Q. What are the differences between Development package, Development Only package, and Runtime package? A. The Development package allows the user to develop and execute the application for unlimited time. The Development Only package allows the user to develop the application, test it for up to 72 continuous hours and deploy it in a station where the runtime license is installed. The Runtime package allows the user to execute the application for unlimited time, and blocks the development tools, so the user cannot create new applications or modify existing ones. Q. What is the difference between the platforms supported by InduSoft Web Studio? A. The Windows platform includes the Microsoft operating systems for Desktop/Server, such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2003 Server, and Windows 2008 Server. The Windows Embedded platform includes the Microsoft operating systems for HMI panels and embedded devices, such as Windows XPe, and Windows Embedded Standard. The Windows Embedded CE platform includes the Microsoft operating systems for HMI panels, embedded and mobile devices running Windows CE or Windows Mobile 6.5. Q. What is the platform for development? A. The development environment of Indusoft Web Studio supports the Windows platform only. Q. Can I split a Development license in two physical licenses (Development Only and Runtime)? A. Yes. Please note that if you decide to use the Hardkey(s) instead of Softkey, the Hardkey(s) for each installation must be purchased separately. Q. Can I use either Softkey or Hardkey for development and runtime? A. Yes. The Hardkey for Windows Embedded and Windows Embedded CE is different from the Hardkey for Windows platform. Typically, development licenses are installed in Hardkeys to facilitate the portability of the license to different computers, while runtime licenses are typically installed as Softkeys. However, the user has the choice to use either Hardkey or Softkey for any license. Hardkeys are sold separately. Q. Can I upgrade my license remotely? A. Yes. Either Hardkeys or Softkeys can be upgraded remotely via a unique code of each license. Just follow the following steps to upgrade a license on the Windows platform: - Close all modules of InduSoft Web Studio (development and runtime) - Execute the Register module (Windows button > All Programs > InduSoft Web studio > Register) - Select the license method (either Softkey or Hardkey) and click on the Check button. If you selected Hardkey, please make sure that the Hardkey is connected to the computer before clicking on the Check button. - Click on the Change License button. - Copy the Site Code and send it to your software vendor (usually, by email), along with the NS number of the license (unique serial number provided along with the license in a green sticker). - After receiving the Site Key from your software vendor, type it in the Site Key field (from the same dialog where the Site Code was copied from) and click on the Authorize button. If you want to upgrade a Hardkey, make sure that it is connected to the device. - Run InduSoft Web Studio (development environment) on the Windows platform. - Open the Remote Management dialog (Home > Connect) from InduSoft Web Studio, type the IP Address of the target (runtime) device in the Network IP field and click on the Connect button. - Upon connection, select the Embedded License tab from the Remote Management dialog, copy the Site Code and send it to your software vendor (usually, by email), along with the NS number of the license (unique serial number provided along with the license in a green sticker). - After receiving the Site Key from your software vendor, type it in the Site Key field (from the same dialog where the Site Code was copied from) and click on the Send button. Q. How does InduSoft Web Studio count the number of Thin Clients? A. The license for the Thin Clients resides on the Server station only where InduSoft Web Studio is running. The license is not installed in any Thin Client station. The license on the Server controls the maximum number of Thin Clients connected to the Server simultaneously. You can customize the license on the server to support a different number of Thin Clients of each type (Web Thin Client, Secure Viewer Thin Client, and SMA Thin Client). Q. How the drivers supported by each license level are counted by InduSoft Web Studio? A. InduSoft Web Studio limits the maximum number of different drivers configured simultaneously in the same application. Each driver implements a protocol and uses one physical port of the station where the application runs. For example, in order to exchange data with 10 PLCs that support the same protocol (e.g.: Modbus over TCP/IP), you just need one driver (one protocol and one Ethernet port). However, in order to exchange data with two PLCs via two different serial ports of the computer, you need two communication drivers, even if both PLCs support the same protocol. If more drivers are required, please contact InduSoft. Q. How the tags supported by each license level are counted by InduSoft Web Studio? A. Each tag is a variable capable of holding an independent value, such as PressureTankA, TemperatureOver1, StateMotorC, and so forth. The following rules apply for InduSofts tag count: - The tags created by the user (Application or Project tags) are counted against the license limit. However, the System Tags, created automatically for any project, are not counted against the license tag limit (e.g.: Time, Date, UserName, and so forth). - The tag count does not depend on the data type supported by each tag (Boolean, Integer, Real, or String). - The same tag can be configured in many interfaces and it still counts as only one tag. For example, the same tag can be configured on Screens, Trend worksheets, Alarm worksheets, Driver worksheets, OPC worksheets, and so forth, and it still counts as one tag. - Any tag created on the project (Application/Project tags) are counted against the license limit, even if they are not linked to an external device (e.g.: PLC) via communication drivers, OPC, or any other task. In other words, as soon as the tag is configured in the application, it is counted against the license limit. - VBScript variables are commonly used to manipulate temporary values used in calculations. VBScript variables can be used in any VBScript interface of the product (VBScript tasks, Global Procedures, Graphic Scripts, Screen Scripts, and so forth) and they do not count against the license tag limit. - Each array position counts as one tag because it holds an independent value. For example, a tag configured with 3 array elements counts as three tags (Tag[0], Tag[1], and Tag[2]). - Each member of a class tag counts as one tag because it holds an independent value. For example, a class tag with 2 members counts as two tags (Tag.MemberA and Tag.MemberB). - Class tags configured as arrays count as the number of array positions multiplied by the number of members. For example, a class tag with 2 members and configured with 3 array elements counts as six tags (Tag[0].MemberA, Tag[1].MemberA, Tag[2].MemberA, Tag[0].MemberB, Tag[1].MemberB, and Tag[2].MemberB). Q. What is the NS number of green sticker number? A. It is a unique serial number that identifies your license. It is very important to keep this number in a safe place, since it will be necessary to conduct any maintenance for your license, including upgrades.

Q. Can I avoid shipping when purchasing the product? A. Yes. You can download the product from the InduSofts web site and require a Softkey license (Site Key), along with the NS number, via email. Q. What I receive when I purchase a license? A. You will receive a box with the following items: - The Certificate of Authenticity, including the InduSoft hologram and a unique NS number, which identifies your license. INDUSOFT LICENSE AGREEMENT YOU SHOULD CAREFULLY READ THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS! Opening and using the enclosed SOFTWARE for any purpose indicates your acceptance of the terms and conditions of this license agreement. If you do not agree with them you should return all SOFTWARE, documentation and copy protection keys within seven days of shipment unopened and your money will be refunded. InduSoft provides this program and licenses its use in the United States, Puerto Rico, or internationally. You assume the responsibility for the selection of the program to achieve your intended results, and for the installation, use and results obtained from this program. LICENSE Grant of License You are granted a personal license to use this program under the terms stated in this Agreement. You may: 1) Install and use the program on a single machine. 2) Make archival back-up copies of the program for the sole purpose of supporting your use of the single program on a single machine. 3) You may not use, copy, modify, or transfer the program, or transfer any copy, in whole or in part, except as expressly provided in this license, or with a written contractual agreement with InduSoft Business Development Inc. (dba: InduSoft). 4) You agree that you may not reverse assemble, reverse compile, or otherwise translate the SOFTWARE. This License Agreement does not convey to you an interest in or to the SOFTWARE, but only a limited right of use revocable in accordance with the terms of this License Agreement. LIMITATION OF REMEDIES InduSoft's entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be the replacement of any CD-ROM or diskette not meeting InduSofts Limited Warranty which is returned to InduSoft with a copy of your receipt within the warranty period. INDUSOFT RETURN POLICY All sales are final (NO RETURNS) unless one of the following conditions is applicable: 1) The SOFTWARE is returned in its unopened, original packaging material within 7 days after shipment. In such a case, a full refund is provided, less all incurred shipping and handling costs. 2) The CD-Rom, DVD, or any other media, the entire disk package, and all documentation, packaging and other items which accompanied the SOFTWARE at purchase, are returned within 30 days from the date of purchase as evidenced by yoru receipt.
