there is an armor pick-up if you need it and the way forward is to the left. At the end of this path youre going to have to fight some more Replica soldiers. This starts off with two soldiers rappelling down; one goes to the left and one goes to the right. Now make your way up onto the yellow railed walkway across from you. As you near the door here you will be attacked by an elite powered armor foe. Once hes dead you will have to kill off two more regular soldiers. Kill them and then dump the plasma rifle if youve still got it for the Hammerhead on the ground. Head through the door, take out the soldier and continue forward. You need to head to the right where theres something of a shooting gallery waiting for you.

67

The first soldier will usually rush out at you backed up by a second shortly thereafter, coming out from the right of you. Another pair will come out from further down the tunnel so be mindful of your surroundings here. Having taken all of them out look for a hand drawn sign on the wall pointing to the Pump Room as this is your destination. Keep on walking until you see a big stack of plywood in front of you in the next room, it looks like a white obstacle. There are enemies here across from you on the upper level.

The first enemy will likely stay on the upper level, you can use the explosive canisters to flush him out for a kill. However a second will likely charge your position from the lower level on your left hand side. Kill them both before moving forward. As you enter an area lit by yellowish light you will be attacked by a pair of soldiers up above you. Its easiest if you just use the Hammerhead to take them out quickly so you can keep moving. Continue along the path until you reach a pair of breaks in the wall on your right hand side. As you attempt to pass through this you will be attacked by another soldier off in the distance from you. Now make your way to the right along the metallic walkways, this will eventually lead you to a small room with a ladder you can climb down. Start walking forward from where you are and you will see Keegan walking around like a zombie across from you. Make your way over to where you see him and flip the switch here to turn off the electricity so you can head down the stairs in the previous hallway. A few phantoms will attack you as you do so, dispel them and start to leave the small room. Another phantom will be outside of the door to your left and another further to the right.

When you head down the yellow lit stairs here a phantom will be to your right so take him out and continue in this direction. In the corner are more stairs to your right, take out the phantom at the bottom of the stairs so you can head down them and forward into the corner here. A ghost will attack from the right through the shelves there so disperse him.

68

Head through the room to your left with a bunch of vertical pipes being mindful that several ghosts will attack you as you go. When you reach the far tunnel that leaves the small room you will be attacked by one near the bloody body in front of you and a second to the left hand side of you so take them out. As you head through this tunnel you will find a phantom manifesting in every corner you pass out of the dead bodies there. This continues until you reach the subway again. You can leap to the subway car from here.

Once youre inside of the car move to the right a bit before hopping down to the tracks. Walk straight across the train lines to the staircase to your left. There is a health injector as well as a Hammerhead to be picked up at the top of the staircase. Walk through all of the doors here in a straight line until you reach the dead end with some armor lying on the floor. With that in hand double back and look for the tunnel that branches off to your side. Following the tunnels will lead you to a boiler room of some sort except that the ground in the room is slightly flooded. There are heavy armor soldiers in here; theyre easily taken out via headshots with the sniper rifle. After taking out the first two soldiers another will come out from the left hand side so keep your eyes open. Take them out before swinging around the wall on your left hand side.

There are going to be two more enemies here; one in the water on your right with another on the yellow staircase above you. While youre fighting them another enemy will likely drop down into the water on your right hand side so drop him before you make your way to the far end of the room. To the left is an open fence that allows you to start heading on up the yellow stairs that the enemy was walking on. 69

When you start heading up the stairs another enemy is likely to attack you so you either shoot him or blow up the explosive canister hes standing near. Continue along the path here, watch to your left for a medikit, until you reach a ladder that will bring you back up onto a subway platform. If you wait at the starting point just near the ladder a Replica soldier will walk past your field of vision so snipe him in the head to get this party started.

Slip out of this small area and look to the left, there will likely be an enemy on the top of the stairs shooting at you. Kill him before you enter the toll booth so you can grab the armor in here. With that in hand make your way up the stairs that the soldier was on but keep your eyes on the ground level. There will be at least one soldier on the platform youre on with another pair of them coming from the tracks. Even after taking those out you will have to watch out for more enemies on the other platform across from you. There is a Hammerhead lying on a bench on the platform beneath the stairs so search for it before continuing onward. Now make your way to the subway car thats parked on the left side of the platform, climb into it and leap to the far platform. From here will have to take out three soldiers who come to the attack. With them dispatched you can head to the far end of this platform where you will see an opened fence door. Go on into that fenced off area and you will see a switch waiting to be activated. By flicking this you will shut off the electricity to the tracks allowing you to move on them. However when you do so some enemies will begin coming at you from the tracks so simply flip the switch again to kill them off once they come into view before shutting it off once again. With the powered armor and soldier taken out you can head down onto the tracks to grab the ammo but dont miss the laser on the median between the tracks. This is going to be very useful when dealing with the heavy armored troops in this area.

70

Start heading down the train tracks while watching your left side for a break in the concrete wall. Head on through that and follow the straight path through the sub areas for quite some time. Eventually you will find yourself looking down on another subway platform except this one has a bus precariously perched overlooking it. Its not dangerous or anything, it sliding and creaking like that isnt indicative of anything. Oh no.

That looks perfectly safe.

Hop over the wall using the jump button and then sprint for the subway tracks. There is no other safe spot except for the subway tracks as the impact from the bus will kill you if you arent in an entirely safe place when it tumbles down. Start walking down the subway tracks to your left while watching your side for yet another door off the tracks. Some ghosts will appear in your path as youre walking, give them a shot or two to dispel them before continuing on your way. Climb up through the subway cart that you reach to reach the upper level of the subway platform. As you walk forward you will see a coffee shop type area where an enemy is walking around. If you use the laser with some slo-mo to get a clear headshot he will die incredibly fast which saves you ammo.

After taking out the first guy another one will open the shutter on the coffee shop itself to start shooting at you. Take him out but dont go running forward since more enemies are going to come up on the right side. There are two of them coming forward with another pair hot on their heels. With them taken out you can make your way through the doors that they came through into another subway platform. Two enemies are off to your right side along with a powered armor soldier with a laser. The laser hits straight to your health so make sure to use headshots with an assault or sniper rifle to drop him fast.

71

Even as you drop those two enemies another pair of them will come after you. Find the door at the far end of this area and walk on through the back areas of the subway. You will come out onto a subway platform that was apparently used as storage. Head to the right and leap over the yellow railing onto the subway tracks. There is a strange sound so get into a corner behind one of the pillars crouched down for safety. A subway train is going to come rolling past your field of vision wiping out soldiers as it speeds down the track before crashing against another train.

Unfortunately this train will cover the entrance of a pair of soldiers further along the platform on your left hand side. Take them out, climb up onto the platform and head to the right up the stairs. You will be in a small room with nothing much in it. Turn to the door but dont go through it just yet as some enemies will come out on the yellow railed platform across from you. Take out the two of them before stepping out the door. Now you can hop over the railing onto the roof of the train here from where you can hop down to the platform itself. Head on up the stairs to the platform the enemies were coming from, be mindful of the soldier that comes out the open door to attack, and head on through the door. From here you have a straight shot for an exit to the streets.

4.6.2 Chapter: Epicenter From the place you start youre going to need to head on up the stairs out onto the street level. As soon as you do so there will be two enemies right in front of you with more of them to your right hand side. Dont relax once youve dispatched the four of them, the minute you try to proceed forward you will start seeing the red beam of a sniper. There is a sniper rifle for you to use near the armor pick-up so if you dont have one now is the time to get it. With that in hand you should have an easy time of taking out the snipers.

72

As you start making your way down the street you will have something of a shooting gallery on your hands. Other than the first sniper there are a pair of soldiers on street level and a second sniper on some scaffolding. As you approach the caved in portion of the street three more soldiers are going to come rushing at you. Take them out with your sniper rifle for ease before crossing over to the other side of the street. There is a small room with supplies on your left hand side so head on into there.

Once youre inside an enemy will come out of the theater across the street from you. As usual he is followed up by two others on the ground and a sniper up on top of the theater. Yet another soldier will come running out after taking that guy out, hes also backed up by a second one who is hanging out by the windows inside of the theater. This is going to be quite a bit of effort dancing around to take them out in the small area youre in. Heading inside of the theater provokes a power armor to come busting through the far door with a laser in hand. A shock grenade and shotgun combo is very much called for in the process of taking this schmuck out. If youre feeling wasteful you can use your own laser on his face to take him out if you dont happen to have the shotgun on hand. Either one will work just fine but the laser is a bit wasteful.

Make your way through the destroyed theater until you have to chase off Alma again. As you move through the streets you will start to pass a truck on your left. But wait, theres a mech sitting in the streets in a pool of water! Shoot the power converter off of the telephone pole to fry the guy inside of the suit but leaving the mech perfectly intact. Yay! We get to ride inside of another mech and wreck hell across the city!

73

Much like the last time you were inside of the mech there isnt much danger here. Since theres a lot of rubble in your path it might help you out if you make constant use of the thermal imaging option on your mech to spot your targets. There are also plenty powered armors in your path so be mindful when dealing with them. Retreat to a quiet location to let your shields recharge if it becomes necessary. At the end of the path you will have to fight a second mech but there isnt much strategy to this. Simply open fire with your guns non-stop, but dont let them overheat, and fire your missiles whenever theyre ready. Try to keep your gun sights trained on the mechs cockpit / face area for optimum damage. When using your missiles make sure that you keep trained on the mech so that every missile hits its target. Thats all it takes really.

After killing the final soldiers inside of the building and exiting the mech youve got a pretty uneventful trip for the rest of the level. You will see plenty of ghosts but none of them can attack you. If you look closely theyre holding themselves as if in pain which is distracting them from attacking you. Basically youre just wasting your ammunition if you start shooting at them so dont even bother. The street youre walking down is leading right towards a humongous crater in the ground. When you reach said crater at the end of the road drop into the sewer pipe and make your way to the left. At the end of this path youre going to drop down to the right to continue moving forward. Stop when you see the car and drop down to the left. Keep along this path until you drop down into the building thats upside down. Hop on into the shower to your left and hop into the hole in the ground (roof really). Walk down the hill, turn to the left and run all the way to the end of this path to find the secret tunnel that you were looking for drop down into the hole here to end this level.

74

4.6.3 Chapter: Approach Hop down the pipes to the ground floor to reach a fairly quiet place. Pick up the armor and Hammerhead before heading down the tunnels. Youll have an uneventful time of this as you move along the walkways. Climb down the ladder at the end, hop down to the ground level. Start walking through the tunnels until you reach a room where Replica soldiers attack. There are only two of them so take them out and continue along your way.

You will find yourself on a platform that seems to be a delivery tram of some sort. Find the blue and yellow control panel that you need to use to activate this bad boy. Once its started to move you will want to search it for supplies before going through the narrow hallway that connects the cars. Find a nice corner on the front car, and get ready for one of the harder sections of the game. Its best if you hang out near the panel on the front car. The Replica troops are going to ride another tram alongside yours, trying to kill you before you get to Still Island. Take out your sniper rifle so you can hopefully thin them out while theyre still on that tram. Eventually it will come up right alongside yours on equal level so that troops can start dropping down onto your tram. They will come from the very rear of the back car and the very front of the front car to attack so stay on your toes and dont let down your guard.

After a bit they will use the crane on their tram to create a bridge between the two trams. Youre going to need to take out soldiers coming from there while also taking out enemies that come from the door connecting the two trams.

75

If you find yourself running low on ammo then youre likely going to need to sneak out from behind cover and pick up their guns from the floor. After some time there will be a collision on the rails before the other tram ends up on a higher level than you. This is really bad since it allows troops to drop right onto your tram with no difficulty and they can shoot down at you even if youre behind cover. Keep taking out the enemies as they come and you will eventually have another collision.

This is a bad sight if you're on the rear car.

When this collision happens youre going to have to rush to the front car if you arent already there. Shortly after that the tram that you are riding will start to collapse so you have to run to where the rear car was. Now you can climb up onto the Replica tram but there are no less than five enemies that will attack in short order. The first will be right in front of you, the second is off to the right near the door you entered from and the other three are fairly scattered about the tram. Once again its best if you make your way to the rear of the tram and fire out at them from there. The warning alarms will start to go off after youve killed enough of them so if youre near the rear you can quickly escape to the other car. Rush to the front of this car where the control panel is and use it to regain control of the tram. Well if by regain control they mean rush wildly into a huge crash.

Start making your way out of the rubble until you drop down into a yellow railed area full of staircases and ladders. Ignore Keegan and make your way to the right side of the room where you can go up the ladder. Follow the path around this level and take the ladder up to the top level where a Stealth Replica will attack you.

76

Head through the curving tunnel, down the staircase and then head on up the other stairs. Take out your shotgun before you go down to them since a Stealth Replica will come up behind you to attack. There is a ladder here after youve gone through another curved tunnel. You can find some incendiary grenades and a plasma rifle in some supply crates here so grab those before going through the door to the left.

Keegan can be seen off in the distance on a platform that rises up as you approach him. It has to be lowered by going down to the ground level underneath it and activating the switch there. Now get onto the platform and it will begin to rise up again with you on it this time. Step off onto the platform to your left, walk down the stairs and pick up the supplies here. Make sure that you shotgun is still out since a pair of Stealths will attack you at this point. Once theyre dead you will likely fight two more of the soldiers. Walk back up the stairs and step onto the elevator you just rode. At the far end of the platform you can drop down onto a walkway. Get back under the elevator and lower it back down. This time it will come with some shipping crates that, for some reason, will let it rise up higher than it did before. Take note that this will only happen if you can no longer see Keegan anywhere in the room. When you hop off the platform onto the walkways you will see a Stealth Replica coming to the attack. Drop him as quickly as you can, make your way up the stairs at the far end of the room and wait in the corner until another Stealth soldier attacks. Kill him and run into the white light of the door.

After youre pushed out of the doors open them and head back inside. Head down the ladder, kill the Stealth thats following you and keep on going through the hallways.

77

As you head up the stairs here you will pick up some armor and reach a manual door override. Pull the switch to open the door to the final fight of this level. This area is really simple to describe but incredibly difficult to actually get through. Enemy snipers are going to be popping up all over the room as youre trying to move forward through it. Whenever they pop up youre going to take a helluva lot of damage if you dont kill them before they manage to get a shot off on you.

The first sniper is straight across from you on the upper rafters. The second is in the upper right corner of the room. After that the rest of the snipers will more often than not be along the upper right walkways of the room although they move around quite a bit trying to get clear shots on you. Youre going to have to be quick and counter snipe them before they can kill you, it only takes like four shots to kill you on most difficulties even if you have full armor and health. Once youve gotten rid of all noticeable snipers youre going to need to run across the tram here. You cant actually start it because theres an obstruction so head over to the ladder, climb on up and start moving along the walkway. This is very dangerous since the few snipers that are likely still alive can perfectly hit you with dangerous shots while still moving so use slo-mo whenever you see either an enemy or simply the targeting laser. You need to climb the ladder here and use the control panel to remove the obstruction so the tram can be ridden out of here. However doing this has the unintended side effect of calling in a large number of Replica soldiers. While you might have the high ground from which to snipe them theyre still numerous, very accurate and capable of killing you easily. The best thing to do is to keep moving around the area slowly, popping out of cover with slo-mo activated and then killing any enemies that you see. However thats not all there is to this section.

There is a staircase to the left of where the ladder you went up is that the enemies can rush up. This means that some of the enemies will actually be making their way onto your level to attack you. However many of them wont make their way up to you so youre going to have gunfire come at you from numerous directions. Head down the stairs here, killing off the soldiers as they come and grab the armor from the barrels.

Once all of the enemies have been taken out, which might take some time, you will be able to walk over to the tram and activate it. This will result in a fairly boring ride where you get back-story on Alma that anyone who played F.E.A.R. 1 will already know. At the other station youll need to head left and jump over a few containers in your way to reach the elevator that Alma blocked off after you shook her off. You can ride it into the Still Island facility after shaking Alma off once more.

4.6.4 Chapter: Climax The level starts out in an Alma hallucination flashback thingie so walk forward along the level just enough to get see what shes showing you and get out of it. Once its over follow the same path you took in the hallucination to find that tree you kept seeing in Almas hallucinations. Head through the fence to the left and climb down the ladder into the sub-levels of the facility. In the sewer hop over the break in the grating to the left.

Walk to the end of the sewer drainage pipe that youre in and hop out through the grate here to reach a showdown with some enemy soldiers. This area is one of the final fights of the game and as such is a fairly long battle. There are a lot of soldiers and they come out in a fairly rag tag manner (i.e. one here, two there, one here, three there and so on).

There is ammo, grenade and armor pick ups as soon as you jump out of the grate so grab those. Now turn to the right and head through the grates there to reach an open area with plenty of enemies moving around. From where you are inside of this drain area if you take out the sniper rifle you can shoot at least three or four enemies without stepping outside. You can head outside now, past where the enemies were, to find more soldiers.

To your right hand side the soldiers will be running around using the pillars as cover or the fences off to the side. Keep on moving to the right taking out any enemies that are left in your path. After you pass through the open fence door you will be attacked by another pair of soldiers, drop them and follow the path to the right. Making your way around you will see two more soldiers on a raised platform; take them out so you can head on over to the APC that Morales is hanging out in. Climb on into the APC so you can use the turret to take out the soldiers that are coming to try and take you out. This is basically the final fight of the game so feel free to use your health and ammunition as much as you like. Dont bother getting into the turret until you really find yourself needing to do so. Its actually a fair bit safer if you stay out of the APC. Also do not forget about the fact that you can still use your slo-mo ability.

After the fighting head on inside of the door that was blocked off before. Press the button there to cycle the airlock which starts the next Interval.

4.7 Interval 7: Union The other door will open so head on through to meet up with Stokes. Press the button in the elevator so you can ride it up. Start walking around the outside of the level until you reach yet another airlock, cycle this so you can reach the control chamber. Once you reach the amplifier chamber activate the control panel to start up the amplifier. Walk on over to the amplifier and strap yourself in to start up a whole bunch of conversation.

Hey she's actually kinda cu... augh! Get it away!

This final fight isnt all that difficult really; all it requires you to do is get to the amplifier control panel wherever it appears and pull the switch. While youre trying to do this you will be getting attacked by Keegan who seems to have been rather horrifically burnt all over his body. Take out your assault rifle and be ready to use slo-mo to keep him from teleporting all over the place while you dispel him with a few shots to the head / torso. When you activate the control panel it will teleport away from you and recharge your armor. Now you can make your way over to the machine and use it again. When you go to do this the third time you will have to dispatch of Keegan the same way that you did Vanek earlier. Finally defeating him allows you to pull the switch for the final time.

Congrats, you have completed Project Origin. Now sit back, enjoy the ending and be incredibly, incredibly disturbed at the implications. 81
