Operation Outreach Afghanistan Be a part of something great.

The following story is from one of our volunteers: It was a busy day. Thousands of students flocked around the entrance to the school. It was as though the entire village had shown up to witness the opening. I couldnt help feeling bad for the girls sweltering out in the sun in their white shawls and robes. Most of them couldnt have been any older than 15. A man began to pray over the microphone in that resonating drawn-out way that only a prayer leader can emulate. I remember the officials present at the opening making speeches: thanking us and praising us for our assistance; but, I dont remember any of the words. What I do remember is after the ribbon was cut, a boy approached me. We shook hands, as is the custom, then speaking in English he said, I want to thank you for what you have done. My name is Namullah. Gesturing at the school, he said, When I was in 5th grade this was just the side of a mountain, no school, no well, no walls. It is because of you and your people that we have these things today. It is because of you and your people that we have hope. Help us help the children of Afghanistan. A school is just a building. By itself, all it provides is shade and shelter. When you take that building and you add teachers, students, desks, chairs, chalkboards, pens, pencils, paper, and books that is when it really becomes a school. Right now, thousands of children are studying in schools without even the basic supplies that kids need to learn. I am a volunteer for Operation Outreach Afghanistan. We are a volunteer organization located in Kabul, Afghanistan made up of the U.S. Military, International Security Assistance Forces, and civilians. Our mission is to empower the Afghan people through humanitarian assistance. Our goal is to help the children and families of this impoverished country. We currently have 229 members registered in Afghanistan and receive support from across the United States in the form of material donations. Wondering how you can be a part of Operation Outreach? School is in session and the need for supplies is great. Operation Outreach is currently looking for the following school items: Pens, pencils, crayons, markers, erasers, pencil sharpeners, scissors, small notebooks, childrens books, glue sticks, small rulers, paper, small backpacks, games, small toys, 2-gallon plastic freezer bags The supplies you send will mean a better education and a brighter future for the children of Afghanistan. All you need to do is mail your donation to: First Last name KAIA / NOOA APO, AE 09320 Want more information about Operation Outreach Afghanistan? Visit us on the web at http://www.opoutreach.org.
