Includes Coal for TPS, Steel Plants, Washery and Other Users and Imported coal
The figures of 2025 do not include imported coal. The demand for coal transportation by rail will, however, be much more than the conservative estimates of 700 MT.

Challenges
Future growth in coal sector will come from coal blocks which require urgent rail connectivity The linking of coal blocks as well as new ports will be crucial which can be partnership /PPP projects between Railways and stake holders Last mile connectivity to new blocks will account for more than 200 MT of coal by 2020 Handling facilities at ports and terminals will have to match the growth Generate capacity, ahead of demand Resource Mobilisation for modernisation and network augmentation
