Sunday. October 21, 2012 3-6 PM $35 Will cover majority of Black Belt exam curriculum: Ippon kumite, kata, kihon, terminology, philosophy. Excellent preview for students planning on testing for black belt. Open to all students. RSVP by October 19.

Demonstration team members will learn skills not typically covered in regular class, such as board breaking and take-down techniques. The main requirement is that volunteers show up regularly to scheduled practices and perform at schedule demonstrations. Practice schedule can be found on the Minakami Karate Events Calendar. Dont have an Events Calendar? Ask Angela.

Our next demonstration performance will be at the Minakami Karate Year End Party on Saturday, December 15, 2012.

Congratulation to 2012-2013 Competition Team


The official 2012-2013 Minakami Karate Competition Team has been selected. Congratulation to Erin Kato (Captain), Jasmine Van Horn (Assistant Captain), Arthur Weaver, Sanchir Myagmarsuren, Egeljin Myagmarsuren, Jason Hainze, Hana Hurst and Konstantin Chorbova. The team is currently preparing for their first tournament coming up on October 27 & 28, the West Coast Open in Tacoma. Also representing Minakami Karate as independent competitors will be Angela Parvanta (kumite), Aaron Bannavong (kumite), Aaron Parker (kumite), Henry Bowman (kata), Sean Bowman (Kata), Mari Hicks (Kata) and Wakako Hurst (kata). If you are interested in

competing on behalf of Minakami Karate, please speak to Angela right away.

Introducing T-Shirt Day!


Make sure to check out the Minakami Karate Events Calendar as we will be adding T-shirt days on special occasions. On these days, all students should wear their Minakami Karate t-shirt or their favorite t-shirt along with their gi pants. No belt is required on these days. Minakami Karate t-shirts can be purchased through the dojo for $23.00+tax.

Karate GoldNew class for Adults, Mondays


Minakami Karate will be adding a new class on Monday nights, 7:15-8:30 PM, beginning October 15. Its called Karate Gold and it is designed for adults age 50+, but enjoyable for anyone over 35. This class is also good for students who are recovering from sports related injury. Exercises are modified to be more gentle on joints while also strengthening muscles to prevent future injury. This class will feature more thorough warm up and cool down periods to increase flexibility and, again, prevent injury. There will be a mix of kata, kihon, ippon kumite, self-defense training and muscle specific exercises. Karate Gold is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced martial artists.

Volunteers & Sponsors NeededHayashi-Ha Cup 2013


We are gearing up for our next Hayashi-Ha Cup karate tournament. Next years tournament will be held on February 23, 2013. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: Time Keepers Score Keepers Stagers Food Makers/ Servers Set Up & Break Down Crew Volunteers will be given free lunch and a nifty Hayashi-Ha Cup Staff T-shirt. Parents volunteer, you need not be worried about missing you childs event. We will make sure to rotate workers so you can watch your child (or children) compete. Students that want to compete AND volunteer are happily welcome to do so. Kata Requirement Notice


In preparation for the 2013 Hayashi-Ha Cup, all color belt students have been assigned specific katas to prepare for competition. This kata will be the same kata students will perform at their kyu promotions until further notice. Please check the notice board next to the main office door to find out what kata you should be working on. If you have any questions, please speak to Angela.
