CROSSING OVER TO OUR DOUBLE PORTION

cells and some individual action plan. Write down in the
space on the right, what are some things you want to
review with your cells and if they have applied the
lesson. Eg. did anyone extend themselves as a friend to
those missing in cell group etc.

Explain that this week lesson is a follow-up on last week

sermon at our Grace 2 church.

Solicit opinions/feelings from those who had been there.

Try to build a sense of excitement.
(As leaders, remember to downplay negative things but
encourage positive things to build up faith in the cell).

I. Sensitivity (v 1-5) gather your own inputs.

1) Possibly being with Elijah for long time but also had cultivated a
personal walk with the Lord by this time. Prayer etc. There are
many other answers.
2) See handout given during the service. Attached at the back of
this lesson.
3) For growth and empowerment.
4) Try to get them to share. Use this to encourage all members to
be regular in the cell and also challenge for them to raise up to
lead. Tell them your vision is to multiply the cell and that new
leaders can be raised up.
5) Allow them to share. To cultivate greater sensitivity, for me it is
prayer and obedience.

II. Tenacity (v 6-8)

1) I think mainly because he knew what was going to happen.

(relational attachment maybe) But possibly also because he
want to be the rightful successor and the double-portion of the
Spirit.
2) Allow them to share. Again, as a leader, you must be positive
about it. Use some success story in your cell if you know them.
Eg. Pearl from YAJC cell has brought two friends Isabel and Kim
Sen to church for the past few weeks. Use your personal cell
example would be better. Motivate your members behind Vision
120.
3) Talk about discipling new people, having follow-up sessions. As
leaders, please help your people to do discipling or follow-up if
they are weak. Also, explain the GIG and Personal Discipling

Materials as well as the YA EComm that will ensure that follow-

up is taking place.
4) Allow them to share. Think of creative methods to help one
another.
III. Audacity (v 9-14)

1) He understands that he did not have the capability to fulfill the

awesome responsibility to carry on Elijah’s work. Double portion
 double the amount of miracles recorded in the life of Elisha
than Elijah.
2) We have to be specific in our asking. God wants us to ask too.
The principle is “nothing becomes dynamic until it becomes
specific”. We have a goal and that is what we are asking God to
bless us as we work towards it.
3) Allow them to share. Of course, stir the cell towards a YES
answer. I would be sad if you yourself or the cell says NO. 
4) Allow to share or write if necessary.

Ask them for the commitment. Challenge everyone to tick all three
boxes. Implication of that:
1) they must come for services also.
2) they must seek for avenues to serve in the ministry.
3) all our major efforts will be focused on evangelism and discipling
in the months ahead. Gear them up for the Cell evangelistic outing in
Oct and also collect FRIENDSHIP EVANGELISM FORMS. (Please call
them to bring beforehand). – We are way way overdue on this!

VISION 120: 120 by Apr 2007

TWO KEY MINISTRY APPROACHES:

1) Cells As The Vehicle To Fulfill The 5 Strategic Thrusts

The 5 strategic thrusts of the church are evangelism, discipleship, worship, fellowship and service.
While these concepts are biblical and much talked about, they can be just lofty ideals if there are no
fixed plans of implementation.

We want to break down these concepts into “do-able” portions and provide concrete “how to” for
each member. And the main vehicle to carry out these plans will be the cells.

The reasons/advantages are as follows:

a) The cell is the smallest self-contained functioning unit whereby each of these thrusts can
be carried out.
b) The cell is small enough for meaningful discipleship and fellowship to take place.
c) The cell is an effective accountability instrument whereby we shepherd and serve one
another.
d) The cell helps to identify and provide a training ground for new leaders.
e) The cell can provide a connection to non-believers even before they attend a service. The
best way to assimilate a person is through the cell.

2) Peers Leading Peers

I believe this is a crucial step in remaking the ministry such that it can be positioned for growth and
leadership renewal. The reasons/advantages are as follows:
a) Young adults are empowered to lead young adults thereby giving them leadership
development and challenge.
b) Transfer of ownership back to young adults and purpose if leaders can “catch the vision”.
c) Better able to minister to needs of peers.

d) Be where the non-believers are and able to bring the church outside the walls of the
church.
