"Serving the

A
healthy workforce is a productive workforce.
Something every employer knows, but do all
employers know that there are ways of keeping
their employees healthy and letting them know
that their employers care about them? On Wednesday,
October 12, 2011, at Findley Auditorium in the Tower
at Butler Health System, the Butler County Chamber of
Commerce partnered with Butler Health System and
Highmark to conduct an Employee Wellness Seminar.
Absenteeism and Presenteeism are major issues for
many workplace environments, and by knowing our areas
risk factors, businesses can work with their healthcare
providers to develop programs and services that will lower those two issues.

Adagio Health
A
dagio Health Butler can be a valuable resource
for your employees, customers and the
community at large - both to those who have
insurance and those who do not. Adagio Health
has been providing health care for women since 1971.
They offer complete gynecological care including
annual exams, pregnancy care, contraception and
breast and cervical cancer screening.
They accept most commercial insurance plans
(Medicare and all Medicaid plans including SelectPlan
for Women) and for those without insurance, fees for
most medical services are based on income and family
size. Too often, women put their own health care
needs last. Adagio Health can help our community
stay healthy and access preventive health care. Call
724.282.2730 for an appointment. Our Medical Office
is located at 323 Sunset Drive, Ste. 2, Butler, PA. Visit
them at www.adagiohealth.org.
Adagio Health also provides the WIC program in
Butler County. Those who have children under the
age of five or are pregnant or breastfeeding, may be
eligible for the WIC Program. Income guidelines are
quite generous and many families may not realize
that they are eligible.
To determine if your family is eligible for WIC or to
schedule an appointment call 800.942.9467. The WIC
Program offers evening and Saturday appointments
to accommodate working individuals. Butler County
WIC offices include locations in Butler, Chicora,
Cranberry, EauClaire, Evans City, Harrisville, Mars,
Parker, Portersville, Saxonburg, Slippery Rock and
Zelienople.

Marcellus Shale Summit & Expo will be presented by
the Butler Media Group on November 9th from 10am-
9pm at the Days Inn Conference Center, 139 Pittsburgh
Road, in Butler. Exhibitor booths from all facets of
the industry will be available all day plus two informational
break-out sessions.
Free to the public, the day long event will feature Dr. Terry
Engelder, leading authority on the Marcellus Gas shale play.
He is currently a Professor of Geosciences at Penn State and
previously on the staff of the US Geological Survey, Texaco
and Columbia University. Dr. Terry Engelder will give his
keynote address at 6:30pm with time allotted for questions
and answers.
In addition to the prestigious Dr. Engelder, there will be a
book signing by Pennsylvania Author, Seamus McGraw. The
End of Country, by McGraw, is a deeply personal, moving
and funny epic of the promises and perils facing not just
Pennsylvania ...but our entire nation.
As we progress in the development of the Marcellus
Shale industry, we as a Commonwealth, will encounter many
opportunities and challenges. The Butler Media Group is
hosting the Marcellus Shale Summit as an open forum for
an exchange of ideas, networking and facilitating learning
about an American natural resource that could help us be less
dependent on foreign nations. Take the time, make the time
in your busy schedulefuture generations will be dependent
upon the choices we make today. said Victoria Hinterberger,
General Manager, Butler Media Group.
Education is the key to understanding. A diverse group
of vendors will be exhibiting and space is still available.

Philip Tack Retires
After 37 Years of Service
O
n September 18, 2011, Philip Tack retired after 37
years of dedicated service to the residents and staff of
Sugar Creek Rest, Meadow Lake Manor and Armstrong
Retirement Village. He will remain as Quality Life Services
Chairman of the Board of Directors. Since his arrival in the Tack
Family business in June of 1974, Phil has walked to work from
his nearby home and been the consistent foundation of Sugar
Creek Rest, the Quality Life Services flagship home. Built on his
familys farmland, Sugar Creek Rest has been the only company
location that Phil has wanted to call home. In the early years
of Sugar Creek Rest, Phil worked shoulder-to-shoulder with his
father, the late Kenneth Tack, Sr., and his younger brother, Ken.
I have had a unique opportunity over the past 37 years to
participate in the growth of this family organization. I am most
proud of the care we have provided and the close relationships
I have had with so many fine people in our community, says
Phil. I will miss the residents, their families and our great staff
and wish him the best. Upon Phils retirement, his son Matt
will assume the Executive Director role, overseeing both Sugar
Creek Rest and sister home Chicora Medical Center. Diane Ott
will serve as Administrator of Sugar Creek Rest.
Phil and his wife are the proud parents of Matthew and
Mary Susan and enjoy the lively family get-togethers of their
10 grandchildren. Says his daughter, Mary Susan, From an
early age, my father instilled a work ethic in my brother and
I. He taught us that you can balance a healthy, happy family
with a strong commitment to your lifes career calling. Sugar
Creek Rest has been his calling for his entire career. We are so
thankful to him for paving the way and affording our family
many opportunities to serve the community and pursue our lifes
passion. He is more than deserving of a peaceful, self-directed
retirement. From the Board of Directors, owners, staff, families
and residents of Sugar Creek Rest and the entire Quality Life
Services organization, we wish Phil a happy, relaxing retirement
and thank him for his years of service, dedication and hard work.
of Health Assessment which classified health risk
factors on a national level and relative to Butler
County. Dr. Thomas McGill from Butler Health
System then elaborated on Butler County data per
the recently completed 2011 resident survey. Both
presentations clearly indicated that there are health
risk factors that can be reduced or treated through
Employee Wellness Programs.
A panel discussion was presented which provided
information on the mechanics of an employee
wellness program and the practical experience and
resources available. The Butler County Chamber
thanks Butler Health System and Highmark for
presenting and sponsoring this event.

Job and Career Fair Statistics
97
area employers gathered on October 5, 2011,
for the fall Job and Career Fair coordinated
by the PA CareerLink of Butler County.
Interestingly, 62 were companies which were
hiring, 18 were training facilities, and 17 were
community agencies. This was the second highest
number of employers registered in the 9-year history
of the job fair.
There were 326 job seekers who attended coming
from 11 counties and 1 from out of state. The
committee worked diligently to attract companies
hiring professionals, and more than 25 that were doing
so. 24% or 77 of the job seekers had Bachelors and 6%
or 19 had Masters degrees. Employers were pleased
with the quality of the candidates, with many regulars
saying that they felt that the quality at this event was
the best ever.
Of interest is the fact that 200 job seekers were
unemployed, 68 were employed, and 47 were
underemployed. The age demographics have certainly
changed over recent years, with the majority of job
seekers being aged 42 to 61 (a total of 162). The
Butler County Chamber of Commerce thanks the PA
CareerLink of Butler County for the coordination and
success of this event.
