he anointing of the Spirit of God is a must in the life of every believer.
LESSON 2
T Every work done without the Spirit of God and without the power of
God is rejected. We must be anointed to be accepted.
The anointing is upon every believer, according to the following scriptures:

2 Corinthians 1:21: “Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath
anointed us, is God.”
1 John 2:27: “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you,
and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you
of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall
abide in him.”

According to Numbers 18:8, all we have, we have because of the anointing:

“And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given thee the charge of mine heave
offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto thee have I given them by
reason of the anointing, and to thy sons, by an ordinance for ever.”

WHEN DOES THE ANOINTING COME?

The anointing of the Spirit comes at three points in your life:
1. At salvation: “And the remnant of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he shall pour
upon the head of him that is to be cleansed: and the priest shall make an atone-
ment for him before the LORD” (Leviticus 14:18).
2. At the birth of a ministry: “And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons,
and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office”
(Exodus 30:30).
3. For authority: “So all the elders of Israel came to the king of Hebron; and king
David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed
David king over Israel.… Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the
same is the city of David” (2 Samuel 5:3, 7).

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE PRESENCE AND THE POWER

The presence of God is an abiding presence and will remain in you as long as
you are obedient to God’s Word.
The power of God comes for a reason and a season; the presence abides.
Ministering in the anointing always starts with a seed.
The power intensifies and grows; the presence does not. It comes in fullness
and stays that way.
It is the power that defeats the enemy and his forces: “And it shall come to pass
in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from
off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing” (Isaiah 10:27).

BEYOND THE NEW BIRTH

The new birth is only the beginning of what God has for us. The wonderful
presence and anointing of God are also available to every believer.
Acts 8:6-16 declares:

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip
spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, cry-
ing with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and
many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was
great joy in that city. But there was a certain man, called Simon, which before
time in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giv-
ing out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from
the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to
him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with
sorceries. But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the
kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men
and women. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized,
he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs
which were done. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that
Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive
the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were
baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

These believers:
1. Heard the word (see verse 6).

2. Saw the power of God (see verse 7).

3. Experienced the joy of salvation (see verse 8).
4. Were baptized (see verse 12).
5. Had not received the Holy Spirit until Peter and John came.

These people were born-again disciples, yet they knew nothing of the Holy
Spirit. They had to have His presence to be born again, yet they did not know
anything about the power of God, even though they had seen it in action.

ALL ANOINTED ALL THE TIME

God commands all to be anointed all the time, as we see in Acts 19:1-7:

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through
the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them,
Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We
have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto
them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then
said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the peo-
ple, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ
Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And
when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they
spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.

The following verses also affirm God’s desire for all to be anointed:
“Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment”
(Ecclesiastes 9:8).
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my
head with oil; my cup runneth over” (Psalm 23:5).
“I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white
raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear;
and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve that thou mayest see” (Revelation 3:18).

THREE KEYS THAT RELEASE THE ANOINTING

There are three keys to the anointing.

1. Cleansing by the blood of the cross

2. The Word of God
3. Prayer

KEY #1: CLEANSING BY THE BLOOD

The anointing comes once the blood of Jesus cleanses us.

1. Ruth 3:3 says: “Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment
upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the
man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.”
2. Leviticus 14:1-18 explains this in detail:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, This shall be the law of the leper in
the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the priest. And the priest
shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the
plague of leprosy be healed in the leper; Then shall the priest command to
take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood,
and scarlet, and hyssop: And the priest shall command that one of the birds
be killed in an earthen vessel over running water: As for the living bird, he
shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall
dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the
running water: And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from
the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the liv-
ing bird loose into the open field. And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his
clothes, and shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be
clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, and shall tarry abroad out
of his tent seven days. But it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave
all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he
shall shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, also he shall wash his flesh in
water, and he shall be clean. And on the eighth day he shall take two he
lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish,
and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and
one log of oil. And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man
that is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of
the tabernacle of the congregation: And the priest shall take one he lamb,
and offer him for a trespass offering, and the log of oil, and wave them for a
wave offering before the LORD: And he shall slay the lamb in the place where
he shall kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place: for as
the sin offering is the priest’s, so is the trespass offering: it is most holy: And
the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest
shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and
upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot:

And the priest shall take some of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of
his own left hand: And the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is
in his left hand, and shall sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven times before
the LORD: And of the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put
upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the
thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the
blood of the trespass offering: And the remnant of the oil that is in the priest’s
hand he shall pour upon the head of him that is to be cleansed: and the priest
shall make an atonement for him before the LORD.

3. Exodus 30:20-21, 30-32 further emphasizes the principle of cleansing

before anointing:
When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with
water, that they die not, or when they come near to the alter to minister, to
burn offering made by fire unto the LORD: So they shall wash their hands and
their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statue for ever to them, even to
him and to his seed throughout their generations.… And thou shalt anoint
Aaron and his and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the
priest’s office. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This
shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations. Upon
man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after
the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.

Because they had been washed, they could be anointed. The anoint-
ing does not belong to those who live in the flesh, but in the spirit (see
verse 32).
4. Ezekiel 16:9 also illustrates the point: “Then washed I thee with water; yea,
I thoroughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.”
You must be washed daily and the Word of God must come to you
daily in order to be anointed.
5. First John 5:18 affirms this truth yet again: “And there are three that bear wit-
ness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.”

KEY #2: THE WORD

The anointing comes as we receive and feed upon the Word of God and as the
Word of God saturates our lives and fills us.

1. Job 29:6 says: “When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me
out rivers of oil.”
Butter is the wealth of the Word of God.
2. Deuteronomy 32:13 says: “He made him ride on the high places of the earth,
that he might eat the increase of the fields, and he made him so suck homey out of
the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock.”
Oil comes out of the Word—the Rock.
3. Psalm 23:5 says: “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine ene-
mies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
The anointing oil comes as a result of dining at God’s table, feasting
upon His Word.
4. Numbers 11:8 says: “And the people went about, and gathered if, and ground
it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and
the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.”
The Word brings the anointing. Manna tasted like oil.
5. Psalm 119:25 says: “My soul cleveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according
to thy word.”
You can not be quickened without the Word.

KEY #3: PRAYER

The anointing comes as a result of prayer, as the following verses teach us:

1. “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women,
and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren” (Acts 1:14).
And the result of that prayer took place in Acts 2.
2. “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4).
3. “And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and
said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all
that in them is: Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the hea-
then rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and
the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. For of a
truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius
Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, For to do
whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. And now, Lord,
behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may

speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders
may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place
was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the
Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:24-31).
4. “So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing
with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed
by him, and cast his mantle upon him” (1 Kings 19:19).
Plowing is prayer. Elisha received his anointing while plowing.

DO NOT LOSE THE ANOINTING

Neglecting the Word of the Lord will cause you to lose it, as though you were
never anointed. The Scripture passages below affirm this.
1. “And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with
them, and shalt be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs are
come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee”
(1 Samuel 10:6-7).
Here Saul received the anointing.
2. “And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed:
but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. And Saul
said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the
burnt offering.…Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me
to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself there-
fore, and offered a burnt offering. And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done fool-
ishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he com-
manded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel
for ever” (1 Samuel 13:8-9, 12-13).
Saul forced himself to do something outside of the will of God. He
forced himself and rejected God’s word.
3. “Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them
not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and
ass.… But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the
oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not
utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed
utterly.… For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity
and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected
thee from being king.… And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee:

for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from
being king over Israel” (1 Samuel 15:3, 9, 23, 26).
4. “But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD
troubled him” (1 Samuel 16:14).
5. “Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you,
nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the
shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil” (2 Samuel 1:21).
It was as though Saul had never been anointed.
