WhenyoufirstconfiguredtheQueueyouwillhabebeenaskedwhatMediasetupyouwantedtouse, Roll,FixedSheet,AutoSheetorTemplates.Youcangobackandchangethisatanytimebygoingtothe queuepropertiesandclickingontheMediasetupTab.

ForTjetprintingyouwillwanttouseFixedSheet,AutoSheetorTemplates. RollisusedforRollfeeddevices,whereyouhaveacontinousrollofmediaandwanttoprint continoulsy.Tjetsarenotrollfeedmachines,sothisisnotagoodchoice. FixedSheetallowsyoutoselectafixedsizethatwillalwaysbeused,thisisusefulifyouwantto doyourownabsoultepositioningorifyoualwaysusethesamesizesuchasstandardboard. ThisoptiondoesallowyoutorepositionthegraphicsinFastRIP. AutomaticsheetmodewillallowyoutoselectdifferentsizeswhenprintingfromFastARTISTand otherprogramslikePhotoShopandwillusethesizeselectedintheprogram.Butthisdoesnt allowyoutorepositionthegraphics,youmustgetthepositioningcorrectintheprogram. Templatesgiveyoucompletecontroloverpostitioningandallowsyoutosetupyourownboard sizesandpoistions,forbothsingleandmultiplejobs.

Youcanalwayssetupmultiplequeueswithdifferentsettingstomatchyourpreferedworkflow,see MultipleQueuessectionformoreinformationonthisfeature. Noteaboutpagesizes:Somepageshaveautomaticoffsets,sothegraphicsprintintherightpositionfor theboardloaded.ForexampleontheTjet2thestandardboardprints0.5x1.5inchoffsetfromthetop leftcorner,thesleeveisdesignedtoprint0.5x0.375inchoffset.Theseoffsetsshouldbecorrectfor theseboardsizeswhenplacedinthecorrectpositioninthebed,ifyouhavehadproblemswiththese foranyreasonitsbestyouuseeitherFixedSheetsizewiththefullbedsizeselectedorsetupyourown templates. FixedSheetSizeYoucanselectanyofthestandardpagesizesorcreateyourown.Ifyouselecta predefinedpagesuchasstandardboardthentheoffsetsforthisboardinthedriverwillalwaysbe applied.Butifyoucreateyourownoruse13x18(whichistheFullbedarea)thentherewillbeno automaticoffsetswhenprintingandwhereyouplacethegraphicsonthepageiswhereitwillprint

insidethebed.Ifyouaddabitmapsuchasajpeg,thenyouwillfindthegraphicscomesinasitwas savedandyoucanscaleitrotateitandpositionitasrequired. PrintingfromFastARTISTinFixedSheetmodewerecommenedyoueither. 1. UseRollmodeinFastRIPsetupPagesetup,asthiswillsendjusttheareaofthegraphicsandyou canthenscaleandpostitionyourgraphicsinFastRIPasrequired. 2. UsethesamefixedsheetsizeasselectedinFastRIPinFastRIPsetupPagesetup,positionand scaleyourgraphicsinFastARTISTfirst. PrintingfromPhotoShopandotherprograms,werecommenedyoueither 1. Useacustompagesizeandsetthepagesizetomatchyourgraphics,asthiswillsendjustthe areaofthegraphicsandyoucanthenscaleandpostitionyourgraphicsinFastRIPasrequired. 2. UsethesamefixedsheetsizeasselectedinFastRIPinFilePrintsetup,positionandscaleyour graphicsintheprogramfirst. Note:IntheFixedSheetSize,youcanputmultiplejobsonthesameSheet,soyoucandotwocapsat thesametimeormore.YoucanalsousethecopiesfeatureinFastRIPfordoingmultiplecopiesofthe samejobonthesamebedforjobssuchasgolfballs.

Smartmenu ThispreviewshowsyouthreejobslineupinFixedSheet,eachgraphiccanbepositionandsized(either bydraggingandsizeingtheimageinthepreview)orbyenteringvaluesinthesmartmenuarea.The 2ndjobhasusedthecopiesfeaturetosetupprintingthegraphicsonaseriesofTennisballs. AutomaticSheetMediaThisoptionisdesignedtousethepagesizerequestedwhenprintingfrom FastARTISTorotherWindowsprogram.InAutomaticsheetmode,FastRIPwillworkasitdidinprevious versions(suchasFastRIP9andFastARTIST1.5andbefore),jobscannotbescaledorpositioned.You needtoselectthepagesizeyouwantintheprogramyouareusing(FastARTISTorforPhotoShopfor

example),positionthegraphicsandscaleitasyouwanttoprintinthisapplication.Becauseofthis, AutomaticSheetmodeisnotrecommenedforusewhenusingdraganddropofbitmapsorusingthe underbasefromtransparencywithPSDfiles.

Thispreviewshowstwojobs,oneforastandardboardandoneforSleeveinAutomaticsheetmedia mode,whenprintedtheywillusetheoffsetsinthedrivertopositionthegraphicsforthesepagesizes. TemplatesWithtemplatesyoucansetupyourownboardsizesandpositions,youcanalsosetup multipleboardswithinthebed,duplicatescanbecreatedautomatically.Templatesofferthegreatest flexabiltywhenprinting.Thereisacompleteseparatesectioninthisdocumentationontemplatesthat willexplainhowtoconfigureandusethese.

LayoutManager
TheLayoutManagerconfigureshowjobswillbemanagedwhentheyfirstarriveinthequeue,youwill wanttocusomisethisforyourpreferedworkflow.

Layoutjobsonpageastheyarrive,thisshouldbeon.Ifthisisdisabledthenalljobsareaddeddirectly tothearchivequeue(lowerlist)sotheycanbeprocessedatalatertime/date. Processmultiplepagejobsasanoverlay,ifajobcomesinthatismultiplepagesitcanbeviewintwo ways.Whenthisisenabledyouwillseeinthepreviewonlythetoppageandcanselectdifferentpages toviewfromthesmartmenuarea,whenthisisoff,eachpagewillbelayoutseparatly.ForTjetprinting youwillprobablyneverusemultiplepagejobs,butifyoudidyouwouldwantthisoff,soyoucanprint eachpageseparatly. Layoutmodecontrolswhathappenstothejobsastheyarrive, Manualwilladdmultiplejobstothesamepageandthenallowyoutolaythemoutasrequired. ThisisntamodeyouwouldnormallyuseforTshirts,butyoumightifprintingtwocapsatthe sametimeintheprintbed. AutoPagewilladdeachjobontoitsownpageandthisisnormallythebestmodeforTjet printing. AutoNestwillnestasmanyjobsasitcanonthe1stpagebeforemovingtothenextpage,the nestingisdoneasabestfitandisnotdesignedforyoutorepositionobjects.Notsomething youwouldnormallywantwhentshirtprinting.


Youcanalsoconfigurehowjobsarehandledwhentheyarriveinthequeueandthequeueisstarted. Holdwilldonothingandwaitfortheoperator,thisisausefulmodeifyouareworkingwithPSD formatfilesasyoucanpositionandsizethedocumentbeforeprocessing. RIPNow,PrintlaterwillRIPthejobreadyforprinting.Thiswillnotgiveyouandopertunityto changethepositionorsizeofthejobbeforeitsRIPd.ItsagoodmodeifyouareinAutomatic sheetmediamode. RIPandPrintnowwillRIPthejobandsendittotheprinter,fordevicessuchastheTjetwhich requiresmanualoperationforeachshirtthisisntnormallyused. Note:Theschedulingofjobsonlyapplieswhenthequeueisrunning/started,seeQueuemenustart/ stoporthestartandstopiconsinthemainmenubar.

MultipleQueues
FastRIPcomeswithsupportforanunlimitednumberofqueuestohelpyoumanageyourjobsbetterand toallowyoutohavedifferentcustomworkflowsfordiffernttypesofjobsthatsuiteyourplaceof business.Youcanusethemultiplequeuesforallsortsofreasons,someexamples Setupdifferentcostingsforwhiteandblackshirts Setupdifferentsubstratecolorsforamoreaccuratepreview,fordifferentcolorshirts Wanttomanagejobsfordifferentshirtboardssepartly Setupdifferentprintmodesfordifferenttypesofgraphicjobs Youhavemultipleprinters IntheQueuesmenuistheManageQueues...option.

AndthiswilltakeyoutotheQueueManager

 NewQueuescanbecreatedusingthe+iconinthetoolbarandQueuescanbedeletedusingtheXicon. The...MenuoptionintheQueuetabwilltakeyoutotheQueuepropertiesforthatQueue The...MenuoptioninthePrintertabwilltakeyoutotheprinterproperties,whereyoucansee thecurrentinklevelsandperformheadcleans,nozzelchecksetc.. The...MenuoptioninthePorttabwilltakeyoutooptionsfortheoutputport,thesedependon theport.Butconsistofthingssuchastimeouts. TheControlPaneltabdefinesifthisqueuehasbeenaddedasaprintertoyoucontrolpanel Printersandfaxes.EachQueuecanhaveitsownprinteraddedtothecontrolpanelsoitcanbe accessedfromanyprogramusingFilePrint.

MultipleQueueswillmakeiteasierforyoutomanagedifferentjobstypesandhastheflexabilitytobe configuredtomeetyourownpreferedworkflows. Youcancustomiseeachqueuewithitsownuniquesetoffeature,suchascosting,mediasetup,default printmode.

ChangingthePrintmodeforColorpasses
IfyouprintusingFilePrintorprintfromFastARTISTthentheprintmodeusedwillbesetinthepage setupdialog(orinFastARTISTFastRIPsetup),butonlyinunprotectedmode(seeprotectedand unprotectedmode). Theprintmodeusedforthecolorpassforjobsaddedsuchasbitmap(Jpeg,PSD,TIF)andotherformats thatdonotcontainprinterspecificinformationsuchasPDFwillbesetusingtheprintmodeselectedin thequeueproperties.Youcanchangethisforajob,bygoingtothejobproperties

andifyouwanttosetupadifferentdefault,

 thenchangetheprintmodeinthequeuepropertiesandthiswillbeusedforallfutureimports.

SettinguptheSubstrateColor
BydefaultFastRIPwillshowyouapreviewofyourimageonawhiteshirt,butyoucanconfigureyour queueforanycolorshirt.GototheQueueproperties

ClickontheChoosecolorforthesubstratecolorandyouwillbeabletoselectanycolorfromthecolor pickertouseasyourshirtcolor.Fromthenonallpreviewswillbedisplayedwiththisasashirtcolor. Note:Ifyouselectblackandaddajobwithnounderbasethenitwilldisplayassolidblackandyouwill notbeabletoseeyourimage(justasitwouldprint..). Note2:Forthesubstratecolorpreviewtoworkcorrectly,youmustkeepPreviewOptionsseton1bit perpixel.SeeToolsOptionsPreviewOptions Note3:ForjobsfromFastARTISTyoucansetthesubstratecolorbydraggingacolorfromthepaletteon tothepagesize(andmakingthepagethatcolor)inFastARTIST,thiswillthenbesetasthesubstrate colorwhenthejobissenttoFastRIP.

UsingtheHotFolder
IntheQueuepropertiesisahotfoldertab

Byenablingahotfolder(andthiscanbelocaldirectoryoronanetwork)filescanbeaddedintothis locationandthentheywillautomaticallybeaddedtotheQueue.Thefilescanbeanyformatthatyou cannormallydraganddropsuchasPDF,PS,EPS,JPEG,TIF,PSDetc..ifyouhavesetuptheimageimport dialogtocreateanunderbasefromtransparnecyinformationthenthiswillalsohappenautomtaically forthesetypesofjobs.Sobyusingahotfolderandsettingupdefaultsettingsyoucanautomatethe processingofimagesfromPhotoShop(orotherapplications)withtransparencyandprintingthesewith anunderbase.

ProtectedandUnprotectedmode

Therearetwomodesyoucanrunaqueuein,protectedandunprotected,thedefaultsettingis unprotected.

InunprotectedmodewhenajobarrivesinthequeuefromFastARTISTorfromaFilePrintcommand, thesettingsrequestedinpagesetup(orFastRIPsetupinFastARTIST)suchaswhichprintmodetouse willtakepriorty,thereforeyoucanprintusingdifferentprintmodeswithaqueueinunprotectedmode. Inprotectedmodealljobswillhavethereprintmodeoverriddenbythequeuesdefaultprintmodeand thequeuewillalwaysusethesameprintmodeforalljobs. Thecorrectsettingisauserprefenceandyoushouldselectwhatbestsuitesyourworkflow.

Costing
Tousethecostingfeature,youmustfirstconfigurethecostingtabinthequeuepropertiesCosting.

MaterialcostThematerialcostcanbecalulatedinoneofthreewaysusingthedropdownbox. PerUnit,isafixedpriceperprintandtypicallyusedforTshirtsandotherfixedpriceitemswhen printingandwillcalulatethepriceusingthevalueentered. PerSquarefoot,willcalculatethepricebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squarefoot. PerSquareMeter,willcalculatethepricebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squareMeter. ForTShirtprintingthisistypicallyperunitandisthecostoftheshirt. SurfaceTreatmentCostThiscanbeusedforanumberofdifferentmaterialtreatments,suchasapre treatmentfortshirtprintingorlaminationinlargeformatsignprinting PerUnit,isafixedpriceperprintandtypicallyusedforTshirtspretreatmentandotherfixed priceitemswhenthesurefacetreatementisfixedorlarglyanestimatedfixedprice PerSquarefoot,willcalculatethepricebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squarefoot. PerSquareMeter,willcalculatethepricebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squareMeter.

ForTShirtprintingthisnormallyappliedforpretreatmentandcanbeeitherperunitforafixedcostorif youtryandpretreatjusttheprintareayoucouldusepersquarefoot/meter. Note:AsmostusersprintbothWhiteandBlackshirtsandyouthereforedontalwayswanttochargefor pretreatment,youcaneithersetuptwodifferentqueues(seemultiplequeues)forwhiteandbalck shirtsoryoucaneditthesedetailsonthecostingtabofthejobpropertieswhenprinting. Black,ColoredandWhiteInkcostsThisisalwaysenteredperlitre,ifyoudontbuyyourinkbuythe litrethenyouwillhavetocalculatetheperlitrecostsbydividngyourvolumepurchasedintoalitreand multiplyingthisbyyourcost.BecauseonsomeprintersBlackinkischeaper,blackinkhasbeentreated asaspecialcase.AlsoonsomemachinesWhiteinkismoreexpensivesoitalsohasitsownseparate costsfromothercoloursused. ColorandWhiteInkpassesThisissoyoucanenterthenumberofpassestheprintermakeswhen printingcolorpassorthewhitepass(ifprintingwhite).Withsomeprintersyouselectthenumberof passeswhenyouprint(orinthegeneraltab),butsomeprinterscancontrolthenumberofpasses internally.Forthisreasonthenumberofpassesyouusewithprintjobsshouldbesetmanuallyinthe costinginterfaceandmatchthenumberofpassesyouusewhenyouprint.Note:Youcanalways changethisonajobbyjobbasisoryoucansetupdifferentqueues,sayonefor2whitepasseswhen doingblackshirtsandanotherqueuewith1whitepasswhendoinglightercoloredshirts. InkContigencyWithallinkjetsthereisacertainquantityofinkwastethatoccursduringheadcleaning andotherroutinemaintancetasks.Theamountofinkusedinthesetaskswilldependupontheprinter andalsotheamountitsused(themoreyouprint,normallythelowertheinkwastageasanoverall percentage).Enteringa%inthisfieldwilladdthistothetotalinkusedandeffectthecost,soyoucan factorintherunningcostsincludingheadcleaningandothermaintance. LabourCostAllprintingrequiressomelabour,fromloadingthematerials,topretreatments, laminationandpackagingforshipping.Youhavethreewaysyoucancaluclatethis. PerUnit,isafixedpriceperprintandtypicallyusedforTshirtsandotherfixedpriceitemswhen thelabouristypicallythesameforeachitem. PerSquarefoot,willcalculatethepricebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squarefoot. PerSquareMeter,willcalculatethepricebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squareMeter. Tax1Thisallowsyoutoapplyataxtothetotalcostofthejob.Itsaddedasapercentageofthetotal costofthejob Tax2Thisallowsyoutoapplyataxtothetotalcostofthejob.Itsaddedasapercentageofthetotal costofthejobwhenyouselectregulartaxandisincludesthatcostsofTax1whenyouselectAdditive taxasinsomecountries/states.

TimeThisdoesnoteffectthecostandisjustforinformationpurposes. PerUnit,isafixedtimeperprintandtypicallyusedforTshirtsandotherfixedprintingand applicationtimeditems. PerSquarefoot,willcalculatethetimebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squarefoot. PerSquareMeter,willcalculatethetimebasedontheactualareaprintedusingthevalueper squareMeter. RecordCostingDataYoucanselecttorecordthecostinginformationautomatically,eitheratthe queuelevel,joblevelorboth.Thedataisthenexportedtothislocationina.csvformat,suitablefor inportingintoExcelandrelationaldatabasesforaccountandreporting.Usingthisfeatureyoucan furthercustomisethecostingasrequired.Forexampleifyouwantedyoucanusetheinformationin Excelandaddtimeasanadditionalcostitemorprocessalljobinaweekandcalculatetotallabouttime. Itsalsoasuiteableformatforusingininvoicingprograms. NotesAllowsyoutoaddatextdescription,containinganynotesyouwish. DotProfilesInorderforthecostingtobecalculated,itrequiredthatthesoftwareknowswhatthedot volumesarewhenprintingandthesewillvarydependingupontheresolutonandotherfactors.This informationisnormallyprovidedinthedriver(whenavailable).Howeveryoucanchangethedot volumes(basedonaperprintmode)and/oriftheyareabsecentaddyourownestimates. Note:Itsoftenthecasethatdifferentprintingrequiresdifferentcosting,thiscanbefromdifferent materialcosts,labourcosts,pretreatementcosts.Thebenefitofusingthemultiplequeuesystemis thatyoucansetupdifferentqueuesforthesecasesandenterdifferentcostingappropriatlyforthejobs, formoreinformationseethesectiononmultiplequeue.

JobPropertiesCosting
Inordertoseethecosting,youmustfirstRIPthejob(rightclickandRIPonly),youcanthenseethe costingtabinthejobproperties(Rightclickpropertiesshowpropertiesforpagecontentforsingle jobs).

Thenclickonthecoststab

Thiscostingwillreflecttheinformationenteredinthequeueproperties,butitcanbechanged.Sofor exampleifonthisparticularjobyouwanttochangethetaxorinkcontingencyyoucan.Youcanalso changethenumberofpasses,ifitdifferesfromthedefaultsyousetupinqueueproperties. Note:Rememberpassesmustbesetmanuallyandwillnotbesetautomaticallyfromtheprintpasses. Alltheinformationcannotbedisplayed,soyouneedtoscrolldowntoseetheTotal
