To: Natalie Wood From: Tammy Privette Date: November 4, 2011 Subject: Media Evaluation After completing the

Georgia DOE 2011 Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric, I have noticed some strengths and weaknesses in the library program. The strengths are student-focuses and include elements such as: providing a variety of resources and services for students, regularly using technology to support curriculum, and coordinating with district personnel and other media specialists. The biggest weakness is collaborating with teachers. Many teachers still feel that the library is a place to drop off their students for instruction and do not feel that there is adequate time to include the library in their daily instruction. Here are areas of concern currently rated as BASIC and a plan to remedy this problem. 3. Professional library media staff are engaged in active teaching roles. While the Media Specialist teachs students on a regular basis during specials, collaborative planning between the Media Specialist and teachers does not occur. The Media Specialist will begin attending weekly grade level meetings and offer suggestions to classroom teachers for incorporating media resources and instruction into what they are already teaching. A record will be kept of meetings and suggestions. 6. The classroom teacher is responsible for assign student achievement. The Media Specialist develops rubrics for assessing student achievement, but this is not done with the classroom teacher. As teachers incorporate media resources and instruction, rubrics will be developed to assess progress. 7a. If less than base size: A school system shall provide no less than half-time services of a Library Media Specialist for each school less than base size and shall provide adult supervision in the library media center for the entire instructional day. I am occasionally required to provide classroom coverage outside of the library. There are no plans to change this at this time. 7b. I am daily required to perform duties outside of the library. There are no plans to change this at this time. 8. There shall be a plan for flexibly scheduled library media center access for students and teachers in groups or as individuals simultaneously throughout each instructional

day. Accessibility shall refer to the facility, the staff, and the resources and shall be based on instructional need. Since I teach specials with a fixed schedule for half of each school day, this does not allow classes to come in or me to teach/collaborate as needed for all grade levels. There are no plans to change this at this time. 13. GALILEO: Currently, teachers are not encouraging their students to use GALILEO. As opportunities occur within grade-level planning, I will continue to promote GALILEO and encourage teachers and students to use it. 15. Admin staff support at both the school and district levels is essential for the development of a strong library media program. I have met with my principal twice this year. I plan to improve this by sending more frequent written communication and requesting meetings to discuss library issues. The area of Proficient that I would like to move to Exemplary is: 1.Information Literacy Standards, are integrated into content instruction. As I meet with grade levels and form collaborative partnerships with teachers, the amount of collaborative planning will increase. As this occurs, I can implement information literacy skills with the content of the classroom standards.
