1.Introduction
Purpose : To automate the admission procedure of the new academic batch of students
of IIITM-K.
Scope : The scope of this project includes student registration, issue of admit card,
conducting online examinations, evaluation, and announcement of result.

2.Overall Description
INETMS (IIITMK National Entrance Test Management System) is a project which aims to
provide a web based registration and online Entrance Examination system for admission to
MS-IT programme conducted by IIITM-K.
The present admission system is predominantly manual in all the above mentioned areas,
which makes it cumbersome and difficult to handle, both for the conducting authorities as
well as the candidates.
Considering the available infrastructure, which greatly facilitates the feasibility of this
project, once completed, it will go a long way in simplifying this annual event for everyone
involved.
From a functional point of view, the new system will help to automate substantially, every
phase of the entire admission process of MS-IT programme in IIITM-K, starting from the
registration of candidates for the entrance examination to the final selection.

3. Specific Requirements – Functionality

3.1 Description of functionalities of Administrator: This module describes the various


functionalities pertained to administrator.

3.1.1 Login : Managing user names and passwords. Redirects the user to the
corresponding page.
3.1.2 Logout : Leads to logging out of the application

3.2 Student Registration : It describes various procedures starting from accepting student
details, generating preview of the details accepted, conforming the registration, to issue of
admit card

3.2.1 Accepting Student Details

Login Details : Includes the Username and Password


Personal Details : Includes name, category, date of birth, address for
communication, email id, phone number.
Academic Details : Includes name of the degree, name of the institute,
name of the university, year of passing,
percentage of marks
3.2.2 Sending an Acknowledgement email

Send acknowledgement email with received details and a link for entering the
further details such as work experience, choice of examination centre and
payment details.

3.2.3 Accepting Further details of the student

Personal Details : Includes religion/caste, sex, permanent address.


Work Experience (if any) : Includes designation, name of the
company/institution, and duration of work.
Choice of Examination centre : Includes First choice, Second choice for the
examination centre.
Payment Details : Includes DD number, Name of the Bank, Bank
code, Date, Amount.

3.2.4 Generating preview of the details entered


Retrieve data from web page, formatting, updating the data (if needed).

3.2.5 Submission of Application

Enter the details to the database. Give the acknowledgement card, which
contains Name, Permanent address, Date of birth, Space to fix photograph and
signature. Student has to take the print out and send it along with DD to IIITMK.

3.2.6 Conformation of Registration

After receiving the DD, check with the existing details. Send an
acknowledgement email about the acceptance of DD.

3.2.7 Issuing admit card

Students should login using their username and password to download the
respective admit card. Admit card will contain Roll Number, Name, Permanent
address, Date of birth, Photograph, Examination Centre allotted, space for
signature of the student and the invigilator.

3.3 Online Examination and Evaluation : This module describes the question paper setting,
rules regarding conduction of examination and evaluation procedure.

3.3.1 Setting the question paper

Question paper will contain four sections. The questions in the individual
sections will be shuffled randomly for every student. The students can access any
section of the question paper in any order. Time duration for the examination will
be fixed by the administrator.
3.3.2 Evaluation
Check the answers with the answer key. Calculate the marks based on the
number of correct answers for each student. There will be provision for specifying
the cut off mark. As per the cut off mark, list of selected students will be published
in the web page. That page will contain the schedule and venue for the interview.

4. Description of Users: It describes the various users involved and the functionalities pertained
to each user.

4.1 Administrator

- Manage the username and passwords


- Change details of the students if required
- Enter the DD details
- Enter the photographs and signature of the respective candidates into the database
- Set the date for dispatching admit cards to the candidates
- Set the dates for examination

- Select the venue for each student


- Set different versions of question paper
- Specify the cut off marks
- Give the schedule of interview for the selected candidates

4.2 Students

- Submit the application for the examination


- Send the acknowledgement card, photograph along with the DD
- Take the printout of the admit card provided by the institute to the respective venue
- Attend the online examination with the given username and password

5. Requirements: This module describes the platform in which the project has been done
- Operating System : Linux / Windows
