Contemporary Safety and Health Management Issues in the Workplace Safety in the workplace, employers must think about

safety and health, a very important principle of the company. Safety is an important part of business management because it protects a company's work-force from being harmed or threatened on the job. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, regulates workplace health, and safety hazards. OSHA authorized the federal government to enforce safety and health standards for the companies. The OSH Act is responsible for two areas, the Department of Labor and the Department of Health. The Department of Labor enforces the OSH Acts, with the responsibility for inspecting the employers standards, and tax fines for violations. The Department of Health is responsible for conducting the research to comply with the act. The OSH Act is designed for the employer to provide a safe and healthy place of employment, to work free from hazards that may cause death or serious harm. The OSHA requires employers to keep a record of any injuries and to have a plan of escape in case of an emergency. Employers must have posters posted. The posters will relay information to the employees. Employees have right to request an inspection, have all dangerous items identified and be notified of any exposure to waste that may be of danger. Employees must perform their jobs in a manner safe and free from harm. Employees must follow all the rules and regulations and report any danger also. If employees report any violation that causes the employer to be fined, the employer cannot be upset. By law, OSHA requires employers to have a list of dangerous chemical health risks with exposure to substances considered hazardous. Therefore, OSHA is impacted if these things are not followed. Many employers have programs in which employees are aware of dangerous issues. The program is in three phrases, identifying and communicating hazards, reinforcing safe practices, and promoting safety worldwide. Identifying and communicating all issues that will harm people. Reinforcing

safe practices are to ensure safe behaviors; employers should not only define how to work safely but also reinforce the desired behavior.
