Heel lead on fwd steps. Keep hips over knees. More advanced pos: body-to-body contact, W tuck her L hd under his R arm. ML/WR hds come a little closer in. 8-count Basic (fwd promenade)--SSQQS M: Fwd L (S), R (S), fwd L-side R-draw L to R with no wt (tango-close) (QQS). W: Opp ftwk & dir. M can go in a straight line, veer a little to the L, or veer up to 180 degrees to the L. Turn as needed to maneuver around the dance floor. Style: lift little toe on close (touch inner edge of ft to floor). Basic with turn L on QQS Hesitation step M: Fwd L (S), bkwd R (S), tango-close (QQS) (Variation: Side L, side R, tango-close) W: Bkwd R (S), fwd L (S), tango-close (QQS) Transition to promenade: replace tango-close with M fwd L, bkwd R, turn 1/8 to L & close L. W opp. Promenade Walk -- SSQQS From closed pos, turn 1/8 to to semi-open pos and both step fwd with outside ft (S), inside ft (S), M square up shoulders and W swivel L to face ptr on ct 4. Tango-close (QQS). Tip for W: When you feel M lead CCW rotation, reach diagonally back on R. Tip for M: Roll R elbow fwd so W feels rotation. - Can do L turn on QQS (tango close). Continuous promenade: Step fwd on outside ft (S), inside ft (S), outside ft (Q), step back on inside ft (Q), and draw outside ft to instep of standing ft (S). W arch turn: M do fwd basic. W turn R under arch on SS, tango-close. Can also do during Promenade Walk on SS cts.

Promenade Turning Right (~1/2 turn R) SS-QQS From promenade pos, both step fwd with outside ft (S), inside ft (S). M: swivel on R to cross Ws track and face ptr. Variation: Prom pos, walk fwd 2 (SS), full pivot R (SS) Cort (dip, stop) M: Bkwd L and sit (S), fwd R and stand (S), tango-close (QQS) W: Fwd R and bend, arch back and point L toe (S), bkwd L and stand (S), tango-close (QQS) * Styling tip: No bend at waist or twisting. W support own wt. M turn upper body slightly L and stretch L side of body. R elbow dips, L hd rises; W turns head to L. * Styling tip: flickW lifts L ft on cort. M can bring his L hd near his L hip. Rock and Cort -- SS-QQSS-QQS (14 cts) M: Fwd L (S), fwd R (S), fwd L (Q), bkwd R (Q), bkwd L and slightly to the L side into cort (S), fwd onto R (S), tango-close (QQS). W: Opp dir & ftwk. Keep your hips and ribs over your ft when you step fwd. Turn your back (L) ft so your heel is not up in the air. With rotation: turn 1/8-1/4 L on rock steps (QQ). Can also turn L on tango-close. Tango Waltz (Media Luna) SQQ-SQQ M: Closed pos. Do box step turning L. Fwd L (S), side R (Q), close L (Q). Back R (S), side L (Q), close R (Q). W: Opp dir and ftwk. To exit: Do box, then step back into a Corte: slow step back MR, fwd WL, corte. Outside swivels (ochos, right-side fan, double fan, swirl, figure-eight fan) QQSS-QQSS-QQS = 16 cts M: Fwd L (Q), small step on R slightly side R and diagonally back to bring W to outside R pos (Q), bkwd L (S), replace fwd onto R (S). Rpt QQSS. Tango-close (QQS) W: Bkwd R (Q), slightly side L on L (Q), fwd R to Ms R side (S), swivel R with ft close tog (AND), fwd L (S). Swivel L to face ptr (AND). Rpt QQSS, do tango-close (QQS) Variation: Repeat the QQSS pattern as many times as you like, turning L on QQ rock steps. Can begin with 2 S steps: M fwd LR (twd ptr or stepping diag fwd to outside pos), W back LR OR both fwd in promenade pos. M can do Salsa Media Luna steps as W is doing ochos. Salsa step: Fwd L, back R, in place L (QQS), back R, fwd L, in place R (QQS) W style: can flick L ft up on first swivel. M leading tip: It is Ms job to place W to his R side. He uses his upper body to place her correctly. Style variation for M: after his slow back rock on L, he can do a small swing back with his R over his L. Promenade to Open Fan (single fan, throw out/pushaway/butterfly break) -- SS-QQS-SS-QQS = 16 cts M: Promenade pos. Fwd L, R (SS), close L and release the W out to L side (Q), side R turning R (separate from ptr, M on R side, W on L) (Q), pause with L toe out to L side (S). Step diag fwd L twd ptr (S), flare (AND) ( turn L, M R hd to ptrs back, get hip-to-hip connection with ptr) & step fwd R, bringing ptr into closed pos (S), close ft (and), tango-close (QQS). nd W: Promenade pos. Fwd R, L (SS), turning to face ptr after 2 S. Step back R (Q), side L (Q), close R to L (S) (or R toe is extended to R side) and L arm is extended high to her L side. Step diag fwd R twd ptr (S), flare (AND) ( turn R) & step fwd L, turn L into closed pos (S), close ft (AND), tango-close (QQS). * Leading tip: when M rolls W away, keep joined hd (ML/WR) lowmore control for W. - Optional: After you separate from ptr, do in-out (and-S) with toe. Looks best if both ptrs do it. - Variations: after separating from ptr, do 3-ct turn twd ptr to change places, rpt. OR after flare, separate from ptr again - Variation: After throwout, do W arch turn R, M walks CCW around her (SS), tango-close (QQS) Promenade (CW) pivots SS-QQ-SS-QQS = 14 cts Promenade pos: both step fwd with outside ft (S), inside ft (S), one full pivot turn R (QQ), two more slow walks fwd (SS), M step fwd L and bring ptr in front of him for tango-close (QQS). * At first, your pivot turn will only get 1/2-3/4 of the way around. Eventually you will be doing a full turn. * Leading tip: When M starts the two S walks, leave the W slightly behind you so it is easier to get around her. * W head: During the pivot, W turn her head to L to help bring her into closed pos. When pivot starts, W steps into M with the heel of her R ft.

Salsa 4/4 time, QQS Style: Stay upright, body stays at home. Feet pointed slightly outward, esp. on fwd break step (ct 1). Legs close together, feet close to floor. Hds above waist level, palms facing twd waist. Break with straight leg, use Cuban hip motion. Music: Break on strong beat (could be ct 1with melodyor ct 2with rhythm) Basic step: Fwd L (ct 1), back R (ct 2), L in place (ct 3), hold or tap R heel (or small kick fwd) (ct 4); back R (ct 5), fwd L (ct 6), R in place (ct 7), hold or tap L heel (ct 8). W opp ftwk & dir. Two-hd pos or closed pos. Can rotate CCW. Back break: Slip out to two-hd hold. Cross body lead with Ws 1-1/2 reverse (L) turn (Coca Cola): M: Ftwk is the same as in cross-body lead W: During cross-body lead, M turns W 1-1/2 times to her L under ML/WR hd (cts 5-7). She exits with rock step back on R (ct 1)away from ptr (not out to the side)after turn. To repeat: M place his R hd on her back as soon as he can. W raise L arm straight up, then place L hd on his R shldr. Ms R turn + Sombrero: Meas 1: M's spot turn R with behind-the-back hand change Meas 2: M back basic & join L hds under R hds (variation: W turn R) Meas 3: Sombrero (double face loop)R hds over Ws head, L hds over Ms head. Begin cross-body lead. Meas 4: Continue with cross-body lead. Ms arch turn to Ws side pass: Meas 1: From two-hd pos, M turns R under his R arm (ct 1), turning R, so his back is to the W. Tip for M: turn toward the R diagonal, to get off her tracks. Meas 2: M leads W to walk forward past his R side (ct 5), then brings his R hd back in to lead her into a CCW free spin. Variation: M can do a quick spin to R on meas 2 (cts 6-7). Six-part combo (same as in Cha Cha): Meas 1: M turns R with hd chg behind the back. Meas 2: W R U/A turn (under R/R hds) Meas 3-4: Cross-body lead: M picks up Ws L hd over R hds, turns her 1-1/2 L. Meas 5: M turns R under his R arm, ends with his back to W Meas 6: M pulls W fwd (by his R side) and she does free spin (1-1/2) to her L. Lindy 8-count rhythm: 1-2-3&4-5-6-7&8 Style for Savoy-style Lindy Hop: low, easy-going bouncy quality (think of dribbling a basketball). Travel fwd & back: Cts 1-2: In closed pos, do rock-step. Cts 3&4: Fwd triple step. Cts 5-6: Fwd rock-step. Cts 7&8: Bkwd triple-step. Lindy Circle (8 ct figure). Begin in semi-open pos. Ms part: Cts1-2: Rock-step LR Cts 3&4: Triple step turning R, end facing ptr. M places his R arm further around her waist. Ct 5: Cross R behind L. Both hang back and swing around each other. Ct 6: Step L in place Cts 7&8: Back up to home on triple step. He leads her toward his R side on the final triple (backing up). Keep ML/WR hds joined. Swingout: Ms part: Ct 1: Rock back L, slight bow fwd, let R arm swing back Ct 2: Step in place R Ct 3: turn CW while stepping side L, catch partner with R hd at her waist. Ct &: Close R to L Ct 4: turn CW then back L, facing your home. Ct 5: Turn another 1/4 CW, rock side R (or hook R behind L) and lead W twd her home place w/ R arm and immediately let go. Ct 6: Rock back onto L keeping only the swingout hand connection. Cts 7&8: Face her and finish with a triple step in place, adjusting forward or back as needed. Ws part: Ct. 1: Rock back R Ct 2: Step fwd R Ct 3: 1/4 turn CW with R advancing, catch partner with her L hd on his R shoulder. Ct &: Small side L Ct 4: Quarter turn CW then drop weight onto R almost in place. Ct 5: Quarter turn CW and side L toward home place. Ct 6: Cross R over L, toward home. Ct 7&8: Triple step to return to place. Tip: Aim your navel at your partner all the way around, from cts 3 to 5. Swingout closed pos: Cts 1-4: Begin Swingout. Cts 5-6: M keeps W closed pos. Both hang back and swing around each other with steps in place (like pivot steps). Cts 7&8: M leads W twd his R side on the final triple. Continue with rock-step (not Sugar Foot). M: The Ws swingout default might be to break out of your arms and head back toward her home on cts 5-6. Make your frame even squarer during the ct 3&4 catch, completely facing her. Closed pos swingout: Cts 1-2: Rock step Cts 3&4: M steps in front of W, loosens his hold around her waist. Cts 5-6: Same as swingout. M uses light pressure on her back with his R hd (dont pull). Cts 7&8: M releases W on (or around) ct 7 (not 5). * Release her into an open space on the floor, not into another dancer. Sugar Foot. Twist both knees R and step on the ball of the R ft Twist both knees L, swiveling the heels back to the R, and step on the ball of the L foot. Repeat. Style: Keep the upper quiet without twisting. Only twist from the hips downward. Wswingout with Sugar Foot: Ct. 8: Prepare for Sugar Foot: step L, twisting L Ct 1: Facing partner, R Sugar Foot in place or advancing. Ct 2: L Sugar Foot slightly advancing. Side pass: Ms part: Cts 1-2: Swingout pos (ML/WR hds joined). Rock-step L, slightly crossing behind R. Cts 3&4: Sideways triple step LRL to L, passing behind W. Take opposite hds (MR/WL) Cts 5-8: Rpt in opp dir, M passing behind W again. Ws part: Cts 1-2: Rock-step R, slightly crossing behind L. Cts 3&4: Sideways triple step RLR to R, passing in front of M. Take opposite hds (MR/WL). Cts 5-8: Rpt in opp dir, passing in front of M again. Tip: A good way to begin the step is to do an arch turn for the W, ending side-by-side.

W: your footwork is almost the same as the basic swingout, but your rotation changes from CW to CCW on the way home. Charleston Kicks Charleston Kicks work well at faster tempos, either fast Lindy hop or moderate East Coast Swing tempos. Basic Charleston Kicks Transition from 6-ct swing: release ML/WR hd, open up to side-by-side pos, M R arm around Ws waist. Rock-step of 6-ct swing = beginning rock-step of Charleston. Open position, with W at Ms R side. Ms ftwk (W does opposite ftwk): Ct 1: Rock back L. Ct 2: Step fwd R. Ct 3: Kick L forward with a downward motion (or walk fwd with heel lead) Ct 4: Step forward L Ct 5: Kick R forward with a downward motion (or easy leg swing fwd). Ct 6: Hitch the R back keeping it low in the air. Ct 7: Touch the R toe backwards (or walk bkwd toe-heel) Ct 8: Lower the R heel. To return to swing: after the rock-step (cts 1-2), turn twd partner and continue with swing. Skip Up From open pos, join hands in front. Ms ftwk (W does opposite ftwk): Cts 1-2: Rock-step LR. Ct 3: Kick L forward diagonally toward partner, with a downward body motion. She kicks between his legs; he kicks past her R side. Ct 4: Step forward L. Ct 5: Kick R forward diagonally away from partner, with a downward body motion. Ct 6: Step fwd R. Ct 7: Kick L forward diagonally toward partner, with a downward body motion.
