the year which attracted over 3,000 participants from across the globe.

I was truly jovial when my friend Ashkan
Shakiba’s offered me to go on a QVI

holiday using his membership. Without
much consideration I quickly decided to
go to Goa, India together with my friends
during the Iranian New Year holiday. We
stayed at an XchangeWorld associated
resort, Royal Goan Beach Club at Haathi
Mahal. The hotel was very nice and
provided excellent service!
The moment we reached Goa, we were
amazed by the natural beauty of
its beaches. But Goa indeed has a lot
more than that! We went for a one-day
t o u r t o Ta m b d i S u r l a a n d h a d a n
unforgettable experience as we went on
elephant riding, walked the jungle trail
and visited the Shri Mahadev Temple.
We spent the eve of the Iranian New Year
at one of the beach bars and met a lot of
other Iranians. We truly had a great fun!
I t f e l t l i ke t h e w h o l e o f I n d i a w a s
celebrating with us as there were
fireworks that evening. We found out
that the fireworks were actually meant
for ce l e b ra t i n g t h e H i n d u C a r n i va l
which also falls in March. It would take
me the whole page if I were to describe
all the excitements we had during our
stay in Goa, but all in all our experience
was superb!

our recent one-week vacation in Bali
– WOW!
The trip was a dream come true for me
and my second son, Gokul!
As a true animal lover, my son is an avid
fan of the television programme, Animal
Planet and is particularly interested in
Komodos (a type of reptile) and has
always wanted to see it in real life. My
son was in total euphoria when he finally
got to see the reptile at the Bali Zoo and
started to take snaps of it from various
different angles! As for me, my dream of
going water rafting was finally fulfilled
as I took the whole family to our first
water rafting adventure through a 12Km
course which was exhilarating and
literally breathtaking!
We are very happy with our decision to
stay at Rama Candidasa, an

Beautiful and elegant rooms coupled
with great facilities and top notch service
made our stay there a truly memorable

I went to Bangkok in November 2006
and stayed at Elegance Suites Hotel,
o n e o f t h e QV I H o m e R e s o r t s . T h e

the service given was excellent. I had a
great time in Bangkok and managed to
visit a number of places of interest such
as The Crocodile Farm, Tiger Temple
and the numerous shopping markets
that dotted the city. On one of the
evenings, I decided to go for a cruise.

Q Lifestyle Team Joins
the Grandest V-Con Ever!
With great enthusiasm and eagerness, the Q Lifestyle team arrived in Jakarta to
prepare for the most anticipated event of the year! The excitement built up as the
days progressed and as preparations came to their final stage. It was amazing to
witness the vast empty hall of the Jakarta Convention Center suddenly turn into
a massive ocean of over 3,000 exuberant IRs as they streamed in to check out the
exhibition booths on the first day. The eye-catching Q Lifestyle booth was packed
with participants who eagerly enquired about Q Lifestyle products, bought various
merchandise for their loved ones, watched a demonstration on the wonders of the
Ch’i Energy Pendant or simply browsed around collecting marketing collaterals.

As the event unrolled, participants were surprised with impromptu activities such
as the Crazy Hour Sale during which Q Lifestyle merchandise was sold at heavily
discounted prices. To add to the excitement, a Lucky Draw Contest took place which
offered those who spent USD50 or above at the booth a raffle ticket and the chance

After a week of excitement, inspiration and discovery, V-Jakarta came to an end.

THE NEW AIR-TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

I
n the new world, the scary one where terrorism is a daily
reality, we must all adapt to new regulations and security
measures to ensure our safety. While standing in line at the
airport, the extra checks may be a hassle to some, but think
about what could happen if we didn’t have to go through all
this. To make your security check more bearable, Navigator
explains the new air travel regulations so you can be prepared
before-hand.

Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels
and aerosols in their carry-on bag when
going through security checkpoints,
provided they are in a see-through plastic
ziploc bag.
With certain exceptions for
prescr i p t i o n a n d ove r- t h e - co u n t e r
medicines, baby formula and breast milk,
and other essential liquids, gels, and
aerosols, the following rules apply to all
liquids, gels, and aerosols you want to
carry through a security checkpoint.
All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in

three-ounce or smaller container. Larger
containers that are half-full or
rolled-up toothpaste tubes are not
allowed. Each container must be three
ounces or smaller.
All liquids, gels and aerosols must be
placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top,
clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or
bags that are not zip-top such as
fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed.
Each traveler can use only one,
quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
Each traveler must remove their
quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from
their carry-on and place it in a bin or on
the conveyor belt for X-ray screening.
X-raying separately will allow Security
Officers to more easily examine the
declared items.
Please keep in mind that these rules were
developed after extensive research and
understanding of current threats. They
are intended to help air travelers bring
essential toiletries and other liquids,
gels and aerosols for short trips. If you
need larger amounts of liquids, gels and
aerosols such as toothpaste or
shampoo, please place them in your
check-in luggage.
To ensure the health and welfare of
travelers, in the absence of suspicious
activity or items, amounts greater than
3 ounces of the following liquids, gels
and aerosols are permitted through the
s e c u r i t y c h e c k p o i n t i n re a s o n a b l e
quantities for the duration of your
itinerary (all exceptions must be
presented to the security officer in front
of the checkpoint):
Baby formula and breast milk if a baby or
small child is traveling; All
p re s c r i p tion and over-the-counter
medications (liquids, gels, and aerosols)
including KY jelly, eye drops, and saline
solution for medical purposes;
Liquids including water, juice, or liquid
nutrition or gels for passengers with a
disability or medical condition;
Life-support and life-sustaining liquids
such as bone marrow, blood products,
and transplant organs; Items used to
augment the body for medical or
cosmetic reasons such as mastectomy
products, prosthetic breasts, bras or
shells containing gels, saline solution, or
other liquids; and, Gels or frozen liquids
needed to cool disability or medically
related items used by persons with
disabilities or medical conditions.
You are allowed reasonable amounts
over 3 ounces of the above listed items in
your carry-on baggage, but you will need
to perform the following:
• Separate these items from the liquids,
gels, and aerosols in your quart-size and
zip-top bag.
• Declare you have the items to one of
the Security Officers at the security
checkpoint.
• Present these items for additional
inspec tion once reaching the X-ray
machines. These items are subject to
additional screening.
Steps have also been taken to ensure the
security of the boarding areas after you
pass through the security checkpoints.
Therefore, any liquid, gel or aerosol, such
as coffee or soda, purchased in the
secure area beyond the security
checkpoint is allowed aboard your plane.
Please note that if you have a layover
and are re-screened at your connecting
airport the current rules (see above) for
carry-on bags apply.

cosmetics and personal hygiene items as
such lipstick, lip balm and similar solids.
Offer your cooperation in the screening
process by being prepared before you
arrive. Pack liquids, gels, and aerosols in
your check-in baggage even if you do not
normally check a bag.
In addition to liquids, gels, and aerosols
numerous other potentially dangerous
items are not permitted in carry-on
baggage. Travelers should read more
about previously prohibited items to
avoid complications during screening.

ver the years, the society we live in has become more modern and tech-savvy. As more
players in the technology industry join the battle field to gain some share of the pie, it is
not difficult to find such gadgets at a price that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
Laptops, for example, are becoming so competitively priced these days that practically anyone
can own one. So if you intend to buy a sleek thin laptop with the latest specifications or if you
already have one, the following tips could be useful to ensure your laptop lasts longer!

1 Do not operate in extreme cold or heat

Your laptop is sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Hot or cold weather can warp the case, ruin components and damage batteries.

2 Do not leave your laptop in a car for extended periods of time

Leaving your laptop in a car can expose it to temperature stresses and to theft. Intense heat can warp the case or ruin
internal components.

3 Operate at room temperature

When moving from the cold, allow your laptop to reach room temperature before operating. The display needs to be at room
temperature to function properly. Laptops will form condensation when subjected to temperature change which can damage the
laptop if it is turned on whilst the condensation has not evaporated from the internal components yet. CD’s (music or CD-ROM)
can also form condensation, so let them warm up before using them in the laptop.

4 Keep your laptop out of areas where it may get wet

Water damages the laptop’s components and also introduces a shock hazard. Do not turn on your laptop when it is wet.

In the event of water spilling onto the keyboard:

• Quickly shut off the power and remove the plug from the wall socket.

• Remove the battery and quickly turn your laptop over with the keyboard facing down as shown. The reason is because the hard
disk in most laptops is located at the bottom, hence this method will prevent water from seeping into the hard disk. This may not
save your laptop but it may save your data.

• Leave your laptop in this manner for 24 hours to let the water dry inside.

• Send laptop for repair.

• Place power cables where they cannot be stepped on or tripped over.

Carelessly laid cables could send you and your laptop flying.

• Avoid areas with a lot of dust or smoke

Both dust and smoke can damage your laptop. The laptop’s internal fan draws
a lot of air through the computer. Buildup of any sort can short circuit
sensitive connections.

It’s hard to think that just ten years ago, Malaysia was a dusty little backwater in
Asia when it came to tourism. Today, Malaysia ranks second in Asia for tourist
arrivals (behind China) and has transformed itself into a multi-cultural travel
destination with plentiful resorts, activities and places to visit.

Kuala Lumpur, or KL as it’s known in the region, has transformed itself from
absolutely nothing to a gleaming bustling city with modern skyscrapers and a
distinct local flavour.
There is plenty to explore in KL, from the sacred Batu caves to
its colonial architecture, from its boisterous Chinatown section
filled with street vendors and night markets, to its colourful
Little India. Local museums, mosques, temples, and huge
mega-malls abound giving visitors plenty of choice of places to

go, and things to see, do, and eat.
Kuala Lumpur came into being in the late 1860’s when it was
founded by a band of prospectors in search of tin. The village
started at the meeting point of the Kelang and Gombak rivers
and the name Kuala Lumpur means “Muddy Confluence” in the
local Malay language, not a name befitting the modern, vibrant
city that now stands in its place.
From its humble, noisy and sometimes violent beginnings, KL
has always been a survivor. Through its early Chinese
uprising, the British Colonial period and onwards to modern
KL, the traces of its past in its architecture, people and customs
stand as a reminder of its ability to change with the times yet
keep its identity distinct and pure.
With its abundance of cultures and religions, Malaysia, and KL
in particular, has a potpourri of festive occasions and holidays
for tourists to join or observe. While some occur on the same
day every year, others follow the lunar calendar and the
dates and events change each year, so it is always best to
check with the tourism board if you plan to visit during one of
the many festivals.
Some of the local festivals and holidays you can view or take
part in are:
Thaipusam - The Indian festival where devotees of Lord
Subramaniam prove their faith, make amends or seek
blessings by piercing their bodies with metal spikes and hooks
and carrying elaborate cages and decorations, some weighing
over 50kg, in a parade to their temple. While to the outsider
this may look medieval and painful, devotees claim they feel no
pain but only slight discomfort.
Chinese New Year - Celebrations involve food, fireworks,
lion dances and dragon dances and are most vibrant in KL’s
Chinatown section. The New Year usually falls anywhere from
late January to late February and is quite a spectacle. This is
also a very popular time to visit Asia and KL in particular.
Deepavali - The Indian festival of light, marked by tiny oil
l a m p s o u t s i d e t h e h o m e s o f H i n d u fa m i l i e s t o e n t i ce
Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, inside. Deepavali is best
celebrated in the Little India section where street fairs clog
the roads and sell all sorts or Indian crafts, food, clothing
and Jewellery. Most tourists love to get henna painted on
their hands, which is a temporary Indian tattoo featuring
elaborate and beautiful designs which fade away after
1 - 2 weeks.

City Day - On February 1st of every year, KL commemorates
becoming a federal territory and celebrations take place at
Tasik Perdana and Lake Titiwangsa in the north of the city.
Flora Fest - This deliriously colourful festival takes place in July
every year with KL blooming with a multitude of colours. The
Festival includes floral exhibitions and culminates with the
International Floral Parade, a sight to truly behold.
National Day - Malaysia celebrates its national day from
midnight August 30th where crowds gather at Merdeka
Square for fireworks and festivities, followed the next morning
by parades, usually at Commonwealth Stadium.
Colours Of Malaysia - Celebrated for two weeks in
September, this festival embraces everything Malaysian. Rich
cultural shows and exhibits happen all around town
fe a t u r i n g c ra f t s , p e r fo r m a n ce s a n d fo o d g a l o re .
Kuala Lumpur not only has plenty of interesting festivals
and holidays to partake in, but its multi-cultural roots
have produced a score of fabulous places to see and visit.
Soaring modern edifices compete for space next to
colonial buildings and lush, spacious parks. Street markets,
galleries, museums, cafes, food stalls and huge shopping
complexes give the adventurous tourist plenty of reasons
to explore the cities back alleys and side streets.
Some of the more popular tourist destinations in KL are:
Petronas Towers - Currently the world’s second tallest
building at 88 stories, it is designed based on an eight-sided
star, a design that echoes the arabesques found in Islamic art.
A sky-bridge connects the two towers at the 41st floor
giving those who travel up to it a spectacular view of the city.
Be forewarned though, there is a set quota for visitors per day,
so get there around 9am to avoid disappointment.
The Lake Garden - In the Jalan Parlimen area of KL, these
92-hectare gardens were once home to the ranking British
official and there is plenty of natural splendor to enjoy. You can
expect to find a butterfly park, planetarium, insect museum,

its confines, giving nature lovers and those seeking solitude
from the bustle of KL a place to lazily relax. Make a day
of it, pack a picnic for your family and hire a boat to sail on
Tasik Perdana Lake.
Batu Caves - The Batu Caves comprise of numerous caverns,
some rarely explored and off-limits, some filled with large
limestone outcrops, stalactites and stalagmites, cave fauna,
and other underground wonders, many of which are Hindu
temples to various deities. The most famous of these is the
Sri Subramaniam Temple which takes up the main cave and
holds one of Hindu’s holiest shrines to Lord Subramaniam. A
272-step concrete staircase leads from outside the caves to
the temple cave, while a cave gallery lies at the foot of the cave
complex featuring clay figurines and wall paintings of Hindu
mythology. Admission to the caves is free, and while you would
expect the caves to be way outside of town in the jungle (they
were at one time), KL has expanded itself right to the base of
the caves, so travel is minimal.
A happening, modern city like KL surely has to have a variety of
nightlife available to suit everyone’s taste and it doesn’t
disappoint. Modern clubs, night markets and other delights
abound to tempt the senses and your wallet, so why not head
out and enjoy some of the local flavours while you’re in town?
Do however be warned that KL’s nightlife does shut down
rather early compared with other countries, so expect to be out
no later than 2am.
Some of KL’s favourite nightspots include:
Tiff’s Jazz Lounge - Found along Jalan Bukit Bintang, this club
specializes in jazz, blues, acid jazz and chillout music to help
wind you down after a hard day pushing the pavement. The
surreal decor of this lounge will make you think you’ve gone
down a rabbit hole and are sitting at the Mad Hatter’s tea
party. Colours clash, installation art amazes and lasers dance
as the DJ or band start their groove.
Zouk - This infamous Singaporean club recently opened a
branch in KL and plays all the tracks you’d expect from a
world-renowned club. House, trance and disco throb from
within its amoeba shaped confines. There are a few different
spaces to choose from within its walls, each distinctly different,
giving visitors the choice to drift from one to another. The main
room is a 2-level space adorned with plastic palm trees and
world-class lighting, while other areas like Velvet Underground
are a disco-house mirror ball extravaganza. The loft is a
smaller bar area that’s edgier and more experimental in its
sounds (expec t cutting edge elec tronica, alternative,
electro-clash, industrial and eighties) to be spun here, while
KL’s youth hang at the Terrace Bar by the main entrance.
Zouk can be found along Jalan Ampang and its opening hours
vary depending on which international DJ, band or event is
playing that particular evening.

down there either, with plenty of variety, from street markets to
mega malls in which to part with your Rupiah.
Check out these buying havens for some interesting finds,
selections and bargains:
Central Market - Stroll on down to this venue, located in a
cavernous art-deco building on Jalan Hang Kasturi where you
can find all kids of craft outlets, souvenir shops, clothing and
antiques. Some of the items are a bit over-priced but haggling
is welcomed so sharpen up your bargaining skills before
heading down.
The Mid Valley Mega Mall - This humungous complex has
got everything you can imagine. With 300-plus stores, unique
items and branded goods are not hard to find. The mall also
boasts an 18-screen cinema, bowling alley, Carrefour
hyper-mart and an enormous food court for your local dining
needs. The new KL Komuter Mid-Valley station makes getting
here extremely easy and there is also a free shuttle bus service
to Bangsar station.
Suria KLCC - For an upscale shopping experience there is no
better place than the KLCC. Located at the foot of the Petronas
Towers, the KLCC offers you exclusive international fashion and
electronics brands as well as numerous toy shops for the kids.
No matter what your budget, KL has something for everyone.
No visit to any foreign destination is complete without savoring
the local delicacies, and KL is no exception. While space
regretfully doesn’t permit us to list the wide range of choices
KL has to offer, rest assured that every nook, cranny and
street of KL overflows with choices and the scent of exotic
gourmet treats.
While in KL why not sample some of the local favourites such
as the Malay Rendang, a spicy, tangy, sweet and sour dish
made with beef or mutton that just melts in your mouth, or
Satay, another Malay dish comprised of skewered meats
(usually beef, mutton, or chicken, but sometimes fish as well)
grilled in an open air barbecue and eaten dipped in a
spicy-sweet peanut sauce. Then there is the Indian Tandoor
(northern Indian) or the Southern Indian curries, whose
varieties would take up this entire article, and don’t forget all
the mouth watering Chinese dishes as well.
So there you have it, KL, modern city with traditional flavour.

WATERCRESS ROULADE WITH PARMESAN

BAKLAVA
 Ingredients: (Serves 4-6) Ingredients: (Makes 35-40)

560ml/18fl oz Milk 210g/7oz instant polenta 225g/8oz grated feta cheese

35g/1 1/4oz butter 35g/1 1/4oz Parmesan
Red Capsicum Green Capsicum
Yellow Capsicum Olive Oil (For Cooking)
Zucchini (Cubed) Eggplant /Aubergine(Cubed)
Red Onion (Cubed) 120g/4oz Sun Dried Tomatoes
4 Cloves Garlic (Crush) 30g/1oz Chopped Tomatoes
Mint & Pistachio Dressing
60ml/2fl oz Milk 25g Shelled & Skinned Pistachios
30g Mint Leaves 50ml Olive Oil
1 Clove Garlic
Bring milk to boil and whisk in polenta, lower heat and cook
for 5min, stir in butter, parmesan, salt, pepper. Turn onto
greased tray and spread to 1.5cm thick and cool to set.
Halve Capsicum, brush skin with a little oil and place skin side
up under hot grill till blackened. Peel away skin and cube.
To make dressing bring milk to boil, remove from heat and
transfer to food processor with other dressing ingredients
and lightly process.
Heat olive oil add vegetables and heat for 8min. Cut polenta
into 8cm rounds and fry with melted butter till brown. Top
with vegetables and dressing.
225g/8oz grated mozzarella cheese
2 eggs worth of egg substitute
45ml/3 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
45ml/3 tbsp chopped fresh chives
45ml/3 tbsp chopped fresh mint
Pinch of nutmeg
225g/8 oz filo pastry
45-60ml/3-4 tbsp melted butter
Freshly ground black bepper
Preheat oven to 180C/350F. In a bowl blend the feta and
mozzarella with the egg substitute. Add chopped herbs, season
with black pepper and nutmeg and mix well.
Cut the sheets of filo into 4 rectangular strips approximately
7.5cm/3in wide. Cover all but one or two of the strips with a
damp cloth to prevent them from drying out.
Brush 1 strip at a time with a little melted butter.
Place 5ml/1 tsp of filling at the bottom edge. Fold 1 corner over
the filling to make a triangle shape. Then, continue folding the
filo over itself until you get to the end of the strip.
Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes until
golden brown and crisp.

350g/12oz Ground Pistachio Nuts Vegetable oil for greasing

150g/5oz Icing Sugar 1 tbsp freshly grated parmesan
15ml/1 tbsp Ground Cardomon 85g/3oz finely chopped watercress (discard the thick stems)
150g/5oz Melted Butter 4 eggs worth of egg substitute
450g/1 lb Filo Pastry Salt and black pepper

Syrup:
450g/1 lb Granulated Sugar
300ml/ 1/2pint Water
30ml/2 tbsp Rose Water
First make the syrup. Place sugar & water in saucepan bring to
boil then simmer 10min, stir in rose water and leave to cool.
Mix together nuts, icing sugar and cardoman. Preheat oven
to 160c/325f. Brush a large rectangular baking tin with
melted butter.
Take 1 sheet of filo pastry at a time, brush with melted butter
and place in tin, repeat till you have 6 layers. Spread half of
nut mixture over filo sheets pressing down with spoon. Repeat
another 6 layer and rest of nuts, finally cover with one last set
of 6 layers of filo. Cut pastry diagonally and pour over
remaining melted butter.
Filling:
200g/7oz cream cheese
3tbsp milk
85g/3oz finely chopped watercress (discard the thick stems)
5 finely chopped spring onions
Preheat oven to 200C/400F. Grease a 23x30cm swiss roll tin,
line with baking paper then sprinkle with parmesan cheese
Mix together the watercress, egg substitute and seasoning then
pour into the tin. Cook for 7-8min until the egg substitute has
set, then remove from the oven and cool for 5min. Sprinkle more
parmesan on mixture.
To make the filling, turn the cooled mixture onto a chopping
board, peel off the baking paper, then spread the filling over the
base. Roll up from the short end peeling off any baking paper as
you go. Refrigerate for 30 minutes then serve in slices.

Bake 20min, then increase heat to 200c/400f and bake

for 15min until light golden brown. Remove from oven
and drizzle with syrup and cool.
