WHAT YOULL NEED
To perform this task you will need the DCSE Server Foundations 6.0 CD. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. Step 6. Step 7. Insert the DCSE Server Foundations 6.0 CD into your workstations CD-ROM drive. The CD will automatically load and display the Welcome page. Click the Disassembly/Reassembly Labs hyperlink in the left navigation menu under the heading Classroom Labs to expand the node. Click the Lab 1 Disassembly and Reassembly hyperlink in the left navigation menu. In the main page, click the PowerEdge 2650 hyperlink. Click the Removal and Replacement of FRUs (Field Replaceable Units) hyperlink in the left navigation menu. Use the hyperlinks in the table under the heading FRU and the left navigation menu to explore the various Disassembly and Reassembly procedures for the various FRUs.

Hover over Product Support in the upper left side of the page In the dropdown menu, click Downloads.

In the bottom right side of the download page under the Search Keyword or Filename heading, type Dell Rack Advisor Utility in the Search For: text box. Click the blue arrow to execute the search.
Step 7. Step 8.
To sort the search results by date, click the word Date in the search results column header. This will sort the list so that the newest results appear first. Locate the most recent version of the Dell Rack Advisor utility. The current version should be listed at the top of the search results page as the results have been sorted by date in the previous step. (Version 5.0 of Rack Advisor, dated 3/1/2004, was the current version of this tool at the time this document was printed.)

Step 12. Click I agree on the Export Compliance Disclaimer page. Step 13. Save the file to your Desktop. Step 14. Close your web browser. Step 15. Execute the Rack Advisor self-extracting executable on your Desktop.
Step 18. Allow the utility to create the default folder by clicking OK.

Step 20. Windows Explorer will automatically open a window containing the extracted files.

Once the Dell Rack Advisor utility has started, select PE Rack 4210 (standalone) from the list of racks on the left side of the tool and add it to your workspace by dragging and dropping the rack into your workspace or double-clicking the rack.

Click the Peripherals tab in the upper left of the screen and add the following components to you rack: - 1U Flatpanel Display with Keyboard (found under the Monitors category) - DLA3000RM 2U (found under the UPSs category) - 1x8 Console Switch (1U) (found under the Switch Boxes category)

If a default Windows printer has not been configured on your computer, you will need to add a printer to view the Report Preview. See your instructor to resolve this issue. USE SYSTEM SETUP TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SERVERS HARDWARE AND FIRMWARE CONFIGURATION
Step 1. Step 2. Reboot your server and press F2 during POST to enter system setup. Identify the BIOS version number. System BIOS Version: Step 3. Identify the Service Tag of your server. Service Tag: Step 4. Clear the NVRAM. Once in the system setup utility, press NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK on your keyboard. Verify that the NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK indicators are illuminated on your keyboard. Press ALT+E on your keyboard to clear your NVRAM. The server will issue a confirmation beep when the NVRAM is cleared. Deactivate NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK by pressing the corresponding keys on your keyboard. Verify that the NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK indicators are not illuminated on your keyboard. Press ALT+F on your keyboard to reset the default bios settings of your server. The server will issue a confirmation beep. Press ESC on your keyboard to exit the system setup utility. When prompted, select Save & Exit.

Step 10. Verify that the BIOS update was successful by comparing the current BIOS version with the BIOS version you recorded at the beginning of this lab. Previous BIOS: Current BIOS:

Step 10. Click Close. Step 11. In the ESM folder on your Desktop, right-click the file named SMFLSH*.EXE. In the filename example above, the asterisk (*) represents a number. E.g., SMFLSH4.EXE. If you are working with an 8th generation PowerEdge server (PowerEdge 1850 or PowerEdge 2850), the file name will be bmcfl16d.exe. Step 12. Choose Send To, 3 Floppy (A:) from the context menu. Step 13. In the ESM folder on your Desktop, right-click the file named SMFLSH*.DAT. (The .DAT filename will correspond to the .EXE filename.) If you are working with an 8th generation PowerEdge server (PowerEdge 1850 or PowerEdge 2850), the file name will be bmcflsh.dat.

Step 14. Choose Send To, 3 Floppy (A:) from the context menu. Step 15. Close the ESM folder. Step 16. Remove the bootable floppy from your workstation.
Table of Contents
You have successfully copied the ESM update files to your bootable floppy. Perform the following steps on your server. Step 17. Place your bootable floppy containing the ESM update files in your servers A:\ drive. Step 18. Reboot your server. Step 19. At the command prompt, type SMFLSH, SMFLSH2, SMFLSH4 or BMCFL16D and press ENTER. This will begin the ESM firmware update. The list that appears on screen will show the current firmware versions in the left column and the version to which they will be upgraded in the right column. Step 20. Press Y, ENTER to continue. Perform a re-flash before rebooting if the Current Firmware Version column shows "0.00"; otherwise, the system will not boot. Step 21. When the ESM update is complete, remove the bootable floppy disk from your servers Floppy Disk Drive. Step 22. Typically, you would reboot your server to complete the ESM update process. Because the next lab begins with a server reboot, do not reboot at this time.

vi. Click Start. vii. Click OK at the warning dialog to create the bootable floppy. viii. Click OK when you receive the Format Complete information dialog. ix. Close the format utility dialog by clicking Close. x. Close My Computer. You have successfully created a bootable floppy disk using Windows XP.

b. Using the Dell Bootable DOS Diskette for CD-ROM Support utility: i. Go to http://premiersupport.dell.com. ii. Navigate to the Downloads section of the Premier Support website. iii. In the lower right of the Downloads page under the heading Search Keyword or Filename, type CDENAB in the search text box. iv. Click to execute the search. v. Click the hyperlink for the CDENAB utility. vi. Click the CDENAB.EXE hyperlink. vii. Click the Download Now Using HTTP hyperlink. viii. When prompted, choose to save the file to your Desktop. ix. Insert a blank floppy disk into your workstations A:\ drive. x. Double-click the CDENAB.EXE file on your Desktop xi. At the prompt, click Setup. xii. A DOS window will open; press ENTER to continue. xiii. Press ENTER again to create the bootable floppy. xiv. A warning message will appear to prevent you from accidentally overwriting content on the floppy. If you are sure you do not need the information on the floppy in the floppy drive, type Y. xv. Press ENTER. xvi. When the utility has finished creating the bootable floppy, press ENTER at the prompt. You have successfully created a bootable floppy disk using the CDENAB utility.

c. Using the DSA CD: i. Insert the DSA CD into the CD-ROM drive of your server or workstation. ii. DSA will start automatically. If the DSA does not start automatically, run the setup.exe file located in the root of the CD-ROM drive. iii. Select your server and operating system. iv. Click Continue.
v. On the Utilities and Drivers page, locate the table labeled Utility Programs. vi. In the Utility Programs table, locate the System Utilities sub-heading.

vii. Click the Dell: Bootable Diskette with Asset Tag Utility (Utility) A03 (Diskette Creation Pack) hyperlink.
viii. Save the utility to your desktop. ix. Close DSA. x. Insert a blank floppy disk into the diskette drive of your server or workstation. xi. Locate the utilitys executable file on your desktop. xii. Execute the file. xiii. Click Continue.
You have successfully created a bootable floppy disk using the DSA CD.

Press F2 during POST to enter the BIOS settings. Select Integrated Devices. Press ENTER. Set Embedded RAID Controller to RAID Enabled. Press ENTER. Press ESC. Select Save Changes and Exit.
Step 10. Press ENTER. Step 11. The server will now reboot. Step 12. When prompted, press Y to confirm the change to RAID. Step 13. When prompted, press Y to verify the change to RAID. Step 14. At the A:\ prompt, type afu and press ENTER. Step 15. Select Update Flash Image. Step 16. Follow the prompts. Step 17. When the firmware update process is complete, remove the floppy disk. Step 18. Reboot the server.

Computer Name: Type in the name of your server f. Installation Directory: Accept default value g. License Type: Select Per Seat h. Select Join Workgroup and type Workgroup Additional options, such as identifying a network patch for the Windows Service Pack installation file may be accessed by clicking Advanced.. Step 18. Click Continue. Step 19. Review the Operating System Installation Summary Step 20. Ensure Eject CD Automatically is selected. Step 21. Click Continue. Step 22. The Operating System Installation routine begins. Step 23. When prompted by DSA, insert the OS installation CD. Step 24. Click Continue. Step 25. Remove the operating system installation CD. Step 26. Click Finish to reboot and continue the installation.

Step 27. If prompted by Windows Setup for a name and organization, enter the following values: a. Name: Enter your name. b. Organization: DSCM Step 28. Click Next. Step 29. If prompted by Windows Setup for a computer name and administrator password, enter the following values: a. Computer Name: Enter the name of your server. If you are unsure of your servers assigned name, ask your instructor. b. Administrator Password: dell (all lowercase) c. Confirm Password: dell (all lowercase) Step 30. Click Next. Step 31. Installation will continue. The process will take several minutes. Monitor the process for any errors or requests for additional user input.

Step 16. Right click My Network Places and select Properties. (Alternately, open the Windows Control panel and right click the Network Connections applet.) The new team will be listed as a network connection and identified as Team #0 Adapter Fault Tolerance Mode. If required, you may use standard Windows configuration settings to assign a static IP Address to the team or make other changes to the properties of the team. Essentially, the team is treated the same as any other network connection.
You have now successfully created and configured a NIC Team using the Intel PROSet utility.
