probably limiting your chances of getting published. Look at your favorite publications and you will see they print a variety of types of article. Here are five of the most popular types. The How To' Article This is a very popular type of article, in which you tell the reader how to do something. It could be how to build a garage, how to write a book, how to sell a house, or how to clean tar off a pair of trousers. These articles tend to be particularly popular because people love to find out how to do something. When writing how to do something, and if the sequence is important, then it is a good idea to number each step. Remember to keep your instructions simple, yet specific. The list; each item may be a paragraph or two. A conclusion. The Roundup' Article In the roundup article, you provide a roundup of information, statements, or opinions from a variety of sources. You might interview a number of experts, for example, and ask them the same list of questions. In your article you then write a roundup of the answers, e.g. "Bill Jones, CEO of SHJ Limited, is confident that the market will turn around soon. "Within the next six weeks at most", he predicted. But Tom Sloane, at Pickwick Associates, disagrees. He explains why..." The 'Inspirational' Article Inspiration articles include inspirational narrative, essays, articles on faith and religion, and self-help articles. Do you know of an issue or concern that affects many people? Think of your own every day experiences. Write about the issue... and help the readers to deal with life and to improve themselves in some way. The As Told To' Article Because many of the people who have outstanding experiences are not writers, there is a market for writing those people's stories. This is quite similar to ghostwriting, except that in this case the audience knows that you are the writer. In the credits, you would show "By Peter Wallace [subject], as told to Jim Davies..." [writer]. Instead of writing a third-person narrative of the event, the As Told To' article makes the tale more real and personal by using the first-person. So next time you are about to write an article, pause... and ask which type of article would best suit your situation and topic. By varying the types of articles you write your writing will also develop a new depth and your articles will be picked up by a much wider variety of publications

3 Types of Articles That Make Blogging and Advertising Go Hand in Hand To most, a blog is just an online journal. It is a place where anyone can write about any random stuff - like travel, electronics, shopping, cooking and even about love. But while some people have been blogging about their personal material and feelings, a lot of individuals have taken blogging to new dimensions. So what is the new face of blogs now? Blogs are now effectively used worldwide for product sales and advertisement. Note that bloggers do not necessarily have to say "buy this" to advertise. Since most bloggers are hard core writers too, they use different means to persuade their potential buyers. Generally, they do their convincing by writing interesting topics about the products that they are trying to "sell". They also usually present the facts in the following article types. 1. The "How To" articles. As implied, these are articles that mainly focus on how to operate tools and equipment, how to complete a certain project, how to clean a house effectively and the like. This is an effective advertising tactic because when people see how easy it is to use a certain product, the readers will discover the need to acquire these products. 2. Review articles. This is a more direct approach because here, blogging will mostly be centered on discussing the specifications, the advantages and the disadvantages of a certain featured product. By writing about these options, a reader will get the data that they can use to compare similar products from one another. 3. The "Secrets That You Did Not Know" articles. This type of article, often appeal to the curious nature of individuals. By using the word "secrets" a blogger is somehow saying that if you miss this article, then you are missing the biggest opportunity or product of your life! But while the heading makes the article very compelling to read, the blogger writing it should be up to the challenge of really capturing the interest of their reader by telling them something that they do not already know. Otherwise, the reader will leave the page and probably not return. And for a blogger, a non interested customer is a lost sale. Those are the kinds of articles that bring blogging to the next level. According to some researchers, all of these are effective because they are appealing to read and they are very informative as well. TYPES OF MAGAZINE ARTICLES Any attempt to classify all of the forms of magazine articles would probably prove to be inadequate. However, certain characteristics do tend to identify seven general categories. These categories frequently overlap, and the dividing lines that separate them often become blurred. Even so, this classification serves as a starting point for learning to recognize the various types of magazine articles. This knowledge is necessary before you can even consider writing for the magazine industry.

For our purposes, there are seven basic types of magazine articles. They are as follows: Personality sketch Personal experience Confession Narrative Utility Interview Featurette Personality Sketch. The personality sketch is a short biography that includes an individuals achievements. The purpose of an article of this type, whether a success article or a profile, is to portray the intimate details of character and personality of someone. The person may be widely known, one who has achieved some form of greatness or someone whose life is in some way interesting or remarkable. The individual does not have to be a famous show business or political personality; this type of story could just as well be written about a Navy person. A Navy jet pilot who adopted an entire orphanage of Japanese children was the subject of an article of this kind. Another dealt with a sailor aboard a destroyer who spent his reenlistment bonus on football equipment so his shipmates could compete against the crew members of larger Navy ships. Still other sketches have been written about Navy scientists, combat heroes, chaplains, test pilots and athletes. Personal Experience Unusual adventures, unique accomplishments, rare travel experiences and countless other personal experiences lend themselves to treatment in this type of article. My 60 Days Under the Sea in an Atomic Submarine, I Fly With the Blue Angels and I Walked on the Moon are typical titles of personal experience articles. Thousands of Navy men and women have had exciting personal experiences they might have developed into good magazine articles. Quite often, however, they do not have the ability, the time or the inclination to write these experiences on paper. Nevertheless, they usually will talk about their experiences which can provide a good story opportunist y for a journalist in search of ideas. When you write this type of article, use the as told to... byline. You should also use caution when writing in the first person. The frequent use of I can become, or appear, egotistical. Confession The confession article is not necessarily a shocker or scandal story. Instead, it is an inside story of conditions or problems normally unfamiliar to the average reader. The confession article often involves handicaps or disadvantages that are overcome by determination and common sense. Incidents related in confession articles are often typical of everyday life. A spoiled, rich kid learns discipline and responsibility aboard a Navy destroyer. A midshipmans determination to overcome a speech defect saves his Navy career. A young man cures a morbid fear of water by joining the Navy. Subjects like these have been used in confession articles. The most noticeable characteristic of the confession story is the intimate, confidential tone in which the writer seems to be personally revealing a secret to the reader. Although the subject matter is personal, it must evoke an emphatic response from the reader. Humor should not be overlooked in this type of article. An individuals willingness to tell the story shows that he or she is not ashamed. If humor can be injected into the account, it indicates an objective approach. Some subjects are best when given a humorous treatment. Many interesting articles about common phobias, such as a visit to the dentist, have been written that way. This approach often helps readers to see that most of the fear is unfounded. If the humor is skillfully handled, the readers will probably be amused. 4-7
