Communications Intern, National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) July - August 2011 Alexandria, VA Wrote/Worked On: Press Releases, Media Contact Lists, Research, Pitch Pieces, Social Media. Researched and worked on getting editorials and letters to the editor published in Nashvilles newspapers, where NCPAs Convention was being held. Helped get our editorial printed in Nashvilles largest newspaper, the Nashville Tennessean. Helped compile stories related to NCPA, pharmacy, and health care and sending them out to coworkers every morning. Researcher/Consultant, Missouri Democratic Party June - August 2010 & January - February 2011 Missouri, Virginia, & Washington, DC Researched Democratic and Republican candidates for state and federal office. This included researching, reading and collecting voting history, tax and marriage records, and news stories written about the candidate. It also included gathering meeting minutes from house and senate sessions, board meetings, or other public meetings, among many other things. Communications Intern, Environment America May - August 2009 Washington, DC Extensively researched and helped set up social media for the organization, updating various sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Digg. Also fact checked reports we put out, updated the media contacts database, pitched stories to reporters, and helped write letters to the editor. Wrote and edited press releases. Updated and edited media contact lists. Attended congressional hearings and meetings involving members of our association and took photos. Compiled a database of stories over the last two years that mentioned NCPA. Was in charge of compiling stories related to NCPA, pharmacy, and health care and sending them out to coworkers every morning. Wrote an analysis on how NCPA could use social media, and what social media outlets they may want to be active on. Interactive & General Intern, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) NewsHour March - August 2008 Arlington, VA I worked on the interactive part of the website, including updating an interactive Democratic Party super delegate list during the 2008 primary elections that was searchable, clickable, and more. I also put together a demographic database to accompany any story online pertaining to a foreign country. The graphics derived from the database provided readers with information on the country, such as population, GDP, and oil consumption. Anything that is a visual aid other than photos I had a hand in. I wrote NewsHour Extra! Daily Buzz stories, which are short summaries of news stories that are particularly out of the ordinary and of interest to teenagers.
